Did you loosen the Diawa tension knob so the spool had the same side to side play as the Curado? Cause my 103 with the tension backed off a little from factory and I like it better in distance and skipping than my curado mgl 150. Thanks great video!
I have the daiwa tatula sv 103 and love it even much more than my shimano SLX dc the daiwas just feel better and are more enjoyable to fish with for me.
Respectfully, I have some criticism of some of your methods and practices. 1. The zero adjuster on the tatula sv, zillion can be adjusted. Its a regular old spool tension adjuster. There are inconsistencies in how they come out of the factory. No one should be afraid to adjust it. 2. The shimano counterpart to the Zillion is the Bantam MGL. Not the Metanium. 3. I get the feeling that your not very well aquainted with the inner mechanical workings of this reels. Many of us would love if you took this reels apart and showed the differences in materials used to manufacture the reels. For example the main and pinion gears, compare the gear thooth sizes. Also, mechanically the Daiwa reels have a big advantage over most shimanos thats very obvious but you have never mentioned. That is the fact that shimano reels with their micro module gears end up sacrificing the srength of the gear because there is less metal backing up each individual thooth. Also shimano gears tend to engage at the tips very shallow in comparison to daiwa gears. Daiwa gears are way thicker, stronger due to more material behind each gear and engage deeper. Shimano reels have a tendency to becine "geary" after heavy catches, specially the ones with aluminum gears like the Metaniums. 5. It woukd be nice if once in a while, you tested reels by actually fishing them. Meaning, actually catching fish with them. Regardless. Thank you for your videos. Appreciate all the effort you put in to this. Best of luck.
i would have picked the curado but I rock the curado for my crank bait reel and rock the tatula for throwing soft plastic swim baits and skipping. I do prefer the fit and finish on the tatula by a slight amount.
I feel like Daiwa frames are always that bit bulkier in the hand. They manage to get them to sit nice and low, but the width of them is always an issue for me.
I like them both, but then I'm kinda picky. I'm more interested in putting together the perfect combo for a particular application that works repeatedly. So for light cranking in open water, I love my glass/SV TW103/ straight 12# FC combo. For finesse swimbait/swim jigs in the junk, I love my MH/EF graphite/metanium/ braid to leader. Both are great reels. This reel caught my eye for another application. Great video.
You need to start adjusting the side to side play out of the Daiwas if you want to have creditable cast battles. I know your reasoning is Daiwa zero adjustment but it is still adjustable for a reason.
Just backorderd the miravel spin cast 3000 and will also get the MGL 151HG . I'm Back new in the sort after a 5 year + layoff.and really like the LRS Dougkas rods being a fan of their SGY series fly rod. Any that I should test for finesse resovoir bass and river small mouths.
What are the differences between the SV TW and SV TWS? Both are $210 on Tackle Tarehouse. They have the same line capacity, but the TWS is 1/2oz heavier.
Saw the beginning of your video.. in 2007 I got delivered a demon and baptized in the Holy Spirit all at once. Was so confusing at the time considering I never saw anything like that before nor did I pursue/believe in God. Love to see you putting out truth!!
I know this is an old video now. But I'm looking into getting a JDM Tatula sv 103. Seems like the JDM models have shorter handles. Or are my eyes playing tricks on me? Can't find any specs between the JDM and American market versions. Any help could be great!
If this new curado is anything like my scorpion mgl it’s gonna be 🔥 I wish they would use matching green on their new curado rods though! The green accents on the rods is a totally different green they use for the reels. Really thinking about this new curado paired with one of the new curado rods. Or paired with one of the new st croix victory rods 🤔
For the Curado 150 MGL what would be a good internal and external brake setting for someone newer to baitcasters and throwing a 1/2 crank bait to prevent backlashes?
What works for some else may not work for you. I’d recommend 3 on internal. External high and then come down. Eventually you may want to lower to two internal. Only way to figure out what you can control is by casting it yourself..
For me reels with different applications. Elite is a long cast reel, more line capacity, a great all arround reel. SV TW is more friendly, better in windy situations because it has great control, great with light lures too!
Have a question for you and I think that you are the most qualify person to ask about this. I've just got a new aldebaran bfs and that reel i mostly use for casting cranks after perch. Would you spool it with braid or fluorocarbon? Or maybe even mono? 😊 tight lines!
This is not only a question of the reel. You have to take the combination between rod and reel into consideration. Normally, I would suggest going with Fluoro. Why? It sinks which helps getting the bait to it’s intended depth. What are the characteristics of the rod? Is it a glass rod with a slow action and great bend? Is it a graphite rod with a more regular to regular-fast action? Braid as well as Mono floats. This prevents the bait reaching its maximum depth. Braid has no stretch at all, Fluoro has a bit stretch and Mono has a lot of stretch. If your rod is slow, you can work the fish with your rod even when your line has no stretch. Remember, these are treble hooked baits and the mouth of a perch is quite delicate. You surely won‘t rip the bait out of its mouth due to a system that is too stiff. In a nutshell….either Fluoro or Brais to Fluoro, leader, depending on the characteristics of your rod.
I would start out with mono, and then work up to flouro. Braid is overkill for BFS in my opinion and I hate tying leader knots, especially with line that small
6 brakes on that Tatula is pretty consistent with what i use most of my lures. Cool to see both are pretty good on distance. The crank is a good choice as most people DO NOT KNOW that not all casting reels are created to cast light lures, especially cranks (fall is here btw). what I would like to see (which is difficult) is casting strength. which one could cast the furthest using the lightest amount of power. I haven't figure that one out yet... maybe you have some ideas
yeah 6 is good.. I was bombing those cheap little frogs that you had on your channel with the blade out the back on 5 the other day with not thumbing hardly at all and they went super far I could not believe how well my tatula sv was casting them... I think it also depends on your line and a lot on your rod and the way the guides are on it. Love the tatula SV 103!
easy answer on that, out of all the reels with different braking systems Ive tried, the MGL Spooled SVS Infinity Shimanos cast the farthest with the least amount of effort. DC reels are a close 2nd. You can overshoot your target with a flick of the wrist. If you can get your hands on one, try the Metanium MGL.
I have a suv two 103 and I like it better than my metanium, lews custom lite, Abu Garcia Revo SX, and curado k. Maybe I suck at casting them but it seems like the Daiwa was more enjoyable to fish.
@@fredfunk5150 daiwa does better all around especially in the wind. I think it's funny he don't ever show adjusting the brakes he just claims they are set up the same and that's B's. Because the daiwa cast alot farther than what he was doing

When i got it back there was now a note in the box that said "reel fixed and lubed and no sounds" i was happy and went out to fish and the same sound was back with a vengence.. i got my money back from the local fishing store and i ordered the new Zillion Daiwa 21 Zillion SV TW 1000 JDM. When i got it i rushed out to fish and guess what. the same noice just a bit softer was in the new zillion.. at this point after 11 weeks since i went to get a new reel i just gave up and got my money back. I wrote about it on swedish facebook fishing groups and many people had the same problem and i am never ever getting a Daiwa again,
Well imo it’s been tough for Daiwa to keep up with demand. They’re trying to do the best they can right now especially with Covid going on. I’ve had some really bad issues with my Shimano reels lately which may be due to the same reason but I’ve had issues with them even before covid lol

Curado mgl vs scorpion mgl which one is better
Maybe on the water they’ll be different with the Lin ending wet it’ll react differently with the line being more slippery
In you opinion which would you choose for best all around slx dc or curado k?
hard to pick, the Curado K is smoother but with braid the SLX DC will cast farther
