It's miserably cold in NC so I'm geeking out so hard on these seminar videos. Thanks for putting these on. Mike really does give such informative talks and makes it very entertaining.
Shame you left the north Alantic I could use some help with fishing up here in the north. Running out of the thames river for tuna and mahi mahi this coming season. Your seminars are very informative thx. High Anxiety 2.
Totally agree with the limits he suggests. I live in the Fl Keys and its getting overfished. People come from up north by the thousands, specially holiday weekends.
The commercial guys fishing the otherside of the Gulfstream are a big part of the problem..taking hundreds of tons. Just reduce the limit...not increase the size.
Always a good seminar! Just a question about those reels? Maxel makes a OMS 10 and 16 would you use either one of them to replace the Daiwa high speed that has been discontinued. I have one of those 50's and cant find any left around the country. So I was seeing a lot about those Maxels OMS10 and OMS16? Thank you in advance! :)
As always, X-O-LENT spresentation, MG. And I agree with you re: size and # limits!! My feelings are 20-24" and 3-4 per person/12-15 boat limit. Over 25-30lbs... limit 2 per person/5-6 per boat.
They should up the length to that 27 to 28 inch range and lower the amount to 8 per person from 10 if you and a friend go out and catch 15 mahi that's a fine day
What was your 20lbs set up? Reel/rod/line. I want to use it for troll/kite. Could i use the same rod to deep drop (edge) or deep deep drop(wall) pending different reels?
Thank you for the great videos. My dad and I are going off shore fishing for the first time tomorrow - we spent about 3 months outfitting our boat inshore and tomorrow hoping to land fish of our lifetime - That would be anything more than 5 pounds! If we hook up it will be credit to you.

@@FloridaSportFishing I can eat my weight in Maki Mahi. It just that the people in West Africa don't. It's not even in the market. I am really enjoying your program.
I would smack someone hitting a fish on the floor of my boat with a bat. lol I don't want the fiberglass gelcoat damaged! That said, I have no problem if someone else choose to do so on THEIR own boat. It just isn't for me. Also, I never get damaged meat from them being in the box. Seems to me hitting them with a bat would cause much more damage to the meat. :)
What do you thing the regulations on dolphin be? I’d probably make it 5 fish at 25 in due to the fact that they mature so fast and they are doing so well numbers wise. I do agree that 10 fish is a bit high but the size limit is fine how it is but it would be nice to see a few bigger dolphin to be a more common
Hello. When trolling for mahi with a spinning rod 50lb braid and 30lb fluorocarbon leader using rigged ballyhoo with a skirt and a deep diving lure do I have to use any weight/lead aswell ? If so how much ? Trying to catch my FIRST mahi.
no, you do not need any weight with either of those. look for large patches of weeds, birds hovering on top of the weeds, etc. dont troll through the weeds, just along side. good luck.
No, but they certainly do work, trolled way back in the shotgun position. Set it and forget it until reel starts screaming. Tuna love them. - Capt Mike
I really must disagree with the concept of a fish being smart, I opened up a trouts skull to show my niece it’s brain and it was the size of a small pea. I would really say that there are fish with various degrees of environmental fears.
Can’t say enough about what I learned from this seminar. Millions of thanks

What a great presenter and a great presentation!
Thank you for calling out the regulations Mike.
What a great video. Your a great Captain and very knowledgeable. Thank you.
I have learned a lot about one of my favorite species... Looking forward to getting some Dolphin on the east coast of South Africa this summer...
The countryside is the perfect place for harvesting.

Learnt a lot today thanks for the seminar. What line tension do you set the rod at when fishing for big mahi mahi?
Alabama
7-8 miles offshore 65’ deep water.
South Florida
7-8 miles offshore 1,000’ deep
It must be nice.
Shootttt here in Nc you gotta go 30+ miles depending on the area
Off SC, it's like 50. Brutal.
The ocean floor drops so fast on the east coast. Here in Tampa we have to go way out to get deep.
This Guy here can put Joel Olsteen out of Business if he ever started Preaching.

How'd it go?
Hey Mike. Where can we find up to date chlorophyll charts for the Atlantic side of the Gulf Stream?
Flat seas rule
Don’t blame Carlos
Yes sir i commend you i agree with what u said min length n size to protect them tasty fish i luv them need to protect them
What weight of fluoro leader are you putting on the end of the mono? Is it required when using pre-rigged ballyhoo?
No, you can run your main line to small 75. lb Diamond Fishing ball bearing snap swivel and attach pre rigged ballyhoo there. - Capt Mike
In West Africa these fish are not eaten. The locals think there is a Juju going on with the color.

Hey mike! Great video. Quick question, why would hiting a mahi with a billy bat be cruel? If I get a larger mahi thats normally what I do.
I dont know, just sounds and looks like overkill to me. may be the right thing to do though. - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing the reason I do it is so they don’t beat themselves up in the box and damage the meat.

Nice fiberglass fish, but they look much better alive! On the deck, granted, but alive.

Agreed, 5 fish at 25". Sounds good to me. - Capt Mike
My boat has a self imposed limit of 15 total no matter how many people and if you have to measure it, it's too small!
Could you use live pinfish for dolphin
Yes
What size X-Rap do you use or recommend?
I like the X-Rap Magnum 30. - Capt Mike
Thanks Capt Mike! Great seminar

Ty !! I thought maybe since I see the lure bouncing on top of the water something was not going right. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.
If you're deep lure is bouncing, something is wrong. It's probably twisted up. Make sure the line isn't wrapped around a hook and the line is straight
There is a secret...but it's a secret
Always keep 1 hooked they follow the leader
I second that, we do this with every type of fish so far.
how many times does he say dolphin...
30 inch min agree
They constantly run the Joe Biden commercial where they subtitle what he should say and can’t. WTF that’s the best take they can get out of this guy.
sargasm weed? i wonder what freud would say!
Excellent, but your giving away my x-rap secret. Next thing you'll be putting procure on it.
lol. Thanks for watching. - Capt Mike
Have you had any success trolling a cedar plug in Florida?
No, but they certainly do work, trolled way back in the shotgun position. Set it and forget it until reel starts screaming. Tuna love them. - Capt Mike

What is his accent?

Holy shit you can keep this fish up to 10? Can you catch this fish from inshore?
No they are pelagic
Lie line dolphin
