When I was a kid, I admired the precision of his work as much as the wonder of the illusions themselves. I took away so much from the way he and his team choreographed Heaven On The 7th Floor so that the doors opened on the beat, and his silhouette appeared at the exact moment the intensity of the song increased. Stunning, stunning, stunning attention to detail that’s inspired me to this day.

I actually saw this LIVE, in person, back in Fall of 1991. I was 12 years old at the time. David had a show at the Rajah Theater (now the Santander Performing Arts Center) in my hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania. While he was walking down the aisles of the theater, David high-fived me, twice!

Rohan Padiyar David Copperfield has always been a motivation to me. Not just in magic, but in several areas in my life. I had the honors of seeing David Copperfield in person five years in a row. The first show he came 5 feet from where I was sitting. Any closer and I could have shook hands with him

I was about the same age when my Dad took me to see this live at the Orpheum in Minneapolis. I remember there being fake snow as a part of the ending of the show with the flying around. It was really magical and beautiful to watch.

Other magicians have done the "flying" but NO ONE does it like David. His presentation and using that emotional music from East of Eden makes it true masterpiece of magic.

You pretty much nailed it - families back then all used to gather after dinner to watch TV together. It was a family bonding experience. Sadly that doesn't happen anymore - one child is on their iPhone, another on their iPad, etc. Not to mention TV these days is nothing but reality shows such as My Kitchen Rules and The Bachelor.

I saw David Copperfield live with this show in Oberhausen, Germany.
And just in case, if anyone is thinking about camera tricks or special effects, I can assure you, that everything looked exactly the same as in this TV-special.
It was overwhelming to see him fly and doing the elevator-entrance with my own eyes in real live.

27 years later, David's flying illusion still baffles me, and leaves me speechless. I still haven't figured out how exactly he was able to do it, and honestly I don't want to know. He's the icon of magic in my eyes, because he knows how to appeal to the audience. Comedy, curiosity, wonder, and maybe a bit of dreaming in this case.

His 'Heaven On The Seventh Floor' elevator illusion is hands down the best entrance ever. The mood, lighting, choice of song and the beat it hits when he comes down is spectacularly executed. Too bad this presentation can never be duplicated now because of the internet and the people who revealed past illusions and spoiled it for the rest of us.

This is one of my favorite specials David did. One of the great starts of any magic show is "Heaven on the Seventh Floor". Yes it was first done by Doug Henning, but David performed it fifteen feet above the stage and can find great music to set the mood. Its sad that David no longer does anymore specials on CBS, but with the shows that give away the secrets, ruined the aww and wonder of it. Also "Grand Illusion" magic is gone. David is a great part of the 80/90's that is hard to duplicate.

I'm guessing he pre-recorded an ending for every card in the deck in such a way that it could be spliced onto the screen while the crowd was distracted by the people in the audience. That way it could be used many many times over.
Even if this isn't how it was done, it would mimic the same result. It would... give the illusion, so to speak.

Nope its a simple card force. Look it up
If I had to guess, pre arranged deck with a jack of spades glued to the backs of every card with a light adhesive (like the glue from post it notes) there's a name for that type of trick deck can't remember it
But at its heart, it's a card force. Magicians have a million and one different card forces
