What if you soaked the sticks in water to make them pliable. Then weave them together into a small square, let them dry, then suspend them in resin and turn it into a sphere with the square inside of it?
Susan, if he seals them in a varnish they wouldn't be pliable since most types of varnish are waterproof. He'd have to find one that didn't make the sticks waterproof and that could pose a challenge.
gave me an idea, would be cool if you used coffee beans and grounds to make a coffee thermos(the type that holds a full pot of coffee and has the twist off pour spout) , clear resin with the beans, and the bottom clear resin with the grounds😁
Laura Arce Tobón thank you ! ive thrown a few good ones out there but he hasnt made any of my suggestions 🙇 lol since i dont have enough money for all the tools and supplies id love to see someone bring to life whats in my head, doesnt matter who does it id just like to see it done 🤗
I agree with a lot of people that you should make one ibto a coffee travel mug. I think you can get the inserts cant you? Or buy one from poundland & convert it
Weave a bunch together to make a small square then make several small squares and layer them up, then use resin to make a block. Then turn the block on the diagonal.
Hey! I don't know how I even found your channel but I did and I just wanted to say I absolutely love your videos! For one it's really nice to just watch something be created but it's so clear how you just love to do it and it makes it all the better. I love all the little jokes and movie clips you put in and I love how you really bring us along through your thought process. I feel like you have that beginners curiosity about everything you make and that lends to seeing you being really creative and trying stuff just to see. I'm rambling but I love your videos and your personality and attitude! P.S. I'm a 19-year-old girl so definitely not part of what I would imagine your normal demographic to be. lol
Hey, that looks alright with the frosted look inside... If you hadn't mentioned it, I'd have been thinking "Now that's clever.. adds depth. Arty!! " Nice one :)
What you should do on the sticks is boil some water, add food coloring and put the sticks in. The color should permeate the wood, let it boil for a while, then let them cool. that way you should have color throughout the wood. I do this with leather, it should work for wood.
I love that you put up vids where the project didn't quite go as you wanted - its great to watch peoples learning process and to know that someone as skilled as you still has things go a little wrong :D
What if you took a brightly coloured blank, hollowed it out to create the curly shavings you see from hollowed resin, then dipped those shavings in clear resin to make a blank. I think that could create an awesome swirl effect!
I was sorta thinking that but with the resin shavings because they kinda look like whipped cream from the can but would it stay white looking or would it go clear in the resin? Otherwise a coloured resin shavings into clear would be pretty.
Thank you Nick. Hope yours is funk-a-delick! Have you thought of using straws and resin?? I've got a boat load of them from Starbucks and a variety of fast food places. I could probably use them to for some funky weaving with wild yarn.
Looks like a good spring cup for lemonade and iced tea! If you make 3 more you'll have a fine spring and summer set. Then make a pitcher! Then, make some coasters!!
This turned out so interesting! Coloring the sticks definitely added to the uniqueness. It looks way better than if you would have left the stirrers plain. Good job [*inserts thumbs up emoji*]
This channel makes me want to buy a lathe. No clue what I am doing, but definitely thinking "this is so cool, I want to learn how to do this" while watching your videos.
i agree! if the stripes are filled up a bit more the simple stripey pattern and the Coke tumbler shape would look really good. are these resin and finish food safe?
I think it turned out really pretty. I don't really drink coffee very often, but I do have a glass that looks a lot like that so I'll think of you when I use it. Awesome video as usual. ♥♥
One day I intend to learn how to turn. I love all the resin work you do. I really like the stick idea and I’ll be saving that in my brain pan for later. When you got the vase to a more finished point I thought you were making a Pint glass. With that in mind, is resin food safe? I would absolutely use that stir stick “vase” to drink a beer....or 4. Keep up the great videos.
Another great idea/project. I was thinking there at the first when you were coloring all of those stir sticks that you have alot of patience and then you said that you should have been more patient with the finishing on the vase. Now you will know what not to do on your next stir stick project. Looking forward to seeing it. Have a great day
I like it. Question for you - When you hollowed it out - the resin that came out that was shaved out of the inside came out looking like beautiful ruffles of fabric. Is there anything you could put those resin shavings in that wouldn't completely make them disappear and make a blank out of that? with a black background or something those 'ruffles' would look beautiful.
