I have been using lume for about 3 months now and I love it I just recently about a month ago started using the soap I will not use anything other than the lume soap it makes your skin feels so soft almost like silk and I have noticed that I do not sweat as much using it anywhere I've been using the tangerine and I also use the unscented below the belt because I am very sensitive to certain things I break out very easily so the soap is so amazing I absolutely love it and I think if you have not tried it it's worse a try it lathers up like no other soap I have ever used

      I would rather you “soap
“ than synthetics on my body, not my face though, but I also only expect it to cleanse my skin, some times of the year when it is dry out I cannot use it but I want to. 😅
Soap will not moisturize , soften, smooth, reduce sweating, anti-aging, or any other advertising hook.
The pH is too high during the process for any of these ingredients to survive the saponification process.
The pH is high in ALL products labeled “soap” 9.0-11.0 and our skin is 4.5- 5.6 pH so it is very alkaline and harsh for some people with a dry sensitive skin.
You cannot make soap moisturizing by adding extra oils or whatever because it changes the integrity of it and it may be formulated into something else but soap is cleansing. Very cleansing so it might be a plus for people who use natural deodorants.
I am not kicking Lume, just letting people know what they can expect from it.

  • @LumeDeodorant
    @LumeDeodorant 4 ปีที่แล้ว +680

Thanks for taking the time to post another video! Lume actually works a bit differently and is not an antibacterial product. Lume creates a protective barrier on your skin that prevents bacteria from digesting bodily fluids that lead to odor. This allows both the bacteria and bodily fluids to hang out on our skin, but Lume prevents the odor-causing reaction from happening. We have found that clothing plays a huge role in the level of odor control you receive since Lume does not mask odor. We do always recommend pre-treating your clothing with an enzyme spray like Nature's Miracle to ensure you are working with a clean slate when beginning your journey with Lume. Certain fibers (man-made) can accelerate the BO process and benefit from continuing treatment after each wear. Everyone's body is different so it is a matter of finding out what works well for you. 😊

Lume worked for me for a while and then stopped working. I don’t believe it’s reasonable to expect to get 72 hours out of it at all. My first purchase worked great and I bought a sample pack for myself and my daughter to try the scents and it wasn’t effective anymore. I think it is expensive but I would still purchase if it worked for me. What I don’t like about the company is that they wouldn’t post my honest review, it was true and fair and 3 stars but they only have 5 star reviews on the site. I think it's best to maybe use a few days a week when you plan on being most active. I am one of those that had to stop using Lume after a few months because my clothes had such a horrible smell that I had to throw them out. I didn't like the smell out of the tube, but it didn't smell bad on my skin and it did keep my skin smell free. However, the stink from the clothing and in my shoes (I used it on my feet as well) was horrible. I tried pretreating the armpit and crotch areas with enzyme spray, I fully washed with BacOut, I "stripped" my clothes, etc. It was the grossest smell I've ever had. I've used natural deodorants for 20+ years and have never had this happen before. I appreciate this video that helps me understand why it didn't work for me.

The reason it stops working isn’t because of buildup on the body. Mandelic acid doesn’t build up on skin, it breaks down skin because it acts as a chemical exfoliant. It is also water soluble so it washes away very easily from the skin.
The reason it stops working for some people is because the “demographics” of the microbiome of your armpit is shifting and the bacteria that are less affected by the mandelic acid are predominant.
To fix this you basically have to “reset” your microbiome by either not using a deodorant product for a week or two (varies a lot from person to person) or switching temporarily to an aluminum-based product. Other “natural” deodorants aren’t a good option because they usually contain essential oils, baking soda, or other PH disrupters that will only make your stinky bacteria happier in the long run, especially if you have sensitive skin prone to inflammation.
Using alcohol-free baby wipes throughout the day or micellar water to rinse your armpits on your lunch break might also help during your “reset” week.
It’s possible that consuming less carbohydrates, more leafy greens, and more anti-inflammatory foods will also help support hormonal function that could make your skin less friendly to stinky microbes. Avoid inflammatory ingredients like alcohol and fried foods. Drink more ginger tea. Probiotics might also help. Everyone is different, though.

