It’s great to hear you sharing your personal experiences! I’m wearing my BB58 today. It took me years to realise that I really wanted one for myself, and not just because it was so popular. I’m really glad I waited until I was sure, instead of jumping to buy it asap
Biggest mistake I made was buying far too many "affordable" watches only to realise I could have spent that money on a lesser number of truly special watches!
I recently bought a Longines Conquest 41mm and it's kinda made the rest of my watch box redundant, find it hard to wear a £100 quartz watch at weekends when I have that lovely Longines sat there
I like these kinds of videos just as much as regular review videos. The one you did where you talked about why we collect watches was the first video I saw of yours and made me subscribe right away
Nice video. Concerning the Tudor FXD at the start of the video, it was the Marine National FXD from 2021 which became the collectable one. All the best.
Yes exactly! I would sign everything exactly like that! And many things can also be applied to other areas of life! And no matter whether a watch costs 100, 1000, 10,000 or more...everyone can bring joy, behind each there can be a story or life situation. That's how it is with me too! It's great that someone addresses such things in a video!
I love your statement “is all about your connection with your watch”. Right ON!!!! I learned that some watches are loved by many but not necessarily by me. Example I bought a GS snowflake but after 6mo I let it gov. There was not much enjoyment wearing that thing. However i have a cheap khaki field titanium Hamilton that gets the most time in my wrist than my Rolex’s, Omega’ , etc
Great points 👍. I enjoy the timepieces that I have in my current rotation: 1. Dress watch: Hamilton Jazzmaster - 40mm, blue dial, blue leather strap 2. Everyday watch: Omega SMPc - 41mm, black lacquered dial, metal bracelet 3. Racing watch (out of love for cars): Tag Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 - 43mm, black non-skeleton dial, black perforated rubber strap.
--> Try it on! I was a click away from buying a Tag Heuer Monaco sight unseen, went to the boutique with my friend who was looking to get a watch for himself, and casually tried a Monaco while there. Oh my. It was surprisingly thick and slab-sided, for me borderline unwearable, hated it. A case of never meet your heroes. Totally different story with the Cartier Santos. I thought it was too much design-wise, not for me and all the usual 'I don't see myself wearing that thing' thoughts. Put it on my wrist to scratch the curiosity itch, fell in love instantly. Still think about Santos being my next watch 2y after that. So, sound advice :)
All great points. My only comment on not wearing it is with the way the world is now a days depending on which model is may or may not be *safe* to wear the watch. I don't give a F about scratching the watch, I do worry about drawing attention to myself.
I just subscribed to your channel and what great contents you have. I will be turning 50 this year and thinking of buying myself a watch but my wife is against it because it's too expensive and I don't have the money for it.
Go and try the watch on is definitely the best advice but you also need to moderate your desire for a watch. I wanted a GMT watch and in particular the Longines Zulu Time. This was before they did a 39mm version so I avoided making a mistake by trying and seeing that it was too big for my wrist. Instead I bought a Breitling Chronomat GMT. Kept it for two days before realising it wasn’t the watch for me because I woke up just not bothered about wearing it. Took it back for a dealer refund, which they were happy to do. Instead I bought an Omega Planet Ocean. Now I’m very happy with the PO but the reality is I should’ve just walked away when seeing that the Longines was too big rather than ending up spending £3K more and still not having a GMT watch.
Great advice. Also, don't hate on quartz. Never go into debt to buy a watch. And, no one (almost know one), knows, cares or gives a crap about your watch, so easy up on the snobbery.
They weren’t friends, it was jealousy Because they could probably tell u had ambition and were going somewhere and they weren’t. I bet they are doing fuck all now.
I’m a scuba diver and before I was really into watches I received a Swatch with a 100m WR. It actually survived a dive but died a while after I got back to the surface haha. 200m is necessary for scuba diving 😊
No it's not. You need a watch that can actually handle the rated pressure. That Swatch was clearly not ok. Having said that, if you buy an ISO 6425 certified diver, you can be sure it will withstand the rated depth because that watch you buy is actually tested at 125% of the rated depth. You can actually dive with an Omega Speedmaster, spec'd at 50m, as long as you don't go any deeper than that, of course.
@@meindertsprang7491 A watch is normally tested in a tank with stagnant water that applies pressure in a controlled way. If you dive down to let’s say 25m and move your hand really quickly then the pressure amounts to a lot more than 25m in conditions with no movement. That’s why you need a watch that can withstand a lot more than is stated on the watch.
The biggest and probably only mistake is buying a watch because someone else tells you to or to impress someone else . Don't buy this or that because " you can't be a watch collector if you don't have a Rolex , speedmaster or whatever", buy exactly what you want and wear them.
With the water proof depth rating it’s not just about how deep that it can go but the pressure that it can take. I surf so generally do not go to deep but if I get hit by the lip of a wave a pushed down that impact force sure exerts some real pressure 🤪
Thank you for the video. There are things I hate about this hobby. TH-cam is good to help us collectors but could be harmful too. Please do not watch videos referring alternatives for your dream watch. There is no watch you have to buy right now. And also what’s your watch says about you is an absolute nonsense. I could go on….
My two pence worth, 1. Never buy a luxury watch if you still live with your parents 2. Never pay more for a modern watch than its retail price. 3. If you’re not paying outright with saved funds, don’t buy it. You can’t afford it…..
Agree with everything except that I must/have to wear my watch. I’m a collector and I love to have and admire some of my watches and I would hate to have them scratched. If you are an art collector you don’t walk with the art piece in the street. Why would I wear my Nautilus? Buy what you love and wear it if you like to wear it. Regards
How can you do a watch video and not wear a watch? Then make a commentary section on not wearing a watch? This video is top drawer clickbait and really odd. Last for me.
To me, spending 1/20th of the price for a top tier replica to scratch the itch aint a bad choice. Some buy the watch only to have buyer remorse or becomes too scared to wear it. After the honeymoon period, it becomes just a watch.
It’s great to hear you sharing your personal experiences!

