    Donny, thanks again for sharing that wonderful, tranquil trip!
    When I was a much younger man, indeed i was just a boy, my father navigated our 32' motor cruiser right to the very head of Loch Tarbert. There were leading marks painted on rocks on the shore, and with a draught of just over 3', we did just graze the bottom a few times as we made our way slowly to the end on the rising tide...to turn round and wend our way back to the deeper waters. It was a tight squezze, but my father loved to rock-hop...me, I prefer deeper water...but all his life he went looking for those rocks which were just below the surface, and we found a few!
    I love Jura, and it was wonderful to see your shots of Barnhill...a special place in my heart. Thank you, and may you have smooth seas to allow you to wander as you wish, and to bring us all the wonder of your travels.

      Hi again Colin ..you appreciate just how shallow it is then ..I have only gone up to the inner basin twice as most times I turn in the big pool where the 90 degree bend is. Hoping to get back there this year too 😀

    Superb as usual Donny. I never get tired of the dramatic shorelines passing, with the sound of the outboard purring in the background. I would love to do that trip with my own wee RIB.

      Thanks Neil ..it is well worth the effort ..assuming the weather holds as it can be a rough exposed sea when the wind gets up :-D

    Great to follow that Donny, I’ve been meaning to ask a question. I plan to do a lot of Scotland this year weather permitting, but on a lot of your video’s you talk about lobster 🦞 farms or fish farms where you slow your speed right down. As you know I am a newbie trying to take in all information as I can. How do you know if your approaching fish farms or lobster baskets? Thanks for sharing Ray K. UK 🇬🇧 YNWA

    • @Alicatt1
      @Alicatt1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are strings of lobster pots on the seabed and a buoy floating somewhere on the surface attached to them, some fishermen use floating lines to attach the buoy to the pots and that is very difficult to see and can be very many meters from the buoy to where it descends to the pot, think on the hight of the tide plus expected wave hight plus a bit more so you have a lot of line somewhere just under the surface waiting to catch the unwary. There is also a habit of fishermen cutting the lines on marker buoys that they think are poaching on their territory, I've had a good few lines cut for marking diving spots and nothing to do with fishing, very annoying!
      You do not want to get your prop tangled with a rope from a pot, it can be a real pain to get off and may severely damage your outboard leg and/or prop.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi ray..allicat has covered the info on the farms etc..just give all the buoys a wide berth as ropes can trip you up. Also learn the rules of the road too .. so you know how to pass other boats and when to give way etc..although my advice is always give way to everything regardless ..then you cant go wrong :-D
