Crow slogan uncovering the truth. This time when he us the black mask....is deciding the truth....that means is no longer chained to the protocols and his dark past....this time he Will Build his own future. Loki in Thor Ragnarok received his redemption. Akechi persona is Loki...maybe commited crines but that not means he can't do anithing...he Made the Decition of helping Ren and Kasumi.
It was temporary but having Akechi as your navigator who told you about enemy weaknesses and such was so amazing like the shit he says actually had me laughing out loud. The game would be 100 times better if he was always making comments like that
Honestly I wish there was a navi switch option between morgana, futaba , makoto and akechi also yes I would also pick akechi cuz his voice lines are a breath for fresh air compared to most
It’s refreshing to see Akechi verbally argue with a villain becuase he flat out thinks what he’s doing is wrong. I mean with Shido it was clear his own ambitions was fueling him but here it’s just his morality
I think its less of a morality, at least in this case, but his ideal that he doesn't want anyone else decided his life for him anymore, even if taking his life into his own hands means his certain death.
David Sun yeah but there are instances where he does good stuff without bad intentions. Like he saves Kasumi when she rushes into battle and it’s not like he really needed her since she was weak but he still saved her. He also could’ve really just shot himself in real life to prevent that but his first idea was to help joker
Your Everyday Protagonist right, saving the world by putting people in a illusion like world filled with what they want with the cost of living under someone’s rule, and the real reality practically being wiped out of existence by the same guy who’s trying to ‘save’ the world
So... Dr. Maruki wants to erase all suffering to give everyone a life they want, at the cost of being brainwashed and brought into a hollow reality. I'm having Persona 4 flashback.
10:43 I find it interesting that Maruki made this comment because it’s like he KNOWS that Joker will hesitate and may even accept his reality (I guess depending on the ending you get,) when he finds out about Akechi. Also, on a different note, Maruki also mentioned something about Joker and Akechi putting themselves in Sumire’s shoes or something in regards to her having survivors guilt and he said something along the lines of “how is someone supposed to be able to heal from that?” And honestly I find it really weird that he used this reasoning because the obvious comeback (at least for me anyways,) would be something along the lines of “yeah, how is she supposed to heal when you never gave her the chance?” Idk I just find it weird I guess because he’s literally a therapist it’s his job to help people heal and grow from traumatic situations not just help them ignore it. I love Maruki, and I get why he’s doing all this, but blinding people and pampering them from the world and their problems won’t help them heal, all that can do is make sure that they can’t grow.
The interesting part is that I doubt that this is what Maruki originally intended. You just taught him about Mementos and the other people taught him exactly what to do.
------------------- SPOILERS BELOW -------------------- I mean, that's why his Persona is Azathoth, the *Blind Idiot God*. He dreams of a perfect world, while being blind to reality and expect everyone to feel that way.
Oelesp That actually makes perfect sense. Because my thoughts about Maruki could probably be summed up as me thinking that he was very kind and cared for people I just always felt that he was.. well, blind.
@@Person-fq9uz Also, it's interresting that Atlus went with Lovecraftian mythos for this Palace, because it's essentially a fictionnal mythos, a mythology that isn't real, just like the reality he creates. Altho, (spoilers for those who care about them) Since his evolved Persona is from Gnosticism, it might represent that he takes a more realistic approach to his ideal. In any case, both of his Personas have really good symbolism behind them and they are a perfect fit for Maruki. Makes me wonder about if Atlus think of the characters then their Personas, or they choose the Personas and create the characters after them
@@Person-fq9uz Yes and I have something more to say. ---- Remember that the persona's actual form is Adam Kadmon. If you don't know what it is, It's not the biblical Adam. That's actually a manifestation of the "Perfect man" and represents the center of the Sefirot (Da'at), and Da'at is also the name of the new Mementos zone. (All other Mementos areas before this point uses the Qliphoth) It's also a representation of enlightenment and wisdom, which is actually the reverse of both Demiurge (Yaldabaoth or the one from Scramble/Strange Journey) and Azathoth, in which both of these represent foolishness. The treasure of his Palace is also a torch, so yeah, you can say he's "gone blind."
I noticed something about kechi. His laser sword's blade started out blue and his outfit was white mostly, however, after he awoke his true persona as Loki, his sword's blade turned red and his outfit turned black. Akechi is the Persona version of Anakin Skywalker confirmed. Atlus, you clever gaming company...
His attitude strikes me a tad more as Red Hood, but I see what you mean. It's actually fitting as he's essentially decided to be a dark hero instead of a "super hero" a al his Robin Hood outfit which was based on Superman.
