First startup and 20 minute cam break-in of my freshly rebuilt air-cooled Porsche 911SC 3.0L CIS engine. Had a few buddies over to have more eyes and ears on the car while I monitored the break-in.
I had a surprise vacuum leak that caused an initially lean mixture but I was able to richen enough to get it to run smoothly for the event. Lesson learned: smoke test your CIS engine before the first startup so you don't have any surprise vacuum leaks.

Joe... I cant thank you enough for all your videos and how detailed they are. I'm literally less than a week away from starting my newly rebuilt 1983 911sc 3.0 engine. This has been a year in the making. I've been in my garage rebuilding, what seems to be every frikin part on this car..... I'm super stressed about the 20 min break in also... Installing my engine this weekend. Just like you I won't hook up axles and other parts just incase it has to come out again...... anyways, thanks again for all your videos.. the vacuum line video helped me huge. Cheers from Canada dude.

Thanks- I will pull the wheel and look to see if the bolt hole is there. I just finished installing 2 new brackets in the front right wheel well. My mechanic gave it back to me with the pipes wacking the power antenna shaft when the car hit a bump.
Luckily I am a pretty good mechanic too, but I did not chance removing and fixing this “aircraft “ engine....

    Happy Easter Joe,
    Quick question.
I noticed the brace or bracket that holds your oil lines in the right rear wheel well.(directly over rear axle plane on the 2 metal oil pipes)
Mine is missing. Is this stock or did you make/add the bracket?
I looked on pelican parts and found one, but it is the one for the front and seems too wide.
If you have a part number let me know (for the bracket and attachment bolts/spacer washer etc. yours looks new so maybe you have the paperwork with the numbers...thanks

I think the OE one is part number 91120730300. Mine was on the car when I got it. Someone took a thick piece of flat aluminum bar stock (about 1/8" thick) and bent it to fit both oil lines in that spot.

Can you include a how to on the vacuum sample test? I’m currently hunting down a leak in my ‘80 SC

Will do. I have some smoke test footage from the tuning phase.

I have a quick question for you about the 915 trans. When you’re rolling at low speed,
Maybe 5mph and in neutral, do you have trouble putting it in first gear? My car has to stop to go back into 1st gear or it grinds. Is this normal?

Mine is like yours. Must stop before putting into 1st. I believe this is normal.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. The other day, on the highway, I threw the clutch in in 5th gear. Stopped at a light, then tried to pull out of 5th and go to first. It Didn’t want to come out of 5th.
I tugged it a couple times and it came out…anything like that happen to you? Any ideal what that might be?
