I just got the Ally X today in the mail and I’m blown away. I genuinely think the performance is much better than I anticipated. Played the latest Call of Duty nearly maxed out at 1080p and it’s super playable. Wow.
As a console player I forgot how annoying a pc was 😂. Will still be using it to stream games, but also have the option to play native on the Ally X, but updating a million things...is a B1tch lol

Bought today X. I started from regular Windows Update, then Microsoft Store apps update, then updates in Armory Crate, and update in My Asus. It took 3+ hours.
Just watched this at work . Will rewatch when I get home and follow on mine. Just bought one last night ran one match on black ops 6 . Ran smoothly no lag . This my 1st pc so it’s very different for me understanding how to get games and find certain things from ps5 and Xbox . But you explain and showed me very easy from other videos so I am following you now. And yes I got the 3months of gamepass in the u.s - thank you

One big reason that I’m looking at this is because of windows. I know that windows has its problems, but there’s more to it than just compatibility of games for me. The magnifier on the steam deck is not a very good one, and I know the one that’s built into windows like the back of my hand. I’m wondering if there’s someway to map one of these game controls to the keyboard combination “Windows + =“ so that I can use it anywhere inside of the system like I can with a regular laptop or the Nintendo switch?

I just bought my Ally X today and although it feels a little cheaper design and build wise than my PS Portal, I'm hoping it turns into my everything emulator from NES-Xbox360.
I'm definitely getting the next gen! This vid has "sealed the deal" for me, as I really dig the navigation system - mouse + left/right clicking. But it'll have to wait, cuz I won't be getting it with IPS, only OLED + never getting first gen (this is not really Gen 2, but 1.5). Also, Windows is so porous (security), so for the time being, I'll probably be getting the Fold 6, haven't decided yet. Dex will be my "go to" rig for the next 6-12 months (at least) for security reasons. ;)
I'm looking at getting a ASUS ROG ALLY X for my downtime at work to play call of duty multiplayer online. My main concern is though internet wise would my regular Verizon mobile hotspot be able to keep a stable connection for COD? Or is there a better solution?
Where can I get a chair like that? Love it! Btw, I had an issue with my ally X not updating windows. I had to fresh install. When i first went to reset this pc. It wouldnt let me. I had to choose update windows online for it to work. But once it did.. all was great. Everything updated perfectly.

The Rog ally x is a pc. Is basically a laptop with controller so you operate it exactly the same as a pc. If you want console like experience, steam deck is the one but is limited to steam games ( i know you can have ways to install non steam games) and not as powerful as ally x.
I only play multiplayer shooters and sports games, would the ally x be a better bet than the oled deck? I also like browse alot to stream movies and sports.
The ally x looks nice but i want handheld to be playable out of box and not have to do all this setting up, why i been eying the steamdeck as of late. Though i heard vale offering there os to other companies making handheld companies so hope asus and others might use it if its true.
Love that you can turn on and off AFMF in the command centre now. Have been really impressed with the Asus software for the Ally and it just keeps improving.
Windows made me restore my XPS 17 Settings and apps computer settings when setting up the Asus ally X today. Did all the Asus ally x windows updates, my Asus app updates and armory crate updates restore Asus Ally X battery and performance settings? Or should I be worried that it copied my XPS 17 settings? Man I don’t think I had to worry about this with my steam deck lol. Debating if I should reset my Asus Ally X to a brand new computer. I didn’t want to restore my XPS 17 but windows made me in the beginning. I had no option for brand new PC.
the 3 months gamepass require me to input my credit card or payment details 😅 btw, how do you keep the wifi from disconnected when the screen off? it keep disconnecting my internet, i already turn the option to sleep off am i suppose to keep the screen on when downloading big games?

Same, i see why people like the touchpad. 2 buttons left side above the D-pad hit/press the bottom button. There is a option called control mode switch between gamepad and desktop to use joystick as a mouse.

OLED is great, but some think having VRR is better. Plus you have a higher 1080p from the Ally. Unfortunately I can’t comment on anything else, perhaps 128kb knows.
Need further testing to see if it wakes the animal. Screen size is good i like the size of the device. Brightness is likely overpowering for night play but adjustable.
Works great as a desktop. Long as you're fine 1080 resolution. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't do the level of programming you do but yes it will program.

Can you use Command Center while playing a game? Playing Carrion through Steam and hit CC button but the overlay doesn't appear- neither does volume when adjusting volume. I hit Crate button and then CC will appear
Nah it's not that, it's my fault. I had to change the softbox on my light and it blew out the footage badly, I've ordered a replacement similar to my original one so future videos will be fixed soon.