Joker: Shares name with DC Joker Wields a knife and a gun “We live in a society” Real name is debated across different media Criminal Akechi: Famous Hides behind a facade Named after a black animal with wings Similar costume to batman Justice through vengeance relating to/involving a dead parent (parents in Batman’s case) And their showtime is in a Gotham like setting
Keep in mind: Maruki presents everyone with the chance to live their lives with their dreams granted and full of happiness but it's not a real choice since he does everything he can, including using force, to have them choose the passive option that he desires.
That's basically his distorded desire : He wishes for a perfect world because he can't withstand reality, but he expects everyone to feel the same. He doesn't understand that people CAN live with trauma and suffering and heal from it, because he personally can't. I think, his desires became distorded because he was too personnal about it
Honestly, going from "Let's change the heart of our really creepy gym teacher" to "Let's kill god FUCK YEAH" and then from that to "Your school councillor is a reality warper" went from being batshit insane to not that far fetched
Looking back at this, they really should made a voice distortion in the scene before this. It would be even more shocking seeing him without listening his voice before
Fantastic villain. It’s a very deep concept. What makes it so messed up, is that Maruki is asking teenagers these deep questions about existence. They don’t even know who they are yet, even though this is anime world. Plus, what would happen to HIM in his ideal world? I think he’d go mad with power. He’d be the only one who would know the truth. After enough time, it would get to him, and he’d have everyone worshipping him. I really liked Maruki as the final villain, despite not being evil. But it would corrupt him completely, after enough time.
You should see what Joker’s Palace would look at Leblanc There’s already a fan made music theme for the concept of it on TH-cam Just typed P5 Joker’s Palace.
He really isn't. His ideology is VERY flawed. Advocating for a reality where EVERYONE gets whatever they want just because he wants to "save" them is like saying pedoshita should sexually abuse as many young girls as he wants, because obviously that is "saving" him... I mean, that was what spawned the cognitive palaces of EVERY villain in p5/r in the first place... Maruki's ideal reality would not "save" anyone. Creating a reality such as his where everyone can abuse such power to however they want and have no control in the matter is like living a reality worse than hell. It doesn't make sense and is very counterproductive to what maruki thinks is best for everyone despite his intentions being pure. And let's not forget that maruki's ideal reality was nothing short of fake. He brainwashed the entire phantom thieves in accepting a fake reality that they never asked for and are forced to live it against their will. This is even proven during the end credits where every phantom thief gets what they want. Like how Inari's ideal reality is literally him accepting the very man who let his mother die instead of wishing for his mom to be alive like the rest of the phantom thieves' parents. Another would be "Kasumi" literally replacing her twin dead sister's existence despite the fact her dead twin sister had taken care of her without any hint of burden and literally sacrificed herself to SAVE her. Haru who wished her father to be alive despite him seeing haru as nothing more than a political tool over the years of her life instead of seeing her as daughter. Joker, who is forced to accept sojiro's offer as his adopted father despite him already having a father (as if that's a bad thing, but that's the besides the point). The point is, by accepting maruki's reality, you are literally stuck with choices beyond your control because of your very own desires. And that was what happened in p5r's ideal ending. I would go as far as to say that by accepting maruki's fake reality, every phantom thief wouldn't have a purpose anymore. Because there's no hardship to be had for purpose to be born if you can simply wish for whatever you want. And by doing so, the phantom thieves would've never met each other because of this very reason. It was because of the hardship that the phantom thieves had purpose, and it was because of that purpose that they were able to meet one another and form the phantom thieves in the first place. P5R's narrative was such a MASSIVE disappointment that it went completely downhill the moment maruki could rewrite reality to however he desired. Lol, like... All his ranting about wanting to "save" everyone stemming from his dead gf was nothing short of blindsided stupidity. Considering he held the answer and power to his very OWN problem that could've prevented the poorly written narrative of p5r in the first place... And for people who don't know what I mean, I meant how maruki could've simply used his reality warping persona's power to undo his gf's death as if it never happened. And why couldn't he? He was able to bring back inkling's dead mom. Haru-who's dead dad. Momkoto's dead dad. Pankechi's dead arse. There was literally NO reason for him to become an altruistic messiah when he could've solved his own problems from the very beginning... And if that wasn't bad enough, the boss fight leading up to maruki was so underwhelmingly BORING that it ended with a scripted cutscene victory... And ironically, a gunshot to the head no less... Now, doesn't that look familiar somewhere. Oh, right! Jaldaboath's defeat was literally the SAME THING...!
