    I love how consistent you are. 2+ years of "I dont actually know what this wood is, but it looks cool, so I'll use it and see what happens." No snobbery or pretentiousness. It's quite refreshing. Thanks Nick!

    That - STUNNING ! ! ! Yea, "gutting out" the center leaving the match sticks to float in an un-natural state was impressive. And watching how you got there - even better!
    Thank you for sharing...

    Nick, the wood was "green" or not dry. The pressure pot forced the moisture that was in the wood out into the resin.

      I thought maybe it had something to do with the drill holes and match sticks not being glued in. Figuring the square matchsticks dry fitted into the round holes would leave a surprisingly large of air that would come out under pressure or in a vacuum. But I'm no expert by any means so I could be completely off base, lol.

    Hi Nick ! Greetings from Brazil. I love your work.
    I believe the reason for that 'glass effect' is due to the air pressure between the matchstick hole and the resin under pressure: the air is trying to come out (pushing the matchstick out) and the resin is building a thick barrier to let it be released while in the pressure pot. A little bit of engineering here....
    Hope it helps ! Bye Eliana Gotilla

  • @ahmedelbadrawi3757
    @ahmedelbadrawi3757 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    i agree with you that the air came from the matches holes, guess it was stuck in there when you were pouring in the resin, this looks so nice but i think you should kinda fill the outer cracks to prevent any more splitting or breaking ;)
    keep up the good work.

    Its so interesting to read all the teories for the cracking that have already been given! Some have some know-how behind them. My initial guess would have been that the resin didnt go into the drilled holes and therefore there was more air in the resin and it didnt have time to leave before it hardened. But now i think that it probably wasnt that but some of the other more sofiticated guesses like miscalculating the resinmix or the moist wood. But an awesome result nontheless!

    The scenes of endless quantites of resin flying off in micro thin strips and going all over the place are *hilarious. Have you ever made pens or items with secret compartmens such as twist-lock key/jewellery storage that looks like 'ordinary' art? I'd prob. have inset a recessed On/Off button in the light base. The pencil/lolly stick items are lovely items. I wonder if you could recreate that air bubbling effect because that was very "Aquarium-other worldly"..

    Do you leave your pressure pot hooked up over those 24 hours so it can re-pressurize automatically if air leaks out? It looks like pressure was added just as the piece was setting and it was too much and caused it to split depending on which parts of the resin were what hardness.
