Except the Ripley @mtbyumyum is riding is 8-9k, this is not apples to apples as far as the target buyer. Enve wheels, XTR, etc no way that is a 3-4k bike. In this case this bike should have been reviewed stock because that's how most would buy it. The ride experience will not mirror what the stock bike will feel like with all that bling on YumYum's bike.
@@Luxraeco he does love his upgrades and has a good relationship with his local dealer. The frame is still the same though and he seems impressed with it
TOTALLY!!! Unfortunately I leave abroad and need to buy my bike locally but I would totally buy it from the sponsored cause this dude got me stoked about this bike!
I love Aluminum bikes. I've had zero complaints with my Ripmo AF. I would absolutely love a Ripley AF! Super stoked they came out with this bike. The only piece of kit I am picky about is my brakes and suspension. I will gladly save money by going aluminum over carbon on my frames and run good sus and brakes. I'm not that picky with drivetrain at all though. I feel like SLX works just as good as XT or XTR. Same with GX vs XX1.
Yeah, and it’s more capable than the carbon Ripley. It’s like the Ripmo and the Ripley had a baby and it’s this more affordable bike. Pretty rad! If you want one I would jump on it. These will be sold out for months and months. Call Chris at Salt Cycles. 801-943-8502
Thank you so much for review and all your reviews. I bought mine from salt cycle yesterday. It's going to be my first full suspension mountain bike and I'm 47.
First ride today on my ripley AF 2023! Wow is just fun to ride ! I will keep it ! And you can charge in the fun way on trail ! I’m 5,8 my ripley AF is medium ( perfect $ and size ) climb like goat believe me . Now I know why you love this bike ! Yum yum !!! 😎😎😎🇲🇽
Another great review! Got to give it up to Ibis for offering another AF bike with their amazing suspension platform and geometry at a great value. I've also seen people all over the internet asking them for an AF Ripley, so props to them for listening to the customers!
Thanks for making this review happen, despite the difficulty in getting the bike and having to piece it together yourself with some non stock components, I found it extremely helpful! I owned a V3 Ripley for a couple of years and loved it! Sold it some months back, bought a longer travel enduro rig which was fun and awesome in it's own right, but way more bike than I need most of the time, so it's since been sold, too. My other bike is a carbon ht single speed, which is my daily driver, but I'm ready for a full suspension rig again and really prefer the feel of a short travel 29er :) On the waiting list for this Ripley AF now, I think it's gonna be a nice solution to having a more capable short travel trail bike that is still playful and climbs well...and keep it budget friendly. Kept my carbon wheels from my previous Ripley build, so bonus upgrade right there, haha!!
This review is kind of how some us buy our bikes...new geo frame but used so we put upgrades of parts we have from previous bikes. You didn’t talk about the hyper glide XTR vs Deore or action of the fork...you kept it about the bike as a whole and I think you did a fair job. Thanks for the good reviews and good content.
I'm one of those guys who thinks prices are getting insane! I have a moral budget of $3K! This year I got a great deal on a V1 Ripmo Carbon NX build. I won it on a bid on Ebay for $3400 including tax. The shop was all the way in Maine and I'm located in NorCal. It was free shipping. The bike had been in storage so it was like new. I did eventually upgrade the groupset to SLX 4P brakes and a GX drivetrain which costed me about $600 more and think it was worth every penny. Not a fan of SRAM drivetrains but that was the best I could do with limited supplies due to Covid - the bike industry is capitalizing on Covid but it's causing a shortage of supplies. I'm very happy with my Ripmo. I do have a lot of love for the Ripley since it was my first Ibis bike, but prefer the extra support on the Ripmo. I buy a bike about every 5 years. The next one I buy I'll try to lower the budget to $2K. I notice some brands offer a lot with their base models and there are some great deals out there. We'll see 5 years from now.....LOL...
You keep saying 3k but your not riding the 3k bike, your talking about a 5k to 6k bike with those wheels you got along with all the other upgrades, you should consider riding the 3k build so you can tell your viewers how the actual 3k bike feels, just a thought.
Agreed. After throwing on carbon wheels, bars, and a Factory fork, you are essentially riding a different bike. There is a difference between swapping out the saddle, grips, and pedals (touch points) vs upgrading the wheels, suspensions, brakes (performance.) This video is more of a review of the upgraded components than the bike itself.
