My boss actually has a EG civic with 321hp at the wheels with 291lbs/ft of torque with a naturally aspirated honda engine from a S2K. Was in the british Banzai magazine as the first civic in the UK with a K22 block in it :D

Love the S3. I actually thought about getting one before i bought my 2014 Evo X GSR. More than happy with my Evo, since she's a beast after the amount of blood sweat and tears have gone into her, but still looking for a nice relaxing luxury car and this is definitely on my list. Awesome review!!
Bought 2015 s3 with 56kmiles in 2020. I love this car... I've yet to mod it and i feel it's hella fast. Only upgrade is 19x9.5 wheels. And im gonna go ECU and TCU software tune. And probably just enjoy it. It comes 292hp stock. Lmao...
Do you go with APR or IE tuning? I heard APR stop making downpipe for Audi S3 and had someone else suggest to either go with IE or Unitronic? Hows your experience have been? Im looking to purchase 1 soon as well when it becomes available in a Nano Grey as that color is just very astonishing to look at...

I love the Audi S3. I own one. My fear of Tuning it is, a shorter life of the vehicle. I wish I knew perspectively how short that would be. I did do the muffler delete. It makes a world of difference.

Fun fact, the tcu actually limits torque output so if you go for just an ecu tune you are losing out on a decent chunk of power by not getting a tcu tune to go with it

Correct me if I'm wrong but 390 WHP sounds very wrong. IIRC APR measures output at the crank. Factor in the drivetrain loss of awd and you'll get the actual numbers.
hehe, true. catalog datas usually just bhp (because its higher than whp). so if this thing has a 390 whp then the bhp should be around 480. but i dont see that 480 bhp on the apr site (reg. stage 2).....just 387. so yes, it must be "just" 390bhp.....otherwise thats still impressive :)
APR is a off the shelf tune. Same concept as buying frozen pizza from the shop. Custom tunes is where the power can really be defined. Custom tunes is like buying Pizza at a pizza joint. You can make it the way you want it. I prefer custom tunes over any APR or REVO tune.
Wraps are getting so good now they almost look like real paint(at least on video) I remember when you could only get ones that looked like you sprayed it with a rattle can.
just about any german car magazine I know came to the conclusion that even the RS3 is slower on track than a Golf R. Where do I find the track test where it's the other way round?
Beautiful car and that wrap is gorgeous. Only thing I would say is that the owner put a nice cf deck spoiler and a diffuser. Why not put a nice cf front lip as well to sort of complement the whole carbon fiber accent from front to back. Just my two cents.
Really like the S3. Great motor, and nice clean interior. I've gone back and forth between the S3, BMW M235i, Mercedes Benz CLA45AMG or second gen CTS-V as my next ride. I love my boosted LS3 C6, but kinda want a German sports sedan/coupe as more of a daily. My Vette rattles my bones, and you definitely feel every imperfection while on the road. It's a true drivers car in every sense of the word. Followed this dude on Instagram for months.. great clean car. Definitely tastefully modded both internally and externally. Love the green wrap!
They are exactly the same thing. The only change is the name like you said. VW & Audi are the same (just like the S3 8V and the Golf 7 R, same chassi, same engine, same gearbox - S-Tronic/DSG). I repeat, DSG and S-Tronic are EXACTLY the same thing.
Wait I'm confused you started talking about width then finished with length. You said wider wheel base and then shorter wheel base. Think you meant wider track and narrower track. Also the width is called track not wheel base, wheel base is length. Random fact, widening the track width can hurt performance pending on how its done. It make a suspension feel and act softer than it actually is because of the extra leverage the wider track is provides.
I'm curious about the reliability of the transmission after that stage 2 APR tune. I have a 2016 S3 and I'd love to get a tune, but not at the risk of exploding the transmission.
great looking car. I just got an S3 coming from a '16 Camaro SS and '16 M3. the S3 is a fun little car for my short commute. looking forward to taking it to the track. it obviously isn't quite an animal like the previous 2 but it's a nice place to be. biggest thing I don't like so far is the seat should go lower. otherwise it's fun
even if you're in full manual the s tronic will shift right before redline - unless of course you're in 6th. My S3 hasn't been tuned so I don't know if this is because that car has a transmission tune.

