Granted, the last thing CJ wanted to get even more high after the farm went up so it makes sense. I only ever remember him telling T-Bone, after being searched per Toreno's request, that he had a dub in his wallet and that it better be still be there. That's the only time it's mentioned that CJ smokes iirc
I think honestly part of it is the art style, funny aspects and meme worthy details as well as the incredibly relatable social themes and environment, story which can get us interested because it explores very real issues like gang life and crime, drugs, government conspiracy etc. Even family death, poverty espcially within racialized and gentrified poor black communities and even friendship drama and lessons around friendships and relationships in general. It's a very interesting game that even though it is a absurd parody, it's relatable to our real world and lives. I think that's what makes GTA and GTA SA special in general. GTA IV being the more depressing realistic take on our real life society. GTA V being very hollywood action movie esque and feeling like a thrill ride or like your in a movie featuring bank heisters in L.A or Hollywood and or California.
The Chappelle Show taught me what "Wet"was. The episode with Wayne Brady. He made Dave hit the joint and then said "I didn't know you liked to get wet". That PCP. 😂😂😂
To me Ryder was somewhat of a tragic character. He was self medicating, numbing his anxiety maybe even pain. The drugs gave him more confidence but inevitably made him fall apart even more. He became childish, jealous and irrational. You can see him using through all the cutscenes, always wearing his sunglasses. His addiction was just there for us to see.
The main thing that makes people believe on the fallout is the lack of mention on rider when he was pushing the green saber, and the lack of mention from cesar basically he was only acknowledged as a traitor much later than it made sense, cj and cesar saw him and both just said smoke's name, if there was no falling out, then its just a failure in the writer's part, which makes it seen that he was not meant to be a traitor
Its because Ryder was not meant to betray Grove Street at all, its also why all his post appearences from Green Sabre are so weirdly broken and forced, splicing existing lines.

I was 15 when I first played San Andreas and I knew Ryder was a shermhead because I had a few family members who were addicted to it. Sad that I knew the effects of it on people from a young age, even though I didn't know what sherm actually was.

Made sense to me they introduce this dude literally cooking Sherm(PCP) a detail people not aware of the drug life would miss right away. The minute i saw that and the fact that ALL his missions don't pay shit I knew he was gonna fuck us over.

Whether he was meant to be a traitor or not, either way, it still doesn't change the fact that Ryder's betrayal was poorly written since he's all of a sudden relegated to an unimportant minor character halfway through the storyline. I wouldn't have minded Ryder becoming a traitor had they made his betrayal more impactful of the storyline and his motives much clearer. That's one of the problems I have with Rockstar. They tell a lot more than they show. It's a shame how one of the most iconic characters in the game got so much wasted potential.
Nah, thats just the pace of the story. Ryder was never meant to be a major character like smoke, Ryder was more like a minion to smoke nothing about Ryder indicated that he was a more pivotal figure to the overall story of San Andreas. Ryder is just a memorable character for us but he was always small time.

What was even the point of his existence in the game if he wasn't an important character? Even OG Loc of all characters played a more important role than Ryder in the story. I really hate that Rockstar remove these cutscenes from the final game. I mean the depth it adds to the story is on the level of GTA IVs quality at points. I mean this really is the most clear cut explanation for ryders betrayal.
All these cutscenes and voice lines are in the game. It's just the way rockstar makes their stories, characters are constantly doing things you never question until someone explains it like this
The fact that they removed it adds a great value to the afterlife of the game,, all the research behind voice lines, missions , removed objects,, it allows people to piece stuff together, build conspiracies, it keeps the game alive years later
And if you go behind the counter in pizza stack the employees are wearing Jordan 3s. Rockstar always sneaks real world shoes on to some character pc models in every gta game. I don’t know if they ever expected us to notice.

Ryder was decidedly going to betray CJ and GSF from a certain point mid-development, you can see that through the beta(s). The problem is that Rockstar changed when and how the betrayal happened quite far in, and didn't get MC Eiht to record any voicelines past the ones they'd already gotten. hence the following: - the noticeable shoehorning in of Ryder in the Green Sabre scene. - no betrayal being mentioned til the mission "Photo Opportunity". - chopped up/reused dialogue during Pier 69. - T-Bone's anticlimactic death, due to using the animations originally meant for Ryder, which also meant some of T-Bone's voice lines were cut too. it's pretty cut and dry, really. either they were clueless about what to do with his character after Los Santos, or they couldn't be arsed to pay/get in MC Eiht for more dialogue and they just cobbled together the hodge-podge dogshit that we see in the final game that makes absolutely no sense. (edit: just to clarify for those who care, "The Introduction" was made AFTER the game released. so anything you can take away from it is completely irrelevant)

The entire story would be so much better if Ryder's pointless ass was taken out entirely. He's the most pointless character of the entire game and had no importance at all. He ruined the entire first half of the game for all of us by dragging it all down. If Ryder was just taken out of the game altogether, then the storyline would be perfect.
@toystory4ever95 You spend the first half of the story trying to rebuild ties in GSF after CJ left all those 5 years, if he ruined the game for you, then say that instead of adding "all of us". Ryder's personality, despite him being a jerk to CJ is why he's memorable including the missions you would do for him. He plays the role of the helper during the tutorial for new players as well, like when they go to the army base to steal crates or target practice at Emmett's.

