When you think back on it, Joker is the only one who knows that Akechi will disappear if reality is reverted, so Akechi could also be telling Maruki to shut up to hide that fact from the rest of the team so they don't get distracted by it.
@@colonelslanders3955 Actually, it's even better than that. Akechi is hiding it from the others because he knows they'll hesitate if they find out. He also thinks it's asinine that he was brought back to life, just because it would be to help Akira (Joker) get closure and help develop a relationship. Akechi says in one scene that being brought back to simply help make someone else feel better is bullshit and give his life no meaning.
@@Tedward506 Door-kun and Akechi are similair on that "sacrificing yourself" thing but Akechi does it for selfish reasons: he doesnt want ANYBODY to have control over him and as Marukis "creation" he rejects this reality fullforce. Tho he truely trusts Joker and does care about him, in his own ways. (just look at the Crown Nav comment when Joker has rage :"D )
I just have this image of that actually happening. Like 4 people fight, Maruki pleads to them and while they make their speech Akechi is just flipping them off.

Brandon Withnell That's what makes it so disturbing. Even more disturbing than Persona 3's bad ending where they just accept death. In this ending it's all happy and fun times but when you're the player and sit back and think about the choice you made you can't get over the fact that you've subjected your friends and family to basically a lie that resembles honesty. It's kinda creepy just how much the truth can be deception in disguise.
@@brandonwithnell612 It's a horrible end when you remember what the protagonists of Persona 3 and Persona 4 fought for, and how taking Maruki's deal just invalidates all of it. Humanity is doomed to stagnate forever. With everyone's wishes coming true as lies become reality, there is no longer any room for personal growth from accepting death and making the best of your life, or any reason for humanity to reach out to the truth, rendering Makoto Yuki's death, and all of Yu's adventures in the TV World completely meaningless. You also technically murder Sumire by letting Maruki delete her personality and override it with Kasumi's, so yeah.
akang kosim True ending Maruki and Joker confirm he’s been dead, he’s only here cuz Phantom Thieves wanted to save him (changed reality by Maruki). If you get the true ending, plus max Akechis confidant, you get a bonus scene where he appears as Joker leaves. (Though you can’t see his face). 🤷♂️
@@dredgenleo9614 But if he is a result of Joker's desire to see him back, wouldn't have he disappear the moment Joker rejected Maruki's reality. Akechi continues to exist even after MC rejects said reality.
In another video i saw him in a snowman costume and i wheezed at him because when he says "i dont care what i look like" while looking like an idiot in the team
Ann's response is the most interesting. She shows the most hesitation in her response, because it's not about her. No matter how strong she becomes, she can never undo what happened to Shiho. Hence the origin of her Phantom Thief outfit. She can't save everyone, so she wants to punish those who wronged them.
Then why not take Maruki on his offer? He could make a world where the pain never happened, and the tormentors were never tormentors. The world can only be saved by a miracle as mighty as the one Maruki gave, so why not take it?
"I don't need another world forced upon me" I feel a seething rage in that sentence. Yusuke has been forced to be well-behaved by Madarame for his entire life, never knew what the outside world is like, and now he is exploring it. His daily habit is, you guess it, observing people in the underground walkway. While having a better mentor would make his life ideal, what he truly desires is to see the world in its purest form. Making a reality for him would be just like what Madarame had done to him, where he is forced to live under someone's finger.
@@goddessyamato5238 I want to make one of those dumbass “Cope” “L” remarks but I at least have enough class to say I want to do them as my comment instead. I have no idea what I’m saying
Is it under someone else's finger? Maruki doesn't see himself as a king, and truly wants the best for everyone. If he didn't, the fight would never have started. Maruke could have just made it so that Yuske was never taken in by Madarame, or so that Madarame never let his mother die. There are so many ways in which these problems could be easily alleviated, so why fight that?