@@Evil_Beauty so many words yet you somehow messed up everything about Marukis ideology. Marukis shadows in his palace states that happiness derived from the suffering of others is in itself its own unhappiness, he would not grant any desires that result in the suffering of other beings. Instead he’d probably just change the core causes or factors that ended in such desires, for example they would simply remove the pedos attraction to children, it is a mental illness after all. Maruki doesn’t grant wishes that result in others suffering but he can still find workarounds that cause the person who wishes suffering upon others to still be happy. He would simply remove the pedos attraction. For example, outside of your example, should 2 people want each other dead, and would stop at nothing to kill each other, Maruki would remove the core causes of their hatred, for example by removing a past wrong committed. Next off, you would still have free will, what is free will? It is the ability to make the choices that you desire, the fact that some others may try to stop you is a inherent part of living with other people. And as per Maruki being himself, he will only try to stop you if you try to hurt others, it’s no different from law enforcement except law enforcement isn’t always perfect and often is corrupt while Maruki is literally preventing suffering to it’s greatest extent. Maruki isn’t creating a world where everyone can abuse everyone, that’s called the real world, Marukis creating a world where peoples wishes will come true and they will gain happiness should they desire it, as long as such wishes do not require others sufferance. Also, Marukis reality isn’t “fake”. This isn’t pretending your problems don’t exist, this is literally removing the problems at hand, dead relative? They alive now. Cancer? It’s gone, or never occurred. Poverty, any poverty? Gone. His power isn’t the stuff he used with sumire where he just made her think that her problems didn’t exist, that was when his power was limited, now he could literally just bring Sumires sister back and make the accident never have happened. Also the people he revives are real, Akechi is one of the revived and he still maintains a persona meaning he’s definitely a real person, not some construct. Next off, you still don’t understand how his powers work and what he does with said powers. Maruki only grants desires that people WISH for, provided they do not involve suffering in which case he will shape events in the manner that such desires never formed and the individual can be happy without others suffering, which is still granting what they want but indirectly. Going back to that 2 people example, Maruki doesn’t grant the wish of having the other dead but instead changes the trade guy that created such a spiteful idea, which still makes the person happy. Maruki only grants stuff in accordance to peoples desires, direct or indirect, hes not taking peoples lives into his own hands deciding what will make them happy, he’s listening to what makes them happy and granting it. He could 100% revive sumires sister but since she actively wished for something different, Maruki goes with what she wished for, otherwise he’d literally be deciding what makes others happy and he could very well be wrong or flawed in his decisions. Maruki is only granting what the people want, not what he thinks Is best for them, in direct contrast the phantom thieves who impose their desires on others. Also altering reality to where his gf never underwent a tragedy would’ve also gone against the previously stated only grant what people want and not what you think is best idea. Also this issue only applies to problems that he solved with his limited cognitive abilities, which are very few and don’t accurately reflect his solutions, if he had the power from the start or encountered some other people in this situation, he’d just undo the tragedy, in this scenario undoing his original memory wipe fix would involve his gf in his life again which impacts the whole wish granting thing as hes now involved in someone’s life, which he doesn’t want as to devote himself to helping others. His gfs case is very specific and doesn’t accurately reflect how he’d solve such a problem for anyone else, it’s a specific special case that has its own reasons for why it is as it is. Much of your hate comes from not understanding the plot, in fact I doubt you actually listened to Maruki explain what he’s even doing. Not only that, have you considered trying thinking about basic morality? He had the power to help others and instead of only using it to fix his own problems, he tried to help others, the fact someone would think that to be a bad thing implies a serious lack of morality on their part. I hope you understand the story and Maruki better and that with this, persona royal becomes much better as a story.
@@Rick-lq3xo Tl;dr. It's funnily ironic that Maruki can grant ANY desire to those that are suffering all but his own. His crusade in donning the ridiculous notion that he is some sort of "messiah" was nothing short but laughable and overrated. Considering the fact he literally possessed the very power that can undo his dead gf that led to his very OWN suffering without the need to play this pathetic charade of a fool playing god, which stemmed him having cognitive dissonance in his beliefs. The fact he even brainwashed the PTs by forcibly having them romanticized their inner most "desires" already speaks about the true nature of his character. Which btw, makes literally EVERYTHING you say in defense of his character being moot.
It hard to hate a villain like him. Maruki is so... unlike any antagonist I've ever seen. His demeanor, his beliefs, as benevolently condescending they may be, its the way he words and says it really makes hard for me to have the heart to tell him off... It's like talking to a kind loving father.
Maruki wasn't a villain, he just had different ideals from the Phantom Thieves. Also I usually don't cry from video games but when I beat Maruki and then saw him in the final cutscene in the game saying "When you ever get down in life...you can start over like me." I pretty much teared up because his character and confidant had a massive impact on the story for me.
12:06 Maruki: My reality can become just the way you like. Goro: I wish Joker was dead. Joker: I wish I stayed alive. Both: So who's wish you gonna make come true b**ch?!