I hate to argue with you guys but cut me some slack... First, I'm not a big time TH-camr that has the eye of attention from bike manufactures. They don't send me bikes to review and I'm not sponsored so I'm not in the "know". Second, be honest, have you ridden ENVE wheels and bars? They literally are wheels guys... they don't do anything different. The hub is a little better but honetly, I didn't once talk about the engagement of the hub. So, non-issue. Also, the Grip 2 damper in the factory fork isn't any better than the grip damper... has slightly more adjustability but honestly, no different. Several pro's actual prefer the grip damper in their forks. Again, fork.... non-issue. Now for the overall weight of the bike. This bike I tested weighed in at 29 lbs 6 oz. so a pound or so lighter... just remember, I borrowed the frame and took the wheels and bars off my Yeti SB130 and Salt Cycles threw a bunch of slx parts and xt brakes on there for me to test ride the bike... Doing the best I can with what I have...
@@mtbyumyum sorry if my reply came off a little harsh. I meant no disrespect. You mentioned several times in your video that you are impressed by this $3K bike. But you were not riding a $3K bike. That was my quibble. I love your channel! Keep doing what you do!
@@dirtbike9003 Yeah the wheels alone are 2.5k, I see a cassette on that bike that costs more than the whole drivetrain on the stock build. I know YumYum doesn't get bikes from Ibis so I get it. The bike shop should have tried to let him review the stock build because that is the bulk of how the bike will be sold.
I really like the more robust alloy frames. I tend toward aggressive riding which means I crash. I am always afraid of brakeage on carbon frames. Yes, you can break an alloy frame but not as easily. The lower price point is also more attractive.!
This bike will sell like hotcakes ... hoping it's available in big numbers! It's also the preview for the next iteration carbon Ripley whenever that gets revealed/released. I agree, Jason, that the Shimano SLX and Deore, especially if you want to conserve your $$$, are the best value around. Slight weight "penalties", but very nearly the same performance. Lots of credible reviewers saying the same. PS: How's the skiing this year in Utah? Stay safe and healthy .... best to you and your Family!
Skiing in Utah this year has been terrible.... WE NEED SNOW!!!! Thanks for the comment! I agree, slx is money... have it on my Altitude with no complaints! This new alloy Ripley will sell like crazy problem is, inventory. If you want one, order it now!!!
I watched some of your videos a few months ago and picked up a Ripley AF Deore. Love it! Just watched a whole bunch more videos and subscribed. Great content! Love the Ripley. I grew up riding rigid mountain bikes in the 90's. Tried an HD5 before buying the ripley and it just felt goofy - too raked out in the front. The ripley felt natural and has been lots of fun. Appreciate your thoughts, just watched comparisons on a bunch of bikes and decided I'm sticking with my ripley for a good while! Been doing lots of riding with my 2 year old on a shotgun pro seat. we love it
That's awesome. Riding with my kids has been a blast. My oldest is now in the middle school NICA programs racing and doing very well. Glad you found a good fit for you in the Ripley. It has easily been my favorite bike of all time!!
I got alloy v3 5010 s build. Went with alloy and 27.5 because I am a heavy dude. Chose a better build than frame material due to trying to stay close to 4K. No regrets.
I'm a big fan of your channel. I would like watching you riding the stock build. Those 3k in upgrades certainly changed a lot the way the bike feels. Giant trance 3k would be like 3 pounds lighter than this ripley 3k stock built. 👍🏽
I love my carbon v4 Ripley custom built with XT and a Pike, but I only have it because I can... I’d totally buy the Ripley AF. Can’t go wrong with good geo, suspension and an aluminium frame.
Totally agree with this review. Was able to do demo in MN at local bike trail and this bike rips! I was a bit surprised at how good it felt and honestly not a huge difference from my Pivot Trail 429 except maybe on the climbs as there’s no other trail bike I’ve found that climbs as well as the T429, but at half the cost and with similar geo - it really is a great bike at a great price point! Not easy to find but ibis team said they were available.
Gonna watch your review first as the tide of reviews on this bike came in hard and fast. No wonder you went to St. George. Great work and review Jason.
