Thanks Doug for showing us that BMW needs help. Makes the price of a Tesla model x plaid look good. Save 40-50K and get 1020 horsepower and hardly ever need service. Let us know how many of these they sell. Nice video. Thx again.
Save yourself 6 figures and get an Explorer ST. Intercooler and ethanol tune and they are making power with sub 5 second 0-60 like this for literally hundreds of thousands of $ less. They have heated and cooled front and rear seats, driver and passenger massage seats, lane centering (partial self driving), lane keep assist, cross traffic alerts, self parking, remote start, 360 camera, awd, stock ground effects, multiple driving modes... It's literally a no brainer for the power, features, and price. NO lie, for $160k+ SUV, I better have a PS5 and screens in my head rests.
I feel like I've been transported to a world of pure elegance and sophistication. Thank you for sharing this remarkable masterpiece, I can't stop watching it!
I was in shock when I first saw this BMW XM. I had never even heard of this vehicle before. I sat in it and it was very comfortable. My only problem with the XM is that it's a plug-in hybrid. A regular hybrid version would be cheaper and better for me.
Adding hybrid components and all that weight for no additional horsepower or even torque compared to other M BMWs is just as strange as some of their recent designs...
That is just because of European (at least) regulations. Such a car with a pure V8 engine without plug-in system would cost extra €50.000 environment taxes
In regards to the comparison with the Tesla (0-60). I personally think this car is waaaay better in terms of feeling while driving (still not being driven) no matter it's slower. I'd defilitely get it with priority 😍
Does anyone else think the KL Jeep Cherokee(5th gen pre-facelift) was a pioneer in the 2 piece head light like found on the XM and many other vehicles now? I remember being so confused on the design of the Cherokee when it first came out, and now you see it on many models. ( Hyundai, new Trailblazer, ect)
Everyone said that was ugly. I liked it and thought it looked cool and different, now everyone is copying it and the Cherokee is going to die with a boring generic face. There's some irony
That headliner design is called "dazzle camouflage." Ships from WW2 were painted like that to confuse the enemy. Great use in this vehicle to confuse you over the price and performance of this technological terror.
BMW had a bunch of XMs at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and I thought the car looked fine - weird but okay weird - in person and in certain colors. I think the gold trim is the one thing that can make the car a little jarring appearance-wise, especially if it's paired with, say, green paint and the black shadowline nose. I'm glad BMW took some risks with the XM but the price for this type of vehicle is for the Miami Beach / Dubai crowd
The absence of the lip in the trunk makes loading and, especially, unloading items easier as these can be slid out, not requiring lifting to get over the lip/sill
I like that BMW does somthing different with the design...however, my first car was a E46 coupe and now I drive an E92 coupe and looking at these cars, I kinda miss those times.
Checking into this a year later - you can find dealers trying to give these things away. There's a dealer in NJ selling an 2023 XM with < 10k miles on it for HALF of its original MSRP.
I imagine it's down to picking the correct colors. White seems to not be the best option here as it's high contrast with the black trim which makes it seem more pronounced
Almost all modern BMWs have launch control. Put it in sport mode, gear shifter in manual mode, and turn off traction control. Mash the brake all the way then the same with the throttle. I wish Doug would use that in all of the BMW reviews because it is a lot of fun to do
*What I find extremely stupid and ironic is that they claim this is a dedicated M car like the M1 of old and there’s no standard version of this car.* *Yet there’s a “Label Red” version that adds power, therefore making this the standard version of the car.*
BMW's current design philosophy is straight up insulting. They are receiving almost unanimous feedback that we hate it, yet they keep doubling down. BMW used to be about understated styling, so you could have race car levels of performance without everyone knowing. That thing is an abomination and an eye sore.
For the price I'd definitely get the Escalade V instead. More power, quicker, bigger interior, nicer interior (personal opinion), excellent exterior styling, and so on so forth.
backseat needs more options, it has climate, and heated back seats for this price point. I know it's built for perfomance and i do agree with Doug, if you want Luxury, get X5 or X7 but for $160,000...
I feel like this SUV has no real purpose especially starting at $160K. BMW ALREADY HAS the X5M and X6M Competition versions if one is seeking a ‘Performance’ SUV and both are already well over $100K. BMW could have easily made hybrid or electric versions of those performance SUVs, but to create a ‘new’ version and they already put out there about an upcoming 700+ HP makes zero sense to most car enthusiasts. These car manufacturers are just making insanely expensive cars just to see who would be silly enough to buy it 😮