He will make it so Goro thinks Joker is dead by faking it for him and keeping Joker away from him because he can bend reality itself so he can do anything he wants maybe make Goro win the loterry so he goes to live abroad and before going he learns Joker died which is fake then lives happily ever after with Shido and his mom
Robbie does a pretty good job voicing characters like this If you're interesed in other jobs of his, he also voices Hubert in Fire Emblem Three Houses and Kayn in League of Legends
One thing I love about Maruki as an antagonist is that you could make it seem like Joker is the bad guy. It all depends on how you look at it. From Maruki's side, he wants everyone to live a happy life, and Joker is trying to stop that, and from Joker's side, Maruki is forcing people into this new reality where everything thing is good, but they don't learn the things that make us people, like our own flaws and mistakes in life.
But not everyone is strong enough to recover. There are some events you can't recover or grow from under your own strength or anyone's. Those would be helped the most by Maruki's reality.
@@coroanmon10023 that’s probably cause of his ex.. because he couldn’t do anything but watch that traumatic event happen to her which cause her to never really... get over it, this was the alternative.. not only “helping” her but people that are like her. ..... honestly... I have no words for this..
Personally, I'd really love a reality that conforms to my wishes. But then again, where's the meaning in that? If every dream comes true right away, then it wouldn't be called a dream anymore, would it? It would just be called reality. That means there'd be no such thing as dreams anymore. And if dreams don't exist, then everything is the reality. And if everything is reality, then why call it anything at all? If there is no such thing as "not reality" then "reality" wouldn't exist either. Why name something that does not need distinction? Then it would bleed out to the essence of human desire. If everything we want is given to us right away, then eventually we will have everything conceivable to the human mind. And if we have everything, we will stop wanting, and we will cease functioning (because we've attained everything). Or, if we want our mind to transcend a higher plane so that we can conceive even more desire, then we will be left wanting infinitely. Ironic isn't it? In wanting our wishes to be fulfilled this way, all we would achieve is either "not wanting" or "infinitely wanting" and not "fulfillment".
straypaper almost like never waiting for Royal, or reaching rank 10 right away on the SLs or anything really as the warm feeling of reaching it is not as strong.
I feel like if you started to think like that, and you began to wish you had something you had to actually achieve yourself, the reality would be warped in a way that you would at least feel like you had to work towards what you want. To be honest I don't think there could be much of a downside to Maruki's reality aside from the fact that it's morally really fucked up
@@wikemazowski2479 The downside is that it is all in control of one man too much power to one man. This also means he either dies of old age causing reality itself to collapse or he becomes a god due to the peoples wishes and eventually becomes a dictator out of boredom, not much different from yaldie but having even greater control. Even before that, you clearly sees that he imposes his own subjective morality objectively on others. Even as a counselor, maruki believes in running away or avoiding problems instead of fixing them quite similar to how the japanese society works. Ironic considering maruki wants to do it exactly because the japanese society ignores emotional pain and mental health. His intentions are good but his methods far from it.
the only inconvenience of that supposed perfect world....its Sumire being erased from the existence for grant Kasumi her existence(it be would be more easier if both sisters are alive)
Life is suffering, anyone who try's to tell you otherwise is trying to sell you something. Living on the other hand, is how you deal with those hard times, and in doing so, shows your true inner strength.
So this whole thing is an extension . If I remember correctly in the original Around New Year's is basically the ending, yet here we are with everything being so different. Joker still being here, everyone living happier separate lives, even the fact that Go to is still alive, so much of this that DIDN'T happen in the original, but I guess this means how they with it from here on will be how things truly end.
Once I entered the Palace and heard “research” and “happiness”, I immediately assumed the Palace Ruler was Maruki. I realized that we hadn’t seen enough of his character even in his confidant storyline, but his reveal was still pretty crazy.
In Maruki defense, I don't think sumire could just recovered in year time or even more so knows she was cause of her sister death. In fact I would find her to be very unstable girl for long time and need serious rehab to get over that as anyone would.
Between the PTSD of losing her 'Better Sister' and the Survivor's guilt she probably also suffered from, Sumire would probably have entered a vegative state (like Rumi ) if Maruki hadn't intervened.
The only issue with Kasumi’s origin story is that her origin is VERY similar to Futaba. Both had depression because they see themselves killing a relative. They try to run away from their problems the wrong way. Futaba commits suicide (happens if you don’t complete it on time) and Kasumi wants to erase her own name and change her entirety. Both tried to deny the truth they were shown at first but later found the truth for themselves. They even made a decision based on what the truth was shown for them. It’s weird that they even got their personas partly due to them seeing a version of themselves.
This game tackles the theme of loss and how people handle loss. You can also include Sae since her palace manifests from the death of her and makotos dad. And you also see how that affects makoto too. And it even goes for Haru as well, despite not being handled as well as I think it could’ve . I believe the approach to Haru was they were trying to have her be the one who bottles all of their emotions, mostly cause she wants to show that she is strong enough to be part of the phantom thieves and run a multi-billion dollar corporation. And also extends to losing loved ones not quite due to death, like Maruki.