Nick, you should try to make something with all of the resin strips that go flying off when turning. Especially those rose petal shaped one that came out as you were hallowing out the vase. That would be fun to see! Nice vase/pencil holder! 😄 Love watching your ideas and the results
I've seen lots of videos dealing with resin and pressure pots but I no one has ever explained why the pressure pot? I would think a vacuum chamber but I see you're adding air pressure... what does the increased pressure do?
love the channel nick, I've watched so many projects. I ended up buying some resin today actually, not much but enough for my first venture. cheers as always
I think that turned out quite well. I did a bit of playing about with those big lolly sticks a while back & things might translate to those stirrers too. Firstly, you can submerge them in fabric dye (normal Dylon stuff; don't need the salt) for a month or so & the dye will soak in and colour them through, with deeper colour at the edges than in the centre. The pressure vessel would probably do a great job of getting the colour to go deeper, much faster too. This also works with drawing or normal pen inks, but those are far more expensive. Secondly, if you want to add some jet black accents to things you can wrap them up tightly in normal foil & stick them under the grill. Assuming you've got proper ventilation just in case, & after a fair amount of trial & error with the timing, you can turn them into charcoal. They're brittle & need to be stabilised with resin (or superglue) but they'll soak it right up & make a nice cheap alternative to ebony with a little of the grain patterns still visible. The most important thing is to make sure the foil is really well wrapped to stop any air getting in, otherwise they'll burn away to nothing. I take no responsibility & accept no liability for anybody who burns down their home, place of business, or local café after reading this comment.
I think it would be awesome if- for the base- you colored & cross laminated layers of sticks with each next layer being turned 45 degrees. Then turning that to make a base to fit the vase into. I love your work, btw. I wish I had tools like you do. I have SOOOOOO many ideas. Thanks for making these videos.
Like in a lot other comments already said, you should make a mug. With a wider diameter and not too high, so you can reach the inside better. What I really like is how the colors leak/run into the resin while in the presssure pot. You had that effect before in other projekts. And I love how the colors POP when Shellawax comes into the game! 👌 Now I wait eagerly for your next turn. 😉
I had this paused at around 9:10 when my son & his friend walked in. The friend thought I was watching Star Wars or something. He thought it was a fancy space ship. :)
I love the craftsmanship and love you put into all your projects. I have a strange request for a project... Assuming you know what Pringles are, it would be cool to see an entire stack of them in resin with the can turned out of wood. Either way, keep doing what you do. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
Those "flowers" 7:54 that come out when hollowing out might make a cool effect for a project. I also thought you chould use steal shavings. You know the one ones that are long and curly. 👍
Things to try mixing with resin?: round toothpicks (colored or plain), wig hair (wigs are all sorts of colors these days), metallic thread, frayed fabric strips
I really liked this! 💚 Perhaps a smaller base and maybe stabilizing the sticks to eliminate the porosity would help. But I totally understand wanting to get on with it! Lol. Perhaps when you feel impatient with sanding think of Heath Knuckles. The most patient sander of resin! 😁😂 Thank you for sharing!
I seen cut a project on the bandsaw. It made some little snow flake like shavings. You should put them in some resin if they stay white would be awesome!
Great projet. I wonder......what would happen if you mixed wood shavings and the stringy stuff that comes off when you turn a resin piece?? Not sure what you could make but it would definitely be different, if it's feasible. Just thinking and wondering.
Color sticks different colors. Glue them into squares. Rotate the direction in layers mixed with layers of the resin of different colors. I think that it would look cool as a tall cylinder or something. I really like the stuff you make. It makes me want to try this stuff.
Hey Nick!!! You should do something similar with this and how you cast the sticks in the resin, but with different colored straws, turn it into a tall glass, and finish it with food grade polish (which I’ve seen you use on a bowl project)
I love it. Would make a great addition to my craft room desk😉. And it's very refreshing to see what doesn't always go to plan... let's face it we Learn from our mistakes. X
Your videos sir are spectacular, I love the sped up voice section, the awesome camera action and the resin awesomeness. Very inspiring. Please keep creating videos for us. I was thinking, could you do a resin something with a sand base and then swirl colour to make almost like a wave caught in time?
Have you tried coloring you sticks with food color dyes, you could soak them and put them in your pressure pot and the color mat go all the way through.
What if you soaked the sticks in water to make them pliable. Then weave them together into a small square, let them dry, then suspend them in resin and turn it into a sphere with the square inside of it?
Tim Bredow or he could soak them in dyed water to keep the funky colors
Better to seal the sticks with a type of varnish which would eliminate any air bubbles from escaping from them
Susan, if he seals them in a varnish they wouldn't be pliable since most types of varnish are waterproof. He'd have to find one that didn't make the sticks waterproof and that could pose a challenge.
