  • This War Of Mine: The Board Game features a multiplayer experience for up to 6 players, as well as a solo variant. You will be able to personify one of the well-known characters from the electronic version of the game and face hundreds of new challenges and difficult choices.
The boardgame significantly broadens the original game’s universe and emphasises the depth of plot, yet its main focus will be on human interactions driven by survival instinct and group decision-making.
The project aims to omit the usual boardgame threshold - TWOM: The Board Game is an INSTANT PLAY game, with no need for reading the manual before starting the adventure.
Experience the simulation of a struggle for survival as a group of civilians facing a blind and merciless war.
In war, not everyone is a soldier.
Having only dabbled in the popular PC game, does this board game represent the theme and feel faithfully or take some liberties? Can you deal with the theme long enough for it to immerse you? Let me spend some extra time on this review to tell you about This War Of Mine as well as the expansion "Tales from the Ruined City".

You made add this again to my wishlist. I really enjoy the theme and already checked gameplay and looks nice, but the 2h+ to play makes me think that I might not take to the table (even solo) that much. Oh well.. will check for a good price on it or on some MathTrade :) Thanks for the review, really well done :)

Love awaken relms! They are pricey but so far havent been disappointed by all the content they include.

Thanks for this. Have had this game on my shelves since Christmas and have still yet to get started with it. This review has at least tempted me to try and make time for it, and perhaps even find a whole weekend to dedicate to it... Pleased to hear your views on playing multiplayer - that's pretty much made my mind up to play it solo only... Lol

I need to get the expansion- have the base game- but waiting to play with the expansion! Ahhh!

Have the base and expansion, only played base so far. It does take long IF you can survive long enough. As I kept playing, learned that you have to expect the worst, it WILL happen, you just need to ameliorate it as much as possible by being prepared ahead. Love it!

Great review. Bagged it in my collection 2 years ago. Being someone who played the PC version, the difficulty in this board game is tougher and more challenging. Love the theme, artwork, beautiful production, the huge amount of content in narration and the rules. Despite some rules aren't laid out clearly, it's a well designed game and it's a keeper in my collection for all it's gritty, dark and mature content.

Well said! Have you tried the Days of the Siege campaign for it? Check out my recent review of it from March I believe!

@@TheBrokenMeeple No I have not. I bought it as a 2nd hand KS copy so I presume it won't be necessary. I noticed there are multiple similar characters, mechanics, cards and etc which are similar to the expansions. I could be wrong, most likely the only difference is the book of tales...

Very thorough and excellent review, it will be interesting to see where this emerges in your top 100. On the strength of this I will try pick up a copy.
If I don't like it however, I'll come and raid your pantry of canned fish ;-)

This game is both awful and awesome. I love it, especially as a solo game, I fully agree with you on that. Maybe I should pick up the expansion too :)
Whilst I also really love Robinson Crusoe, this game has a stronger narrative and feels far more serious. Both games are pretty hard to win.

This War of Mine is one of my favorite games, so I'm happy to hear that Robinson Crusoe is comparable, since I'm hoping to buy it soon. I have both expansions, but Tales from The Ruined City has distinct scenarios which give the game a very different feel--there's an investigative mystery, a love story, a scary epidemic, etc.
I play silly games like Terror Below, Horrified, Lords of Waterdeep--but TWOM is perfect when you have several hours to explore.

This game is SOOO tense! But if you get your engine up and running the last few days are a breeze. I love it.

I just bought the app off of google play about 2 or 3 days ago. It was originally $13.99 but I bought it on sale for $1.99. I think the sale is still on as of today (08/03/19). I haven't tried it yet.. had to take advantage of sale.

Thanks for the tip! I just bought the app. But beware, the companion app for the board game is another app which is free of charge.

Found a dead man’s stacked stash of food for his dead kids. After looting the map off the dead kids. That shit was so yummy probably saved my characters lives, and thematically yummy too!

    (After 6 min) Ok,...ok,.....adding to chart......ok
Very nice review on the game. I like the scenario/journal/story telling aspect to follow.
I wasn’t sure about this game the first time I heard about it but your review describes the kind of games I’m interested in.
Do you have the new Resident Evil 2 board game? If you do, please do a review on it.
This was another I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not.

Sadly, not touched that game - it's not one I'm expecting much from though, these franchise miniature games are very hit and miss.

Its got good game mechanics but you have to be prepared for the themes like (spoiler....) neighbours begging for help while their spouse is undergoing rape, etc.
I like horror games like cthulhu and dark-fantasy but phew, this is dark-realistic....too dark for me.
