    2023 BMW XM review! The 2023 BMW XM is controversial: it's a bit odd-looking, it's massively expensive, and it's very heavy. Today I'm reviewing the XM, and I'm going to show you the quirks and features of this ultra-luxury high-performance SUV. I'm also going to drive the XM, and I'll show you what it's like behind the wheel of the new BMW XM.

    2 interesting points: This is based on the X7 chassis but this drives small. I had some time behind the wheel, and it was amazing that it's full sized on the outside but performs and handles much smaller. It doesn't defy physics in the Twisties though. Also about the headliner... in a day where OEMs are doing pano roofs, this is solid with no sunroof.

    Doug: "The touchscreen is tremendously responsive. "
    Two seconds later: Shows how dogshit it's responsiveness is as everything he presses takes literally seconds to respond.
    Honestly, this is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to new cars. I can't understand how a car that costs an arm and a leg can't match the responsiveness of a smartphone that costs $199.

    • @xXxStoudemire1xXx
      @xXxStoudemire1xXx ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@nick407 To expand on this. In the case of iDrive and a lot of other OEMs infotainment systems, they are doing more and more based on old platforms like WindowsCE which hasnt been supported by Microsoft since 2010! Then you have the fact that these vehicles require automotive grade chips, which are expensive if you want the latest and greatest, so they cheap out on them. Very expensive to build an entirely new more optimized OS while trying to maintain compatibility with all the axillary systems connected to said OS. The new infotainment systems that are actually responsive (E.g. Tesla, Rivian, lucid), are more optimized. Manufacturers are now starting to switch to linux based platforms including Android Automotive OS (not to be confused with Android Auto) which should increase responsiveness even when using older chips. The next iDrive, iDrive 9 will be android. Hopefully BMW secures better chips.

    Worth pointing out. The first press release model of this car design was quite a bit different than this. It was basically an over exaggerated example of all the design effects on the production car. They just pulled it back by like 2 notches to make it more generic. Here in Singapore which is known for like ~200% taxes on cars (comprising of import excise tax (but until Hyundai's EV factory opens here, we don't make any cars here, so this probably isn't considered protectionism) & the euphemistically called 100+% "Additional Registration Fee" (ARF)), the XM also has the dubious honour of being the 1st BMW to cost over S$1m here (~US$730k), also because we've changed the ARF from being a flat rate to one that exponentially increases with the car's pre-tax price, & recently we've hiked that tax further by steepening that exponential curve. Also I was thinking if the XM will legally need to be fitted with a 60km/h (~37mph) speed limiter here as its weight exceeds 2.5t (~5500lb), which might push it up into the same category as medium-duty trucks e.g. Mercedes Benz Atego, Ford F350, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter/Fighter. In that case you might also need a Class 4(A) (heavy commercial vehicles) instead of a Class 3(A/C) (cars/vans/lorries/light trucks) driving license
