      From the credits there was even a motion capture performer for the robot as well.

      What special effects? This was a real robot made by Adam Savage.
      Yeah I’m kidding. You’re right though.

    This scene was amazeballs. After I saw it though, I wondered why there aren't more robots in the Expanse, besides for drones. Seems like we have more robots today than they do 200 years in the future.

      The book writers have stated that there are tons of robots/very advanced AI in The Expanse, they just don't look like C3PO.

    One of my favourite action scenes of the entire series to date. That robot is perfect, a stunning example of CGI done right.

      it's honestly one of my favorite robot designs, it feels grounded and not over the top like something we could achieve with our current technology.

      Oh yeah. That thing had real heft. Like it was a real thing. Its something you could concievably build now, if you had the skills. So realism 10/10. The only thing that didn't completely sell me was that a smack to the head from that thing should have done more than give holden a bit of a bruise and concussion.

      According to Ty and That Guy, the budget has actually remained fairly consistent throughout all 5 seasons. I agree that the effects keep getting better with each season though.

    Aren't the belters supposed to be taller than normal humans?

    • @UnclePengy
      @UnclePengy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Supposed to be, and they originally tried to do that with CG in the first few episodes but it wasn't economically feasible to keep doing it, so they differentiated the belters with tats, accents and a creole language.

    This scene, while glorious, broke the entire plot. A robot like that would not be a singular example. It nuked the entire franchise for me. Honestly, it's kinda like that new star wars scene where they used the ftl drive as a missile. Though the scene from star wars didn't just destroy star wars, it destroyed every franchise with ftl that didn't explicitly explain why ftl missiles aren't a thing.

    • @NovelPhoinix

      The robot is only a reprogrammed maintenance drone nothing special, so i dont see a problem with it.
      They probably could have done a few shots of them just repairing in the background to set up that they exist but i dont really care that much about it.
      But i do agree about the starwars part of your comment!

    • @Innomen
      @Innomen 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NovelPhoinixYou're missing the point. I don't care if it's a toaster, the question is where are all the other weaponized toasters. It's like why do we keep sending people down in onesies in star trek and not drones? They could literally just beam down tricorders and beam them back up. "A Sentinel for every man, woman, and child in Zion. That sounds *exactly* like the thinking of a machine to me." ~Morpheus
      Mars has suits that could walk on their own. Never showing anything like automated combat left room for some techwoo explanation, some kind of AI ban or whatever, but that robot... Just ends the debate.

      @@Innomenlol man, you took the words from my mind! Thought the same. The Expanse is prestigious and acclaimed for the realistic portraial of the Solar System's colonization, but with one suspension of disbelief, well, two actually. The first one is obviously the plot-moving lovecraftian/cosmic horror unimaginable and impossible to grasp technology of the type 3 Kardashev titans and their foes. The other is the absence of AI. Not only in space and hazardous operations, but everywhere. On Ships, on military operations, on Inners' jobs. Everywhere. We think then that some Dune-level shit happened and AI was stalled at best, or the suspension of disbelief allows us to imagine a future where a humane colozation happen.
      But then this. A marvelous scene with 10/10 CGI that hooks us. But what about this technology? Why the belters risk so much their lives just like people dying in factories today if there are robots in this universe!!

      Unfortunately, the things are threading now for an automated future, so likely in our timeline there will be no belters :(
      Hope our timeline isn't one of an AI extinction