@@talonzilla Sometimes I imagine a scenario where hes alive like how MOrgana came back as a cognition in reality. As everyone is cheering the Phantom thieves, Goro Akechi comes back in reality, runs up the stairs and shoots the god of control in the face and helps the party.
I believe there can be one of two reasons for this: One, Maruki messes with Akechi’s cognition while reality was distorted to make him forget what happened, giving the impression he had died. Two, Akechi was pretending to know he would disappear, secretly knowing he wouldn’t. Akechi does like to pretend and is incredibly skilled at doing so.
@@ndDavilos Big theme of the 3rd semester was Akechi being his real self. I honestly doubt he had a reason to lie at that point. Also i don't think Maruki was malicious enough to do that and if he did he would have told us afterwards. Maruki was genuinely a what you see is what you get kind of dude
It's probably Maruki messing with Akechis cognition, reasons: - Unlike the other dead characters (Okumura and Wakaba) Akechi doesn't dissappear when Joker realizes that he is in a fake reality. - Similarly Akechi retains his "unique" personality unlike Wakaba, Okumura, and Madarame who all become the ideal versions the Phantom Thieves imagine them to be (for reference refer to the fake reality ending to see Jokers cognition of Akechis personality.) - Akechi appeared 5 days before any of the other reality bending changes and before Joker has his dream in the school. - I can see Maruki giving Akechi a gap in cognition if he thought it was for his own good - seeing as unlike the other Phantom Thieves Maruki did not have a chance to ever confront Akechi personally and does not have a grasp on what his wish actually is. Ofcourse this is a story between a thief and a detective - and one of it's tropes is leaving the viewer wondering whether characters are actually alive or not (Sherlock and Moriarty). So in the end if you hate Akechi you can write him off as dead, but if you love him there are plenty of ways he could have survived - (his persona is Loki after all...)
_Madara? Really? We gonna act like people like Maruki's girlfriend, who would much rather a world without their pain, exsist? The PT's are hypocrites. Changing a person's heart is basically a mini Maruki every time they do it. So everyone is Madera then._
@@sugoiboyxl8345 The PT's are nowhere near like Maruki. Yes they share the same similarities as changing one's cognition, but the end results are vastly different. Maruki wants to wash away the pain forever and create a world where only happiness and success exist. The PT's change the hearts of ruthless criminals who caused a great deal of pain and suffering to those who have been affected, but pain is still present before and after the change of heart. If the PT's were like Maruki at all, they would have gladly accepted his world, but they know that pain and suffering is needed to grow and develop even if life sucks at times.
@@shade3385 Hell, their targets are all people who would not change or admit to their crimes otherwise (or in the case of Futaba or Maruki, are horribly misguided at best or suicidal at worst and desperately need an intervention). Maruki has no such limitation and is more than willing to interfere in people's lives, even when they don't need his help. The only one who needed his help at some point was Sumire and even then, her issues were only solved by her working to overcome them after she was forced to face reality (although it should be noted that if Maruki didnt alter her cognition, she would have probably attempted to kill herself). He went from someone who helped people through their issues and used his power as a last resort to a moral busybody who is happy to change people's entire lives on a whim because he feels they would be happier that way. Kinda like a system of government that puts people in positions since they think that person would do better there, regardless of whether or not they can actually perform in those roles.
Lord Typh Maruki didn’t use his power as a last resort when it came to therapy. He used it as the initial solution. Without consent, and only granting their unconscious desire.
Maruki is fascinating, but ultimately his issues stem from his narrow focus. He’s a good man, given a power that no single being should ever have the responsibility of caring for. His reality was imperfect, we saw the distortions and contradictions in the loading screens and between days, and ultimately that’s because a single individual can’t be trusted to guide the whole of humanity. A good example of this is Yusuke’s friend, the one that becomes an archer in Maruki’s new world instead of an artist. Maruki decided for him that his sun-par talent wouldn’t bring him happiness, and forcibly changed his life path despite his love for art. That is a hell of a decision to make, and it’s because Maruki cannot abide by any sort of pain, despite a person’s own wishes. And he makes some very dark choices. For example, Kasumi’s fake reality ending. She stays as Kasumi, abandoning her sumire identity and forever becoming a strange copy of her sister. I’ve seen the question going around as to why Maruki doesn’t simply revive Kasumi, and thus leaving the sisters together. The reason behind that is Sumire’s inferiority complex. Maruki decided that a life with Kasumi still alive would cause Sumire too much pain, and thus kept the reality in which her older sister was dead. Maruki prioritizes happiness OVER life. In his eyes, one person being dead and the other being satisfied is ideal when compared to both being alive but one in distress. And here’s the kicker, it’s possible Sumire could have struggled through her problems. She might have come to terms with herself, regardless of how painful it would have been to be in the shadow of her sister. But in Maruki’s eyes, struggle is just another form of pain. He will not risk pain of any kind, because of his own trauma. This is, to put it frankly, insanity. He hides it pretty well, but he is a palace ruler, and his view of the world is in fact distorted. Someone like him can not be given the power to bend humanity to his will, because his own biases are incredibly skewed by his own distorted cognition. He is a dictator. He forces people to abide by the reality he determines, and there can be no dissent. But he’s a good man, and someone who earnestly wants to help the world. Atlas didn’t make a singularly good character who wants to help the world and has no issues. They made a broken man who is riddled with flaws and trauma, and the game is IMMENSELY superior because of that decision.
Ugh, after finishing the game every time I go back to when Sumire was “Kasumi”, all I could think of what Yusuke said that bcame a meme: “That was truly cringeworthy.” Not because I didn’t like it, but because she was in denial and masquerading as a dead person. The reason/trauma behind it hurts, but it didn’t hurt as much as seeing Sumire putting on that false smile, and running from the truth. It’s like on the inside, Sumire is dying. Picking that fake ending meant you killed Sumire and this walking husk of a dead person remained.
@@mystery8820 It's essentially how Maruki's reality works. He only realize the wishes of the people that are in line with his ideas, the rest will gets brainwashed. This is represented in his palace through the psychology test and the weird purple room. This is essentially not very different from Yaldabaoth plan to nullify everyone that he doesn't like in the vanilla game.
Hella well written thought process here. We think struggle can eventually lead to triumph. Maruki showed in each of his questions in the palace that struggle was not an option and he forced that
Maruki: "Haru! I can give you screen time! You don't have to be a meme any more to the Persona fanbase! You can be more than just floof and memes!" Haru: "I... I already have the screen time I need with Royal! I'm fine with it, forehead, memes, and all!"
It is funny that akechi just yells at maruki but his anger is honestly really sad if you think about it akechi’s whole existence in this reality is to benefit jokers happiness akechi is a physical example of why maruki’s “utopia” doesn’t work because taking away the choice he made is a contradiction to maruki’s preaching hence why he called it high and mighty bullshit.