I love your work it's different from the norm you're very creative and free thinking
gave me an idea, would be cool if you used coffee beans and grounds to make a coffee thermos(the type that holds a full pot of coffee and has the twist off pour spout) , clear resin with the beans, and the bottom clear resin with the grounds😁
Justice this is an amazing idea!
Anyone know where to get a good tool sharpener? Or would wet stone work?
I think if he could find a thermos insert and cast the resin and beans around it, that would be an amazing idea!!!
Great idea
I love the shape and even the cloudy finish is reminiscent of stuff that was really popular in the 50s & 60s. I like it!
I agree with a lot of people that you should make one ibto a coffee travel mug. I think you can get the inserts cant you? Or buy one from poundland & convert it
I was about to say this exact same thing.
Weave a bunch together to make a small square then make several small squares and layer them up, then use resin to make a block.
Then turn the block on the diagonal.
I was kind'a thinking along those lines...
we never know what to expect next, but we know its going to be really interesting! always great work!
Hey! I don't know how I even found your channel but I did and I just wanted to say I absolutely love your videos! I love watching you. Your funny and so talented. Even when you say it's a fail I still think it's amazing what you did.
Hey, that looks alright with the frosted look inside... If you hadn't mentioned it, I'd have been thinking "Now that's clever.. adds depth. Arty!! "
Nice one :)
As a Costa barista, I'll now know who to blame when all the stirrers go missing...
Lol
I was a barista while in college. It was a fun but hectic job. I have so many stories about snobby customers!
What you should do on the sticks is boil some water, add food coloring and put the sticks in. The color should permeate the wood, let it boil for a while, then let them cool. that way you should have color throughout the wood. I do this with leather, it should work for wood.
Looks awesome ! I love that you find ways to use things that most people would just look at as trash. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Something to store your leftover sticks in?
I love that you put up vids where the project didn't quite go as you wanted - its great to watch peoples learning process and to know that someone as skilled as you still has things go a little wrong :D
I love the frosted inside look with the super high polished outside look. Genius!! 🇺🇸
I love the keen you put on your crafts and how easy understanding and funny way you explain everything! Congrats!
What if you took a brightly coloured blank, hollowed it out to create the curly shavings you see from hollowed resin, then dipped those shavings in clear resin to make a blank. I think that could create an awesome swirl effect!
Allyson Whatley umm sounds funky and kinda cool 🤗👍🏽
I was sorta thinking that but with the resin shavings because they kinda look like whipped cream from the can but would it stay white looking or would it go clear in the resin? Otherwise a coloured resin shavings into clear would be pretty.
The shaving is one of my favorite parts. It looks like it would be fun to play with!
Maybe soak the sticks in cactus juice to stabilize to keep from getting the bubbles in your final resin.
You could use food grade resin and make some tumblers!
You are so stinkin' creative. Can't get enough of your videos.
Thanks Charlene 🤗 have a funky weekend 👍🏽🤪
Thank you Nick. Hope yours is funk-a-delick! Have you thought of using straws and resin?? I've got a boat load of them from Starbucks and a variety of fast food places. I could probably use them to for some funky weaving with wild yarn.
I love the inside being cloudy, it looks amazing.
Your accent is flawless and so captivating I love your chosen outlet of artistic expression, it's wonderful and inspiring
Looks like a good spring cup for lemonade and iced tea! If you make 3 more you'll have a fine spring and summer set. Then make a pitcher! Then, make some coasters!!
Should have made it one of those reusable coffee cups you can get in starbucks
Nick you need to take those off cuts from using the forstner bit and cast them in translucent colored resin. They look like settles or ribbons.......
This turned out so interesting! Coloring the sticks definitely added to the uniqueness. It looks way better than if you would have left the stirrers plain. Good job [*inserts thumbs up emoji*]
I haven't turned wood in a long time but your videos made me wanna get back into it Thanks
ummm where is the Yorkshire Grit? Fake video. lolz
Another great piece, after watching all your vids I have to admit I started using Large marbles as toppers to make them more "funky"
Very nice ! Like a trophy 👍
Thanks for sharing, take care
I went to my local garage for a Cost coffee. They'd ran out of stirring sticks and claimed a bearded man was pinching them all ;o)
Slap Head 😂😂😂👍🏽
Me: Nick should make a wig with all that
Nick, less than two seconds later: *resin string wig*
Me: :o
I think it is more like a pint glass, definitely looks cool and unique.
The bits that came out of the vase when you hollowed it out were cool looking. Would look cool in colors in a resin bowl
Thought it was gonna be a reusable coffee cup, perfect size and shape for one!
Nice one Nick, that should "stir" up some interest😂
You can make lil' dollhouse furniture out of those coffee sticks!