Thanks for the numbers. Most important thing is the frame. Next shock and fork. This is the base. Everything else can be replaces, as you said. For example if it is worn or personal preference. A really good bike doesn't need to cost more than 5k. You can even find good bikes less than 3k. It doesn't need to be carbon and super fancy stuff on it. What for? It is not a show bike. It is an utility for usage that you crash. My friend's carbon nomad is lighter than my alu nomad. You can feel it when you lift the bike up. That's nice. But man, I ride mostly in the bikepark and use a lift. For me the best thing is always to build the bike up by myself. Every each part is my personal preference, then. From the beginning.
haha it's been years, or actually decades since I last thought about my childhood RedLine bmx... loved that bike. Eye'd it for a long time at the bike shop before being able to afford it. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have been waiting for an AF Ripley. I live in metro Denver but called Chris at Salt Cycles today and placed my order. Thanks again for the video and keep the videos coming.
Ok. So, im JUST getting into MTB. Been riding a Trek Marlin 7 HT this season just to get a feel for riding again since my teenage BMX days. I'm 51 now but I have the bike itch again so Im looking to get my 1st FS bike but BUDGET IN MIND. And I agree, the prices are insane. ID what your finances look like, its just crazy high. All that to say that I've narrowed my choices to the Ibis Ripmo AF, Canyon Spectral 29, Trek Fuel EX, Commencal Meta, Polygon Siskiu T8.. I know still a lot but geez there are so many and I have looked at MOST.
I’m on my second Knolly so yeah I like aluminum bikes! I’ve demo’d some of the carbon bikes you’ve ridden and reviewed, like the Ripmo, Switchblade, and trail 429 and definitely don’t feel like I’m giving anything up with my aluminum Knolly’s, even if they are a few lbs heavier! I was just there in STG last weekend visiting kids and grand kids but only had time for a short ride at Paradise Rim (fun trail!). Love the videos, thanks for sharing!

I cracked my frame on my bike that I'm riding and this review has led me towards the Ripleyaf. Great review and you were doing great on the barrel trail. I can never hit those jumps always scared of them. Hahaha Hopefully one day I can hit those jumps if I can get a frame that lasts more than 6 months. Ibis looks like a quality brand.
With the question on affordable bikes, I feel that reviewing bikes in the $2500 to $3500 range would be better since it is the price range of a large portion of mountain bikers look at. I will probably get the Ripley AF next Spring (Shooting for March). I know I do not have the money to go after the $5K and up bike. However, a comparison like the one in this video has value. In my mind knowing that the Aluminum Ripley is 90% of the $7K Carbon gives me that "warm/fuzzy" feeling that I am making the right choice.
Yeah it's a great idea to test these more affordable bikes because bikes like you say are getting so expensive and not everyone can afford those, i think it's great that Ibis decided to go in that direction so the rest of us blue collar people can afford to have something state of the art but in AL!
Yes, you should definitely review both high-end and low-end bikes. Especially in this situation where the manufacturer offers both carbon and aluminum versions. It would also be nice if you could review them without higher-end components like the Envy wheels on this bike. I think all of us are interested in how these things ride right out of the box.
Personally, I think most people, about 90% who buy the more expensive stuff do it, because they think they need it based on reviews, and what the pros ride, and what media is stuffing in their face. I ride more budget deore group set, because it performs flawlessly, and yes it is a slight bit heavier than xtr, but if your not racing, and winning races, then really xtr or xx1 isn't needed. It will last just as long. When considering a new bike, the most important thing is a good frame that fits your riding style, and your body properly, and good suspension. Budget suspension not the way to save money, your ride will suffer
Hello! I’m thinking of buying a carbon Ripley, however I have heard rumors of an update maybe this spring for that frame. Because of this I have decided to wait a little. However, when I saw this Ripley AF I got a bit worried about the updates on the carbon Ripley. I am not interested in a slacker head angle on Carbon Ripley, it seems to be more or less perfect as it is. Should I wait for an update on the carbon Ripley or should I buy now? What do you think?
I think that perfect Trailbike geometry is 76* HTA, 65* STA, and 480mm reach size-L. In my opinion, the the Ripley AF is improved by having a slacker HTA.
I don't think there is any way you would see a new "updated" Ripley this year.... not even a paint update... Ibis and the rest of the bike industry is waaaaayyyy behind on orders. Think about it. People have Ripleys on order today and wont see them till August... so if someone orders a current Ripley in say, March, it likely won't ship till September-October.... they need to first get caught up on orders. New paint likely next spring is my guess. Either way, the current carbon Ripley with a 140mm fork has perfect, PERFECT, geo for a 120mm sporty bike.... 66 hta 75.5 sta
@@mtbyumyum Gonna be until next spring till I can afford it too lol, still don't have 4.2k saved up for a carbon bike. Definitely gonna get the carbon v4 Ripley next year tho, perfect bike for tight trails and marathon riding, even if they change the geo I'll just buy it used 😂.
