    I was raised by a wonderful African American lady and she taught me lots and lots of proactive magic because my mom was a mean alcoholic and Granny was afraid she would hurt me!! I thank the Universe every day for my Granny!!

    I live in Chattanooga, and we have 2 battlefields near by. One is the 2nd bloodiest battlefield, just after Gettysburg. I love walking the trails at the Chickamauga Battlefield! Hundreds of acres of beautiful woods, protected land. Yes, there were terrible battles there, as Chickamauga means river of blood, which the Cherokee named because of the creek. However, when I walk most trails, I feel so many different things. Not all is sadness. There's a lot of other history there too, like the native families that lived there prior to being driven out. There's this one trail where I can usually feel and picture these Cherokee children laughing and chasing each other through the trees alongside the creek. It's such a happy feeling! They're laughing and running. Then, every time, deer will run through right after. There were homesteads with families that shared love and family. So much history, let's not allow the good to be forever hidden by war's shadow! Now it's peaceful land with deep woods, protecting many animal and tree species.

    Really loved this conversation. Really opened my eyes to the magic in things I'm already doing and how much effect it could be having, and how important it is to really steward the land in a conscious way that connects to the history of the part of the earth you're on.

    This conversation was a joy to watch. I am from the same part of the country as Taren, maybe 2 hours west, so my own workings is more Appalachian granny magic than coastal root working. My magic of place is more Cherokee and Scotch- Irish than Hoodoo and Voodoo. But I still found myself nodding along throughout the whole video. I love these colabs and can’t wait to see who’s next.

    Im German and even the most "secular" people who ever visited concentration camps, all say that the atmosphere felt really heavy and often they had trouble breathing when entering the gas chambers. Most people visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, which is a museum now, in today's Poland. (The borders shifted a lot through WWII.) I've not had the opportunity to go yet, but it's on my bucket list, although im scared because im an empath and feel energies quite quickly. So it'll be a very intense experience when I do.

      My Grandma was Irish and emigrated to England. She had my mum who, in turn, had me and my sisters. A few years ago, I took my mum to Ireland, south past Cork and unwittingly ended up 2 miles outside of a town called Skibbereen. It was the epicentre of the potato famine. Me and my (sceptical) mum, struggled with the energy we could feel in the land around there. No offence to anyone who lives there, but as a sensitive, it was overwhelming.

    • @delfinfynn843
      @delfinfynn843 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’m from Germany too. And I come from a city which was very heavily bombed and then slowly restored. It’s a great place now, but there are still places that struggled to become “nice” much more than others. And those are the places that had more trauma stored. I think the best way to approach those places is to give them time, not force anything, be respectful and give little offerings of effort to restore it to its original beauty, because that place will always remember everything. And those places in the end can be powerful allies. But it takes time, and some take many more decades than others. A good and healthy remembrance culture can go a long way too.

    • @TirzaTheSmilingGoddess
      @TirzaTheSmilingGoddess 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @delfinfynn843 it was here, too. Because of the industry. Our town is just outside of Cologne. We do a lot of education at school and there are many cultural and political events here to remember. Artists have done a lot, too. I've also researched into the local witchhunts in medieval times, of which there wasn't much locally, but there's a modern statue of a cauldron in the countryside where it happened, so people are facing the past and trying to heal it. It's helping a lot to restore the piece of the land.

    • @TirzaTheSmilingGoddess
      @TirzaTheSmilingGoddess 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @snakebear4183 I can imagine that it must have been a difficult experience. I was in that area on holiday with my family as a child, but then, being only 7 or 8, I was oblivious of those things. I only learned about the famine later at school. Remembrance and empathy go a long way to restore better energies, but it's a slow process, for sure. I've seen a post on FB of a statue honouring a Native American tribe who sent money to Ireland when they heard about the famine, even though they didn't have much themselves. It really touched me, especially when you think about what happened to the First Nation peoples at the hand of the whites. I was so loved when I read that, the love and compassion touched me deeply.

    Thank you for this interview.
    The part about actually connecting with the land and dirt being something that takes immense time and care to cultivate rings so true to my journey. Hearing someone else who’s been in the craft for much longer confirm that it takes effort and time to really feel connected to the land made me feel so much more at peace with the seemingly slow pace I’m making. Also lovely to hear about other witchy stories.

    I have thought about some of these topics so so much this year. Last spring I moved from Kansas City to Wisconsin and I immediately noticed the difference in house spirits. I think migration patterns left more than just descents.

      Welcome to Wisco! I grew up here, but was born in Washington state. Having visited since then, as well as places like Colorado and Texas, I absolutely agree with you. Immigration patterns brought so many different energies to the places people have settled. I'm doing some family tree work rn, and stumbled on so much Nordic presence here IMO from the large amount of Norwegian Immigration to this area. 🙂 My next step is to dig further and study closer the native tribes, to give them the respect they deserve.

    It was funny to me, that the dirt in the corners was mentioned, because in German folk practice it’s most important to keep the corners clean, because it is where the house spirits live. Always great to hear other perspectives of similar concepts in the end.

    This is so great! I had the honor of meeting Taren at Mystic South last summer and I attended her presentation on graveyard dirt. I have several of her books on my wish list but I went ahead and purchased this one because I had just done my first dirt working. It was a really long and hard day. I really love and respect both of you, and I learn so much from you two! Y'all also make me laugh and smile. Thanks for the rescue of my mind tonight. Great, another witchy creator to follow :). Your taste for guest is awesome as always :)
    I really waited for dirt magic content because it's so underated! Definitely source of inspiration (I live in the house build in 1830's, by crossroads with church, graveyard and park within 50m around, so a lot dirt to use ^^)
    Also appreciate perspective on "traumatized" soil, as I live in Poland - battlefield of Europe for ages, recent scars after WW2 and post-war soviet occupation (and I mean RECENT - when communist system was abolished here, in 1989 I was 1yo. We have millenials traumatized by soviet system, ffs. And as for WW2 - my dad was also 1yo when it started), and now hot war going on our doorstep, in Ukraine. Blood never have time to dry here before it is spilled again...

    Loved the video and Taren S'. books are great. This one is on my wish list. I love both you and Taren. However, the rant over New Orleans v.s. Salem bothers me. Why do we have to say one is better over the other. Why can we not acknowledge that both support witches in different ways? Dont we want to support all witches? Have either of you been to Salem? It's comparing apples and oranges. Salem has changed and is really more about modern witches and acceptance and supporting small businesses while honoring the past history. Salem is full of maritime history, among other things. Please keep an open mind.

    It's a bit funny that you said that it's not like a recipe, but I have gotten into cooking more recently and it kind of is. When cooking, it is best to use the recipe as a guideline and look at it like this is how this person made this food. However, you will find that you don't have the same produce in season or the same herbs or spices, but you do have something else that may work for what you are looking for. It's kind of the same with personal practice. If you follow the guidelines and understand the correspondences and what is available, you might be able to find what works for you. In fact, as it is personalized for you and where you are practicing, what you have likely works better for you than if you did blindly follow someone else's recipe.
