What I found tremendously helpful with this video is Fixerette video'd each step of removing the cover panel under the dash. I needed to refer to it to see how the tabs looked when she started as I needed help with reattachment, the tabs actually behind the panel, not in front. Well done!!!

Wow! Thank you so much! I have been watching videos that mechanics made and still had no clue how to fix my brake light switch. My mechanic wanted to charge me $400. Great video!! From start to finish, you got it down!! Going out to fix my car!

Gteat Job Chick!!!! Im a small frame lady, like yourself, so we are the ideal size to work on VWs. Haha. VERY IMPORTANT TOOLS FOR VWs:
1.TINY Tool Kit, they have super small pliers (curved and straight) for the fuses. As well as small screwdrivers, useful for small spaces.
    2. SCREWDRIVER BITS: T220-T-225 Most interior screws will be one of these or a phillpis head.
    3. SCOSCHE makes a kit that is Specifically for Removal of any plastic parts with clips (ie..dash, door panels, ect..)
I would recommend that ANYONE that purchases a Volkswagen product take the time to invest in these few items. They are inexpensive and will prove to be Very Useful!
    Once Again, GREAT JOB!!
I had the problem of the brake lights staying ON all the time. Same part had to be replaced though. I didn't remove the plastic panel next to the steering wheel, I have already broken Way Too Many clips in other places. I moved my seat as far back as it would go and laid "backwards", I suppose a lil upside down too. My feet were on the roof of the back seat. Very Funny to see , Im sure.

All very curious and pleasure for this lady, but not complete due to certain unforeseen events that many do not know. There are now many cars with switches (see the 4-pin, ones two of which are dedicated to the cruiser) whose signal is interfaced with the on-board computer, which even when replacing the switch, the brake lights remain on by turning the ignition key. Everything must be reset by a mechanic cars, who inserts his computer into the O.B.D. diagnostic socket, to solve the problem or see via the computer codes if there are other problems that cause the lights to remain continuous without pressing the brake pedal.

      I'm an engineer,
      she's not an engineer , that's obvious
Granted she has a passion for fixing shit, I'LL GIVE HER CREDIT THERE because that is the basis for anyone wants to undertake engineering .
but, she's not an engineer and you must have a very low opinion of engineer's if you think she is one

      well.... NO
i mean all engineers need to have a certain basic but high level of knowledge, so there are no engineers with crap knowledge.
if there are they are not engineers
now there are engineer's with shit personalities, but.. that has nothing to do with engineering
so... honestly, i'm not sure where you came up with this comment
      i mean
      1. i'm a good person
      2. i'm an engineer
      3. she is not an engineer
      4. i'm not ragging on her, i'm just saying she's not an engineer but credit to her for taking the initiative to fix her own car
so.. how does that make me a shit engineer ?
I"m telling it like it is , that's what engineer's do mate
also.. who are you to judge me , are you an engineer by any chance.
if not.. then... No disrespect intended, ok but.... you're then making a judgement call about her from a point where you don't fully understand the situation and i suppose to you this fix would then be impressive and hence your comment
and if you are an engineer , i gotta ask why you said what yousaid because what she did is not engineering and engineer's don't act the way she did when a simple problem is fixed
but can i ask.... Why are you trying to be rude and insulting ?

Hopefully this saves at least 1 person from tearing their whole lower dash apart searching for a switch that isnt there like a mad man 🤣

    1:52 THAT'S NOT CORRECT
the "Little thing in the middle" AKA THE FUSE WIRE
can be unbroken but the fuse can still have high resistance
3 ways to check a fuse
VISUAL EXAMINATION - Look at it (which is what you did) and check for a blown fuse or blackness under the plastic
Continuity Test - Using a Multimeter in CONTINUITY MODE you test to see if the beep goes through (this test is only somewhat accurate)
RESISTANCE TEST - This is your most accurate way of testing a fuse, you want to have a reading that is UNDER 0.5 Ohms..... usually you will get 0.1 Ohms or 0.2 Ohms, this is normal.
Larger fuses have larger resistance readings so if your'e not sure get another fuse out with the same number on it and check it's resistance reading
but generally, sticking to under 0.5 Ohms for these sorts of fuses is a good rule of thumb
but what you did, IS NOT A CORRECT ASSESSMENT
    so.. food for thought
you could have gone through ALL THAT DISASSEMBLY only to find out........ OH SHIT, MY FUSE WAS ACTUALLY FAULTY
    LOL
Trust me.... it's worth testing a fuse correctly vs pulling half the car apart
AND ALSO... you want to put back the fuse before you move along because there's nothing worse than replacing the switch
then wondering.... DOES IT WORK ?
Oh shit, it doesn't work,....... Why didn't it work
only to have it taken to a mechanic and find out YOU DIDN'T ACTUALLY PUT THE FUSE BACK IN lol

      if i had a channel, i probably would,.......... but i don't
but it's also not hard to google
How to test continuity using a multimeter
How to test Resistance Using a Multimeter
as well as to do a few resistance experiments on wires
      - Shiny copper wires
      - Slightly surface rusted Wires
      - Badly rusted wires
      - Metal that is rusted all the way through
      - Wires that are black because they were in a circuit on the primary side close to the input fuse when the circuit blew due to over current
      - Wires that are corroded
Most people don't understand that a tone can go through approx .... Oh i don't know .. say 30k Ohm Resistance
However you certainly don't want your fuse being even at 10 Ohm let alone 30,000
      LOL
but hey one truth always remains
PEOPLE ALWAYS INSIST ON DOING SHIT THE HARD WAY
so i have no question that someone is going to tell me to shut the fuck up
and then they'll pull apart an entire car only to find out that the fuse appeared shiny but had high resistance
      LOL
it fucking happens all the time