I would also love to see a Specialized Epic Evo review. I am very curious how you think the Epic Evo compares to the Ripley. I really enjoy your reviews because I do not have many opportunities to demo bikes myself.
Both my bikes are right at or just over 3K. First bike is a 2018 YT Capra Aluminum Comp. Second Bike is a 2021 Scott Spark RC 900 Comp Carbon. I think it is amazing what you can get for $3,000.00. I really don't think you need to spend much more. Of course I spent about 1K on each bike to kit it out the way I like it. But that was over time. So long travel YT for big trails. Scott XC Race bike for general trail riding. This works out great for me.
That's a pretty cool bike but I really wish you had ridden it stock to see how a bike that actually cost $3,000 performs; the 'few little upgrades' include Enve bars ($170) & wheels ($2550), XTR cassette ($380) (& maybe shifter & derailleur too, I'm not sure),XT brakes ($420) and a Fox Factory fork ($909). The upgrades cost 50% more than the bike.
Hate to argue w ya but I built the bike with what I had and parts from Salt Cycles.... Unfortunately I don't have the eye of attention from the bike manufactures like larger TH-camrs and sponsored riders. The bar and wheel are from my Yeti sb130, fork is off my Yeti sb115 and other parts from Salt Cycles that were used for the most part. Doing the best I can with what I have... in any case, the bike was reviewed and after riding dozens of bike I can tell you, the kit doesn't matter much in my reviews. Rear hub is noticeable but the rest is fine...
I’m definitely a guy that loves aluminum more than carbon. Probably because I can’t afford it 🥴 I’m riding the ripmo af with all the top of the line parts except for the stock wheels and hubs. Rides like a dream! I think that if this bike came out 9 months ago when I got my ripmo af, I probably would have gone with the ripley af instead
Hey Jason! Thanks for the review. I put in an order for the 2021 giant trance as you’ve mentioned before and this video it’s the best budget bike to get. Would you recommend sticking with the trance or converting over to this ibis? Obviously there is an 800 difference but curious your thoughts?
Hey there 👋 I value your opinion and experience and wanted to ask a quick question. My favorite trails are 1. Zen & Gooseberry and 2. Long climbs followed by steep descents up Little and Big cottonwood. I care more about uphill efficiency and techy capabilities than I do about hard downhill charging soak everything up. A bike that could be an all arounder but also help me clean tech and climb. I’m coming off a ‘16 stumpy. After watching your reviews and others, here is my top 3 in order. Is this what you’d recommend and any others I should consider? 1. Ibis Ripley AF (I can get an SLX build for $2,800 which seems like a killer deal) 2. Ibis Ripley carbon (I’ve wanted a lightweight carbon bike for a while) 3. Pivot Trail 429 Race 4. Ibis Ripmo (I’m not convinced I need that much travel) And I’m not interested in specialized, ready to try something new and different. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Great review! That seems like a great package for $3,000. I am perfectly fine with Deore drivetrains. The spec on that bike is perfect for the price point, it even comes with a Performance Fork and not a Rhythm (which is also decent fork). It is ready to go out of the box no upgrades needed.
Bingo!! I think this is a killer value for users needing a more affordable bike and want something other than Trek, Spesh, Cannondale or Giant... Hope to see you this evening!!
Pretty good compared with what you run on your own ripley, do you feel like the Af has more comfort on trail or stiff as the carbon? And do you think the performance of the frames are similar, the AF should Be more stabil on the downs with the 1degree slackness of HA. Cheers
Yeah, I would say the overall feel of the AF was more comfortable and smooth. More stable and composed with the slightly more aggressive geo. It's a very good do-everything trail bike!
