Hi Sarah. Thanks for your video. I really appreciate it. I need your advice. I’m a side sleeper but usually sleep with my arm under the pillow. The wrong pillow puts my arm to sleep which wakes me up. What options would be best for me?
1 pillow? Are people switching sides and rolling in place? I have to roll to the other side of the bed, which entails swapping body pillows between my legs, 1 on each side! I'm a 4 pillow kind of guy, plus having one against my back to feel snuggled in really helps.
I have six pillows. Also literally surrounded by pillows. Not sure why more people don't do this. It's heaven. Now that I've watched this video though, I definitely need a better neck pillow. Currently two pillows-one folded-neck gang.
I'm with you, Paul! A feather/down pillow on top of a polyfil pillow for under my head (side sleeper), a dense polyfil pillow between the knees/legs, and a dense polyfill in the small of my back. It really is a nice cozy feel and gives lots of support.
Eli and Elm, Satva and the Birch all look good. This past weekend, I bought an Obasan Wool Pillow for both myself and my husband. Hoping it works like the Eli and Elm. I'm planning on buying two more pillows, so these are now on my list.
I'm a side sleeper and I have a tempur pedic ☁️ mattress, so I end up sinking into my mattress. I bought the tempur pedic cooling pillow because I sleep hot. Unfortunately for me it's too lofty so my head ends up being very high from my mattress. I appreciate that you've tested all these different brands! I am overwhelmed though, help? Lol thanks in advance for your help! - A
The Saatva pillow looks best for me as I constantly turn all night due to back problems and sometimes even place my pillow between my knees to provide better ease of pain.
I already have the Eli & Elm and it's awesome, but I really like that Saatva pillow with both latex and down alternative, but favorite materials of mine.
I just bought the Eli and Elm pillow. Its awesome! My neck hurts when my pillow is too thick and my shoulder hurts when my pillow is too low(or thin?). What I do is I push the filling to the sides so that there’s not much filling in the middle. No more neck and shoulder pain. I hope it doesn’t lose its shape as on commenter said ☹️
I'm looking for an adjustable cooling pillow for side sleepers. is the (Dream Rite Shredded Hypoallergenic Memory Foam Pillow WonderSleep Series Luxury Adjustable Loft Home Pillow Hotel Collection Grade Washable Removable Cooling Bamboo Derived Rayon Cover- Queen 1 Pack) a good choice for me?
I could really use your help. I sleep on my side then to stomach and switch sides. I have my arm raised under my pillow with arm bent. Only way I can sleep but doing this I do get neck stiffness around my spine in neck. What pillow will help
I really thought I would likely go with the Tempur-Pedic because I really tend to like the feel of memory foam, but Sarah really sold me on the Eli and Elm Organic Side Sleeper. I'm loving the ergonomic design and the fact that the fill is adjustable so I can make it as lofty as I like. Thanks so much for these great side sleeper reviews!
Oh wow first the best mattresses for side sleepers and now the best PILLOWS for a side sleeper? I feel so spoiled ...thank you for these, its a tough choice between the Purple Harmony Pillow for every night use or the Layla Kapok Pillow for when my shoulder pain is acting up but they are all great pillows. Thank you for another great in depth review!
I'm going to try the Layla, mainly because my huge head has flattened many a pillow. I also like the return policy which I fully intend to utilize if I don't like it.
I didn't have good luck with the Layla Kapok pillow. they even sent me more filling but I couldn't stop it from flattening out. I do have very broad shoulders and weigh 275 lbs but it just didn't work for me i'm thinking of trying the Purple Harmony pillow.
I would honestly love to feel and try all of these pillows! BUT, if I had to choose, I would pick out the Eli and Elm, Luxe down and Layla. Great selections, and I love the reviews!
I'm a side sleeper but can move around as well. I like all the options here but my 1st choice would be the Saatva. It sounds amazing! The Eli and Elm also sounds comfortable and the other one I would like to consider would be the Tempur Pedic memory foam pillow because I love that it comes with a cooling gel layer on both sides.