The Asus Tor comes with a Backup Tool, but this ist not a Backup Tool für System Backup- und Recovery. There are commercial Backup Tools for Windows, like Acronis True Image. But the Cloud Backup could do it well too ? Thanks.
@@darrellrichardson5837 many recommend turning on first to ensure you don't have any issues with the screen, joysticks etc but I just went for it and changed the drive immediately without ever turning on mine, had no issues!
I would turn everything on first to test out pixels and buttons to make sure everything works. I would not bother doing any of the updates at this point. Once you confirm, turn it off, get to swappin’, then follow the video.
@@128KB yep epic store wasn’t an option in armory crate. I downloaded it from the windows store. Took a while but it showed up automatically in armory crate. So far I just downloaded Texas chainsaw. Just gonna plays games that I can’t from in steam deck.
@@brianmcgraw5848 I declined all office and 365 stuff and yet it’s all installed. Outlook was in my taskbar pinned already. Teams is installed a bunch of work crap nobody needs for a gaming device. My original ROG Ally didn’t have any of that crap. I just debloated it so I can’t name all apps that were on the device. But it was significantly more than the OG Ally.

You guys get momory errors when using cloud recovery? I did seems to work fine though. No errors in sfc.

22 minutes to set this up. Steam deck only takes 4 minutes and you are good to go wow!
Delayed gratification, might be some things it does that steam deck doesn't.
Any plans of testing out the ally x with an egpu. I know it’s expensive, maybe contact some manufacturers for a review product
No plans as of yet, as you mentioned they're crazy expensive. We'll see if we can contact anyone that wants to loan us one for a video.
Egpu would be great but it’s not a high end gaming rig replacement. Lower expectations on gaming & love it.

well aside from the annoying setup, this, imo, is by far the best handheld. steamdeck ONLY does steam games so you can’t play cod, or xbox games… ect.
That Armoury Crate software looks or seems to be very snappy and works when deployed compared to the Legion Go Space on my Legion Go.

What about setting up an micro sd card?
It's pretty easy to set up the micro SD card. You throw it in the trash can and upgrade the SSD if you need more space.

Windows in not overly difficult to use even in a compact handheld. There are tons of online guides if you're stuck.

You should start record the video setup in dark mode first. haha. is hard to see in light mode.

Getting my Ally today. I have question though I’m to upgrade my drive should I do that before or after update my Ally for the first time I’m a pc noob
@@darrellrichardson5837 many recommend turning on first to ensure you don't have any issues with the screen, joysticks etc but I just went for it and changed the drive immediately without ever turning on mine, had no issues!
Well use logic... if you update and then upgrade your ssd... you'll update twice 🤷♂️
I would turn everything on first to test out pixels and buttons to make sure everything works. I would not bother doing any of the updates at this point. Once you confirm, turn it off, get to swappin’, then follow the video.
How to put Retroarch, Mame and all the Fba versions to emulate 16 bit systems and arcade coin-ops?
I haven't seen anything great yet for native booting. But if you know how to do it on a desktop you can on the ally x.

How do I download games while it’s turned off
So when did you install steam store and epic store? I got lost. Via Armory crate or you installed it manually via Microsoft Edge?

Via Armoury Crate, I think Epic I downloaded from the browser, forgot to show that!
@@128KB yep epic store wasn’t an option in armory crate. I downloaded it from the windows store. Took a while but it showed up automatically in armory crate. So far I just downloaded Texas chainsaw. Just gonna plays games that I can’t from in steam deck.
I also got the promotion of 3 months of game pass. Nice! I already have it but nicer

My ROG Ally X has more bloatware on it than my old ROG Ally.
Not sure why their latest copy of Windows 11 that they ship out has all that crap.
? Like what, I haven't noticed much usual microsoft crap. Alot of what I see is needed or oem driver software.
@@brianmcgraw5848 I declined all office and 365 stuff and yet it’s all installed. Outlook was in my taskbar pinned already. Teams is installed a bunch of work crap nobody needs for a gaming device.
My original ROG Ally didn’t have any of that crap.
I just debloated it so I can’t name all apps that were on the device. But it was significantly more than the OG Ally.
how did you get 16gb on gpu. Can only see 8g as an option?
another user reported this as well maybe yours isn't up to date? i have options 4-16gb all available as options in armoury crate se.
