    Once you see the kit does not contain that useless multitool survival card and wire saw you can tell they took that kit seriously. The best small tin survival tin kit I've seen so far. Thanks for the review.

    I recently ended up ordering one of these kits. First they sent me an empty tin accidentally. I called and explained what happened and they sent the actual kit. When it got here it was missing the water bags and half the purification powder. The burn gel bag was also leaking. I want to love this kit but it's been a mixed experience. They did let me keep the empty tin which was a nice bonus. I made a homemade kit out of it already. Thanks for the awesome reviews.

    Nice video and great kit. A lot of people have been asking me for a kit they can just buy (rather than put it together themselves). This might be one I could recommend. -except that I don't like the button compass. Most people get into trouble or die in the woods from getting lost. So imho the button compass does more harm than good being in the kit. They are notoriously inaccurate. A Suunto wrist compass is relatively small and light. I would recommend something like that.
    Personally, I would add- a good compass (not a button), mag lite solitaire, extra aaa batery, bic lighter, charred material (to ignite with the fresnel lens). I would ditch- the wire saw, matches, and mini flashlight.
    The best survival fire starter imho is the butane lighter. Nothing beats a quick, open flame. Matches can fail from humidity. And you only have a small number of matches vs thousands of flames from a lighter. I expect the reason a lighter is not included in the kit is because of shipping regulations.
    IMO the maglite solitaire is a better choice that the mini light in the kit. - more light, and longer battery life. I'd include an extra aaa battery. The mini light in the kit is much better than nothing. You could see a short distance around and be able to work (building a shelter, starting a fire, first aid, etc). But I would want a light that I could use to see further ahead to walk on a trail, etc.
    Those survival wire saws break quickly, and are almost useless imo. I doubt the one included in the kit is any exception. But- If someone wants to actually try to use it, and prove me wrong, I would like to see a video of that. If there is a brand of wire saw out there that works, that would be a good thing. I don't claim to know it all. Just saying- in my experience, all are junk.

    The coffee filters is a great idea, so overlooked in my opinion, so kudos to whoever thought out the contents for this kit. The mre lemonade is a great addition, plus I love those. Lol. Great overall survival kit.

    Your right about the water and shelter being first..but I been in Situations Where there is little to eat or there is nothing to eat..and your body can't Function right when you're hungry.. You can even think straight... So food is very important I suggest you pack it every chance you get.. Very very important..don't put down the importance of food I been were I could not use my hands to do the easiest things...some people have low sugar and don't know it so that food no matter how little it is does help alot

I got the standard survival kit, and mine did come with the huge and heavy caterpillar multitool, which I swapped out with a kutmaster, mini master multi tool, much smaller and lighter. and also added a photon freedom mini light with extra batteries.

    The only suggestion I would make after watching is on the mini med kit which you added. I would place a label on the bag with the date on it because the shelf life on medicines are somewhat short, and that means you would need to periodically replace that item if it hasn't been used.

    Looks like a nice piece of kit. but if it's got plastic on those lid securing tabs, I probably wouldn't want to put it on the fire. Also, one often forgotten use for aluminum foil is to use it as a vapor barrier if you have to start a fire on wet or cold ground. Thanks for the vid

    Nice! That's one of the best compact kits I've ever seen. You could actually survive in a pinch with that stuff! The powdered water treatment looks like ChlorFloc; it has a floculating agent that causes sediment to settle out. It's great stuff but the expiration date is shorter than most other tabs. I wouldn't be surprised if the patch of fabric was designed to make char cloth. Although that kit looks pretty good I'd likely add a few things provided there's room. No reason not to add a few more water treatment tablets (they're cheap) and maybe a BIC. No reason not to add an ESBIT tablet or two and maybe a bit more cordage.
    Overall though that's a well thought out kit. Thanks for a thorough review.