I can understand Dr. Maruki's intentions, but he went about it the wrong way. If we just had a perfect reality with no suffering, there would be no lessons to learn to grow as a person. Sometimes , we shouldn't have to go through certain stuff to learn a lesson cuz it's would lead to invalidating our own feelings and making ourselves feel like shit for things that isn't our fault in the first place. Those things could make us stronger in a sense that were not bound by our mistakes or past anymore, and that were willing to move past it and heal from it. I've never asked to suffer, but I dont want a perfect world either. We can't turn the clock back, even if we wanted to. We just do what we can. Sometimes, the past can be unbearable, but its like the more we run away from it, the less time it catches up to us. Its unbearable to face it, but facing it proves that we won't let it control us anymore. So.....in a way....Maruki is like the only boss that had good intentions, but he just went about it the wrong way.
Is it me or this seems like what the Jails from P5S is based on? Also I like Maruki's Japanese voice as an enemy more because he sounds less like a teen there.
Idk.... a world where our desires and dreams are already met... it’s.. heart warming and ... it does make me happy... but.. idk... I’d love a world where I can see dad again and to see the rest of deceased family members alive and well... idk man... this shit is tough.. :(
Well if every thing you want happens why would you even try? People die, you cant Save everyone but they can be your motivation to be better and to Save others, Instead of them becoming your unclosed wound that would never stop bleeding, let it become a scar, a reminder of reality as it is. I have hard time accepting reality as it is I want to change it in some way or form but if it happened now I would feel like my goal something I wanted to do So badly would be taken/stolen from me. you can't turn back the clocks I wanted to Meet my younger sibling but he died before I even met him if I met him now how would he be? What would he become? I wanted to know but he died even if I don't know him I wish I could Just hug him I wanted to have better siblings but our flaws makes us humans, mistakes we make are our lessons and death is our last bell.
This palace is just P4 abridged if Yu heard this he’d just get flashbacks of what happened to him in his ideal reality (P4 animation), he’d would want to take this place down too because it legitimately scared him
What ideal reality? Where the day before Yu leaves Inaba keeps repeating like Edge of Tomorrow? Or when Shadow Mitsuo dragged Yu in a fake world where everyone left Yu behind?
You can draw parallels between Sumire Yoshizawa and Shiki Misaki from The World Ends With You. Both characters were consumed with the idea of giving up the thing they took for granted, their original appearance, to become somebody else, and coming to terms with remembering that came with learning how to be thankful for who you are and how you turned out, despite life giving you a huge turndown. The only difference here is, well, how *death factors:* Shiki's original appearance was her "entry fee" for the Reaper's Game, and she instead got to look like the person she looked up to and idolized the most in her life. But she had to come to grips with the fact that she could never _be_ her. Sumire had her cognition of self changed so she could BE her sister and carry on her dreams, but the other side of the coin is that she could forget about _being the person who caused her sister to die._
18:33 I think it's really telling that someone with the life and personality of Akechi is literally unable to comprehend someone that just genuinely wants the best for people.
When i first met maruki in my playthrough, i jokingly made the comment "uh oh, women thinks he's hot, by laws of anime he's secretly a villain", Then he actually shows up as the final boss. Its akechi all over again
I’d say he’s more of an antagonist than a villain. His goals are selfless and he genuinely wants to make people happy, and so I personally can sympathize with him. Although eliminating suffering is for sure misguided as people need to endure hardship and pain to grow.
You know what the most horrifying part of all of this is? Sumire didn't wished for her sister to be back on this distorted reality, not like Haru or Futaba wished for their parent to be alive again. She wanted her sister life on herself. That's messed up.
This is a really complicated question. Do you let all your dreams come true with no effort or fight for your future? Know everlasting peace on earth or make your own peace? Banish your darkness from the world or accept it exists because of your light? Be free of pain, but never truly know success? Fix all your problems with a click of a button or live with them and further understand who you are? Geez... this is seriously philosophical and I love it.
akechi in game: black armor made from the dark blood of the guilty. akechi when you see his costume up close: black silky costume with plastic edgy helmet.
"Who would be able to cope with that survivor's gult" Me in my mind : "what did Vin diesel eat for dinner " "Survivor's gult because the death of Paul Walker"
You know, I do really love Maruki as a villain...But you gotta admit; his plan, while brilliant, is just a clever twist on the whole "I will destroy Spira! I will save it! If all life were to end in Spira, all suffering would end!" cliché.
Maruki: You two are not exempt from the people I wish to save. My really can become just the way you like. Akechi: ... All right. I want HIM to be dead. *Points to Joker * Joker: *Tells Dr. Maruki that he wants to live* Maruki: ... Uh... FIN
I like to imagine that after this is brought up, everything just pauses. The amount of control Maruki has over reality remains the same as he, Joker, Akechi, and an unconscious Sumire remain in the same room for all of eternity waiting for Maruki to find a way to make that reality a possibility
@@iwantsleep8079 not that hard honestly. He can change akechi's cognition to make him believe joker is dead(like with sumire being kasumi) and joker stays alive. Problem solved as long as maruki can keep joker and akechi apart.
