Ella as a disabled old crone, thank you so much for making accessibility a focus of your book. 🖤 I'm really looking forward to reading it. A couple of years ago I watched a YT video where the practitioner had such an elaborate ritual for casting a circle, and then removing it, that it alone would have taken me hours (with necessary rest breaks), and left me exhausted and in pain for at least the next day. Things like that are very discouraging to disabled people, especially when no accessible alternatives are offered.
This was so lovely to watch. Great interview! This is a question for both Ivy and Ella. I know Ella mentioned that how you dispose of a spell is also part of it. I wanted to ask, if you have for example a candle spell and it’s leftovers, what do you do? I’ve had candles that left melted wax and it feels weird throwing them away but I can’t bury them (don’t think it’s good for the environment nor I have a place to do so). I usually hold them and thank them for the help and then dispose of it in the trash but it just feels wrong. Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you for this interview! 💜
Loved this!! In Italy we have it too, not to congratulate people before the event has happened. In Italian folklore it is related to attracting envy, evil eye, and those who don’t have your best interest at heart would “plot” against you.
Ivy, you just come up with the BEST content! I’m so happy that you interviewed Ella Harrison! I have her book and I’m in the process of reading it. Her book has such beautiful illustrations! I read the introduction, but I need to re-read it. I love her introduction! I hope you are gathering ideas for all of your books. You could do a book on just candle magic! I think I’m going to get a special notebook just for your candle magic! Just wanted you to know that I enjoyed this interview as well! ❤❤❤❤❤
I’m loving this convo!! The sacred tree/grove Ella might be talking about around the 13:35 timestamp is likely a reference to the ancient Roman epic poem Pharsalia (it details the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great) written by Lucan! It’s book iii 399-452 Caesar destroys the sacred grove (super easy to find online and read if anyone’s curious!)
I actually had a similar experience with Datura/Devils trumpet. I am taking a poisonous plant medicine course and the day after learning about it and doing meditations with it I found a solitary plant growing and blooming like a weed in a parking lot garden thing.... I was like... Is that what I think it is?! It was and I pulled over and asked to harvest a flower! So interesting that it happened to you so similar. I felt like the plant was like officially introducing itself and saying we can be friends!
as a german folk practitioner, this made me cry. I had the exact same experience with Holle. It is a good feeling to see so many of these things addressed, even the uncomfortable parts of our heritage
I just started this video and you are TOOOOO funny for that lash explanation girrrrl!!!!! 😂 I am the SAME way people cut me off all the time to say "it's okay I understand, you shouldnt have to explain yourself!" (In a nice way) but personally I'm just so used to being misunderstood especially as a child, that I just can't help it! 😅 I probably shouldn't care but I'm a really nice and super non-judgmental person which I take a lot of pride in and I don't want to be interpreted as anything different 😭 which I'm realizing now that this doesn't apply to the lash story.. I'm a talker 🥴
Wonderful conversation!! It's always a treat to learn about place-based spirits and folk customs and practices. Also appreciate hearing defining moments in someone's spiritual journey. So impressed Ella that you advocated for the look of your book with your publisher. You are a role model for other authors.
I'm a professional Astrologer with 24 years experience. If you will indulge me, I will explain a bit. Sorry for the length. Her "pentagram" isn't quite exact, but the pattern is interesting. There is no recognized pattern for that, or interpretation, that I am aware of. The aspects being formed are that of minor aspects, called a Quincunx or Inconjunct. It is an aspect of 150°. Because this is a minor aspect, the influence is hardly worth mentioning, but the Qincunx is the one minor aspect that is most often looked at, and considered the more influential or significant of the minor aspects. The influence is subtle. In her case, they may be worth looking into because there are so many, but it looks as if her Ascendant and possibly her MC are part of the over all pattern. Significant, but less so than regular aspects from planet to planet. The quincunx is a neutral aspect. It has both