Hi! Thanks for the review! Would you tell that this particular Ripley is as capable as SC Tallboy? I know that Ibis clims better, but carbon version was (as per various reviews) kinda less stable than Santa Cruz in terms of going downhill. I also understand that those expensive upgrades (grip2 fox, enve and other things) still won't alter drastically the overall operation of the suspension and geo of the bike (the later is subject to use of the same travel numbers as was intended by the manufacturer).
great review. bikes are too expensive, and people are rolling mad money beyond what's required, but if you got it its fine. I do still think it's funny when pros on the podiums ride $7k bikes and Joe Shmo's are on $12k of bike though, which is all too common these days. I'd like to see a Ripley AF mod options video, especially as it concerns boosting travel to 140mm with the Fox34 it comes with, or swapping out for a Fox 36, DVO or whatever. I think suspension mods are the thing most average riders consider when they don't have much dough to spend, but want to be sure how to spend it when they do. How does "overforking" a Ripley help or hurt the design? change the geometry? etc... Keep up the solid content!
Great review. So would putting a 140mm fork on the carbon Ripley give it more AF descending ability? Given a choice AF vs Carbon plus 140mm what would you chose? Irrespective of budget?
Four months ago I got the Ripley XT carbon build factories suspension close to $7000with tax and it weighs 29 pounds with pedals. It’s hard to believe that this bike away weighs 30 pounds I would’ve gone for this build if it was available.I love my bike though
I’ve got a large carbon Ripley w/ the xt build and the carbon s35 wheels and fairly light Maxxis 2.4 tires. Mine weighs 28.6 lbs with pedals using the scale at my lbs. I’m hard pressed to figure out how I could get the bike below 27lbs with any kind of confidence inspiring rubber on it.
I appreciate your videos and the breakdown on all the bikes. Unfortunately most have been on bikes that I can’t afford so this review was great to see. I know Specialized has a new Status out for $2600.00. Would be interested on your thoughts about that bike or other affordable bikes that can get the job done. Keep it up.👍
Im 5'9" 180 lbs. Im looking to get my first mt bike after being a roadie for many years. I really like the AF but not sure if I should get a medium or a large. Any thoughts? BTW, I cant find the bike anywhere!
Absolutely. Your Giant Trance video a couple years ago was the final nail in getting me into my first full sus bike. Question, what if i wanted more of a SC 5010 sus setup. Can I get a longer travel fork and shock on this bike? Maybe bump it up to 130 / 130 or 140 / 130. What are your thoughts?
assumeing you have the 29'er trance, I'm not sure what changes you could make to the fork... I would think bumping it 10mm would be okay, just be aware of what it does to the rest of the geo... you dont want the sta to slack...
Hi, really like the channel a lot. Did you test/review the bike with a fox 34 Factory with a 140mm air shaft installed instead of the OE 34 Perf 130mm?
What length stem are you running on your ripleys? I'm also 5'8" and have been experimenting with up to a 60mm stem since I feel a little cramped on it. Also own yeti sb150 medium which feels perfect.
I would enjoy reviews of less expensive bikes, comparing them to the more expensive. I've owned carbon and aluminum MTBs and to me the only real difference is weight. The larger tires, lower air pressure, and full suspension make the differences in frame materials much less important than in road or gravel bikes, I think.
I tried MTB 2 years ago and just impulse bought a 160/150 travel Canyon Spectral (im still very happy with it) but feel really over biked for Illinois (not much for elevation changes but its 10-15 feet down and 15 feet climbs rinse and repeat (short punchy downs/climbs). I want something more efficient for singletrack but can still get rowdy if you want to jump and take it to wisconsin/michigan/trips to bentonville etc. The spur is interesting too but it's pushing the budget almost 2 times this bike with similar geometry (i feel like the 35mm stachion Rock shox Sid is a better setup). Anywho, how is this bike for jumping decent size jumps/gaps will it hold up I know you said it's a more softer ride in your other videos?
I am considering building up a Ripley AF. I know you can run a 140mm fork. I have a 2018 YT Capra 29er. I wanted to put my Rockshox Zeb but run it at 150mm. I would put the latest Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate 190x45mm. Then put all my build from my bike to the Ripley. This would make it very burly and heavy, but I think it would be easier to pedal and climb then my enduro bike. I live in San Antonio and have no elevation to speak of. So in your opinion can I run a 150mm fork on it?
That trail looks so fun! What’s it called? I’ve got to get outta SLC for a few and that looks prime! I’m waiting for my Ripley carbon set to deliver in May. Should I save the cash and stick with an AF???
I was wondering how the The ripley is as far as pedal strikes with the shorter travel DW Link suspension. I have a Niner Rip 9 and have problems with a lot of pedal strikes here on the East Coast.(lots of roots). It's mostly just annoying but have the occasional hard crash because of it. I was considering a shorter travel bike. Thanks!