A child can’t process protein and therefore needed meds to help. The meds made her smell like a rotting fish, nothing worked to mask the smell. The teacher couldn’t have her in her classroom, someone sent her Lume and she tried it on herself first. She tried it on her daughter and was amazed that this horrible smell from meds was gone. You can imagine what this did for her sweet child. So far this is the best story regarding Lume.

My understanding is that you are still supposed to use a traditional antiperspirant under your arms if you are a sweat-er, and put the Lume around the armpit area to help more. But ultimately the product was designed for genital areas (and toes and belly buttons for some) where people don't typically put antiperspirant. I think too many people are spending too much time discussing armpits with this product.

Best thing for wetness is proper undergarments, which women have been told to ditch for years thanks to fashion. But the real secret to long lasting *clothes* is wearing a sweat wicking cotton undergarment between your skin and daily clothing whenever possible.
As someone who has battled hyperhidrosis since single digits, I can attest that nothing short of medical intervention or chemical application will affect how your body perspires. It sucks, but science isn't there yet.

I am in the process of shopping around right now and trying to find the right natural deodorant for me.
Although you said that we're all different and the only way to know what works on us is to try, your info pretty clearly told me this is not the one for me. And that's useful info as I can skip over Lume now and go on to the next.
It was the part about mandelic acid being prevalent in Lume. At my age, if I know one thing about my skin is that ANYTIME, I use any ingredient that has the word "acid" in it, my skin is going to BURN.
By now, I've pretty well tried every one you could think of in face washes and creams. Even if the ingredient is way at the bottom of the list. It never fails to happen. If it says the work "acid" my skin will feel like it's burning. My skin is pretty sensitive that way. And I know FOR SURE to that AHAs never fail to do this to me.
Personally though, deodorants are fine for me. I dont get that wet naturally All I want it to do is to prevent odor, and hopefully to have a pretty scent that lasts all day long. I dont personally need much else from a deodorant. I tried new one yesterday and it made pits feel TOO dry, which did not feel good.
So now I know I should skip over Lume and go on to the next one. That info was really useful to me. 👍

Been using Lume for 2 months now (unscented version). Well, it has stopped working! I recently started getting that sour onion underarm smell again. I began suspecting that my shirts were the cause, thinking that the residual smell from older shirts was the culprit (that smell is hard to wash out). So I went out and bought new white undershirts and started experimenting. It’s my pits that are causing the smell after just one wearing from new and washed! If anything I over apply Lume so there is no under-application to blame! On a side note, I have noticed that the unscented I use has only three holes for products to be dispensed from compared to the videos I’ve seen of scented ones that have a dozen or so holes. Really thought I’d won the fight over stinky pits and frustrated yet again that I’ve got to search for something new for the 15 or 16 time! I don’t mind sweating! I just hate the stink that my warm pits start exuding half way through my day.

Try AOS: Art Of Sport. It comes in deodorant and an antiperspirant. I've only used the aluminum free all natural deodorant and it's amazing!! I used to sweat a lot and had to use Certain Dry every night but now I'm free if that hassle!! I'd seriously try it, the shit is awesome and it smells even better. I use Victory but others say the other scent's are great too. I believe they started selling it at Target but you can also get it at Amazon. But be careful if you want an all natural product do you want the deodorant and not the antiperspirant, The antiperspirant has aluminum in it but the deodorant does not. I hope you love it too!! Lmk is it with for you. I'm there only person I know that uses it so if love to hear what others have to say about it.

I developed an allergic reaction. It gave me what looked acne spots, just two or three under each armpit. The spots would not heal or go away. I stopped using the deodorant and the spots turned into small dark almost chemical burn like spots at site were the “acne” spots were. They haven’t gone away even after months. Initially it was great, the reaction took about six weeks. It may just be my reaction to it.