soft and hard influences. Some keywords are reconciliation, adjustment, and longing or desire, mystery, imbalance, and a few more. What happens with the quincunx is that the energies of the two planets/points involved are in conflict, and the person seems unable to blend the two or reconcile the two. For example, a person with the Moon (emotions) and Mercury (mind, communication) in quincunx may find it difficult to express their emotions. They may try to overthink and rationalize their emotions, creating a suppression of said emotions. The challenge is to reconcile this by finding equilibrium. In this way, the quincunx is like the opposition, but there is an understanding or knowing that the two cannot be reconciled. So, the person may adjust by keeping the two separate, e.g. by just feeling and allowing the emotion to run its course, then reflecting/thinking on it later. That is probably not the best example, but hopefully it makes sense. In an opposition, the two planets involved are hot or cold, on or off. One is active while the other is dormant. The challenge of the opposition is to find the balance between the two extremes. With the quincunx, there is a knowing that their can be no "balance", so an adjustment is needed. Hopefully, over time, the adjustment works, but with the quincunx it is possible tht it may be an ongoing problem throughout life. Again, however, this is a minor aspect, so whatever the issue may be, it will certainly be more internal, and the influence is so subtle it may not even be noticed, or present that much of an issue. In my experience, the quincunx is more often than not a nothing burger. Hope that helps. I might be willing to do a birthchart reading if interested.
Fantastic thank you to both of you 🖤 Ella’s book is truly beautiful 😍 sumptuous to my eyes. I’ve been a practitioner for decades but still enjoyed the book immensely. Wow Ella what an amazing symbol to have on your chart
Great video Olivia. These are pretty much bang on my tried & true methods too. Looking back, none of it was ever really pre planned either, it's just sort of evolved that way and worked well. So yeah, can 💯 percent vouch for these methods too 😊👍🏻
HOW did I end up commenting here for Olivia's new vid?? Urgh, hormones 🫠🤣. Re THIS video 😂 - I'm so chuffed you guys made this! My dad was German (I'm Scottish) and I've really wanted to dig into German folk magick for a while now, so this is great. Thanks 😊
@@AGoddamnedHarpyhahaha I was wondering when I read your comment!! 😆 And thank you; I'm glad you enjoyed the conversation! ❤️ I loved Olivia's video too 😂😂
What an incredible book! It contains a lot of info, but is so well laid out and complimented with an abundance of beautiful artwork. A great reference in easily digestible and fun to read little sections. Literally my favorite craft book. New practitioners are so lucky to have a tool like this to get them started. Plus it’s still so useful for me at an intermediate level. I just love how easy it is to use and read. Like watching your TH-cam only better. Thank you, Ella!
Thank you Ivy, Ella was a amazing guest! She has such a beautiful soul loved hearing her experiences with nature . Ivy congratulations on your wedding, saying it after the fact so it’s safe! 😂 amazing show thank you
Hi, the word "diaspora" is not from Latin origin, it is actually from Greek and basically means "sow over". Ella's pronunciation is correct in Greek (and possibly the original pronunciation of the word too), but Ivy's is the correct pronunciation in English. Languages can be quite confusing sometimes.
Whatt!!! Had no idea you were in Washington aside from your content I feel super connected to u because your personality is so relatable! I'm in Clark county lol 🌲 that's awesome!!!🖤❤🖤🍄💕

@@sandrahines3125 oh haha!! I had my nails done for the wedding and they were a super sparkly emerald green. Then I filed them down and painted them black so they're just kind of leftover nails now 😂

I love that she saved the datura plant. Btw, the word for the cold period some seeds, bulbs, plants require to germinate or bloom is vernalization.😊
Henbane!!! I love her! I grew her on my balcony last year. Still have her seeds and planning to grow her again next year.
Since I am watching this in January I would like to let Ella know that I hope she had a very happy BELATED birthday this past year. ❤

I grow Belladonna, Datura, Henbane and Mandrake. What course is this?
Ahem... "She's like fifty, she wouldn't know how to do that" made me sad to hear such devaluation and dismissal of another sacred sister.

Could be! I think someone else commented another idea as well. If Ella reads this and finds that information, I'll add it to my pinned comment! 😊