So basically Dr. Maruki = Obito Uchiha. They literally have the same plan and motive. Hell, even the shadows in his palace all have an Obito mask on them!
The kasumi cutsence is actully pretty sad her sister wasn’t having it so she tried to kill herself but than kasumi got killed instead of her sister that’s just so sad tho
Joker: “You fucked with my world, you fucked with my friends, you fucked with my girl, but probably the most egregious, YOU FUCKED WITH MY CAT, AND I CAN NEVER FORGIVE THAT”
Oh yeah, Morgana originally has the voice of the donut-living swimmer Asahina, then when he becomes human, he has the voice of Nagito, filled with hope bagels. Danganronpa reference.
I would have lost it if I didn't hear he was involved with the final semester, the fact his confidant was required, or that aspects of the palace hinted at him
So uhhhh... When the Shadow was changing into Warped Abyss... with the blue ooze from the mask... I'm not the only one that got vibes of the Dramaturgy MV, right?
*In the past* Maruki: *Explains wanting to make everyone happy* Me: "Uh, what if people have conflicting interests? You can't make everyone happy if their interests' conflict with each other!" *2022 me* Maruki: *Explains wanting to make everyone happy* Me: "Yeah... things didn't go too well when Mu or Regret tried it, so give up" (Caligula and Caligula 2 reference)
The thing about Walter White is that Heisenberg was *always* who he really was (as made clear by his "I'm in the empire business" scene). He didnt "become" Heisenberg, he was just dropping the mask. He's more comparable to Akechi than Maruki
Tho muraki has the creepiest moving shadows in his palace (them rushing me especially in the dark cargo or back room areas terrified me alot) , and his use of tentacles on kasumi and himself (and probably everyone who visited his palace) is... Questionable, I can atleast see why people have the mentality of him doing nothing wrong, especially compared to akechi, especially what we had in vanilla P5
Mc: Maruki, the only way I will accept your plan is if there's a way to always stop you or whatever should the day comes you go evil like tyrants from the bible or history books. Also, stopping you from desiring to be worshipped.

Dang. Akechi's party member quotes as Black Mask are completely the opposite of his Crow identity. He even says the "Manifest!" in a different way.

@@fierytigergaming8112 Joker's angry! I kinda like it... but It's not him!
In a way, Joker and Akechi isn’t quite the hero’s here as they are opposing Maruki’s plans to save the world
Your Everyday Protagonist right, saving the world by putting people in a illusion like world filled with what they want with the cost of living under someone’s rule, and the real reality practically being wiped out of existence by the same guy who’s trying to ‘save’ the world
Your Everyday Protagonist they’re trying to free the world. What Maruki did here is oppression of free will.

I find it interesting that Maruki made this comment because it’s like he KNOWS that Joker will hesitate and may even accept his reality (I guess depending on the ending you get,) when he finds out about Akechi.

I mean, that's why his Persona is Azathoth, the *Blind Idiot God*.
He dreams of a perfect world, while being blind to reality and expect everyone to feel that way.
Oelesp
That actually makes perfect sense.
Altho, (spoilers for those who care about them)
Since his evolved Persona is from Gnosticism, it might represent that he takes a more realistic approach to his ideal.
In any case, both of his Personas have really good symbolism behind them and they are a perfect fit for Maruki.
Makes me wonder about if Atlus think of the characters then their Personas, or they choose the Personas and create the characters after them
@@Person-fq9uz
Yes and I have something more to say.

Remember that the persona's actual form is Adam Kadmon.

Keep in mind: Maruki presents everyone with the chance to live their lives with their dreams granted and full of happiness but it's not a real choice since he does everything he can, including using force, to have them choose the passive option that he desires.
That's basically his distorded desire :
He wishes for a perfect world because he can't withstand reality, but he expects everyone to feel the same.
He doesn't understand that people CAN live with trauma and suffering and heal from it, because he personally can't.
I think, his desires became distorded because he was too personnal about it

HOLY SHIT I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE
Looking back at this, they really should made a voice distortion in the scene before this. It would be even more shocking seeing him without listening his voice before
Yeah…
Fantastic villain. It’s a very deep concept. What makes it so messed up, is that Maruki is asking teenagers these deep questions about existence. They don’t even know who they are yet, even though this is anime world.
Plus, what would happen to HIM in his ideal world? I think he’d go mad with power. He’d be the only one who would know the truth. After enough time, it would get to him, and he’d have everyone worshipping him. I really liked Maruki as the final villain, despite not being evil. But it would corrupt him completely, after enough time.