Maruki is the sort of person who stops a lecture if one student doesn't get it. He would gladly try and fix all of their problems, 1 by one. The only problem here with the utopia is that it forces people to live in a way that makes them happy. If you were told you could live a truly happy life by following an instruction manual, wouldn't you take it?
@@plaidhatter1674 If that manual would mess with my memories and would stop people from growing out of themselves, then I wouldn't take it. When I played this game I also was conflicted on which ending would be the better one, but after hearing everything the Phantomthieves had to say about this, I just couldn't do it
@@hue_tjark yes, finished the game first time yesterday, it’s so good how this teaches you I mean if we actually think about it, if we’d have thought about a world where everyone is happy before playing royal, of course everyone would say they’d want it, but if you actually experience that world then you’ll see how unsettling it is (if it’s distorted as maruki s one which probably must be to make EVERYONE happy and bring the deads alive) and how the pain of the life still has a great role in the development of a person, sumire is a great example of that I kinda get maruki tho and am so sad for him cuz he actually would give us that world he’s genuinely kind lol not corrupted, and god I love throw away your mask
Something I’ve found in my life is that although I’ve gone through some really awful situations, I’ve come out of those with positive outcomes too. My best friend helped me out through some really truly awful abuse by another person I thought was my friend. This goes for people I know, too. My mother had to move overseas to make enough money for our family because wages close to home just wouldn’t cut it. At the time, it was extremely stressful, and we had a lot of really nasty arguments. Although we’ve had to live apart, and it’s tough not being able to see each other, my mom has had the benefit of being able to travel and honestly our relationship has improved as well. If you took a world where none of the bad things ever happened or any of the risks, then yes, it does spare you the pain and regrets you suffered in life. But that means you don’t get any of the growth or the benefits, either. It’s only living half a life. It’s a shame that Maruki’s approach has to be so all-or-nothing: his power could be truly beneficial to heal the hearts of people who have been truly, horribly damaged. But the sad irony of it is that he wouldn’t have that power at all in the first place if it wasn’t for his insane level of idealism, hence why his Persona is Azathoth, the Blind God. I could hope that maybe after his change of heart, he could maybe find the internal balance and peace to only use his power where it is truly needed, and with the full knowledge and consent of the people he does it to. Maybe only temporarily, to see if it’s something they actually, truly want or if they can turn things around like Sumire did. Rumi, his girlfriend was a tragic case-I think that what he was able to do for her was a miracle and a good thing, it objectively made her life better, but he took that singular miracle and started to become incredibly warped in his thinking. It seems like the main difference between him and the Phantom Thieves is that he lacked anyone else around him to rein in his more extreme thoughts. Kind of like Akechi in that way too, with both having the natural ability to influence people’s hearts.
Because Futaba wasn't given one, I decided to make on for her: Futaba-- Maruki: Sakura-san! You always wanted a complete family, didn't you? Living with your mother again must be a dream come true! You can keep living that dream! Futaba: I'm past that! I can't ask for a better family than the one I'm with now!
I think Futaba saying that would be lying to herself. Futaba obviously desires the family she had in Maruki's reality. Her speech should to accept the pain of true reality like the rest of them.
@@blueboxkirby1283 My line of thinking for my makeshift Futaba's speech comes from her arc, her confidant and snippets in Sojiro's confidant. Yes she will always want to be with Wakaba, as would everyone else in the team to have their desires. Considering that the end of her arc is her trying to accept that her mom is gone (which in turn creates the drive to join the Phantom Thieves to find out who killed her), I felt like the speech I gave her is rather fitting. Of course, that's up to interpretation. The family part I came up with comes from a snippet in Sojiro's confidant. By I think Rank 8, there's evidence that she sees Joker, Morgana and the Phantom Thieves as family. Albeit it was from an emotional outburst towards Sojiro, but that doesn't make it any less true. The family that Futaba is referring to in my speech isn't just Sojiro and Joker, but the rest of the Phantom Thieves, Kana-chan, and any other friends she has made. ... Yes I played the game, I've seen everything in full and it was extremely difficult beating this guy so get the hell off my case with that. There is NO dialogue or straight up confirmation that the person who passes by the window when Joker's on the train is Akechi, does it look an awful lot like him of course and that's my point. But it's impotant to note that as of right now the developers could still very well say that was'nt actually Akechi. I'd like that to not be the case and for him to offically still be alive. But you should be prepared to hear the other answer just incase.
I'm going back over Maruki-related videos for obvious reasons, and yeah: he's still the absolute best. The emotion in all of his pleas is just... Thank you so much, Billy.
“Adachi-san! You don’t need to dredge yourself deeper into despair. You can finally have the life you always wanted.” “Listen here doc! I already learned my lesson long ago. It’s true that real life can be a boring pain in the ass, but if those brats taught me anything is that we all have to face the truth instead of getting all stupid on a delusional dreamland. So no thank you.”
"Dojima-san! For too long you have been burdened by the loss of your wife. Please, won't you think of Nanako's happiness?" "My wife is dead. Nanako's mother is dead. But even so, she lives on in both our hearts. He taught me that and we are still a family!"
Futaba-chan. You and I know what it's like to lose someone dear to us in front of our own eyes. With my help, you'll be able to see her again and you'd be a family again! I've moved on! I don't need my mom for a family. I have my dad and the one you're looking at!
Maruki: "Player's name", I ask of you, are you really okay with how your life in reality was? what if it repeats itself without a way out? Joker: >That's fine >So be it >on second though
@@clarinethro1695 Yeah, and she'd probably say something about not being deceived by a distorted reality again, like she said in her awakening. Because honestly, Futaba is the one who convinced me not to accept Maruki's reality.
I love how the fight ends. When you go back to save Dr. Maruki, you have one final confrontation, but instead of using any Persona's and being in any fancy masks, they both go full-blown fisticuffs, and both are without the masks they once hid behind.
“Takeba-San! Don’t you wish he didn’t have to sacrifice himself? I can make it so he never had to!” “The dead don’t come back- I learned that long ago! I won’t fall into that mindset ever again!”
“Minato-San! You have made the greatest sacrifice ever! In my world, you will have never had to make such a sacrifice in the first place and you will be free with to grow and live with your friends again!” “I don’t care. I have fought against this line of thinking before. My friends lived on without me before, they can do it again. And if it’s my fate to stay trapped forever, then I can make that sacrifice for them.”
people were just as happy in the prison of regression as they were in maruki's actualized world... he just wanted everyone to be happy but in the end, the means of achieving that were the same as Yaldabaoth's: the removal of agency and free will