I have a question maybe you or someone in the comment section can help. I just bought a 2016 s3 and I love the stance and look of the suspension on this car in this video. I heard you mention that this Audi comes with dynamic magnetic suspension. How can I achieve this look without messing up or taking out the electronic suspension that comes with it. I know it would be easy to throw in a set of coilovers and springs but I don't want to sacrifice ride quality or the ability to change the modes on the cars computer. Thanks in advance to anybody who can help out a fellow Audi owner.

I have the same car & tune w/ intake minus the exaust, NO WAY 390 to the wheels!!! with that said I changed my tires to 245/35/19 from the old 235/35/19 and I seem to get more wheel spin then you did off launch with a wider tire!! Car is FAST no doubt and does everything very well however the car isvery digital, i do miss analog!!!
Audi S3 is awesome! But if I had to choose I would do a RS3 hyperhatch, and if I couldn't get the RS3, I would do the Audi S3. I have Audi 1.8T B5 and I am looking for a new successor. I've been keeping my eye on them for a while. :)
Seems like an all around great package. Especially if you live where it rains or snows. I only have 2 issues with the car. $50+k for a 2.0 turbo AWD small car.. It is basically just a Golf R powertrain right? Reliability would be the second concern.. I just feel that you could get an Evo X and still have $25+k to play with or spend on a house etc.. I know for a fact this S3 stock would be a better car for long trips compared to the Evo X and obviously more comfortable and modern amenities. Hmmm I think the S4 offers more performance per dollar, but then again the S4 is only up 33hp over the S3..
funny that round a track, evo found the golf R to be faster than the RS3, meaning its almost certainly faster than the S3. The Golf R is the best flavour of the current MQB platform cars.
Not really true. Tests comparing the golf r to the s3 show they are almost identical. In some tests depending on driver the RS3 is faster then the a45 amg. Which is faster then the golf r. Go check out the recent RS3 vs a45 amg vs bmw m2. Its really dependent on the driver. A pro driver is able to rotate the RS3 while most journalist says it just understeers all the way. I have an s3 and it keeps up with my pals golf r easily. Both untuned with a downpipe and another pal with an a45 amg cannot pull away from us when we drag to 200+kmph. In fact at higher speeds the s3 sedan starts cutting through the air more easily. ~ 230kmph +
driver mod dude. it always comes down to it. a driver that can take a car that understeers to most, and make it drive through a corner like a rwd car, is either crazy or skilled, both go hand in hand lol
driver or no driver, understeer is understeer. It can either corner under power or it can't. Physics can't be changed by a good driver. If Chris harris can't make a car oversteer, no one can.
How would you compare it with a mustang? I have a 2013 GT/CS that I get to use 6 months of the year if i'm lucky (I live in Calgary, Canada). I test drove a 2010 audi S4 a year ago and quite enjoyed it. I know i'd probably miss the V8 sound but how would you compare the S3 with a 5.0 mustang? Also would you get the S3 manual or paddleshift?
Great review man!! This car looks really tastefully molded. Probably one of the nicest looking S3's I've seen. I'd still rather have the Golf R though. It's cheaper than the Audi with the same performance and more practical with the hatchback. I hate that Audi killed the A3 hatch. Could you review a new Golf R perhaps to compare the two vehicles?
+John Petito I currently own a MK7 GTI with Performance Pack. My previous car was an 06 Audi A3 sportback. To be honest, the VW gives up very little to the Audi. When I say that I am comparing new GTI vs new A3 sedan. I test drove both vehicles and yes the Audi is nicer, but not 8k nicer than the VW when equally equipped. What is nice about owning and Audi is the quality of service you get. When I had my A3 in for services, getting a loaner vehicle was no problem. At a VW dealer, they get all wide eyed when you ask for a loaner vehicle. LOL!!
@@LOUCABRASI You are not comparing them equally. A 2022 Golf R basically comes fully loaded at $44K. To get a comparable S3, you are well past $55K or more. So yes, the Golf R is better value for your dollar. But for some folks, the Audi badge matters more.
In regards to the magnetic shock absorbers that come on the two additional dynamic wheel packages - would running bags or coilovers affect / eliminate the comfort/dynamic/individual settings capabilities do you think?