@@ikhoonyejelem2967 I'm a massive BMW fanboy and I own two of their vehicles. But I also have eyes, and they aren't liking the absolute piece of garbage Doug is reviewing.
For how 3xpensive it is I would expect thease types of materials for the interior but I feel like there are some design aspects that had missed opportunity. Just by witnessing this video I can't say I would buy one new. Or used. Its very well designed but the exterior is a 7 out of 10 in my book. This is because of the headlights. I would prefer if they hid the headlights into the grill and just made it so the turn signals flashed. But when it comes to the hazards have it pul3s. The rear badge. It's a cool quirk. But in the end a central hidden badge in the middle would probably be cooler. The cars performance isn't bad. It's OK. But with the Yukon and GMC suburban I feel like you can easily get the same performance with a bolt on kit and a tune. For a fraction of the price. If they had a hybrid version and a none hybrid version I think the none hybrid would take off better. And more people would buy them. The windows don't match the design angles. For how angular they went they didn't commite and because of the lack of commitment. If they had harsher angles and made it so they had rear climate controls for the passenger and intigrated it into the headliner in the sane way the exterior looks I feel like it would be a better sale mostly because your not looking down to adjust climate your looking up at the ceiling were the geometric design. The LED interior lights don't flow. You want to lights of the interior to give off how it feels to drive. Since it's sporty when the driver steps on the gas I would hope to see the lights get brighter or dim to give off the feeling of focus. Or implementing a feeling of power being diverted to the engine and power train. If they lowered it and designed it to be more like a big luxury wagon I feel like it would not just handle better but accelerate faster. Its great for the suburban family that lives an expensive life and for the soccer dad that wants some performance in all the cars they drive. Not really for the doctor that likes sports cars and needed an SUV because he has children. I'd say you would get better for a suburban and have more fun because it's more versatile and can easily be tuned to have similar power specs. If you have money to burn then get this or the ururs or the audie

Love doug but i hate his scoring system, how the hell is this placed above a G63 AMG? That car looks 10× better, is much more luxurious, is nowhere near as controversial, and has the benefit of being able to offroad very well. Something is wrong here

I would buy the x5m over this any day. This simply doesn't fulfill it's purpose and seems like it is an afterthought, built for compliance.
I got to say, I love the way it looks. When this showed up in my notifications, I skipped it. I mean oh goody another SUV. But when I saw the thumbnail, today, I said 'that's a beamer!?' I think it looks badass.
Thanks Doug for showing us that BMW needs help. Makes the price of a Tesla model x plaid look good. Save 40-50K and get 1020 horsepower and hardly ever need service. Let us know how many of these they sell. Nice video. Thx again.
XM sucks but not nearly enough to make me buy a Tesla🤮
XM: Xtra Monstrous
Underrated comment😂
This was definitely filmed outside Scottsdale Fashion Square! Loved to hear your thoughts, Doug. Hefty price tag for the performance.
If no one else has already mentioned this. I really appreciate the team doing the conversions from old imperial to metric systems. Thanks!
Doug: at 6:18 the weird beak nose at the front that's way too long.....
This is in NO WAY a URUS competitor.
They'd need to make a special X6M RED LABEL and even then, all you'd have is an expensive "BMW".
Not a Lambo...
The contrast between the M badging and the rear seat that seems taken straight from the 80's Caddy is hilarious.
I think the same about the interior combination of colours.
I thing Doug owns BMW stock, he was very 'nice' with his review of this Pontiac Aztek type monstrosity.