"Amada-kun, your mother's death was a horrible tragedy, and to lose someone you came to admire so quickly after, with my power, you can have them both back, and that pain can be erased!" "Iori-kun, I know too well the pain of losing someone you've come to love, but it doesn't have to be that way! I can return her to you, you can have the happiness you both deserve!" "Sanada-kun, what happened to your friend was unjust, you should not have to live with such loss! Let me change that horrible night, and save you from such grief!" "Koromaru, you poor thing! Your years of loneliness, the loss of your master, must have been so frightening for you. I can change that, and you can have the happy, safe life you should have had!" I can handle the consequences of my grandfather's actions, including my father's death." Ken: "What's the point if they're just copies made from my memories? I'd rather suffer than live a lie." Junpei: "Y'know, something tells me that Chidori would rather I move on. So, no thanks, asshole!" Akihiko: "Shinji wouldn't want me to imprison myself here just to see him again. I'll take my pain in stride!" Aigis: "Koro-chan has found a new family with us. He wholeheartedly rejects your offer." Fuuka: "I've found acceptance! I don't need to pretend about that!" Aigis: "My past does not define me. I have found purpose of my own, even through the pain of life!" Protagonist: -That's not for you to decide. -Not if they're just given to me. -That's pretty cheap, isn't it?
@Corbin Terry Hanamura-kun! I know how much Konishi-san's death hangs over you, and I can't imagine how much her family misses her, too! I promise you, with my power I can return her to you and her family, and neither of you will have to suffer anymore! Satonaka-san! Please, listen! I know you've felt like you were never good enough for anyone, but that simply isn't true, others just need only see it as well! I promise with my reality all your desires can finally come true! Amagi-san! It must be so painful to feel caged in this life others have decided for you! I promise you, you'll have every chance to escape and follow your own path in this new reality! Teddie-kun, you poor thing! I can't imagine how much it hurt to learn the truth, but you don't need to be ashamed of where you come from! With my power I can promise you a reality you can be a part of! Tatsumi-kun! I know how you feel deep down, but you don't need to fear your differences! It must hurt so much to see so many people not know the real you, but it doesn't have to be that way! Embrace this new reality, and I promise countless people can know and embrace you for who you are instead of the image they've only seen on the stage! Shirogane-san! It must be so difficult, to see all you strive for always seem to be out of reach for such senseless reasons! It doesn't have to be that way, though! I can give you a world where you won't need to earn the acknowledgement you deserve through force, and succeed in your family's name! Adachi-san! Life was never fair to you, was it? And I know how much you regret all that you've done, but now you can have a fresh start with the life you've always wanted! Why would you reject a second chance when it's right in front of you? Narukami-kun! Why should anyone be forced to accept a harsh and painful truth that can drag them into ruin and despair? I can make a new truth with this reality, one where everyone can be happy and no one will ever suffer again! What would it take to make you understand that?
@Shadejak VA Yosuke: That might be true. I loved her. But that's not what we want. You think we'll accept some LIE you've dreamed up for us? No way -- we didn't come all this way for THIS! Chie: It's true that I was jealous of the others, because of that... But I'm sorry Doctor, this isn't right! You can't FORCE happiness on people! It's only BECAUSE I faced the truth that I became as close as I am to my friends! You can't take that from us, and we won't LET you! Yukiko: I'll decide my future for myself! All my life, I felt trapped, but come what may, I won't trade the cage in my mind with a cage YOU built! Kanji: Like hell! If it's ONLY 'cause YOUR sorry ass forced it, I don't want their acceptance! If they can't accept me for me, to hell with them, I've got all I need, with Senpai and the others! Teddie: I know I'm a Shadow... but I'm still me, Teddie! I still have a place I belong! With Nana-chan, and Yosuke, and Sensei, and ALL the people of this world I've come to love! Rise: I am who I am -- Risette, Rise, no one can really know everything. I want to choose it for myself, who knows all of them. Naoto: Your intentions are noble doctor, but the fact remains: You're denying us the CHOICE of accepting the truth! A life spent where you warp everything so our success is a birthright -- it's hardly living at all! I'll never live a falsehood, ever again! (That or "This reality's a living contradiction. If it's perfect as you say, where do I, as a DETECTIVE, fit into a world without crime or mystery?", something to that effect, cause I could see this issue cropping up.) Adachi: Wannabe nice guys like you REALLY piss me off... You must REALLY want to play the hero, if you're resorting to THIS, even with aaall the power you've got. Inaba was ALREADY dull as hell -- you think I'd be happier when the whole WORLD'S become all sunshine and rainbows? Hell no DUMBASS, compared to this, even dealing with those dumb HICKS in the station is more worth my time! Yu: - This isn't the truth. - Life can't be lived this way. - Calm down. "Sophia, all you wanted was to be humanity's companion. To live, laugh, and love as we all do. What better way to do that than by living among us as equals?" "That may be, but living in this world is no different from living in a phone!" "Zenkichi, Owada took everything from you, and not just you. He committed an unforgivable act and walked away from it while the world turned a blind eye, and you felt you had no choice but to do the same. In my world, you need not worry about that anymore." "Yeah, I'm not proud of half the crap I did, but I'm not going to ignore it anymore!"
Investigation Team Maruki: Shirogane-Kun! I know what is like to be looked down for who you are! In my new reality, you won’t have to pretend to be someone else! Naoto: I’m not pretending anymore, I won’t hide my self ever again! Maruki: Teddie-Kun! I know that you fear yourself, I know that you fear to be alone! In my new reality, you can be freed of those fears! Teddie: Teddie’s already free! I have Sensei and lots of friends that won’t let me be hollow! So I won’t let them either! Maruki: kujikawa-San! You fear not knowing who you really are! I can help you, please just believe me! Rise: There is not a ‘real me’, I already learned that, you are blinding everyone else! Maruki: Tatsumi-Kun! It is painful to be mocked for your talents, but in my new reality, you can be free of that pain! Kanji: I’m past that, asshole! You’re the only one living in the past! Maruki: Amagi-San! I know that you fear living like a slave but I can lead you into happiness this way! Yukiko: I was never a slave! I simply didn’t realized, you’re turning everyone else in slaves! Maruki: Satonaka-San! I understand what it feels like to envy others! In my new reality you can have that! Chie: I don’t care being a tomboy anymore! I will protect Yukiko and the rest of my friends with my own strength! Maruki: Hanamura-Kun! I know that you hate living in Inaba, even worse when everyone hates you, in my new reality, I can free you! Yosuke: I don’t care! This boring town is my home now, and I will protect it! Maruki: Narukami-Kun! I now very well the pain you suffered when a loved one is hurt, in my new reality no-one else will have to suffer like this, why don’t you understand it!? Yu: I understand, but I can’t accept your methods!
2:00 I always got the sense Yuske got the most out of the sense of camaraderie among the Phantom Thieves (other than perhaps Joker himself). So of course he’d be the most repelled by Maruki’s world specifically because he doesn’t have his friends.
Yusuke still has his friends in the ideal reality Its just likely everyone isnt as connected on a personal level because the terrible events that happened to them do t exist in this reality Joker and the thieves helped yusuke through the Madarame stuff, when yusuke was at his lowest point. But now that stuff was erased
"Maruki-san, you're too awfully kind. But being forced to live in a world full of lies is and never will be true happiness nor what being alive means. With all due respect, I'm putting my foot down!" My quote to him.
Maruki interaction with the Phantom Thieves: Everyone - 0:07 Joker: 0:21-0:33 Morgana: 0:47 Ryuji/Skull: 1:10 Ann/Panther: 1:27 Yusuke/Fox: 1:44 Makoto/Queen: 2:05 Haru/Noir: 2:21 Akechi/Crow: 2:41 Sumire/Violet: 2:58 The fact that Maruki is the final boss and his appearance is almost similar of a god (or as I like to call him, 'Meta "DIO"'), he really isn't doing much as a villain. For that reason, he wants to "help" people with the power of that persona of his, and from what I see and heard, he really is in deep desperation for making "cognitive dreams" for others especially the emotional pain he went through.
I hope to be a writer someday. I hope to someday write an antagonist at least 10% as compelling, interesting, understandable, empathetic, and compassionate as Takuto Maruki.
"Sakura-san! You experienced pain greater than anyone else's! But i can replace that pain with your Mother love!" "I already know my mom loves me! And not just her!"
If striker characters were in this Sophie- Maruki: Sophia i know you wish to have a human heart, to understand pain, i can even save ichinose! Sohpie: I've come to terms on how I'll do that even with suffering! Wolf- Maruki: Hasegawa, you and your daughter suffered so much, you experienced an unjust and unfair torment, let me heal you for akanes sake! Wolf: don't drag her into this, i promised i would get closure on Aois death, and I'll make sure to see that through!
"You believe this world you envision will be best for all but forcing your good intentions on others is no different from an evil act" - Lelouch Lamperouge
"Futaba-san! Do you not want your mother back? To live a happy life with your family is something I can do for you!" "I wish my mother was still alive, but that isn't possible anymore! I promised myself that I would never run from the truth, so no thanks!"
@@FazPersona It's cool to have these off on their own so no one as to go through the entire game just to hear the different dialogue for each of the charachters in this fight.
