Nevada Highway Patrol's fastest-speed speeding ticket for the year 2019 was handed to Aaron Snyder of Henderson, Nevada late at night on June 16, a bit over a year ago. At the time, Snyder was wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the word "THRILLS." How appropriate.
If you have been watching Real World Police lately - and, come on, we both know you have - you might remember Deputy Sheriff Felipe Perez. He was the guy who thought - incorrectly, on that occasion - that his badge would summarily excuse a 134 MPH run in his Hellcat. While his child was in the backseat. Mr. Sheriff Perez had also neglected to put license plates on his car. Perez was cited for 134 MPH.
Depending on how closely you paid attention to the Perez video, you might also be aware that the Deputy's charge was amended downward. Significantly. What began as "Speeding 41+ MPH Over Posted Speed Limit" ended up as a parking ticket.
But there was more to the story. Our investigation found that Deputy Perez did not get special treatment in having his super-high-speed-speeding-ticket turned into a no-speed-at-all parking ticket. That's the norm. As long as you actually show up or even phone the Justice Court, you, too, can get just about any Nevada Highway Patrol speeding ticket amended to a non-moving violation.
The catch? Only the crime changes. Your fine - which is technically a "bail forfeiture," since moving violations in Nevada are criminal offenses - stays the same. Which is why Deputy Perez's parking ticket cost him a cool $706, plus the time and expense of traffic school.
Aaron Snyder's 155 MPH encounter with the highway patrol earned him the belt as 'fastest-speed speeder [caught by NHP] in 2019, but - despite the obvious moving violation, Snyder's citation was amended much the same as Perez's: it turned into a parking ticket. In fact, Snyder came out ahead of Perez in his wallet and on his speedometer. Snyder was given a mandatory court date, and the court determined that an appropriate penalty was $255. Total.
Some might point out that he hired an attorney. It is not clear, however, that the attorney made any difference beyond Snyder not having to personally show up in court.
Notes:
(a) Although Snyder was 'only' cited for 98 MPH, the citation also reads "Actual Speed: 154 MPH." In the video, however, Trooper Provost states many times that he clocked Snyder at 155. Those claims notwithstanding, the citation's brief narrative states that the radar-clocked speed was 153 MPH. I don't know the reason for the discrepancies.
(b) On October 1, 2019, Nevada Assembly Bill 434 went into effect, reforming - a bit - the state's approach to traffic violations. The new law states that for someone arrested for a violation of Nevada’s traffic laws, “…there is a presumption that the person should be released on his or her own recognizance.” This presumption doesn't apply to arrests for reckless driving, vehicular manslaughter, DUI; or if the person willfully refuses to pay court-imposed obligations and refuses to perform community service to satisfy a court-imposed obligation; or if the court finds that releasing the person “…would substantially jeopardize public safety.”

I got pulled over 20 years ago on a sport bike flying well over 125. Trooper Jackson (I'll never forget his name) treated me with respect, gave me a ticket for 88 in a 65, and gave me some valuable wisdom. I did some serious reflection and sold the sport bike and got a Harley. Trooper Jackson probably saved my life. Utmost respect. I pray he is well and wished I could tell him "Thank you"

@@Ervin2v I highly doubt that adds enough weight to slow it down... 100LBS added to your car equals one tenth added in a quarter mile e/t time. 150 minus 133 equals 17. So 17 mph difference.. That's a HUGE difference when talking small gadgets, a gun and small equipment. Now for every full second in a quarter mile equals about 10 mph roughly. So I would assume torque (faster time to "top" out) due to engine performance by buying the right sh*t for the Charger is the root of this mathematical problem here verses the weight of a couple small items you listed.. Rule #1, understand what a "sleeper" is on the highway and you'll understand math like a pro....
If he knows that it tops at 133 then that's the govenor of the car stopping it going any faster. Maybe newer models hit 150 but he obviously knows his car

This guy played it smart. Didn't argue, didn't play the fool for the cops. He hired the attorney not to dispute anything. He pays the ticket. The attorney then keeps it off his driving record so the guy's insurance company never knows. The guy just has to not get a moving violation for 60-90 days, usually 60 from my experience. Clean record.