I really like the Eli & Elm pillow for the shape that let's a person's shoulder lay on the mattress rather than on the pillow. My shoulder hurts now and then from it laying on the pillow when I'm on my side. The Eli and Elm has a nice soft cover and plenty of loft that makes me think it would be great for me.
I really like the Tempur Cloud Breeze and the Purple Harmony. I love Cloud Breeze for that memory foam feel that i love so much and the outside layer of cooling gel to keep you cool all night. I also love the Harmony because its made of a solid slab of talalay latex with ventilated holes to keep you cool. Its kind of nice that the whole pillow is wrapped in a thin layer of their hyper elastic polymer material. I would be happy with either of these two great pillows. I just wish they were more affordable
Hey there, yes they are very similar in a lot of ways! The difference really comes down to materials, as the Easy Breather is filled with shredded memory foam, while the Eli & Elm is filled with Kapok and shredded latex. This makes the Easy Breather a bit firmer, and the Eli & Elm a bit fluffier! Personally, I prefer Eli & Elm because it's a little easier to shift the stuffing around within the pillow itself.
@@Sleepopolis Sleepopolis interesting, thanks so much for reply Sarah! I personally prefer quite firm pillows because I don't like sinking too deep. I like the idea of the latex which is more bouncy as you've said before. Is the Easy breather firm enough for people who don't like their head sinking in? Or would the bouncy and airy feel of the Eli and Elm latex better keep my head from sinking too deep? Thanks in advance!
So I got a question, I really like the Eli and elm pillow but I’m allergic to latex. I get a rash on the area of contact. Is the case going to protect me from the latex or am I going to have to replace the filling?
Hi. Looking for a pillow recommendation. First, I’ll say I’ve watched a bunch of your videos all of which were really helpful. I’m a side sleeper so naturally I’d want a loftier and firmer pillow. I’d want something that doesn’t get too hot as well. Also, I tend to sleep towards the edge of the pillow and find that the filling often shifts to the rest of the pillow leaving me a very low loft. I thought the Purple Harmony might be good but want to hear your thoughts. Lastly, do you think that a new pillow could help with lower back pain or is that more of a mattress issue? I am planning to get a TemperPedic mattress topper. Thanks
I’m a little upset because I’m looking for a nice side sleeper pillow for side sleepers and was interested in the Eli and elm but they don’t come in king and same with the harmony pillow. Those were my top 2 picks.
Hi Sara What would I go for if I tuck my arm under the pillow? I would say I am between side and stomach sleeper somthing in between(I sleep on my side but tend to lean on to my stomach a bit) There are pillows marketed as arm pillows with an arm hole or a tunnel. Any thoughts on my condition. The neck and shoulder pain is horrible! I'v tried tempur pillows and down pillows
I'd steer clear of latex if you're allergic. It's going to be right next to your face every night for approx. 8 hours. My sister's been told by doctors to stay away from latex bedding for her daughter who has the same issue.
How long will the layla pillow last. From what I remember reading is that the pillow would only last for six months. And how long will the tempurpedic pillow and bedding last without softing. I'm wondering out of all these pillows which memory foam pillow would last longer than a year. Out of the Eli pillow, birch, and luxe down which pillow would relieve pressure better for neck and back pain. Oh and the nectar pillow didn't make this list I guess. But I'm also wondering how long the nectar pillow would last for. Are nectar pillows worth buying.
Eli&Elm love the shape specific for neck pain which definitely have, purple harmony another maintained loft a plus, Layla looks like such a snuggly fit, certainly would love to have them all for rotation purposes too😍
Have you tried the Sutera pillow? I flip flop from side to back, but mainly am a side sleeper with excruciating neck/shoulder pain with headache when I get up in the morning.