These offers... they really are things many would take... Having your father alive and kind, able to run again in order to help your mom, able to finally be noticed for one of your greatest passions, have your best friend since you were young safe and sound from any dangers, able to finally join life and be accepted other than just an animal, able to take care of your remaining family and have them all together again, able to forget the mistake you made that led to your sister’s death and live in her name to make her dream come true, able to be brought back and have a 2nd chance of life after dying, and with you... to make sure everyone is happy and not suffering from their inner demons anymore, to finally have a “happy ending”... *”The hardest choices require the strongest wills.”*
Like Morgana said at the end, there would definitely be some people who would. Benefit from Maruki's reality. However taking the freedom of choice from others isn't the right way to go.
Kind of the issue... Maruki's reality is an impossibility because humans are incapable of living the way he would imagine. It's effectively brain control. And it wouldn't work anyways. Yaldaboath's plan is ruin through regression. And Maruki's is ruin through stagnation. What is happiness is life has no pain or suffering. And there's a whole host of issues Maruki's reality would bring that's just way too long for a YT comment
@@Monty2289 There is no ruin in Maruku's world. He'd be able to cognitively rewrite reality. Stagnation wouldn't exist...he could just as easily let everyone be their preferred age, be healthy forever, let humanity advance and grow. People act like he HAS to control everything. If that were the case, you would have less choices in his reality's ending. You have choice. It's only limited when Sojiro asks if you can stay. People would be able to advance technology at a rate that we'd be spreading throughout space with Maruki's reality. There would he no more victims of rape, no more starving people, no more child trafficking. This is the reality you fight against. And it's sad.
@@slayer-22 couldn’t have said it better. I said yes to Maruki first before saying no just to get a different ending. I hate how it seems going against Maruki is a bad thing for a lot of it and for a lot of people just because of “freedom”. I’d sacrifice all of this “free will” to see all the innocent people in pain and suffering in this world to smile and live as they should. It’s so hypocritical that the phantom thieves try to save people who are suffering then just take it all away even though that was their original goal, Maruki just did it on a massive scale. Yeah there are some flaws but I’m sure if you talked to him about it he would change it. Ffs he even gave Akechi, a MASS MURDERER, a second chance at life. And people still hate him... it really is sad.
I get to see all but 3 of those comments and....... It’s just the best final boss fight for an outstanding game It’s a shame many didn’t hear those lines of dialogues, they are among the best of all the persona franchise because it’s not an evil threat it’s a good concerned smart adult who is talking but fell too deep in sorrow and in his messiah complex and became overprotective. I understand what he’s saying and frankly his therapy with Sumire had amazing results once she got back on her own feet.
Gosh i love Akechi, his whole confidant is about him never accepting losing to you/being in control of his life, but he gets his ass handed to him and now that he gets the "victory" gifted to him and his respons to that is *FUCK OFF!*
The best one imo was Akechis. Everyone was projecting these positive affirmations and Akechi was simple expressing how much it was pissing him off. Hahahahaha.
It’s very interesting and telling about Maruki that even at the zenith of his power he was still begging the phantom thieves to accept the reality. Maruki truly is one of the best sympathetic villains I’ve ever seen.
“Takeba-san! You don’t have to spend your days grieving over his death anymore! You two can be together again, for as long as you want…!” “Shut up! He made a sacrifice for the sake of this world, and I’m not going to let you undo what he’s done for all of us!”
Man... It sucks that after having beaten that God of Control thing, they only just left a vacuum for something worse: Someone who thinks they're right.
Both Maruki and Cup do the same thing but with different intentions. While Yaldy wanted to imprison humans and force them to not think and let their life be ruled over by someone else(cup), Maruki wanted to help other reach happiness However, both restrict the act of free will. We already know about Yaldy but with Maruki, it's basically the same thing. By granting everyone's wishes, there's no wrong action, no mistake. Their life is forfeited to Maruki's hands and I love p5r
Toony 123 No I don't think so. If I'm remembering correctly it was confirmed somewhere that the fight with Yaldabaoth was actually brought upon by a wager between him and Philemon at the beginning of Persona 5's story to see whether or not mankind truly desired their will to live freely vs a longing to be dominated by an otherworldly force and lose power over their own lives. This was never touched upon in the actual game for whatever reason. But yeah, Yaldabaoth didn't actually believe the bs he was spewing. When he kept saying your journey to rehabilitation was a game, it was literally a game between two god like entities to see whether or not humans would take the easy way out and give in to his control, or overcome their hardships to achieve emancipation.
the fact they have their personas and were able to overcome him is proof that They didnt need saving on the 1st place, Maruki is the one who gave up in ZA WARUDO!!! And Akechi know his self righteous Bullshit is just like when he was pretending, Thats the reason Akechi is actually a hero Just this once But he has to be punish for what he did and His reward would be Death. But Akechi went Down Under his Own terms like the bastard he was killed by his puppet cognitive version.
Maruki was my favorite Persona character in a long time. Truly a fascinating character. He truly made you think about whether the choice you made was right or not.
The moment you realise that at the same time maruki made this happy reality, probebly the persona 3 crew and the persona 4 crew just got their wishes. Think about it. Spoilers for persona 3,4: Makoto probebly is alive with his parents and Nyx isnt a threat anymore. Yukary got her father back, akahiko got his sister and maybe their parents too. Adachi got to be the real detective he wanted to, hanako got her mother, yoseke got saki alive. And so much more. But the only ones in this reality that were awake are akechi and joker. I mean if yu were awake he would have done something. So it's some interesting thing to think about...
"Kasagiri-san, you suffered for far too long, you want to see your family again? I can fix it, with my mind! I can save you!" "Saving, HA! My future is my script! But somethings are best untouched. Just let the Kasagiri & Owatai names rest in peace, dammit!"
The voice acting and writing really sell each of these responses. Each one, especially if you 100% each, feels so in character and helps show how far they have come. This part of the game was a complex but emotional part that I’m glad I wasn’t spoiled on.
Maruki may damn well be my favorite Persona antagonist, period. I say antagonist and not villain because right down to his core, his every intent was purely beneficial and benevolent to the point that the Phantom Thieves unanimously agreed he isn't a "shitty abusive adult in power" like all their other targets; they just can't agree with forcing his version of their happiness on everyone and denying them the pain that allows them to grow and change and adapt in life. Maruki is a good man. Hell, he is a great man. But he is also a very tortured and broken soul in desperate need of the very salvation he promises (and intends to give) to the entire world. And because of that, he is the embodiment of the saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."
In my point of view, he is a well-written character, whose idea of desire thinks of making a sacrifice for the good of all, despite trapping everyone in an false idea of the perfect world I really like the dude just saying :)
@@vicsalvargas9565 Maruki's arc kind of serves as the basis of Scramble storyline, though the Jail Kings are kind of like the Palace Rulers. The only difference is that their actions was caused by trauma, in a sense due to bullying, being used/framed, abuse. This results them in reaching the breaking point and uses EMMA as the easy way out to take revenge on those whom wronged them. The EMMA app and Jail serves the same function as Maruki's Palace and Persona, except that this leads the victims to be brainwashed and blindly follow the Jail King. The Jail Kings actions is no different from escapism, in which the Phantom Thieves including their new comrades Sophia and Zenkichi (Wolf) learned the source of the distorted desires in the Lock Keeper area, similar to the memory tapes/recordings. The thieves "change of heart" on the Jail Kings is more on giving them a reality check, taking on a more gentler approach despite fighting their shadow selves
NGL... If someone like Maruki came along and offered to stop all pain and suffering in my life, I'd probably take the offer in a heartbeat. I got nothing to live for in this life. Not friends, not family, not children, not a special someone. The idea that someone could come along and take away the pain I'm enduring, I'd be more than happy to live in that world of blissful ignorance and relief...
I think that is fine. I dong think that what Maruki is doing is evil but the way he is doing is self centered. He doesnt seem to consider that there may be better ways of achieving a happier world. His is the quickest and easiest but Im not sure it is the best. It sacrifices a lot of things that I think are important. I think that a better use of his powers would be to remove the meaningless pain in the world like the slavery, rape ans natural disasters but I dont think he should remove the hability for people to disagree and challenge each other.
Maruki: Arisato-San, please don’t throw your existence away. You want to live with everyone and follow your hopes and dreams. I can give you a world where you can live and achieve those possibilities
Maruki: Takeba-san, you should never have experienced such traumatic loss. Please, let me help you by changing your reality so you can be with your father, and love again.

