    Think of it as a Corvette that can carry a HUGE amount of stuff, then it makes perfect sense. 🙂

    • @helder6175
      @helder6175 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Not so sure about the huge amount of stuff part. With most Corvette owners, most won't really push the car too hard because of speed traps and heavy traffic in many places. The same goes for most Land/Range Rover owners who never really use their vehicles off-road. They are "mall runners". The only thing people "carry" in them really is a credit card. Those vehicles are "more show than go" as just status symbols. For example, how many bicycle racks or tow hitches do you see on the back of them? Exactly.
      I have a 15-year-old Nissan Pathfinder that I use off-road sometimes, and sometimes I place as many as four bicycles at the back of it connected to the tow hitch. The only thing I haven't connected to it yet is a big speed boat not because my truck can't handle it but more like I can't afford it. Any way, much cheaper to rent a Scarab for a day or two than to own one.

What better way to show off your wealth without drawing too much attention to yourself. Not everyone wants to be in a big Porsche or Mercedes. Then there is the Porsche Macan GTS, smaller than the Jeep although still four door, itdoes the 0-60 like the Defender only it drives better. And there is the Bowler Nemesis which I suppose is more race car than SUV really.

    I like the softer Land Rover defenders, particularly when it comes to wheels, it suits a high tyre wall steel wheel better than big skinny alloys. no problem with the V8 but would have to go for entry engine to get my choice of wheels.

    • @27qwljrob2
      @27qwljrob2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed this, too. I tried seeing if I could fit 19" wheels on the V8, but that's not even an option. I suspect it has larger brake discs, limiting how small you can go on wheel size. The smallest I could find for it are 20" wheels.

    Modern three door vehicles aren't meant to be a family haulers. The rear seats in this are more for 'emergencies' and should be considered part of the luggage compartment. Whether that price is appropriate for a glorified two seater is another question, but Land Rover obviously thinks there is a market.

  • @jeromep3182
    @jeromep3182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yeah but the point of the V8 defender is to bring back the heritage of the brand Land Rover has offered their customers a V8 model it’s nostalgic. Unlike Ford with the bronco which offered a V8 you can’t get that anymore. To me it’s about having the open to go all out. The sound that in itself is enough. V8 are going away it’s nice to have the option.

    My opinion: I think we will be seeing a lot more of these typenof cars going to market. My reasoning is as follows:
    Electric cars are awesome, no doubt about it, however, the sound, mechanics and cogs working together in a ICE car, well, a electric car cannot do that.
    As ICE cars are on its way out in the not so far future, I think manufacturers are going out with a bang with their V8 and other big engines. Cars are meant to put a smile on your face even if you go to the shop. If a Daewoo Matiz does that for you, great, if a V8 does it for you, great.
    I think lets get the last of the "crazy" no sense cars and have fun with them while we can and before it ends.

    As the former owner of a 1971 Series IIA 88" I remember when a Land Rover was a Land Rover. This 90" simply is not. Too bad Rover Company shuttered years ago and all that remains is the badging. If I wanted a Range Rover, I'd probably look at something by another company. Sure, this 90 looks cool(ish), but if you want aesthetics rather than a real Land Rover, knock yourself out. For me, I'd rather have my Series Rover back than get something that raises my blood pressure every time I even think about parking lot dings and road tar.
    Thanks for a really fantastic review! Very well done. I like the honest criticism PLUS the infectious appreciation of the V8 90" - it is a looker. Cheers!

Yeah its not as ‘cushy’ as my excellent L405 3:0 TD6 (BTW 50k miles / flawless / brilliant / will not sell it until it lets me down) … but … the glorious / silliness of the engine, and, I’m being respectful of running-it-in! The last V8 I had was ~8 years ago on a Cayenne Turbo (a good vehicle / but not great) … this vehicle (if its as reliable as my RR or the Cayenne) .. will be ‘great’ … perfect combination of dogs in back practicality / ruggedness but comfortable on / and mild-off road experience (mine will NEVER go to Moab, although it could [according to TH-cam people] but with different [non 22’’] wheels). It’s way more offroad capable than I will ever need it to be. As I described it to a friend the other day …. A grown-up, road trip worthy, lux, silly, Jeep Rubicon on V8 steroids. Love it!

    Everything about this SUV is just top notch other than the fact that it is a 2-row SUV! Cz, it's purely a two seater, Off Road Monster with ultimate power under the bonnet to tackle not just the difficulty in off road but also to crunch the longer distances when you move from one state to another! I see a lot of European and American People does that, when they decide to go for a round trip or a vacation. Even for a 5 people situation, we can go with 110 as it has got all the boxes ticked right from practical space for passengers and their luggage and off road utilities. So, as for me it's the POV from which people see it. Cz, I won't buy a 90 V8 for 5 people but only for me and a friend or a partner not just for an adventurous trip but also for an adventurous ride as well. So, in many aspects it makes perfect sense. Cz, I won't even consider clogging 3 people in the back of a 90 unless it is an emergency or a very short ride.
