Yeah people want to know how 'stuff is done' but I think that takes the fun out of it.
I did the back stage stuff for our Halloween show at Great Adventure with magic being performed. When you said it's alot of work, it is, but it's a gas to esp. see the happy faces of all ages.
We had 3 big phoney smoke machines & one really messed up & wouldn't turn off. The car we made disappear & reappear was kind of hard to see but it added to the creep factor big time! The Zombies danced to music;'Thriller'.
That happened on the Batman set too. There was so much smoke I don't know how they could see to drive the Batmobile.
Then once the car broke down so Batman & Robin jumped out & got the bad guys on foot! (ha, ha)
Batman bragged that he had a bigger 'chest' then me, & I said;" Yeah...But mine doesn't go in a washing machine." The crew cracked up laughing.

I know nobody will believe this flying, but it’s real and they just don’t want you to know it is real.

The background makes it so you can't see the wires. Same with when extreme magicians fly off of buildings in daylight.
There's a reason he is wearing that loose shirt...
1mm ropes carrying 100kg and hip harness and railings that follow the path flight. No magic here just optical illusion be real.
The real magic is the stage team and the audience. To bring joy and surprise to an audience is magic.
For the engineering and workmanship give due credit. I realize they were just doing a job but..
What's more interesting is how to turn the idea into the engineering and machinery that did the lifting.

I hope magic does lose its audience, with all the exposure on youtube, its hard to appreciate the art.
It's doing the exact opposite. It's bringing a lot of new people into magic and making it more accessible to people who want to learn. Just because you know how a trick is done doesn't make it any less fascinating when it's done well. Magic still requires skill that has to be learned and practiced, and simply knowing how a trick works doesn't mean just anyone can perform it.

The audience member should have asked them to put the lid on top of the box and compared the width of the lid relative to the box, or asked for a tape measure. Look at frame in 5:42 and you should spot it, and notice they always pass the lid parallel to the box.

That is true, the camera also ducks when going round to hide the side view of the top of the box. But we all know he can’t really fly and so does David. He is always the first to admit its illusion and even though I know how the trick is done it is truly an impressive piece of art and entertainment. Hope he comes to U.K. in the future.