Mishima: I would like to, but no… I refuse your offer, all I wanted is to make Phantom Thieves and my website popular, not fame or money. Shiho: Not happening, even though last years was a rough time for me and having Takamaki-San being here to cheer me up from my rehab, I won’t run away from my pains I’ve suffered…

I am taking upon my self to make one for Joker. Maruki: Joker, you don’t have to keep beating your self up over Akechi-kuns death. Maruki: you can live in a world where both of you can live peacefully.
No matter what world he makes up i’m not accepting that. it’s artificial. what’s the point of trying to be happy when you’re happy all the time? life is supposed to be with ups and downs. getting rid of those downs is slowing your chance to grow as a person. If you lost something or someone i relate. but we can’t bring those things back. there’s only 1 reality and that’s the only timeline i’m living in period.
Given he effectively has taken Yaldabaoth's place and has dominion over reality itself, I think it's safe to say his subsequent immortality ensures that his illusion never "breaks".
This happy world... It reminds me of Yivo’s “paradise” in Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs. Even the tentacles gave me that feeling of disgust. I even pictured the idea of the cognitive beings going into full-on ecstasy mode as those tentacles burrow their way into their heads.
"Renji-kun, Didn't you wish you could've seen your brother again under different conditions? Or even pick up where you left off? Your brother doesn't have to die!" Because striker isn't a sequel of royal. You should wait for P5 Striker the Royal, soon to be announced in September, persona series 25th anniversary, lol
Actally Strikers makes it clear that Morgana does that purely out of reflex now and there's even times where he almost forgots to do it too. Because despite that still being a gag he rarely brings up wanting to be human anymore. Meaning the charachter development DID stick as I thought it would.
@@Cloud-dt6xb I like to think that while Morgana does care about the Thieves, the ones he feels closest to are Joker, for obvious reasons, Ann, because of his unrequited crush on her, Haru, because she took care of him, and helped him realize that it's okay to lean on your teammates if you feel inadequate, and Futaba, because of how she acts as his second caretaker aside from Joker.
His boss battle blew me away! I loved the soundtrack! I swear when we went to Eden, I had flash backs of Breath of Fire III, where Myria was offering for Ryu to also stay in Eden and no harm would come to him and Teepo. This brought similar nostalgia indeed in exchange for “a world of peace and safe from harm from the Brood.” While he is not someone filled with maliciousness, Marukis plan would literally cause for people to no longer put any effort or hard work in their dreams. He really was no different from Yaldabaoth when he started to say he was chosen by the world. You can tell Atlus did an amazing job with this additional arc. Very happy for this addition!