You should see what Joker’s Palace would look at Leblanc
There’s already a fan made music theme for the concept of it on TH-cam
Just typed P5 Joker’s Palace.
@@Evil_Beauty you didn’t read the reply.

We all go through bad points in our lives, but what Maruki doesn't understand is that's how we grow as people. We learn from the experince.
But not everyone is strong enough to recover. There are some events you can't recover or grow from under your own strength or anyone's. Those would be helped the most by Maruki's reality.

I honestly think that a reality where wishes come true won't just be hollow, but also generally bad because of bad people having bad ideals.
Jesus, I hate it when they write a villain so good to the point that you questioned yourself if you're doing the right thing
the only inconvenience of that supposed perfect world....its Sumire being erased from the existence for grant Kasumi her existence(it be would be more easier if both sisters are alive)
Why would you hate that? It lets you really think and challenge yourself and your beliefs/morals, It also let’s you become more open minded I feel.

RIP Billy Kametz 🙏🏻
2:42 Sumire looks at Kasumi’s chest
“I can’t seeming catch up to her.”
JDJSJJDJZJEJEJSJ I FEEL BAD FOR LAUGHING
Dr. Maruki is literally the personification of the phrase, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

@@efazchowdhury3866 😭
@@TheRealTact Rest in peace, Billy... Cancer friggin' blows.
RIP Billy :’( he was so talented
Is it me or this seems like what the Jails from P5S is based on?
Also I like Maruki's Japanese voice as an enemy more because he sounds less like a teen there.
Ok but I can hear so much Hubert in Akechi here... it’s kinda unsettling.
Idk.... a world where our desires and dreams are already met... it’s.. heart warming and ... it does make me happy... but..
This palace is just P4 abridged
if Yu heard this he’d just get flashbacks of what happened to him in his ideal reality (P4 animation), he’d would want to take this place down too because it legitimately scared him
What ideal reality? Where the day before Yu leaves Inaba keeps repeating like Edge of Tomorrow? Or when Shadow Mitsuo dragged Yu in a fake world where everyone left Yu behind?
You can draw parallels between Sumire Yoshizawa and Shiki Misaki from The World Ends With You. Both characters were consumed with the idea of giving up the thing they took for granted, their original appearance, to become somebody else, and coming to terms with remembering that came with learning how to be thankful for who you are and how you turned out, despite life giving you a huge turndown. The only difference here is, well, how *death factors:*
Shiki's original appearance was her "entry fee" for the Reaper's Game, and she instead got to look like the person she looked up to and idolized the most in her life. But she had to come to grips with the fact that she could never _be_ her.
Sumire had her cognition of self changed so she could BE her sister and carry on her dreams, but the other side of the coin is that she could forget about _being the person who caused her sister to die._
Yoooo someone else acknowledges twewy's existence!
God bless this comments section it’s a pure 50/50 split of people appreciating Maruki’s character and simping for Akechi
18:33
I think it's really telling that someone with the life and personality of Akechi is literally unable to comprehend someone that just genuinely wants the best for people.
Sumire thought she was better off not existing. "Killing" her sister was just the final nail in the coffin.
13:30 bro starts the fight with megidolaon right out the gate, that’s how you know this man ain’t fucking around.
Maruki is basically Marie but better...
Sorry Marie fans
Technically, wouldn't Violet be the Marie of this game?
@@narutoboy423 I mean Marie wasn't playable and she is a side character but really late of the game you gotta go fight them
Devakyun Violet is more like Aigis.
@@narutoboy423 ... Maruki *and Sumire* are basically Marie but better!
@@imaginternet Marie is barely important to the plot of golden.
Oh hey, Naoto is a doctor now.
Kaiser Where!?
This is a really complicated question. Do you let all your dreams come true with no effort or fight for your future? Know everlasting peace on earth or make your own peace? Banish your darkness from the world or accept it exists because of your light? Be free of pain, but never truly know success? Fix all your problems with a click of a button or live with them and further understand who you are? Geez... this is seriously philosophical and I love it.
akechi in game: black armor made from the dark blood of the guilty.
akechi when you see his costume up close: black silky costume with plastic edgy helmet.
Maruki is just the final boss of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
That is fucked up.
It gets simultaneously better and worse knowing that akechi is essentially just fighting so he can die.
Joker=sonic
Akechi=shadow
random guy who is silver?
@@blueblaze27 probably ryuji
And morgana can be tails
random guy heck, we need the whole damn cast now
ann=amy
Makoto=blaze
Yuskue=espio
Futaba= cream
All i can think so far
It just suddenly hit me that no matter what universe they're in Hubert and Ferdinand will never get along :D
he pulled an Aizen he just slicked his hair back and became the true villain
Now this... this is a giant twist wow
Then you call morgana a handsome guy nice
"Who would be able to cope with that survivor's gult"
Me in my mind :
"what did Vin diesel eat for dinner "
"Survivor's gult because the death of Paul Walker"
You know, I do really love Maruki as a villain...But you gotta admit; his plan, while brilliant, is just a clever twist on the whole "I will destroy Spira! I will save it! If all life were to end in Spira, all suffering would end!" cliché.