    • @thewatcher611
      @thewatcher611 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That patch doesn't look like it is made of cotton, so if you try to char it, it'll just melt. Besides, you don't need char cloth. If you can start one fire, char some punk wood. That is better, and it's everywhere. The patch is better suited for gear repair. You can pre filter with this kit, and boil in the box. No need really for more water tabs. The filter straw is for quick water, while you're carrying your water containers full of water and tabs. When you get to where you will stay you can cook and boil in the metal box.

      The case is pretty nice and just $15 or so. I think that's a good plan, buy the box and add just what you want. There's nothing wrong with the premade kit but I have dozens of boxes of survival and outdoors gear, like many of us probably do. No point in duplicating all the stuff if you already have it (eg I probably have 50 'space blankets', a mile of paracord, a lot of bankline & kevlar, a hundred or more good knives, etc). But I would like to pick up one of those case. It seems like packing a $10 Olicamp pot lifter would make it even more versatile.

      @@russdewolf8705 True. But if they're making a lot of money, they can afford to buy a nicer kit, or pay a honorable family member or friend to make or upgrade one for them. I'm not knocking the makers of this kit. It's better than nothing, and for many they would rather buy such and throw it in their car or pack and forget it than take the time to put together one on their own, and that's fine. Personally, I find it too full of stuff I'd probably not use in an emergency situation vs stuff I would. I'd most likely either upgrade it with better gear and supplies to supplement my EDC, or repurpose it as a food tin with much less stuff.

    Nice review. With food being a low priority why do so many small kits contain fishing gear and snare wire? Far better to have a thousand dense calories of fat like coconut or olive oil which will keep you warm and mobile and even burn.
    That, first aid, water and a good shelter will keep you alive til help arrives, assuming you have either mobile phone reception, someone who knows to come looking when you don’t come back or in more remote places a PLB.
    If you don’t have a reliable way to call for help you’re not really prepared for the worst.

I have no problem with several swigs of raw olive oil a day, for example, whether it’s on a salad or not. Most people eating a Mediterranean diet have the same.

      I know this is an old comment, but worth pointing out that ship life-rafts all contain one fishing kit per occupant. The reason for them isn't to feed the inhabitants of the life-raft, but to give them a complex task that requires skill - this keeps them occupied during the wait for rescue, and so improves survivability more than having a raft full of bored people. Maybe a skilled fisherman could make these kits work for them, but I daresay the real value to the rest of us is keeping us busy!

    • @DJFelixChester
      @DJFelixChester 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used snare wire from kits like these a couple of times, but never to trap an animal. They usually end up as improvised bail handles or wiring something together. I think they get put in because they are useful and can get food. Ten pound test fishing line doesn’t sound that strong, but 10 wraps holding a hundred pounds is nothing to wink at.

    I think this kit is too big, I think that with time and experience a smaller and more simpler kit, that is adequate, is more valuable. You are more likely to carry a smaller kit on you frequently where as larger items should be in a rucksack some times known as a Bug Out Bag (BOB).

  • @AdventuresofGraywolf
    @AdventuresofGraywolf ปีที่แล้ว

    There is no set list of which of the survival needs you need more than others. There are many different scenarios that will change those priorities.
    Food is only a low priority if you have enough food to hold you over until you need more food. Water is only a priority if you don't have water or don't have enough to hold you over until you can find more before you die of dehydrationf. Shelter isn't a priority unless you're caught out in freezing temperatures or rain and is often the first priority if you're in inclement weather, even above water. Fire is a priority if you need to warm quickly to stave off hypothermia, even above food and water or shelter in some cases.
    You can go a few days with no problem. After that, you'll start to get tired quickly and eventually will just remain stagnant instead of doing what you need to survive. After a couple of weeks (or earlier), you'll start cognitive decline and will be more likely to make mistakes which may keep you out there longer or kill you. Sure, people have gone upwards of a month with no food, but they weren't expending several thousand extra calories a day trudging through the woods, gathering things, and building things.
    Once you go a few days, you'll have to get food somewhere and you can't carry very much with you. Hunting and fishing are quite difficult to do with only handmade tools. A fishing kit and snare wire weighs almost nothing and takes up hardly any room and will make gathering meat quite a bit easier. Not everyone is trained on how to identify plants that are safe to eat and you'll need fat and protein from meat and fish anyway.