Congrats on over 100,000 subscribers! Absolutely love your videos, your projects, and your style!
Whiskey & Wine thanks very much . Have a great weekend 🤗👍🏽
VERY Creative and original, beautiful.
Nick Zammetti you are awesome I really enjoy watching you vlogs
The vase part would be so rad as pendant light covers in a coffee shop. I love this thing.
I think I like all the sticks better than the few. But the few are funky 2. Gorgeous as usual!
This channel makes me want to buy a lathe. No clue what I am doing, but definitely thinking "this is so cool, I want to learn how to do this" while watching your videos.
I just love watching your videos! You always make me laugh! Your work is amazing, and so inspiring!
It looks like a milkshake glass, love it
i agree! if the stripes are filled up a bit more the simple stripey pattern and the Coke tumbler shape would look really good. are these resin and finish food safe?
Here’s one for I nick use macy straws fill them with coloured resin warm them once cured then u can twist and bend them then add to clear mixture??
I like the frosted look on the resin.
I think it turned out really pretty. I don't really drink coffee very often, but I do have a glass that looks a lot like that so I'll think of you when I use it.
Awesome video as usual.
♥♥
Great job mate, love the shape. Cheers, Jim
I love these videos, I’ve been binge watching for hours now and with each video I watch I become more and more impressed... keep up the hard work :)
dead Inside haha thank you very much x
Your artwork should be in the museum it is that sweet and cool thank you

Bill Hiney There are food approved layers available for resin.
Another great idea/project. I like it, especially the shape of the vase.
I love watching u work it's very relaxing to me 😊❤ love from San Antonio Texas have a good/night everyone !
I would love to see a mug with wooden handle!!!!! The cups being one of your custom resin creations with shavings!
That's awesome! Another project idea for the coffee sticks could be a lamp.
Leslie Johnson yeah I noticed that it did look really nice . I did save these savings 🤗👍🏽

Nice vase/pencil holder! 😄
Love watching your ideas and the results
U SHOULD MAKE A POT USING THE RESIN SCRAPS!
Very cool. It look like a Costa/Starbucks cup. I love it. 🥤👍🏼
Those sticks respond quite well to a dye bath. Quicker than colouring them all individually! 😘
You hit 100,000 subscribers! Congratulations on the accomplishment.
Sweet!! Let’s grab a coffee! 👊Congratulations dude!! 😁🤘
I've seen lots of videos dealing with resin and pressure pots but I no one has ever explained why the pressure pot? I would think a vacuum chamber but I see you're adding air pressure... what does the increased pressure do?
I think it looks like it would make a good pint glass! Good Job!
How cool y'all have wood sticks to use smart.. where I live we only have the plastic ones.
I bet resin smells fantastic when it's being turned!!
I love your videos you got me back into wood turning and all sorts of making stuff.
William Westley cute puppy !
Almost thought you were going to make a coffee cup, with wooden lid. Snap-iny sippy style, with rotating openy closey thing.
I think it looks funky as it is! Nice creativity~
love the channel nick, I've watched so many projects. I ended up buying some resin today actually, not much but enough for my first venture. cheers as always

Utterly shocked and mortified that the Yorkshire Grit did not make an appearance. Please, don't tell me you have run out.
It makes me think of the tumblers/cups we used as kids in the 70's
Those "flowers" 7:54 that come out when hollowing out might make a cool effect for a project. I also thought you chould use steal shavings. You know the one ones that are long and curly. 👍

Have you ever thought of making a funky pint glass?
Dont like the wood base prefer it without
Dawn Mason Then you would use it without...
It’s a bit too chunky. Smaller and round would have looked better in my opinion.
@@Rclay0129 Agreed. That's what I was thinking too!
Great projet. I wonder......what would happen if you mixed wood shavings and the stringy stuff that comes off when you turn a resin piece?? Not sure what you could make but it would definitely be different, if it's feasible. Just thinking and wondering.
You should do something with the big butterfly shavings from hollowing out your resin pieces. They look really neat
Color sticks different colors. Glue them into squares. Rotate the direction in layers mixed with layers of the resin of different colors. I think that it would look cool as a tall cylinder or something. I really like the stuff you make. It makes me want to try this stuff.
You could get a stainless steel insert to make a travel mug!!!
Cool Nick. I like it. Good job lad. I wish I had a lathe.

This was done 4 years ago and I am just watching it now! Lol Trying to catch up with Nicks projects! Lol
Have you tried coloring you sticks with food color dyes, you could soak them and put them in your pressure pot and the color mat go all the way through.
