Similar to one of his roast jokes at Gilbert Godfried when he said, "You look like you smell like pee".
His Artie jokes were classic Giraldo. He deserved so much more success.
Artie told a story about Greg and him doing a roast -- I think it might have been this one. Greg was coming down from cocaine or something really bad on the flight over, and Artie hooked him up... Greg was having a panic/anxiety attack. Then Artie mentioned it was ridiculously funny that Greg was going hard with some drug jokes aimed at him just hours later.

Greg was always the most talented and savage roaster on the early GOOD Comedy Central Roasts. Sad the great comics die and we get stuck with the left overs.

That dead dad joke is still one of my fav all time roast jokes, and I usually hate it when guys go dark like the Artie Dad jokes. But even Gary admitted that was a well crafted joke and appreciated it.
Greg prob wrote those jokes in the cab ride over to the studio.

Maybe a few of them but Nick Dipaolo has said Giraldo wrote religiously and heavily prepared.

Greg's on-stage brilliance had a dark side........it also tortured him when he was off-stage, in his private moments. A brilliant, tortured, talented SOB who was tormented by a sense of failure. I wish he could have kept his nose clean, because I'd have paid any amount to see him live in the first row. Now I'll never have the chance 😢. Rest in peace my friend, we miss you so much. Me most of all.

You obviously haven't seen Ross's earlier roasts. Jerri Stiller, Drew Carrey, Rob Reiner. Absolutely legendary. Everything he's done since the Trump roast is garbage though.
Also, Ross on the Emmitt Smith roast was one of the best performances in comedy history.
Everybody looked at him in awe and admiration of his talent. Truly missed.

He did have his own sitcom back in the mid 90’s. It was on ABC. It got canceled after a few episodes. ABC/Disney didn’t promote it as well as they could have

@@Tarmac76 Heres the backstory: Howard was supposed to attend the wake for Gary's dad, but apparently his wife Beth hurt her ankle at the last minute so they couldn't go. Most people thought he was bullshitting and he just didn't want to go. Gary's mom died and the same thing happened but he was "too sick" to make it that time. It's just his MO to bail on people lol
