Things were really different in the 70s and 80s. We kids were mini adults, very independant (had to be). We had jobs, got married young, smoked young, hitched rides to concerts, took care of the household, etc. I was 17 and pregnant when this came out, so I was really emotional with this one. Heartbreak and hormones not a good combo, lol. I think ET is adorable, love their relationship with him. Our gov. does like to go over board from fear. This was Drew's second major film at age 7, love all her films. Let it flow tears cleanse the soul. Thanx, Peace

John Williams won an Oscar for original score to E.T. So, you are right to notice how good the music is while reacting to the movie. I was 11 years old when this came out and saw it in theaters multiple times. It was a huge hit and a huge deal. The music was so good in theaters and made the movie feel more epic. And in the 70's and 80's it was common for us kids to stay at home alone without our parents for a few hours. As well as walk to school without them. I bought the soundtrack to E.T. back then, and listened to it all the time, cause it was that good.

I cry like a baby every time I watch this movie. Like you said, the music SO amplifies the emotion! It’s one of my all time favorite movies and it always will be. Thanks for watching, and I think I speak for all of us when I say it’s ok to let some tears out. We WANT to see how much you love our favorite movies. You know what if you’re crying, there’s many of us that are right there with you!

M&Ms passed up the chance to be the candy used to lure the shy little alien from his hiding place in the 1982 blockbuster E.T., thereby letting one of the most successful instances of movie product placement fall into the hands of a competitor who benefited mightily from it.

I was born in October of 1978 and I remember seeing this in the theater with my Aunt and my Gram. It's my earliest memory since I was around 3 and a half when this came out. I remember crying my eyes out when ET "died" and I remember sitting in my aunts lap bawling that she had to take me out in the lobby. She still jokes with me about that day and I remember it vividly. ET is my earliest memory! The 80s were a special time that's for sure!

I was born in 1970, my earliest memory was also at age 3, but it was when the Elvis Presley Aloha concert special was shown via satellite TV all around the world. I remember being glued to the TV, watching Elvis perform, but not knowing who he was. But I knew he was someone important, and had charisma. Weird how things in pop culture can be someone's first memory.

We also had another game console called Intellivision in addition to Atari.
Generation X was really the first to have many divorced parents or both parents working. We really did have to raise ourselves. We walked ourselves to school or the bus stop. We all had basically two rules and that was to be home for dinner and be home at night when the street lights came on.

Eliot and ET are linked somehow there connected so he's feeling what he's feeling.

Hey E, thank you for the reaction. I'm a bit older than you, and I remember when this movie was in theaters. I was just a child, then. This movie really gets you, and I was crying, too. I also remember that the first time I was left alone at home, I was about 7 years old. Parents were not as careful as they are now, lol. The 80's were so much fun.

I grew up in the 90's I'm not a baby so I have years .and so I remember some of this, like being left alone young. I just don't feel it was the best way to handle it. I'm not judging I'm only going off of my experiences.

@@randomlyreactandreviewfirstEzy Oh, no, I agree with you, that is not the way to handle this. Even at that age, I felt that it was wrong, but couldn't really say why. I felt scared, and also excited for being alone at home for the first time. I didn't do much, I just watched TV, lol.

At 18:10 the movie E.T. is watching is called "The Quiet Man" and is a great older movie to watch if you ever want to go way back or hit up some John Wayne films- most people miss out on that one because it's not a western. I remember when this came out. I was about 5-6 and I really empathized with Drew Barrymore's character and cried my eyes out at the end. I of course HAD to have an E.T. doll after that even if all it did was extend it's neck and look creepy on my shelf. 😆
ETA: I also remember that I had to ask what the word "testicle" meant after my father decided to tell the entire movie theatre what E.T. looked like during the hospital scene.

Oh also...some reactors today did not understand why E.T. looked kinda ugly and thought that Spielberg should have made him look cute. But the purpose of the film was to show that what matters and what makes E.T. lovable, is his heart. And how exterior appearance is not the important thing. Anyone who harps on E.T.'s looks, does not get the point.

The kids were not smoking. It was steam, at least that from a drink/food or incense, may have gone a bit overboard for aesthetic reasons for it to look that way. You don't see anyone smoking, or cigarettes. Might even be incense for the D&D game to immerse yourself even more in the game.