God I love Akechi. Everyone in the party has something inspiring to comeback with while Akechi is just telling Maruki to stfu.
And the best part is that Akechi doesn’t even throw his life away. In the hidden ending he’s still alive.
@@ndDavilos He didn't know that however due to the gap in his memory
It's probably Maruki messing with Akechis cognition, reasons:
- Unlike the other dead characters (Okumura and Wakaba) Akechi doesn't dissappear when Joker realizes that he is in a fake reality.
- Similarly Akechi retains his "unique" personality unlike Wakaba, Okumura, and Madarame who all become the ideal versions the Phantom Thieves imagine them to be (for reference refer to the fake reality ending to see Jokers cognition of Akechis personality.)
- Akechi appeared 5 days before any of the other reality bending changes and before Joker has his dream in the school.

He's essentially an utilitarian extremist.
Ugh, after finishing the game every time I go back to when Sumire was “Kasumi”, all I could think of what Yusuke said that bcame a meme:
“That was truly cringeworthy.”
Not because I didn’t like it, but because she was in denial and masquerading as a dead person.
I kinda get maruki tho and am so sad for him cuz he actually would give us that world he’s genuinely kind lol not corrupted, and god I love throw away your mask

I gotta admit, Maruki's offer is wrong on many levels, but damn it is tempting...
Edit: Changed my mind. He's not entirely wrong. Good idea, not so good execution
How is it wrong?
I do admit his good intentions aren’t that fatal, especially how he lost his girlfriend and Shido stole his works. But rewriting everyone’s cognitions in a happy dream world? That’s a bit too far.
you'll be living a world of lies and false happiness.
@@pixelperson182 1) There will come a point where he will have to start controlling people beyond just granting desires. 2) Some request or dreams will conflcit with others because you can't make everyone happy. 3) A good dictator is still a dictator. He is a human that can make errors and turn power hungry.
@@hannarekhavi3478 but its not false happiness he even says you have free will in it so you can choose to do whatever you want. it also wont be lies if it becomes the truth because it will become the norm it isnt a bad ending at all. look at the side characters for example do you really think shiho will gain "strength" and "happiness" by being raped and overcoming it? no of course not that will loom over her for her entire life that wont make you strong, pain and suffering doesn't make someone strong at all.
Marukis intentions at first are selfish because it was about pride, because he wanted to get back at his professor for shutting down his work but it became good because he only wants the best for people and granting wishes and changing reality to do so, marukis rebellion is greater than the phantom thieves or anyone else we have seen since his not rebelling against a society that ostracised him, but his rebelling against the natural order of the world to create a new one is that really that bad? i mean the phantom thieves have questionable actions aswell they do these change of hearts without the consent and force it upon the person drastically changing and destroying the persons mind they live with no desires to do anything and become apathetic as seen in the depths of mementos everyone in the palace is so distraut about their sins they can't even function and wallow in self pity is that really justice? who do you think suffers in marukis world no one besides him. he is a god who has to keep all of this in line if he sticks to his intentions is another thing but maruki is shown to be a determined individual and will take the mantle of god as seen in the "bad" ending where he shows up to the gang to take a picture for akechi.
maruki is a good guy who has the best intentions for everyone, the phantom thieves are not good they only act on their selfless desire if they thought that pain and suffering can give "strength" then why did they change hearts in the first place because to them it would make you a stronger person they are total hypocrites as soon as someone does remotely similar to stealing hearts but on a grand scale level but actually not changing the persons personality in the process but the world they throw a hissy fit and say its wrong and that the "natural order" is better who the fuck cares about the natural order if we can change it for the better we should and we have.
also akechi is a fucking murderer who wants to stop it because he doesn't want to be held down by anyone akechi is 10/10 in this game but his a fucking murderer and thats somehow better than a person who is going to put all the weight on his shoulders without any gratitude to make everyone but him happy and content with their lives.
I love that they did this, it's like a perfect capper for each of their charachter arcs, and then of course Akechi just does'nt give a crap. It's so weird he's supposed to be a cognitive version but he acts and talks exactly how you'd expect him to be after his sacrifice. I like to believe this was actually him and that events reseting simply meant he woke up somewhere else like Joker and Morgana.
He’s actually the real Akechi. Watch the true ending till the end and see someone with his exact outfit with only the face obscured. Doesn’t deserve to be called subtle: I actually think that was just Maruki trying to manipulate him into submission.
Akechi was right when he said Maruki was just dangling his life over his head
@@bennettclark6974 Yeah. Akechi's no fool; he wouldn't return to a reality where he's dead. Instead, he'd rather take down Akechi cause if he doesn't he'll be stuck hanging out with the Phantom Thieves for the rest of his life.
@@bennettclark6974 The term is heavily implied but there's no denial of it either which I think is smart for a couple of reasons. It leaves it up to the viewers interpratation if it was really him, and should they decide to add him as dlc for Scramble it means they've got an easy out now storywise.
wtf? dude the game explicitly tells you this is the same person i cannot believe you dont know that unless you didnt play the game, i mean they literally just told you straight up. there is nothing cognitive about him.
@@C3l3bi1 Do me a favor and stop talking to me like I'm stupid.

2:00 I always got the sense Yuske got the most out of the sense of camaraderie among the Phantom Thieves (other than perhaps Joker himself). So of course he’d be the most repelled by Maruki’s world specifically because he doesn’t have his friends.
Yusuke still has his friends in the ideal reality
Its just likely everyone isnt as connected on a personal level because the terrible events that happened to them do t exist in this reality
Joker and the thieves helped yusuke through the Madarame stuff, when yusuke was at his lowest point. But now that stuff was erased
Original Gameteer that’s what I meant. Yuske lost that deep bond with the others that was born of his and their suffering.

The fact that Maruki is the final boss and his appearance is almost similar of a god (or as I like to call him, 'Meta "DIO"'), he really isn't doing much as a villain. For that reason, he wants to "help" people with the power of that persona of his, and from what I see and heard, he really is in deep desperation for making "cognitive dreams" for others especially the emotional pain he went through.

