  • This video is of a trip around the Island of Jura in an inflatable boat during 2022. It was often a windy and wet summer on the west coast but I still managed round a few of the Inner Hebrides

Hi Donny. Thanks very much for the video. I'm in Craighouse for the week with family. It was great to see the west side of the isle which we are unable to explore. Keep up the great videos. Love what youre doing. Thanks, Chris

Aye Donny ye make a rare video! Thanks for sharing your journey and the great commentary.
Got quite interested in the caves there, shame the battery died. Exploring caves is something I stumbled on in Assynt, a friend and I went to Inchnadamph to go hill walking, got there and felt the conditions were not that great and decided to stay on the lower slopes - Oh! Look! an opening in the ground, lets go have a look.
So my friend and I entered one of the caves, he got one of his legs in and said NO, I on the other hand was enthralled and so began long years of exploring the cave of Scotland, a mile underground and digging out silt from the end of a cave, participated in the Scottish Cave Rescue Organisation and did a few practice rescues but was never called out.
Meanwhile back to that first day, driving back to Wick we heard on the radio that the group that had gone up in front of us got swept away in an avalanche with one guy managing to walk back down and raise the alarm

The caves on Jura are not very deep and mostly dry inside Alicatt. Folks used to live in them or some were used to store the dead while transporting them to Orancey priory as they were cool inside.I find traces of old beds etc in some of them. I know the caves you mean at inchnadamph ..a river runs underground through them. Not for me though ..im a big fearty when it comes to things like that.

Great video Donny, I always love how you alter the route with prediction. Something I need to DRILL into my head. Plan plenty of trips to Scotland this year. With be buying a Suzuki Eli 20hp soon. My boat won’t take a 25hp as it’s only 3.8m. It’s also very narrow. I hope to be going to Scotland end of March to run the new engine in before I go to the Jurassic coast. My problem is I live in a MotorHome and work at the same time so I can’t have a trailer. It’s only 30 minutes to set the boat up and the same down. But where can I park that is close to water and my MH be safe. I want to do Loch Awe and Loch Etive. But I think I will do Loch Shield first. I’ve researched a bit but not happy with the results. I know on Loch Shiel in between Bonny Prince Charlie and the church there is a driveway possibly goes down to the Loch. Never drove down there so not sure. But those are my plans. Not all plan go to fruition . Thanks For sharing Ray K YNWA.

We are heading back to Scotland in late March or early April for about a month or so and heading to where I used to live at the bottom end of Loch Lomond, will be glad to get away and relax in Scotland away from the stresses of Belgium.

@@Alicatt1 Loch Lomond was my first day in my Honwave 38ie3. Loved it easy to set off down the slipway and the same back up even with my set up. Hope you enjoy your month.

@@raykeogh1972 I used to live in Balloch and my father kept a boat at what was Tommy Lynn's boat yard on the Leven.
I quite fancy one of those Honwaves and was going to get one for our trip back over, but the wife said no, she wants something with a cabin and that you can sleep in, so change of tack. I've spotted a Hardy Family Pilot 20 with a 75hp outboard and we are discussing about that, it is small enough that I can tow it and it is low enough to get under most of the bridges on the canals here. Insurance and VAT is going to be the awkward bit being a brit in Belgium and a boat registered in the UK. When we are over I'm taking my wife to do a powerboat course along with myself just so she has an idea about what to do, and it will be a refresher for me as I have not had a boat since 2006.

Its a difficult decision where to park Ray.. its why I moved to the area..I can leave the car at home. To be honest..its probably safe parked in most country places ..the biggest problem will be finding a place to park..as more and more folks want to do it .. so in high season everywhere can be full. Nowadays everyone has vans and want free parking and the best places fill quickly..so dont pick holiday weekends and always have several options. In the past I often based myself out of campsite beside the water ..but nowadays even they need booked in advance..its so busy

Such a joy to see another of your videos this evening, thank you Donny! I just loved how you emphasised the lack of human contact, the way the landscape has been left free of any structures whatsoever, untouched by technology...but those wild goats? They look a bit scary!
Mind you, I'm a fan of "cabra", the Spanish goat dish with lots of garlic...
looking forward to the next part of the trip!

Im always ware wary of the feral goats Colin. Mostly they will keep out my way but seldom give ground if I start to approach them> Like any wild animal I suspect they will defend themselves if they feel threatened ...and they run in gangs so it wouldnt be a solitary fight :-D

Lovely video as ever Donny. Might be a silly question but are those wild goats aggressive or timid of humans. We are bringing the motor home and sib up your way in March to have a little adventure of our own

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  ปีที่แล้ว

They are not very aggressive ..but then again..they are certainly not timid goats. I give them their space as I think they will defend themselves if I was considered a threat. Some are large and heavy with huge horns ..so I would not like to test their patience :-D