I find it Ironic how even as his insane self Akechi still sounds sane as the Black Mask at times
Maruki: You two are not exempt from the people I wish to save. My really can become just the way you like.
Akechi: ... All right. I want HIM to be dead. *Points to Joker *
Joker: *Tells Dr. Maruki that he wants to live*
Maruki: ... Uh...
FIN
I like to imagine that after this is brought up, everything just pauses. The amount of control Maruki has over reality remains the same as he, Joker, Akechi, and an unconscious Sumire remain in the same room for all of eternity waiting for Maruki to find a way to make that reality a possibility
Joker: Checkmate
@@iwantsleep8079 not that hard honestly. He can change akechi's cognition to make him believe joker is dead(like with sumire being kasumi) and joker stays alive. Problem solved as long as maruki can keep joker and akechi apart.
16:04
Akechi : Hahahahahaha
Me : Wow, nice laugh Crow.
So basically Dr. Maruki = Obito Uchiha.
They literally have the same plan and motive.
Hell, even the shadows in his palace all have an Obito mask on them!
"Do you like the reality I created?"
Rem: uh..... * thinks in human morgana*
Also rem: YOU MADE ME FEEL GAY
The kasumi cutsence is actully pretty sad her sister wasn’t having it so she tried to kill herself but than kasumi got killed instead of her sister that’s just so sad tho
She was not trying to die it was a result of her not paying attention
@@Cryptic_Diamond really......or mabye that
I honestly feel bad for Maruki since he just wanted to make reality a better place and have everyone's dreams come true.
Me:*still sleeping*
Mom: 14:22
Joker: “You fucked with my world, you fucked with my friends, you fucked with my girl, but probably the most egregious, YOU FUCKED WITH MY CAT, AND I CAN NEVER FORGIVE THAT”
Also what happen to Bagel Boy Mangana voice? It just tured back into
Greenhaired Morgana
Oh yeah, Morgana originally has the voice of the donut-living swimmer Asahina, then when he becomes human, he has the voice of Nagito, filled with hope bagels.
Danganronpa reference.
@@mystery8820 no its kirito
Probably just an editing error they did'nt catch.
Whats Dr. Maruki's Voice actor again?
It sounds like Jokers, but idk if thats the case.
Billy Kametz. Voice of Ferdinand von Aegir in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Also Naofumi in Shield Hero.
@@mystery8820
Ah! No wonder it felt familiar.
Billy was also Josuke Higashikata in JoJo part 4.
I would have lost it if I didn't hear he was involved with the final semester, the fact his confidant was required, or that aspects of the palace hinted at him
Maruki pulled a Claude Von Riegan with that hair.
So... Aizen transcends genres and platforms to take over Persona 5's storyline? Kyoka Suigetsu is like... busted af.
I know right?!?
Akechi is pissed off, he has no time for bullshit
i called it dude
from the moment atlus released his trailer i did not trust his eyes
Idk what's up with fiction and making psychologists into bad guys, but they sure did a good job with this one
So uhhhh... When the Shadow was changing into Warped Abyss... with the blue ooze from the mask... I'm not the only one that got vibes of the Dramaturgy MV, right?
OHH.
and they say Persona isn't as dark as Main-Line SMT
*In the past*
Maruki: *Explains wanting to make everyone happy*
Me: "Uh, what if people have conflicting interests? You can't make everyone happy if their interests' conflict with each other!"
*2022 me*
Maruki: *Explains wanting to make everyone happy*
Me: "Yeah... things didn't go too well when Mu or Regret tried it, so give up" (Caligula and Caligula 2 reference)
I understood that reference
13:57 why did that sounded like Star Platinum was being summoned?
Dr. Maruki be like "This is the Mugen Tsukuyomi Plan"
P5R Describes in 8 words
*Reality can be whatever I want to be*
Maruki is like Walter white, only thing is that he didn't become fully evil quickly.
The thing about Walter White is that Heisenberg was *always* who he really was (as made clear by his "I'm in the empire business" scene). He didnt "become" Heisenberg, he was just dropping the mask. He's more comparable to Akechi than Maruki
I see. This is what happens when Josuke doesn't wear a pompadour.
Yeah, without a crappy haircut 😏
Seeing Kasumi laying there, bleeding into the ground is unimaginably blighting.
I really hated Akechi in the original game, but I really love him in Royal. I'm glad he gets a lot more screentime.
I like this Maruki boss, it's one of those Anti-Villain stuff