Of course it's possible... would just depend on your riding style and terrain. would bring the hta to 65 and sta to 75.5... the bike is so capable it might be a lot of fun... with a Fox 36!!!
I stayed with AL cause of cost. Budget was $2200 and ended up with a sweet 2018 canyon spectral. To go carbons I would have been buying super old geometry.
Riding and old updated 110mm Cannondale. Was thinking of moving to a 130mm or more bike for more technical riding. Do you feel this frame with 120mm is enough?
Hey man- A huge fan of your videos. To answer your question, I think once it goes above 5k it's starting to get a little expensive. The Ripley AF is right in my budget, especially after some upgrades. My question is, I am planning on going to a bike park a few times this spring and summer, riding on Green and Blue trails. Do you think this bike would be able to handle things like that? I live on the east coast, so not as steep and not as long. It's Snowshoe Mth bike park, West Virginia. If you get time, I love to hear your comments on this!
Yeah, I think for green and blue trails the Ripley AF is an excellent options. As your speed and difficulty of terrain increase, you'll likely want more suspension and maybe slacker hta. The Ripley AF has very good geo and can tackle trails that other 120mm travel bikes might get overwhelmed.
Yeti sb130-pivot switchblade or ibis ripely.. Which one ? Go! Lots of grade climbing in so-cal to get to decent down hill trails. No dealers close by to test ride so will have to order online somewhere maybe even a used bike
Everyone is loving the fact reviewers are testing bikes we can all afford... keep it up dude 🚴♂️😀👍

Any time!
I saw the Ibis launch ad and immediately began refreshing for this upload.
That's awesome. haha thanks!!
@@mtbyumyum Do you know if buying the frame only will be an option in the future?
I love Aluminum bikes. I've had zero complaints with my Ripmo AF. I would absolutely love a Ripley AF! Super stoked they came out with this bike. The only piece of kit I am picky about is my brakes and suspension. I will gladly save money by going aluminum over carbon on my frames and run good sus and brakes. I'm not that picky with drivetrain at all though. I feel like SLX works just as good as XT or XTR. Same with GX vs XX1.
Would be pretty sick to have both in a fleet 🤘🔥
WOW ive wanted the carbon ripley for so long but just couldn't do it at full price, the AF is probably the one that will get me on a Ripley! Thanks !

Hi Jason. I definitely think you need to be riding an reviewing more of the bikes that most folks can afford.

I'm very happy with my Ripmo. I do have a lot of love for the Ripley since it was
my first Ibis bike, but prefer the extra support on the Ripmo.
I buy a bike about every 5 years. The next one I buy I'll try to lower the budget to $2K. I notice some brands offer a lot with their base models and there are some great deals out there. We'll see 5 years from now.....LOL...
V1 brothers 🤣🤘🔥
Nice, congrats! The V1 Ripmo is still to this day one of the best trail bikes I've ever ridden!!
Great video. Finally bit the bullet and got one at 25% off. 2 to 4 weeks and can't wait. First mtb!!
Nice. Congrats!!
You keep saying 3k but your not riding the 3k bike, your talking about a 5k to 6k bike with those wheels you got along with all the other upgrades, you should consider riding the 3k build so you can tell your viewers how the actual 3k bike feels, just a thought.
Exactly, that’s a factory 34, not the grip 34 on the 3k build. There’s 2k in upgrades I’m betting. 33lbs is closer to accurate.
Was on the fence but your review convinced me on the ripley .enjoyed your review obviously
Nice, glad it was helpful! Call Chris at Salt Cycles... he can save you a lot of money on a Ripley right now including custom builds!! 801-943-8502
Great review Jason! I agree with many here that sub 4K bikes are hugely popular and worth reviewing 👍👍
Thanks! Link to bike here: bit.ly/3obSiCd
I got alloy v3 5010 s build. Went with alloy and 27.5 because I am a heavy dude. Chose a better build than frame material due to trying to stay close to 4K. No regrets.
This is incredibly intriguing and tempting at $3k. What a sick bike.
I'm a big fan of your channel. I would like watching you riding the stock build. Those 3k in upgrades certainly changed a lot the way the bike feels. Giant trance 3k would be like 3 pounds lighter than this ripley 3k stock built. 👍🏽
Yeah, I think the giant would be lighter at the same price point
@@mtbyumyum same capabilities? Which one would you take for long rides with just a few step trails? I'm talking about 40 miles.
