  • This video was made in the beautiful city of San Isidro de El General, Pérez
Zeledón, Costa Rica, with a lot of love for everyone. Students of Spanish as a second language can practice easy Spanish vocabulary related to the Costa Rican Independence Day parade.
This year, Costa Rica celebrates 202 years of Independence.
Costa Rica became independent from Spain in 1821.
In Costa Rica, parades do not have military representation, since the army was abolished on December 1, 1948. The parades are made up of students from schools, colleges, universities and some other representatives of the
communities. In this video, you will get to meet some of them since I will be conducting interviews. At the same time you can sharpen your Spanish listening comprehension!
All “Ticos”, (the nick-name of all Costa Ricans), celebrate it with great joy and enthusiasm.
This video is an example of how we celebrate Independence, who are the
participants in the parades, Costa Rica folk music and the
beautiful typical costumes that represent our true “Tico” culture.
    Enjoy it!