@@Monty2289 the actual problem imo is that you can’t truly live life without any pain, let alone rejecting any human emotion.
It’s just the best final boss fight for an outstanding game
It’s a shame many didn’t hear those lines of dialogues, they are among the best of all the persona franchise because it’s not an evil threat it’s a good concerned smart adult who is talking but fell too deep in sorrow and in his messiah complex and became overprotective.
You two can be together again, for as long as you want…!”

Both Maruki and Cup do the same thing but with different intentions. While Yaldy wanted to imprison humans and force them to not think and let their life be ruled over by someone else(cup), Maruki wanted to help other reach happiness
However, both restrict the act of free will. We already know about Yaldy but with Maruki, it's basically the same thing. By granting everyone's wishes, there's no wrong action, no mistake. Their life is forfeited to Maruki's hands and I love p5r
Toony 123
No I don't think so.
It's so messed up. Then fighting a guy with a heart too big for his own good. I mean is it really THEM that needs saving?
the fact they have their personas and were able to overcome him is proof that They didnt need saving on the 1st place, Maruki is the one who gave up in ZA WARUDO!!!
When I fight Maruki, I feel the frustration that villains feel when heroes never lose hope and keep standing up.
they already saved each other
Maruki was my favorite Persona character in a long time. Truly a fascinating character. He truly made you think about whether the choice you made was right or not.
An anti-villain in every sense of the word.
The moment you realise that at the same time maruki made this happy reality, probebly the persona 3 crew and the persona 4 crew just got their wishes. Think about it.
Spoilers for persona 3,4:
Makoto probebly is alive with his parents and Nyx isnt a threat anymore.
I think so far it only effect the place Persona 5 is in, like at best the parts of the world that Persona 5 showcase
I think it was mentioned that the “deadline” for this quarter is basically him going from controlling Persona 5’s setting to the rest of the world.
"Kasagiri-san, you suffered for far too long, you want to see your family again? I can fix it, with my mind! I can save you!"
"Saving, HA!
"If you're with Kawakami-kun and his friends, you could begin to atone for what you've done!" I spilled my water
Maruki best final antagonist of the game
Riddle me this: “When is the villain...not the villain?”
@@paolocalapatia6401 when he is the victim
SinlessGalaxy 31 ...Exactly. Despite how wrong about what he’s doin...I just can’t hate him unlike the other Final Bosses of this game😞
In my point of view, he is a well-written character, whose idea of desire thinks of making a sacrifice for the good of all, despite trapping everyone in an false idea of the perfect world
I really like the dude just saying :)
This…. Makes it special as Maruki sacrificed everything…. But his voice actor was betrayed…. And now he’s gone…. RIP😭
Yes. It's very sad. In his last video he said we're gonna kick its butt (the cancer) but sadly reality betrayed him.
@@elimDBZ Billy gave up everything! EVERYTHING!
God I always get so hyped hearing his boss theme.
I woukd also advice you to learn about ways in which you can be manipulated so that you are able to protect yourself.
I love how, out of context, Maruki's plea to Ryuji sounds like if he ran away from home, his mom would have an easier life. Honestly true either way.
I couldnt hate Maruki. He just wanted to help people.
his ending makes you feel like the bad guy in the story
Yep, but that again, he brainwash his target which left them lifeless also, have to put him out of his misery
Akechis line should of been “I’m repaying my debts right now, by Crushing you!
God I love this boss so much. Props to the writers for creating such a well done character
God i felt so bad facing and fighting maruki, i get what he meant and was morally in a dilemma, i love what they did with this game

Anyone who played Persona 4 know why Maruki’s reality is wrong
Maruki: *Exist*
Investigation Team: Now that's an Izanagi-No-Okami level of threat !
Nihil Ego I thought it was Izanami? Izanagi is Yu’s persona.
@@BlindMelonLord Yes, that's the point. The original meme is "Now that's an Avenger level of threat !

Without hardship we as people we cannot grow we deal with it to improve and without hardahip humanity will turn stagnant.
I am taking upon my self to make one for Joker.
Maruki: Joker, you don’t have to keep beating your self up over Akechi-kuns death.
Maruki: you can live in a world where both of you can live peacefully.
Joker: I told you before that I won’t accept this reality. I came to save you from your delusion not succumb to it.
As the 10th Doctor once said, "only a crazy person would say they're saving you."
Maruki declaring his very obvious messiah/savior complex loud and unabashedly proud
No matter what world he makes up i’m not accepting that. it’s artificial. what’s the point of trying to be happy when you’re happy all the time? life is supposed to be with ups and downs. getting rid of those downs is slowing your chance to grow as a person. If you lost something or someone i relate. but we can’t bring those things back. there’s only 1 reality and that’s the only timeline i’m living in period.
i can just imagine what would happen when Maruki’s world shuts down and everyone realized that it was all fake.
2:54 wow Akechi
"Renji-kun, Didn't you wish you could've seen your brother again under different conditions? Or even pick up where you left off? Your brother doesn't have to die!"
"You underestimate the bond we share Maruki! I was more than content with keeping my promise to him back then and I'll keep this promise too!"
Morgana : I don’t care about how I look anymore
Morgana in Strikers : Im not a cat!
Because striker isn't a sequel of royal.
@@Suku1509 If thats on switch, I'M PICKING IT UP!!!
Maruki and your party say lots of emotional and inspiring stuff, fully showcasing how they’ve changed over the course of the game.
Akechi: 2:53

Go Haru! Fucking mighty!
Also I wanna cry from the hurt in Maruki's voice
His boss battle blew me away! I loved the soundtrack! I swear when we went to Eden, I had flash backs of Breath of Fire III, where Myria was offering for Ryu to also stay in Eden and no harm would come to him and Teepo. This brought similar nostalgia indeed in exchange for “a world of peace and safe from harm from the Brood.”
While he is not someone filled with maliciousness, Marukis plan would literally cause for people to no longer put any effort or hard work in their dreams. He really was no different from Yaldabaoth when he started to say he was chosen by the world. You can tell Atlus did an amazing job with this additional arc. Very happy for this addition!