I love my carbon v4 Ripley custom built with XT and a Pike, but I only have it because I can... I’d totally buy the Ripley AF. Can’t go wrong with good geo, suspension and an aluminium frame.
so true... good geo, suspension and alloy frame all day if you don't mind the slight weight penalty. alloy rides so smooth too!!! it's been awhile
Thanks!! It’s like the Ripley in the Ripmo had a baby. It’s right in between those two bikes in capability
Two AF models now ,Ibis on fire 🔥
Solid review as always champ.🙏👌
Thank you!
I just heard of this bike today and first thought was you!
haha thanks dude!!
Nice, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Jason for doing these reviews. It isn’t easy making and editing videos when you have a full time job.
Thanks Paul!
Glad your back!
I feel yah, sounds like the same scenario when I was younger and RedLine was the envy. Bikes bikes and bikes people know when it works.
Redline bmx were nice as
haha it's been years, or actually decades since I last thought about my childhood RedLine bmx... loved that bike. Eye'd it for a long time at the bike shop before being able to afford it. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have been waiting for an AF Ripley. I live in metro Denver but called Chris at Salt Cycles today and placed my order. Thanks again for the video and keep the videos coming.
Nice!! Glad you were able to get one. It's a hot bike and they're in short supply.
1 0f the best vids yet. Wanna purchase that sick bike rack! Great Bike review!!! Thanks Jay!

I've heard amazing things about Knolly!! Thanks!!

Would love a Pivot 429 but realistically leaning more toward Ripley AF Deore. Want a trail bike. I have an enduro now
Finally found one available and awaiting its shipment
Heyyyyyy...you finally tested out the Ripley AF! Awesome review!
Hey, thanks!
@@mtbyumyum You gotta try out the Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 1. I think you’ll like that bike a lot :)
Yea I would love to see you ride a Giant trance x. Or the new alloy stump jumper.
Yeah, for sure try the Ripley or Ripmo AF.... excellent value and very good bikes for the money!!
Yeah, it's exciting to so smaller brands like Ibis here building Alloy!!
Brian rocks! Always a great review!
Noted! Thanks!
Here's to hoping for a Ripmo AF/ Ripley AF comparo vid, ideally as stock as possible. For selfish reasons ;) Keep up the great content, Jason!
That would be great, I'll see what I can do!! Thx!
100% SPOT ON!!
Bingo.
Good job on ibis for releasing AFfordable bikes! I want
I don’t think I would worry about the slacker head tube angle. The Ripmo AF is 1 degree slacker as well I think.
Please review the 2021 Specialized Epic Evo! I'd love to buy an Ibis Ripley but it's hard to get it here in Brazil! Nice review, Cheers!
"This bike preforms almost as well as my $8,000 ripley" Of course it should, the bike cost almost 8k as he has it set up
Hate to argue w ya but I built the bike with what I had and parts from Salt Cycles....
@@mtbyumyum Its just something that your should mention in the video
mention the upgrades? I thought I did...
That's awesome. Yeah, the Ripley AF is a little more capable that the carbon model and I think it will suite a lot of different riders really well.
Hey Jason! Thanks for the review. I put in an order for the 2021 giant trance as you’ve mentioned before and this video it’s the best budget bike to get. Would you recommend sticking with the trance or converting over to this ibis? Obviously there is an 800 difference but curious your thoughts?
The trance feels more sporty and nimble. Just depends on your riding style and trails
1. Ibis Ripley AF (I can get an SLX build for $2,800 which seems like a killer deal)
2. Ibis Ripley carbon (I’ve wanted a lightweight carbon bike for a while)
3. Pivot Trail 429 Race
4. Ibis Ripmo (I’m not convinced I need that much travel)
And I’m not interested in specialized, ready to try something new and different.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Good reviews man keep it up. Yes please review more affordable bikes between 3 to 5k.
Thanks! Will do!
I wish they kept the same head angle as the carbon frame. I hope they come out with an AF Exie
Great review!!
Glad you enjoyed it
The first review that I find today about this bike with a unique and different approach!good stuff 👍 sick trail too What trail is that?
Thanks you! Trails are Zen and Barrel trails in St George Utah
As many others mention, would be nice to see more affordable options. Would love to see BASE LEVEL Ripley AF vs Tallboy D vs New Blur TR

late spring 2021
@@mtbyumyum Awesome! Looking forward to the Specialized Epic Evo review!