Which would you recommend for me...I’m a 6’6” 205# male average build. I’m split between the Layla Kapok or the Coop Home Goods Original with maybe some extra fill. Currently sleeping on a Purple Harmony high loft, it’s decent but not great. Thanks!
Hey there, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I'm not a medical expert and have very little experience with this syndrome. However, you might want to check my full article on Best Pillows for Neck Pain on sleepopolis.com, as I do consult a medical expert and incorporate his advice throughout my pillow recommendations. That said, I think a firmer, memory foam pillow that conforms to the precise contours of your head and neck might be your best bet. For that, I suggest you look into Tempur-Pedic pillows (you can find a roundup of those on sleepopolis.com and our TH-cam channel as well!)
Question: is there a pillow designed to alleviate shoulder pain for sidesleepers who support their head with both hands, not just one? All these photos show people either tucking their off hand under the full weight of their body or dangling it free?
Hmmm.....so the Coop isn't included in this list of best for side sleepers? That's odd, since Consumer Reports recently rated them so highly and you have rated them highly in past videos. What is it about the Coop now that you don't like for side sleeping? Thanks!
I'd like to try the Eli & Elm, because you can adjust it and I like the shape. I'd like to see if it helps with the neck pain I get sometimes. The Layla also seems really nice
Quick question, I see you list other pillows that would be good to sleep with an arm under, but is the Eli & Elm comfortable to sleep with an arm under as well?
I could use an opinion. I like the idea of the pillow-in-pillow design but I'm not sure about whether to try the tempur pedic down pillow or the casper. I'm a side sleeper and sometimes back sleeper. I'm currently using a my pillow but the stuffing shifts to the back of the pillow and I'm catching myself needing to flip it a lot. And it's lumpy. :( The loft of it seems appropriate for me though. I'm afraid that the casper might fall too flat (I don't tend to support (squish?) or fold my pillows under my face very much) but the tempur pedic price and lack of return policy is scary. Lol. Are there other brands to explore that are like this? I like the idea of a downy feeling layer, with some added support. Thank you so much for any help you can offer!!
Love the videos! I am a combo side/ back sleeper with also shoulder pain and lots of neck pains lol. Would you still recommend the Eli&Elm? Have you ever heard of sutera? Really have tried so many pillows 🤣 thanks for your videos!
Thank you for these pillow choices. I am looking for a new pillow to replace an old reliable in the tempurpedic comfortpillow which I would buy again if it wasn’t only available as a travel version. I also sleep on my side more than my back now because of a previous medical issue so I am looking for comfort. What would you say, based on the video, is the best choice. I will also say the harmony has been tried but did not work.
Hey there - Can you tell me what you didn't like about the Purple Harmony? If you prefer a moldable memory foam feel, definitely check my full Tempur-Pedic pillows review. The TEMPUR-Neck, in particular, might suit you best now that you're strictly side sleeping, but there are some great options for back and side sleepers as well!
Sleepopolis when I took the purple out of the box I liked the feel of it even though the checkered pattern was slightly distracting. It with a pillow case I was fine. When it came time to lay down, my major issue was the height. I felt like I was bending my neck awkwardly and with other issues and anxiety, my throat flared like I was constructing my airwave. So I stopped immediately and went back to my old comfortpillow. I double checked the dimensions of it to see why I had an issue and my tempurpedic measured 25 x 18 x 3 so I think firm memory foam with a low profile is what I’m searching for now
The Eli & Elm looks sweet and the shredded insides lets you customize it. I was surprised at the Purple pillow as it looked better than what I would have imagined.
Hi my kid has asthma so my doctor suggested to make him sleep on slanted pillow since the angle on the pillow allows his breathing but he is a side sleeper can u suggest any pillows of that kind??
Do you have to remove the filling from the Eli and Elm pillow in order to wash the outside cover? If so does the filling coming in a separate zipper case or do you need to pull it and leave a messy pile of filling lying around until the cover is clean?