    How much was this kit?

  • @angelus_solus
    @angelus_solus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No. That is NOT "compact". Compact is really no bigger than 1 x 3.25 x 4.5 inches. This here is a stage two kit that you'd stash in your rucksack, not slip in your front pocket.
    They cocked it up right from the start. First aid items do not belong in your survival tin. They belong in either the stage 1 "minor injuries" kit on your belt, or the stage 2 "serious injuries" kit or stage 3 "trauma" kit in and on your rucksack. All they do in the SK is take up room that could be better used for survival related gear.
    Ditch the cord. 18 feet of paracord can be carried in a double cobra weave bracelet or 100 feet in a belt.
    Ditch the knife and multitool. A large fixed blade should already be in your rucksack and a large folder in your pocket...with your stage 1 survival kit. A larger sized multitool should be on your belt or ruck anyway.
    Ditch the water purification powder. A 1/4 x 3 inch tube of potassium permanganate will treat at least 25 gallons and take up less space.
    Ditch the matches and replace them with more of the waterproof variety.
    This kit is a good start, but it's far from ideal. I'd still be for buying the tin and filling it with hand picked gear.

    I build survival kits. I cannot match BestGlides prices or quality. If you want to build your own Survival kits I can highly recommend purchasing BestGlide’s products.

    So both kits aren’t “ultimate”? I really enjoy building these kits, but they need to stop with the super ultimate survival titles

      I would be happy if I quit seeing items listed as Tactical. They literally have tactical bricks for sale. Just like these that use the word ultimate. They have an ultimate amount of junk in them. And if a person doesn't build a kit themselves they're not going to know how to use the junk or even if the junk is going to work. Sure these are a great idea to make a check list if you don't know what you need. But a person would have to be some kind of fool to rely on one of these things. Things go wrong. And this kit is full of junk that probably wouldn't help an expert survive

    Best Glide are really letting themselves down with that "Multitool". It really is cheap & nasty. Personally I'd dump it in favour of a lighter and possibly a Swiss Army Knife (one with a saw on it).

    Razor knifes... have anyone ever had a serrous use of them in a survival situaiton??
    Have anyone ever garotted a piece of wood with a wire saw for any good reason?
    was that... paper matches?? Should have shown them. Paper matches are notoriusly worthless.
    Am amzed that not a peice of hard soap is included . As long as you got decent water, a soap is really good anti bacteria and it last longer than tiny chems packages or tissues.
    snare wire. sigh. come on. How many snares is that good enough for to be of any realistic usage? An how many have the skill sets needed? You proably need 10+ snares, skill and good luck .
    "space blankets" usually too small. You need to learn checking the size on those. Some are bigger than others and of more value for a grown perrson with outdoors clothing.
    try put that tin over a good heat source a few times and then see if the ld still fits.

      Wow, what are you...a sergeant in the keyboard warrior corps? Get a clue there, puffed up toad. Even John Wiseman, who very likely has had more survival experience out in the field during his 27 years of service than you've had in your 17 years, strongly recommends carrying, and knowing how to use the contents of, a PSK. Loosely quoting him: "It doesn't matter if you're walking your dog, if you're on a day hike, lost in the Arctic or desert or if you're ballroom dancing...your kit should be on you whenever you leave the house." I think his word holds more weight than the pretentiously hostile opinion of some a$$hole TH-cam rando.
      Now, before you decide to get your Victoria's Secret lacy paties in a wad, let me tell you I have reply notifications disabled...so any butthurt retort will be a waste of your time. Cheerio, Junior!
