      Yes! I did this for kindergarten LA and math for my daughter. We are about a quarter of the way through LA and almost halfway done with math. I’ve been impressed with the curriculum!
      Also wanted to add that I put all the lessons in page protectors and we use dry erase markers. I will use for my other children in the future which makes me feel better about the cost of printing alllllll the pages out 😀

    I totally agree with your statement that you can slow down and complete curriculum at a pace that is right for each individual child! That's one of the beauties of homeschooling compared to public schooling. That was one of the frustrations I had with teaching in public school. I had to just drag my poor babies along even if they were not ready bc we had to cover all the curriculum before standardized testing at the end of the year. 💔 Such a disservice to those who just needed more time. I'm so blessed to be able to slow down for my dyslexic child! We go at her place and she is flourishing. Love that TGATB is simplifying their program but retaining the beauty!

    Just purchased Angela’s homeschool course. I am only on module 2 and this is by far the best one I have purchased . She really rounds this course out with everything you need to know and focuses on you and the child . I highly recommend everyone checks it out before it closes .

    This does look a lot better. We finished kindergarten this past year and we had to stop and just focus on one thing multiple times because it was so advanced. The little readers were a struggle because they’d ask the child to read words they hadn’t even learned. This looks much better.

    Thank you so much!!! This is the best video I've seen on it so far! I am using the level K for my 1st grader and he has picked it up FAST!!! we spent 1 1/2 weeks on the purple booster cards before starting the lessons and then he soared!!! He is now reading words and we are now 4 1/2 weeks in! I highly recommend this. I am also an ADD mom (diagnosed) and I'm sure my son has it also (undiagnosed) and this has been so great so far. No regrets! I am also a first year home school mom!! I was so worried at first but this curriculum has given me so much confidence! I got this, I can do this!

    The current updated levels are K-2. They are currently working on Levels 3 and 6. The new Levels 4 and 5 are considered up to date and will not be getting another update, but the Level 3 will be and eventually the Level 7. No word on if they plan to do an actual Level 8 now that the levels are considered on grade level.
    Bobby and the Big Road was part of the previous Level K we just completed (I know they've had several versions). But it looks like they pushed it back quite a bit; it was previously in the first unit. The updates look great in the K and Level 2. The Level 1 appears to have a lot of similarities between the old and new, but I still chose to switch over even though I already had a copy of the old Level 1. I LOVE the new ABC Booster Cards and Readers. They made a ton of changes that were things I previously complained about as we went through the Level K. We did take more than one year to get through Level K as my daughter was not yet in kindergarten when we started. When she was done she was a fantastic reader, but there were moments that frustrated me. I think the Booster cards will help parents/students review as needed; they really would have helped us as I had to find different ways to review the concepts and slow down until my daughter was ready.

    Thank you. That was very helpful. I have a kiddo who has a mild intellectual disability and adhd. 😂 so I created my own curriculum by using bits and pieces from other teachers on teachers pay teachers, pinterest activities, thinking of ways to challenge her etc. We are repeating kindergarten and I've been looking into something I could just use instead of so much prep work with what I was doing this first year of homeschooling. I have no problem prepping and adding things if I need to on top of this, but it would be nice to see if she can follow along a full curriculum already mostly prepped. I think we're gonna go with this for our 2023-2024 school yr. 👍

  • @Natalie.D
    @Natalie.D 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    And for the good and the beautiful realize that you may need to start with their preschool and/or kinder. prep curriculum before kindergarten, regardless of your child’s age. They have pre-requisites of what your child should know before beginning kindergarten. Those include knowing all letter names (upper and lowercase) and all letter sounds AND sounding out some 2 and 3 letter words. If your child hasn’t been using a formal curriculum before that, you may need something else first. I would describe this level as public school end of kindergarten/beginning of first grade.

    • @JenniPugh

      This ^^. My thoughts exactly 💯

    • @Natalie.D
      @Natalie.D 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JenniPugh if you child hasn’t done a formal curriculum before, I would give them the placement test. Then you will probably start them on preschool or kindergarten prep. Don’t rush into a harder level than you child is ready for. Especially at the beginning of this series. Even with f you start at preschool level and find it to be easy for your child, treat it as review and move more quickly through it. Then spend more time on kindergarten prep (it is a short curriculum - maybe 1-2 months). Even if you start on kindergarten in January, you will know that your child has the solid foundation they need with sounds and letter names and sounding out short words and that’s what matters in making a confident competent reader.

Quick question…now that the TGATB updated their language arts curriculums, would you say your kids have enjoyed this MORE than All About Reading?? Would love your feedback! 😁

    My son is 11 and supposed to be going in 6th grade but my husband and I have decided to try homeschooling using this curriculum. He is on a IEP through public schooling and after doing the placement I think he would do the best on the level 3 language arts and math. If I can get him to catch us this year and even be ready for level 5 next year is it OK if I am skipping 4? Will he always have to be behind using this curriculum? If he skips level 4 will level 5 make sense or will he miss and important portion that will help him with level 5?

    • @Natalie.D
      @Natalie.D 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Read tgatb placement test last page. This will answer your question. In short don’t skip a level, as it will skip over needed lessons. If your child is on an iep, they may need more time with the content, and that is ok. The most important thing is that they are learning, making progress, and becoming a skilled reader and writer. These levels do not correspond to public school grade levels. And likely in your child’s public school they are differentiating his lessons and curriculum because of his disability/iep.

    • @emilycombs

      Take this with a grain of salt...I am just a beginner homeschooler, too, beginning kindergarten this year. However, I have done a TON of research on reading instruction, and TG&TB does NOT align with current research, known as the "science of reading". My personal plan is tp use another free curriculum that is similar to TG&TB (Prenda Treasure Hunt Reading), combined with a Teachers Pay Teachers curriculum by Natalie Lynn Kindergarten that is aligned with current research (if you look on Teachers Pay Teachers, it is abbreviated as SOR). That's my plan...obviously, every family has a different philosophy and different curricula that will fit for them.
      Another beginning reading resource we love is Progressive Phonics Alphabetti books. They're also free, and SO WELL WRITTEN!!! I have been on the hunt for additional books because we flew through those, but I can't find anything that compares!!!

      I had big hopes the new TG&TB curriculum would fit better with current research, but after a flip through, it still focuses heavily on sight words

    Hi 🙂 I love in Canada. Would you happen to know if this book is better for homeschoolers in the US ..for the geography components?

      The geography component is world geography. My kids are all in different levels, but they've learned about Italy, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, parts of the U.S. and others throughout the years (we've used levels K-6). It often correlates to the literature component and the stories they're reading.

    I had to double take then - in your thumbnail you looked exactly like you did when you were pregnant with the twins when I first started watching! I thought you’d posted a. Old video! 🤣

    This video seemed a bit odd to me. Like, not as aesthetically pleasing..... The message was good, but it was confusing sometimes when there was no audio and focusing on a lot of hand movement when the book was too blurry to even read what was on the page. Of course, I will continue to watch videos by Angie because I love what she has to say, and I don't mean to be mean, it just seemed a little off? Maybe it was just me.

      OH MY GOSH - I'm an idiot!!! I forgot to add the voiceover / music, that's why it feels odd 😳 So sorry about that - hopefully that never happens again, LOL!
