I want to compliment your efforts and presentation here. I found you in March or April of 2017, and I have been watching you ever since. Over the past few months your quality has really gotten good. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy that you are not exclusively a playthrough Channel or a review channel. The fact that you always do both is a massive, massive selling point for me when I'm recommending people to go watch more gaming vids and get addicted. It's the number one reason that I usually send people to rahdo runs through, and Ant lab, and Jon gets games FIRST. On the other end of things, Even people I really like including the Game Boy geek, Dice Tower, and drive-thru reviews, heck, even shut up and sit down, they just bring their own style to in an often thin way (except Zee Garcia) and it just doesn't quite give enough information to a consumer. Thank you thank you thank you.
In regard to the rules question at 6:30. You were correct to pull the Event card after Chapter 1 on Day 1. Galakta Games has a rules FAQ and errata document on their website that states the following:
01:44:44 Anton going nuts, the gun comment, and Frances ... just made me smile a lot during this grim atmosphere of a super thematic game! Thanks Frances :D
I got the game less than a year ago and are currently trying to understand the rules to prepare for my first play. Just to let you know that in the meantime the Chapter I card was revised adding the text "After determining the Objectives, draw the top Event card", so that's pretty clear now from the game itself as well. I noticed around 1:26:00 you added two new ideas into the fitting deck, while one of the other characters used one of them to built a chair in the same turn... My understanding is that all characters operate simultaneously, so this should not be possible, correct?
38:15 You can in fact leave some of the findings behind and come back for them late (Hidden rule, script #534). Put the extras on top of the location card. next visit to that location, roll the black die. A roll of 7-10 lets you move those items from the location card back into the findings pile. 35:20 Some night raids say "starting with the most expensive tokens" and some night raids say "starting with green tokens". In this case, it looks like yourse said "starting with green tokens".. so after giving up your food, you could have chosen to give up ANY other tokens and/or resources.. and potentially keep your shovel.
Nick wow, I’ve play this game solo and played at least 10+ play throughs... how in the world did you come across these secret rules? One of the things I missed being able to do in the board game was to revisit a location to retrieve what I left (like in the video game). I’m stoked to play another playthrough. Thx for sharing. 🤔 I wonder what else I’ve missed. 🧐
Whoa you two BLEW it out of the water nice!!! Glad to see you are both enjoying it, I wasn't too sure, but after hearing you talk about it I get it. TOTALLY a solo game through and through for me as well. I actually never played that one with anyone else. Thanks so much for doing the playthrough and review!! Is Gloomhaven next? :) hahahaha!
at 38:00 in I ask "don't you need weapon's parts to build Hacksaws?" .... only played the video-game version at 1:14:35 or so .. never seen her before ... must be in the DLC or just the board-game version
The cover of the Journal states "During a playthrough (after setup), you will go through a full day and night cycle...". i would assume, as you did, that it means start with Morning and perform the first activity which is draw an event card.
Hey awesome playthrough. One thing you guys can look at too is the advanced rules because at a point on day one you guys wanted to hide the weapon parts at the location and you can totally do that. There is a reference I. The journal to where the advanced rules are in the script book
Nice one! Colin (One Stop coop Shop) Is such an awsome guy and had a lot of fun watching you guys just owning the first chapter here haha! Love this game :D
Dang, you guys are GOOD at this game! I've played this 4 times so far, and died during the first chapter 3 times, and just got one round of chapter 2 once..... And I was never full of resources! I need to re-watch and take some notes.... Very well done.
i just bought the game and i have a few questions are you sure min 28 after a resident the noise come back to 1 then at 35, are you sure wood and gear are tokens i think they are components, so i don t think the nightraid stole from you those at 1:07:00 why the cigarrete for trade does not have a value of 1? 1:24:00 you can put 2 character to work in the workshop at the same time? by the way you make a lovely couple
Hey guys... May have been mentioned already but bandages stay on the character until they are resolved by a fate card. Kinda makes thematic sense in that some wounds may take more time to heal than others. Enjoyed your playthrough.
I know this has been posted for a while, but thought I'd respond to your wrap-up point about why you felt it was better as a solo game. You felt like, with multiple players, there is added frustration when someone makes a decision you don't agree with and then it goes badly. While I get what you mean by that, I can also see how this situation in a multi-player game adds to the realism. If you were really trying to survive with a group of people, there would be lots of situations where they would do something you disagreed with and then you had to deal with the negative consequences. So, from a game enjoyment standpoint, this might be a negative, but from the designers' perspectives, this frustration aspect seems like one more layer of realism added to the experience! Really appreciated this playthrough--I watched Rahdo's and Dice Tower's reviews of this game and wrote it off, but after watching this, I'm definitely going to look for a copy!
I swear I've never picked up a card from the Colors deck that isn't black or red - they're all pretty grim stories. The app looks pretty handy. It's cool to have that option but I would hate if a game requires it.
there is no need you go under fitting card to place a fitting card " Number 300 in Scripts book : The Action icon shown next to the Fittings deck does not indicate that Characters must clear the path to this place. The whole deck placed on the Fittings space is available immediately and at any point of the game. The Characters must only clear the path to the space where a new Fitting will be placed."
Looking at the BGG reference I’m surprised to see quite a bit of expansion, special, add ons. Very interesting. I wonder if it will come with future expansion packs..... themes or structured “stories”. It could have zombies.....
Great playthrough Anthony and Frances, really enjoyed this and while I prefer competitive games to co-ops, this looks like a pretty good adaptation of the video game. I am going to think about getting it. Also if you don't know This War of Mine video game is based on a real world event, Siege of Saravejo which is the capital of Bosnia that remained under siege for 4 years from 1992 to 1996 during the Bosnian War.
Two people talking but saying the same things, as if they are one person, even though they dont have to agree with each other, each person adding to what the other is saying. God damn, I wish my relationship ends up like that too.
You dont play every character as if its bound to you. The person that got the journal controls the WHOLE group. Others can voice their opinion, but the person with the journal has to move the whole group. You cooperative control the group as team..not every player got his own figurine. You got to see the group as 1 player. RTFM? =)
Pity i found a number of niggling flaws that just makes this game a laugh for every now and then. Don't play this game expecting to win, don't expect for the game to give you a chance at any success, and or don't expect things to make any kind of actual sense. If you throw those things out the window, you'll have a blast playing it. These are my nitpicks: Journal entries do not give you enough options. More to the point they don't give you logical options for any given situation. Many are just useless, giving you story and nothing you could actually make any use of during play. Most of the other options lies within two types. You lose your stuff and waste precious time, or someone of your group dies. Some story segments of these are unavoidable. The worst of these story events give you false options leading to either 'death or death', or 'lose your stuff or death'. One of the weakest aspects of the game is combat. A homeless bunch of hungry people are better fighters than any character you play that would have experience in combat. If a character fights, prepare for them to die or have a slim chance to become mortally wounded (the character may as well have died). You can get unlucky very easily and when it happens, you may never recover. Die rolls are against you in almost all instances. Last but not least, if none of your initial starting characters survive by the end of the game, you lose. The video game is garbage. The amount of things that could actually be done were removed (never implemented) to make the game unrealistic and harder? Only allowed to scout one building? Only allowed to send out one person? Not allowed to trade with people living at location? Stuck in a single "home base"? Sorry no. If you are scavenging and you have numbers, you work in teams and hit various locations simultaneously. You can search more than one place in the same night even with just a single team. If places are inhabited you have the option to negotiate with them including asking if they wish to join your base. If your base is compromised, you always have the ability to move even if it may not be the best option. In actuality, if you have the numbers, you'd have multiple safe houses around to pause at and store stuff.
This was really fun to watch. A great game. Well done guys! :D