Awesome S3! There is a company called Pfaff that will do an Audi ECU upgrade without voiding warranty. Favourite Audi is the C6 S6 with that big V10.

DSG and the S-tronic are both the twin clutch! They are both different, the DSG was make by VW and the S-Tronic is Audi's

I have 2007 S3 with APR stage 2+ tune and its done 128000ks and the gearbox is still going strong.

David, seems like the 1-2 shift is odd... is it shifting right away to 3rd? Sounds like its shifting twice after the launch....
funny that round a track, evo found the golf R to be faster than the RS3, meaning its almost certainly faster than the S3. The Golf R is the best flavour of the current MQB platform cars.
Not really true. Tests comparing the golf r to the s3 show they are almost identical. In some tests depending on driver the RS3 is faster then the a45 amg. Which is faster then the golf r. Go check out the recent RS3 vs a45 amg vs bmw m2. Its really dependent on the driver. A pro driver is able to rotate the RS3 while most journalist says it just understeers all the way. I have an s3 and it keeps up with my pals golf r easily. Both untuned with a downpipe and another pal with an a45 amg cannot pull away from us when we drag to 200+kmph. In fact at higher speeds the s3 sedan starts cutting through the air more easily. ~ 230kmph +

driver mod dude. it always comes down to it. a driver that can take a car that understeers to most, and make it drive through a corner like a rwd car, is either crazy or skilled, both go hand in hand lol
driver or no driver, understeer is understeer. It can either corner under power or it can't. Physics can't be changed by a good driver. If Chris harris can't make a car oversteer, no one can.

How would you compare it with a mustang? I have a 2013 GT/CS that I get to use 6 months of the year if i'm lucky (I live in Calgary, Canada). I test drove a 2010 audi S4 a year ago and quite enjoyed it. I know i'd probably miss the V8 sound but how would you compare the S3 with a 5.0 mustang? Also would you get the S3 manual or paddleshift?

I'd still rather have the Golf R though. It's cheaper than the Audi with the same performance and more practical with the hatchback. I hate that Audi killed the A3 hatch.

+John Petito I currently own a MK7 GTI with Performance Pack. My previous car was an 06 Audi A3 sportback. To be honest, the VW gives up very little to the Audi. When I say that I am comparing new GTI vs new A3 sedan. I test drove both vehicles and yes the Audi is nicer, but not 8k nicer than the VW when equally equipped.
What is nice about owning and Audi is the quality of service you get. When I had my A3 in for services, getting a loaner vehicle was no problem. At a VW dealer, they get all wide eyed when you ask for a loaner vehicle. LOL!!
I know its an old comment, as far as cheaper golf r than audi s3, not nowadays. The golf r is a good $8k to $10k more.
@@LOUCABRASI You are not comparing them equally. A 2022 Golf R basically comes fully loaded at $44K. To get a comparable S3, you are well past $55K or more. So yes, the Golf R is better value for your dollar. But for some folks, the Audi badge matters more.
In regards to the magnetic shock absorbers that come on the two additional dynamic wheel packages - would running bags or coilovers affect / eliminate the comfort/dynamic/individual settings capabilities do you think?

Why would you go from the S4 to the S3? The S3 is a Golf with the rear wheels having 30% power SOMEtimes.
Great video David I would have to say my favorite Audi has to be the S8 or the A6 Avant wagon I think it is because of how mean looking they are.
Actually the R is faster on some tracks, the real difference is the final drive ratio.
That's a great looking car, I might look into getting one in the next couple years.