We should always avoid toxic people. You did well, walk away from negativity and never look back. They weren’t your friends in the first place.
I recently bought a Longines Conquest 41mm and it's kinda made the rest of my watch box redundant, find it hard to wear a £100 quartz watch at weekends when I have that lovely Longines sat there
Super honest review Harrison. Really enjoyed the video and your commentary on the 10 watch collecting mistakes 👏👏👏

Much appreciated!

I really like your reviews! Keep going on, you’re doing great.
Thanks, will do!
Great video
Get a lot of information about watches
Also you are very humble about reviewing watches 👍
very lnice video - as always! cheers
I only wear grass fed, free range, small batch, Micro Brands, that give 2.89% of their profits to Horologists Without Borders. Is this a mistake?
😆
You didn’t mention diversity equity and inclusion…I’m triggered!!!! 😂
No but your father not wearing the condom may have been. 😂
@@SaSpursFan😂
“Horologists without borders”, I’m going to start using that one 🤣
Mine was buying into the Grand Seiko hype when the brand doesn’t really fit my style at all. It was worth a shot, but over $1000 loss mistake hurts

The breitling at 7:59 is beautiful, what strap is that?
Breitling Chronomat rubber strap
I tried one on recently. Absolute beast! If Putin pushes the red button, you'll be vaporised but your watch will survive!!
Hey team, i need some help.
Do i go for Cartier Tank Must, Tudor Burgundy (2nd hand) or omega aqua terra (2nd hand):)

Sir kindly do the review of the SEIKO 453 thanks😊❤
453 or 455 thanks
#3 “Wear your watch” (said while not wearing a watch) 😝

I prefer my watches without scratches but I wear one of them each day because every day is a special day ☝🏽😬😉
Regarding water resistance, all I need is enough to be able to submerge a watch underwater.
Yup! I just want to know that my watch will not take on water if I go swimming, get caught in the rain, or wash it under running water.
Don’t settle. If you want a Submariner, as example, then truly no other similar watch will cut it.
Agreed 100%

I did it deliberately due to the videos title. I don’t want to influence your decision, only educate and entertain where I can.

except you're supporting criminals
Why don't you wear a watch?