The sweat stains on like white shirts actually is caused by the antiperspirant. Once I quit using antiperspirant I didn't have those marks. And honestly, antiperspirant doesn't stop my pits from sweating anyway so it really just doesn't make sense for me personally to continue putting aluminum on my skin which ultimately absorbs into the body.

    SO PROUD OF YOU!! 🥰🥰🥰
I am a chemist 👩‍🔬 I am a new Lume user & just watched your 2019 video (and, commented.)
The long term effects for me remain to be seen.
Glad you realized Lume is just a deodorant & not an anti-perspirant. I need a deodorant since menopause 🥴 BIG TIME!!!! Coincidentally, my perspiration lessened with Lume.
I LOVE THE SOAP - the lime is GOAT!
FYI - perspiring is your bodies way of regulating its self. So allow yourself to perspire. Instead of trying not to perspire, figure out what makes you perspire and alter that. For me, I look at a staircase and start sweating. I have one of those conditions that I sweat a lot. I hate it. But it is what it is. But just remember that we sweat because we have to. It’s what your body needs to do at that time. And as my mother always said, “ladies don’t sweat, they glisten.“ Just make sure you have on some pretty good waterproof make up.
*** so far, I only have to apply Lume twice per week. So it still is worth smelling like a rotting dead squirrel for 12 to 16 hours. I’m hoping they figure out how to get rid of that smell. I’ve noticed in older reviews people don’t complain about that smell. So there must be some component that’s causing that smell to leech out. And since many of the reviews I’ve read people are smelling this stench right out of the container then we all know it’s not related to the body chemistry. Or maybe after certain pair of time it starts smelling. So the shelflife may not be what they think it is. Who knows. Science experiments can be so much fun, lol. But I ordered the complete unscented collection. And it was rank stank. I returned it and I got the tri-it sized sampler of the two deodorants. The only one I liked was the line. I also ordered four soaps. The only soap I liked was the lime. All the others the rotting roadkill smell was too much. I also ordered the wipes. I’m I am not impressed with them. They don’t smell like roadkill. But they don’t smell good either. They aren’t very thick, which is good for plumbing. But I don’t flush my wipes anyway. But they fall apart, easily. One does not want their finger breaking through, if you know what I mean. And one’s finger broke through. No Bueno! If the wipes were priced comparable to Cottonelle, for example, then I wouldn’t be offended. But at $15 per pack, very offended. They should be much better quality

It smells awful and you have to be paid off or unable to smell, to think it doesn't. I'd compare the smell to yak cheese. I tried Tangerine and Unscented deodorant sticks and all the Sun And Sand deodorant tubes (Lavender, Jasmine, Tangerine, Coconut, Vanilla) and all of them have the same unpleasant smell. The 'warm vanilla' soap smells exactly like Play Doh. None of the scents smell like what they are described to be. It does NOT stop sweating. Wearing it, is awful because you have to constantly smell it everywhere you go.

People shouldn’t put it inside. It’s not suppose to sink into the skin which is a good reason for the molecules to be too large for absorption. But it could be some people’s bodies also don’t work with the various essential oils. I say start with the unscented deodorant and maybe try the soaps in the scents. Go to the website and read the ingredients for yourself and like she said, everyone is different. For me the aluminum salts are causing rashes and causing issues even though they work. But The doctor said as we age we can build up intolerance to aluminum salts which is what keeps us dry. You don’t want to use cornstarch because that can start a yeast overload - it feeds yeast. And baking soda didn’t work well either - caused abrasions.
Also, your health can govern the smells. Back 20 years ago when I started with liver disease I had to stop using all perfumes, many lotions, it seemed that no matter what I used, the toxicity of the liver just gave my skin a bad smell and interacted with everything I used. It was so disappointing that I couldn’t use what I had used for decades. But that was the deal I got handed. Certainly diabetes can change skin scent and urine smells too. As can asparagus, and other foods including certain spices. I have some lotions I can use now finally but perfumes are still an issue. I have been thinking about trying some of the naturally expelled/extracted perfumes - no chemicals and no alcohol. They are expensive - might even try to find one of the shops that makes a scent just for you.
Again… please check the Lume website and the unscented to start with. That way you can accurately judge whether it works or not before adding another scent to the panel.