It is written in the manual that after chapter 1 event you're supposed to drag one more event card from the event pile

Tom Teaches It was pure luck. We had many failed runs at this.

fantastic walkthrough.
I’m about to get it.
This review really helped.
I like it👍

a 4 player-playthrough would be insane, still brutal and fun
ohhh please keep going :) I really want to see chapter 2 and what happens with the 4 people in the house.
Elizabeth Giebler that is how I felt when I played with my wife. I love this game. The stories are so fun to read!!!
I swear I've never picked up a card from the Colors deck that isn't black or red - they're all pretty grim stories.

Nice video and great channel! Subscribed :-)

Steve George oh god. I pray they don't paste zombies onto this deep, emotional "game"
I dont know if its your playthroughs or the review of each game at the end, but you two are making me spend alot of money. I NEED HELP. LOL
Magdiel Escobar Thanks! There are far worse things we could be spending our money on.
Ant Lab Games
I Agree. Now tell that to my wife. Jajajajaja
But jokes aside. Your channel is amazing. Can't wait to see more.
Agreed with the solo assessment. I like this game but don't have an ambition to show it off. Max I would go..... two.

Another awesome video! love the channel...now where to buy that Ant Lab shirt??? Keep up the great work!!
Hi , Will your Palace of Mad king ludwig video return? Thanks guys, love your content.
Excellent playthrough as always...have you ever thought of having a picture in picture in a corner?
I really enjoyed the video game. Sounds like this is just as punishing.
Was this played with just the base game or with expansions or other "upgrades"?
pyridian base game

Esse jogocombina muito com tabuleiro,
Maz achei o setup muito poluído.
Luiz Quintanilha Já viu ele no tabletop na steam? Muito bom!
Annie Goulart
Valeu Annie.
Mas acho estranho jogo de tabuleiro no computador.
Luiz Quintanilha No tabletop fica sensacional! Depois dá uma olhada.
You can't put multiple characters on a fittings card. Only 1 per turn...so you guys cheated a little... :P
The same fittings card that is...
theDiRTYeightSUPER Yeah good catch. Although I don’t think it really helped us all that much in the end.
