Prior to ever watching this video, I had given up on playing my copy of First Martians. It had collected a good layer dust on my shelf. However, when I watched this video, I blew off the dust and gave it another go. I was surprised that I enjoyed it. Thank you for the perspective shift.

And I thought our intros were funny. Loved it man.
Luke you're fast becoming one of my favorite reviewers. You explained the game exceptionally well and gave me all the positives and negatives of this game. I have heard a lot of negative reviews of this game and I wasn't sure if I should get it yet, but you helped me understand that it was more science driven and ultimately isn't going to be fantastical. I may have to give it a go, thanks mate. Great video. Also enjoyed your scythe wind gambit video.

Well thank you very much! :D Some of the best feedback I've heard to date! Glad you enjoyed the video and got some use out of it! :-)

Luke Hector yeah man, every time I'm working chores around the house, I'm starting to check your channel more and more to play your review so I can listen or watch while I work. I usually do that with the dice tower guys, but I'm adding you to my playlist of awesome reviewers man. Thanks for all you're doing! I'll keep watching.

Why Mars ? I can’t believe I’m back on mars.... more seriously part of the appeal is that it’s almost accessible for real (almost). I have to honest I adore FM but my group is of mixed opinion. The app has also moved on light years since it release when I got the preorder. But I love my washed minis

    Big thanks for the recommendation!!!
Based largely on your review I picked it up as a late Christmas present for myself and am absolutely loving it...
    £20 very well spent 😁😁👍

How would you compare this to Robinson in terms of player control? We sense that Ignacy removed a lot of player control with the apps and the additional randomness of the breakdown dice and the dice rolling for repairs.
We also had a problem where the app hits us with events that we have no idea about - unlike in Robinson where you are bitten by a spider and you remember, this has events like: something broke in a generic part of the station and then when that event comes up to bite you (pun not intended) we're can't remember what the event was that does this so it feels like you're hit for no reason whatsoever..

Well I tend to remember what caused an event if it's one that I ignored the action to rectify it, however I'll agree Robinson is probably more clearer on that front because you have the physical card to refer to and when you draw it, you remember it. You get breakdown dice, but then you got weather dice in Robinson. Each of them has random elements, but then half of the games appeal is the story/experience.

The "story" of the events in the app are so generic that we can't remember them, in Robinson they were better explained.
You don't roll weather dice all the time and in some scenarios not at all. And weather dice could be mitigated by building the roof. There's nothing mitigating the breakdown dice in FM.

The app thing is interesting - the only thing more divisive seems to be legacy games ;) I fully agree that don right the app adds a lot (XCOM and Mom 2 in particular) but there’s a certain faction that seem to think the game is played on the app and don’t seem to want to try the game to find out otherwise. Oh and you missed a cut at 9.15 ;)

Tell me about it - My wife is currently working on a certain Online Supermarkets year end ... and yes given the amount you have churned out last few weeks its a pretty small thing to have missed :) only pointed it out as I thought you'd like to know ...

Definitely, was handy to know. And yes I've had a backlog to manage - hoping to tone it down a little once it's up to date. :-)

I am being posted again to a country with poor boardgaming infrastructure, lacking basic resources (players) to hold challenging game nights. Therefore I am again looking for interesting solo games. I already own Ottoman Sunset, Hostage Negotiator, Coffee Roaster and Star Trek Frontiers (which I couldn't figure how to play yet).
I was thinking of ordering Nemo's War (interestingly not in your recent Top 10 Solo Games - th-cam.com/video/FEB6-1oAuqc/w-d-xo.html) and Star Trek Frontiers Expansion. Your detailed review convinced me to add back First Martians to the pack. Thank you again for being fair and different.

Thanks! Funny enough, Nemo's War is on my review pile. . . .

Dude, have a think about getting the "Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective" series (Thames Murders, and Jack the Ripper). They make for excellent solo experiences, and scale really well too. The "Race for the Galaxy", and "Star Realms" apps are good value for money too. Tiny Epic Galaxies solos well too. Good luck!

Nemo's War is great. I play solo a lot. I mostly play Gloomhaven, HeroQuest, Warhammer Quest, Scythe, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Gaia Project, Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, Arkham Horror the Card Game and AH 3rd Edition, Eldritch Horror, and Mage Knight, mostly.