I got pulled over after moving back to the states from Germany. Explained to the cop that I had been living over there for a few years and got used to doing 150mph on a regular basis. He was sympathetic and I got off with a warning. Definitely slowed down after learning what the potential punishments were.

For everyone saying "it's because he's white", I'm black and have been pulled over by Florida highway patrol at 144mph. He chewed me out, put me in cuffs, and searched my car... But then he gave me a warning because he says that he'd have to arrest me by law and since I don't have a record he didn't want to mess up my record since I was in college. Not all cops are jerks. I don't know if Nevada law differs, but at least from my knowledge where I live possession of alcohol or a handgun under the age of 21 is illegal, and if the alcohol is open (even if you're over 21) in your vehicle, it will most likely be confiscated. This dude seemed cool as hell, obviously worried and excited to start, but as he assessed the situation he was very collected. This kid should thank the officer for being so rational. Also props to him and his gf for both being very calm and reasonable.

A few things to note:
1) The driver was a young male with a loaded firearm, driving with an open container and drugs while underage
2) He could have fled the police exhausting resources in a vehicle that they could not apprehend on ground in a high speed chase (vehicle speed limitations)
3) He could have pulled his firearm on the officer initiating the traffic stop
4) He did none of the above, which is why he did not get shot and did not get arrested...although I don’t necessarily agree with not taking his license for accelerating to 155 on a state highway.

Here's my own expample. I was on my way home for a four day leave before deploying, while in the military. I was driving my car home and flying back. I was traveling from California to Michigan, trying to make time and heading through a very rural and flat part of the country, Illinois. The speed limit was also 65 and I was clocked at 139 about half way through the state. I was pulled over in a construction zone, so there was nowhere to run. After the initial cop pulled me over, he waited in his car until about ten more cruisers surrounded my car. They then got out, guns drawn, and ordered me out of the vehicle with a damn bullhorn. They wanted to take me to jail, take my licence on the spot, and fine me something like $2000. I was calm, honest, and polite the entire time, but they weren't having it. Lol At the end of it all, I only had to pay $200 and that was for a lawyer to get me out of the rest. The only reason I was able to do that, stay out of jail, and keep my licence, was because I was in the military and about to deploy. Illinois is an anal state for that though and I don't even want to know what would've happened if I'd also had weed, an open container, AND an unregistered fire arm with me as well. Realistically, most cops, in most places, would had nailed you for that though.

I’ve been caught doing these speeds before. It was 2AM and nobody on the road aside from the cop on the shoulder. I pulled over right in front of him he never even put his lights on. Friendly guy and even let me sit in his cruiser with him because it was 32 out an I was on the bike. Ended up with a warning for speed.
This highway seems busy though. I purposefully went out to a highway nobody uses and has a 5 mile straight. I told him I waited for no cars to be around and wanted to check out how fast the bike would go. He told me that saved my ass that night.

Bruh, one time I was in my Lexus ES350, and I was going clean over 120 mph when I past a state trooper. When I tell you the way my heart dropped, I felt like I was going to jail. I immediately decelerated to 70, so the trooper could catch up to me. I looked at him through my rear view mirror, and I swear to god I was as pale as a ghost. He must’ve been the nicest state trooper ever, because he rode my tail all the way until we past an exit, then he just simply left through the exit. I was FREE!! I can relate. I was doing 84 or 81mph in a 45 mph, but I didn’t run from the cop. She was a white cop, only gave me a ticket, and let me go home. Here in Georgia they had just passed a super speeders law, and it could’ve been really bad for me. All I had to do was community service at a recreational center cleaning up, pay about $600 for my lawyer, and wait a year for my court date, and nothing is on my record because of that.