San Andreas story still mirrors civilization too this day; my dad was apart of the gang culture in Canada during the 90's-00's and the RCMP at the time would be the ones trafficking the drugs through the borders and they'd only distribute to people that were medically diagnosed with schizophrenia; fast foward to a few years ago my older brother wanted to make our dad proud by following his footsteps of joining a gang but his entry to join got a shotgun pointed to his head and he had to be present in all photos of the killings they did, everyone they killed got listed as a covid death because they made so many people OD on fent. I like how tenpenny smells the wet and says smells good what’s cooking. From what I heard it smells terrible. But great video sir I overlooked a lot of these small details showing is character

Whether he was meant to be a traitor or not, either way, it still doesn't change the fact that Ryder's betrayal was poorly written since he's all of a sudden relegated to an unimportant minor character halfway through the storyline. I wouldn't have minded Ryder becoming a traitor had they made his betrayal more impactful of the storyline and his motives much clearer. That's one of the problems I have with Rockstar. They tell a lot more than they show. It's a shame how one of the most iconic characters in the game got so much wasted potential.

Nah, thats just the pace of the story. Ryder was never meant to be a major character like smoke, Ryder was more like a minion to smoke nothing about Ryder indicated that he was a more pivotal figure to the overall story of San Andreas. Ryder is just a memorable character for us but he was always small time.
@@DirtyDev Well if he wasn't pivotal to the storyline, then why have him as a main character at the start? Why have him as a GSF member? Better yet, why even have him in the game at all? What was even the point of his existence in the game if he wasn't an important character? Even OG Loc of all characters played a more important role than Ryder in the story. I would much rather have him not even be included in the game at all than to be written this poorly as a traitor.
I really hate that Rockstar remove these cutscenes from the final game. I mean the depth it adds to the story is on the level of GTA IVs quality at points. I mean this really is the most clear cut explanation for ryders betrayal.
All these cutscenes and voice lines are in the game. It's just the way rockstar makes their stories, characters are constantly doing things you never question until someone explains it like this
They are nor cut at all. Its car conversations that he placed weirdly in different location.
The fact that they removed it adds a great value to the afterlife of the game,, all the research behind voice lines, missions , removed objects,, it allows people to piece stuff together, build conspiracies, it keeps the game alive years later

I always heard Ryder wasn’t intended to be in the betrayal and was just written in last minute. Reason why cj and tempanny only address smoke when it’s discovered. This story is real illuminating. Rockstar truly knows how to write timeless stories that we can unpack more and more 20 years later!
It’s true. It’s not some deep thing, he WASN’T going to originally betray cj but the voice actor left and other stuff happened with production so they wrote it in hastily

Me and my friends recently have analysed the same topic and we got to the same conclusion. That Ryder was always supposed to be a traitor. We actually found a lot more proof in game that that's the case, but I love how you emphasise the PCP addiction. It feels like it has been the main reason why Ryder made this decision. Because if I'm honest with you his personality doesn't hint it at all. But yeah, good video, man!

Ryder being a traitor was poorly written and really messy wich is kind of in-character for him as he is the most chaotic character in this game and also high non stop

Ryder was decidedly going to betray CJ and GSF from a certain point mid-development, you can see that through the beta(s). The problem is that Rockstar changed when and how the betrayal happened quite far in, and didn't get MC Eiht to record any voicelines past the ones they'd already gotten. hence the following:
- the noticeable shoehorning in of Ryder in the Green Sabre scene.
- no betrayal being mentioned til the mission "Photo Opportunity".
- chopped up/reused dialogue during Pier 69.
- T-Bone's anticlimactic death, due to using the animations originally meant for Ryder, which also meant some of T-Bone's voice lines were cut too.
it's pretty cut and dry, really. either they were clueless about what to do with his character after Los Santos, or they couldn't be arsed to pay/get in MC Eiht for more dialogue and they just cobbled together the hodge-podge dogshit that we see in the final game that makes absolutely no sense.
(edit: just to clarify for those who care, "The Introduction" was made AFTER the game released. so anything you can take away from it is completely irrelevant)

The entire story would be so much better if Ryder's pointless ass was taken out entirely. He's the most pointless character of the entire game and had no importance at all. He ruined the entire first half of the game for all of us by dragging it all down. If Ryder was just taken out of the game altogether, then the storyline would be perfect.
@toystory4ever95 You spend the first half of the story trying to rebuild ties in GSF after CJ left all those 5 years, if he ruined the game for you, then say that instead of adding "all of us". Ryder's personality, despite him being a jerk to CJ is why he's memorable including the missions you would do for him. He plays the role of the helper during the tutorial for new players as well, like when they go to the army base to steal crates or target practice at Emmett's.

San Andreas story still mirrors civilization too this day; my dad was apart of the gang culture in Canada during the 90's-00's and the RCMP at the time would be the ones trafficking the drugs through the borders and they'd only distribute to people that were medically diagnosed with schizophrenia; fast foward to a few years ago my older brother wanted to make our dad proud by following his footsteps of joining a gang but his entry to join got a shotgun pointed to his head and he had to be present in all photos of the killings they did, everyone they killed got listed as a covid death because they made so many people OD on fent. Canada is an evil place