I would love to see you review more budget friendly bikes. Keep spreading the stoke!
Thank you for the kind words and support!
Thanks brother, i hear rumours that more versions are coming, dvo and the like.
Another great review. 👍
Thanks you! This was a lot of fun to ride.
We need more high end companies to follow suite. This bike is going to be sold out before our local stores are even stocked lol
Thank you for your review. Shocked that I haven't subscribed yet, but I just did. How is the Deore drivetrain and brakes?
Yes. More like the TB4 for sure. Not as sporty as the lighter carbon ripley. Plan on discussing this comparison more in the live stream tomorrow
great review. bikes are too expensive, and people are rolling mad money beyond what's required, but if you got it its fine.
The AF in there still makes me chuckle. Sorry. :P As always, super thorough review and, of course, well ridden!
haha yeah dude!! Hope you're doing well?!!
@@mtbyumyum Doing just fine, yes. Can't wait until the next road trip, I'll holler when I'm in your neck of the woods!
At 5”10 should I get a large frame. I’m 190lbs
Great review. So would putting a 140mm fork on the carbon Ripley give it more AF descending ability? Given a choice AF vs Carbon plus 140mm what would you chose? Irrespective of budget?
I prefer the 140mm fork on the ripley
Any noticeable difference in feel with the Alum vs. CF frame? Stiffness, damping, etc? Would be nice to know
overall felt smoother than the carbon model
Let's discuss in the live stream this evening....
I appreciate your videos and the breakdown on all the bikes. Unfortunately most have been on bikes that I can’t afford so this review was great to see. I know Specialized has a new Status out for $2600.00. Would be interested on your thoughts about that bike or other affordable bikes that can get the job done. Keep it up.👍
Def more of this content.
Thank you!!
I guess we know what the new CF Ripley is going to look like, since the new Ripmo V2 was a spin-off of the Ripmo AF.
I’m 5.8 and ride a large giant trance feels good, but I do want to try a medium
@@lee.j7077 I'm 5'9" and have a medium Giant Trance (2018 Advanced One) as a large felt a little more stretched out than I like.
Dude, the Ripley will be an excellent companion for your 150... what a setup!! 750mm bars 40mm stem
It´s awesome how silent the bike is !!!
It really is! Dead silent!!
I'm planning a work-from-minivan road trip this Spring. Which trail system is this? I've seen it in several of your vids (I think), and gotta go!
Is it stiffer than the carbon version?
My exact question too!
If you could own one bike would you take this one or the new rocky altitude? Apples and oranges I know, but just curious.
They’re just too different. I like owning both though!
Looks like Barrel trail.it’s in the same area as the Zen trail.
yep, Zen and Barrel
I was wondering how the The ripley is as far as pedal strikes with the shorter travel DW Link suspension. I have a Niner Rip 9 and have problems with a lot of pedal strikes here on the East Coast.(lots of roots). It's mostly just annoying but have the occasional hard crash because of it. I was considering a shorter travel bike. Thanks!
Jason, so with the slacker setup is a 140mm fork still an option? Also, have you ridden the new stump jumper or plan on it?
Of course it's possible... would just depend on your riding style and terrain. would bring the hta to 65 and sta to 75.5... the bike is so capable it might be a lot of fun... with a Fox 36!!!
Hello Jason!
Are those One Up aluminum pedals when you were putting the bike on the velocirax? How are they?
Thanks!!!
My wife had oneup, these were Canfield crampons
I stayed with AL cause of cost. Budget was $2200 and ended up with a sweet 2018 canyon spectral. To go carbons I would have been buying super old geometry.
Riding and old updated 110mm Cannondale. Was thinking of moving to a 130mm or more bike for more technical riding. Do you feel this frame with 120mm is enough?
I wish revel would come out with an aluminum rascal.
YES
that would be money!!
I got a question. Since video is 1 year old, can you still get a Ripley aluminum frame? And is it made in USA?
How does the stability on the Ripley AF compare to the Ripmo? I'm considering selling my V1 and getting this.
Yeti sb130-pivot switchblade or ibis ripely.. Which one ? Go!
Lots of grade climbing in so-cal to get to decent down hill trails. No dealers close by to test ride so will have to order online somewhere maybe even a used bike