Great question and, yes, unfortunately wash care for this pillow is a bit of a hassle. You have to remove all the filling before you can wash the cover by itself. What I like to do (this is the pillow I have at home) is store all the internal fill in a separate bag (I use a garment bag that my sheets came in, but any bag will do) until the cover is ready to be filled up again!
I would love a personal recommendation! Tried to Eli & Elm side sleeper and liked it but didn’t love it. Currently trying the purple harmony pillow, and again I like the pillow but not sure right now if it’s the one for me. I did however originally order the 6.5” and may order the 7.5” to see if that makes a difference. What would you recommend?
Hi - I like to sleep with my arm under my pillow too, is the regular purple pillow a good idea for a side sleeper with their arm under their pillow? This pillow stuff is so complicated.
Haha, yes it can be very complicated. But I'm here to help! Because of the weight and density of the Original Purple Pillow, I do not find it to be ideal for the arm-under-pillow side sleeping style. The Harmony, on the other hand, worked really well, in my experience! If you're looking for a side sleeper pillow you can slip an arm under, I'd definitely go with the Purple Harmony, or another pillow that offers a plushly supportive feel (Casper Original, Saatva Pillow, Avocado Pillow are all great examples). Good luck!
Im looking for one more good pillow for my bed. I have the Layla kaypok and love it but now want something nice but differ. For a change. I like the way Eli n Elm looks but is it similar to the Layla? I am a side sleeper. The Satva dreams looks Really great for a differ feel. I'm concerned it may bottom out. The purple harmony is another thought but looks to simple for the $. If comfy I'd pay whatever. Any suggestions?
The Saatva Dreams is great and definitely a different feel. The Purple Harmony has a taller loft and a bit of a firmer feel with more bounce. depends on what ur looking for.

Thanks!
The Eli & Elm looks perfect. Will have to give it a try on my next pillow purchase. I like I could adjust if needed.
I'd like to try the Eli & Elm, because you can adjust it and I like the shape. I'd like to see if it helps with the neck pain I get sometimes. The Layla also seems really nice
Have you tested the sorta two pack, $16 at Ross?
That birch pillow looks great! I feel like as a combo sleeper I don't want something too big. The purple looks so gimmicky to me but I could be wrong.
Thank you so much for this video! Very informative and helpful, please keep making these videos!
I’ve tried so many. Always stiff neck Ugh. I want to try temper but no returns kills me.
Can you recommend any Canadian companies for side sleeper pillows?
Absolutely amazing review. Thank you..
Quick question, I see you list other pillows that would be good to sleep with an arm under, but is the Eli & Elm comfortable to sleep with an arm under as well?
If you use one of these pillows, how much do you suffer neck tension and headache or other problems?
I had the Casper and sent it back. Slept too hot
The birch pillow is so nice! It looks so fluffy!!!!
Love the videos! I am a combo side/ back sleeper with also shoulder pain and lots of neck pains lol. Would you still recommend the Eli&Elm? Have you ever heard of sutera? Really have tried so many pillows 🤣 thanks for your videos!
Try the Eli & Elm Side Sleeper!
Serious question though, do I get the e temper pedic or Eli and elm?
If you can get used to the shape of the Eli & Elm then it can be a great option
I once slept on a pillow containing GMO cotton and my life was forever changed
GMO or Non GMO? Was the forever change good or bad?
@@stephaniecrothers8482
I now have the GMO shakes and rattles
Hi my kid has asthma so my doctor suggested to make him sleep on slanted pillow since the angle on the pillow allows his breathing but he is a side sleeper can u suggest any pillows of that kind??
Excellently researched. Thanks for the advice.
Great video thanks! I use a CPAP machine a video on pillows good for that would be helpful! Ordered the Elm one just now.
I also wear a cpap (full face) and am always looking for pillows. Did this one work for you?
I like the shape and adjustable filling on the Eli & Elm side sleeper pillow. Seems like a great choice for combo sleepers.
