They probably could have been able to do this, just with the hardware limitations back then would've made it difficult to be able to it. They could only have a certain number of sprites on the screen at one time, otherwise they start to "flicker" or "glitch" and the frame rates drop. Running 8-bit games that are ported on to modern, current day hardware however, the possibilites are endless.

I don’t think the solution to the “double fire Mario” situation was making Mario green when he gets the fire flower. That makes things just as confusing 😂
I fondly remember playing this game as a little kid. In fact, when I was growing in my mom's tummy, she often played this game and when Mario would spit out the fire, I would kick. So, I was made on Mario Brothers. I was even Mario for Halloween when I was seven and again last year. I really love Super Mario and how he's evolved over the years.

no collision design is just so good. But star power made player model shine to a misunderstanding state that Luigi is turning into Mario