Tha amount of detail that is done for the indicators. Knowing they will never be used😂
saw this in person and it definitely stands out.
Sure it does. If I'm gonna wear pants on my face and walk like that thru city, I'm gonna stand out too
This thing looks like it should barely be $110K, MAYBE $125K at the most.

yes, the shit era, indeed.
I can see the depreciation curb diving faster than anything else, especially with the hybrid power train
This whole vehicle just feels unnecessary. You just look at and say "why?" It's not interesting at all
Only heated rear seats in a 160k car?! Ridiculous. There should be heating, cooling and massage at that price
I think the design looks good because it is so different
Doug is interested in cars as much as he is interested in what type of people buy these cars
There is something about Doug Demuro that makes even the most awkward cars look appealing and beautiful when reviewed on his channel.
It's Doug Demuro's cadence
@@marin1419 Absolutely
In regards to the comparison with the Tesla (0-60). I personally think this car is waaaay better in terms of feeling while driving (still not being driven) no matter it's slower. I'd defilitely get it with priority 😍
Does anyone else think the KL Jeep Cherokee(5th gen pre-facelift) was a pioneer in the 2 piece head light like found on the XM and many other vehicles now? I remember being so confused on the design of the Cherokee when it first came out, and now you see it on many models. ( Hyundai, new Trailblazer, ect)
I was just thinking about that yesterday. Definitely agree
Instead of flexing with this car one will reveal his ignorance and stupidity instead.
Based on appearance this look like $80,000 vehicle
I love it. I don't love the faster version with all of the red trim. I also don't love the price on both. 😊
Checking into this a year later - you can find dealers trying to give these things away. There's a dealer in NJ selling an 2023 XM with < 10k miles on it for HALF of its original MSRP.
I saw one a month before they went on sale. They look insane
Insanely bad?
@@aaz1992 I like it. The one I saw was a gray/gold color combo
@@jacobrohlinger9038 i like gold
I imagine it's down to picking the correct colors. White seems to not be the best option here as it's high contrast with the black trim which makes it seem more pronounced
“I think this looks better than the Urus” ok Stevie Wonder.
He’s clearly blind
Exactly.. i mean we know he loves European cars but come on.. better looking than Urus? That's just BS
Calling this visual atrocity an "XM" is literally like pissing on the grave of André Citroën.
I loved the design! It makes my cheap shoes look elegant and expensive.
Almost all modern BMWs have launch control. Put it in sport mode, gear shifter in manual mode, and turn off traction control. Mash the brake all the way then the same with the throttle. I wish Doug would use that in all of the BMW reviews because it is a lot of fun to do
In case it fails, I guess they would rather not have the big BMW badge on the car.
I understand them.
*What I find extremely stupid and ironic is that they claim this is a dedicated M car like the M1 of old and there’s no standard version of this car.*
*Yet there’s a “Label Red” version that adds power, therefore making this the standard version of the car.*
What’s stupid is that they named this the *XM* and it’s not even faster than the x5m or x6m lol
@@BabyKobeeee that too

I don't think the Citroen XM looked too bad. It was a strange car, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly.
Is that a air bag behind the screen? 10:36
BMW's current design philosophy is straight up insulting. They are receiving almost unanimous feedback that we hate it, yet they keep doubling down. BMW used to be about understated styling, so you could have race car levels of performance without everyone knowing. That thing is an abomination and an eye sore.
and it sells better than ever
@@PaulTC97 It's probably short term man. They may be turning off a lot of their fans who could have bought later, just for some revenue now.
@@billmartin4093 but theres lots of chinese new money buyers that love this big imposing cars... sadly
For the price I'd definitely get the Escalade V instead. More power, quicker, bigger interior, nicer interior (personal opinion), excellent exterior styling, and so on so forth.

A BMW starting at anything near 160k is nothing short of insane
I feel like this SUV has no real purpose especially starting at $160K.
BMW ALREADY HAS the X5M and X6M Competition versions if one is seeking a ‘Performance’ SUV and both are already well over $100K.
BMW could have easily made hybrid or electric versions of those performance SUVs, but to create a ‘new’ version and they already put out there about an upcoming 700+ HP makes zero sense to most car enthusiasts.
These car manufacturers are just making insanely expensive cars just to see who would be silly enough to buy it
😮
This is what the Aztek would have looked like if it came out in 2023
Lol yep
This was definitely made for someone who is interested in the G63, and Urus but want to stand out a little bit more.

One of the few cars that if I see it on the road, i will say “they wasted their money”.
Looks like Doug is driving a party bus/limo with the headliner and led lighting.