I have been wearing Lume for the last 7 months and I love it. I have had very strong body odor (underarms) since I was around 6 years old (yes 6!) My mother and grandmother tried everything natural they could find to help me, but nothing worked. Eventually my mother gave me secret deodorant and it worked until I reached the age of 17. At seventeen it would only work maybe 4 hours a day. I would have to take multiple wash-ups through the day and reapply deodorant so that wouldn't smell. I started spending a lot of money on every deodorant I could find (including mens deodorant). I really wanted to find something that would work on my odor for at least 24 hours. Now I'm in my early 40s and I started taking 2 showers a day and 1-2 wash-ups a day, applying degree deodorant to keep my sweating and odor down. Lume is the first deodorant I've found that keeps me from smelling for at least 48 hours. It definitely changed my life. I use it also in my pubic area and no matter how much I may sweat somedays, I never have an odor. I'm praying that my body doesn't adjust to it and cause it to stop working.

Goodness, this is ridiculous. No, acid is not “building up in your body.” It could be that the product is discouraging certain bacteria from proliferating on the skin while allowing other bacteria which are more acid-tolerant to take over, which could be just as smelly or even smellier than the original bacteria.

  • @lisaeverson2510
    @lisaeverson2510 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Thanks for taking the time to give a great honest break down. I use Lume and am very happy with it. It is the only product I've used that doesn't break me out or create a buildup that actually ends up creating more odor. I am very sensitive and feel good about the ingredients and company. However, it does not control all of my underarm stink. It does control odor in other parts of my body and works great for my husband. I noticed that it was at certain times that it didn't work. I have discovered from my doctor that bacteria is only one of the causes of odor. Since starting menopause, there is a new underarm odor at certain times that nothing takes care of. NOTHING. And my doctor said to stop looking because nothing will work on that odor. It isn't from bacteria. I have started using shields when I notice it starting so I can a least not ruin my cloths. There is also truth to nervous sweet having it's own odor which also has nothing to do with bacteria. So I find it effective and feel good about the ingredients, but it isn't a one size fits all miracle cure for odor.

I first used Lume a couple of years ago. I didn’t like the color or texture, but I loved how it worked at keeping odors away. I preferred the unscented. Then, I noticed the packaging changed and so did the color and texture of product. A big fail, for me. I reached out to company and was told that in order to make it a “clean beauty” product, they removed PEG-100 and two other ingredients. Well, now it’s just as worthless to me as every other so-called clean, natural junk out there. This may be TMI, but my underarms smelled worse than ever. I couldn’t get a half day in, let alone their claim of 48 hours or so. Back to DK Cashmere Mist. Oh, Lume did offer to refund my purchase less $5 and $1 for each additional return. I had already trashed the bundle I bought though. To those who like the product, I do envy you.

I wouldn’t care but I get chub rub aka heat rash, irritation or whatever you want to call it. Which then means I have to use a second product to treat that bc it’s UBER painful. Sooo all that to say I STILL USE IT bc IT WORKS but less so in the summer. I’m in Florida and I have to have an antiperspirant in the dog days of summer. My sister got me a bottle of Lume for Christmas. I tried it several times. Here's what happened every time:
    1) Applied Lume. No odor! Yay!
    2) By the end of the day, the area where the Lume was applied broke out in a red, super-itchy rash.
    3) Washed off the Lume and let my skin calm down.
    4) After a few days, the area where the skin had rashed up started peeling. The skin sloughed off in the shower.

I've been using it for about a week and love it. I was concerned about sweating, since it isn't an antiperspirant, but haven't come across that issue yet.
Update: I've found that some of my shirts caused odor. Got some Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover to pretreat the underarms before tossing them in the laundry bin.

I'm going to put this simple. If you take an appetite suppressant supplement, it's your intention to eat less. If you seek out lume products, it's your intention to bathe less. Therefore, it's likely most people don't have a body odor problem, but a proper and consistent bathing problem. Also, I think baths are supreme. But you don't just soak. You stand up thoroughly bathe, sit down to soak, stand up again, thoroughly bathe and sit down to soak for the final time. That's how you take a bath. If you just sitting in there like your doing a commercial and never bathing. You're just wet and dirty afterward. A lot of people were not raised properly on how to bathe and differences in cultures play a role as well. No woman should be under the impression that a shower is suffice for her. You have equipment on the inside as opposed to men's equipment on the outside. You got to soak! All the women have been involved with were extremely clean women and their primary method of bathing was always....always a bath.

I had been using Lume since Feb 2021, wipes and deodorant daily. It worked great until the past 2-3 months I noticed I had an unfamiliar loud odor. Generally my underarm stink always just smelled like most people when they sweat, kinda musty; then my smell down there was a normal feminine smell unless I did something to make me sweat like going to the gym. So when this random odor showed up and it smelled the same above and below the belt I was like what the heck? Right after showering I'm good but if I get warm at all throughout the day then the odor is back as if I just ran a sweaty marathon. I stopped using Lume last month when I realized it likely had something to do with it but didn't understand how. I thought today maybe my pH was off or something but didn't have full understanding of pH aside from feminine pH. I also didn't know Lume was acidic either. Glad I found this video as it helps confirm my suspicions. Now I have to figure out how to get things rebalanced back to my normal smell I had before using Lume. Really wish I knew all this beforehand but you live and learn I guess. Thanks for the video

I used lume for many months. I used the deodorant stick, whole body deodorant, the soap bars triple milled , acidified soap bar, and the acidified body wash multiple times. Personal the acidified soap bar is too expensive and didn't work well for smells and isn't lathering enough. The whole body deodorant and deodorant stick work really well. Except I notices that after a while my armpits smelled worse so I switched back to regular deodorant that helped. And the body wash and triple milled soap bar work really well for removal of smell and maintaining fresh all over body.

If Mandalic Acid alters PH level in order to get rid of odor causing “bacteria”... What could be happening is the LUME is getting rid of “Good Bacteria” on the skin which can then open up the door for “YEASTS & FUNGUSES” to proliferate and multiply.
I tried LUME, I have a Candida problem myself which causes me a lot of extra odor since I became ill with it. And I can tell you that LUME’ didn’t even make a dent in the odor between my toes. As for my armpits, they didn’t smell like my usual stinky Body Odor, however they did smell MUSTY. Another reviewer said the same and I was like what does she mean “musty”? Well, after I got the product and tried it, I had a “MUSTY” odor 12-24 hours after applying. It was gross. The reviewer that mentioned “MUSTY” also has since reviewed “Hudson Pure”. She said it blew the LUME away. I then bought the Hudson Pure and I am blown away. It works!

I've been using Lume for about year now. I knew when I purchased it that is was only a deodorant. it is not an anti-perspirant. I'm fine with that because I don't sweat that much where I feel I need the chemicals to stop perspiration. I have used Lume on other parts of my body and it works fantastic. I love this product and will continue to use it. I did notice that after several months of use, it wasn't as effective on my armpits as when I first started but I remedied that with really scrubbing my armpits with a washcloth with hot water and soap to remove bacteria and then it seemed to go back to working great again. I'm not sure why that happens but that's all I needed to do to get it back to 100% working. Even if you decide you need an antiperspirant, Lume is still great on the other parts of the body that sometimes don't smell so great. It's definitely my favorite new product of 2019/2020 so far.
