They should've made a Raspberry pi case version of this. The case and buttons PCB design are pretty decent enough. We probably could mod them ourselves but making things readily would save (my lazy ass) time and also would have expanded their market too. Great video btw. Looking at this a while back and thinking you'd make a review video sooner or later, So better wait and see before buying it, and I was right.
Does anybody know if you can add games to this mini arcade like you can to the regular Pandoras Box DX? I'm waiting for mine to arrive from China, can't wait.
The biggest issue by far is the 16:9 display. Even if it was a mere LCD and not an IPS, I would absolutely buy this if the screen was a proper 4:3. They do exist, 3A Games could've gone with a 4:3 display. As is, games are all stretched to an aspect ratio they weren't designed for. That's okay for some games but ruins the majority.
Is there an option to play these games at the correct aspect ratio, or is it all stretched? 16:9 screens don't make sense on devices designed to emulate systems that were made for 4:3. Thanks as always for your coverage of retro gaming devices.
I dont understand it either, systems like these and most of the other chinese handhelds are designed for retro emulation only so why not make the screen 4x3 or at least give the option in display settings to enable it 4x3 aspect ratio. If runs android OS then I understand but these dont. I cant stand forced stretched display,I mean you dont watch TV shows or movies with extra stretched display so why play games that arent meant to be stretched. Im guessing its just for marketing purposes as they may look more appealing with a wide display.
The LCD they use are probably scraps from 2010 era. Thats why its cheap. They use whatever scrap they can to reduce cost. Its not like they have R&D to give you "the best". When it reach the west prices usually almost double, as cheap as it is, so you imagine the price at China. Also their target market is always China, not us. They have billions of untap market in the rural areas.
Cant wait til mine comes in it will be here in 3 days....this review is the reason why I bought it I've been looking for a decent looking mini arcade for quite a while now it seems to run really good which is a plus for me I like that you can add console games but I'm using mine strictly for arcade only but overall this machine looks and plays incredible 😃
i found the way to make those buttons less noisy and less sensitive, just cutting the surrounding rim that hits the plastic will make them quite like normal keyboard buttons and less sensitive
am very interested in this but is there a way to connect this to a power bank for on the go gaming? If not, i'll wait until they give the option to put a cell in it and it looks like they are planning to do that. Also, no white casing for me, i prefer black, so i'm going to wait for the usual upgrade. Great price for what you get though.
I have a question. Does it have the original 1991 sonic? Because I fell in love on the game when I first ever played it in gatlinburg at a luxury cabin. But the thing what a different type of model of the same company. Does it have it?
I recently purchased one of these from m.polylabs, supposed to arrive soon. One thing emulators have yet to offer is the rotating joy sticks for games like Frontline and Ikari warriors.
For someone like me who has kids and doesn't have the time to build a retro pi. Is there a pandora box or retro pi built system you recommend that works as good as can be.
i like the design. looks very clean, comfortable, and really complements with their UI. compared to most of their products that looks either ultra tacky, or really cheap. but for that price... you can probably find others with better performance and components. albeit really ugly.

Metal Slug looked to have the utterly awful smoothing applied. And some of the variants previously did not allow you to turn this off, which would be a deal breaker for me. Are these options available?
So, I bought it. If anyone is curious, newer Taito games run pretty well. Elevator Action and Light Bringer are more than playable, with minimal slowdown.

@@gypsycatcha79 i did in the end buddy i had to give it to a friend with a computer and he had to go on the site too download the DX PROGRAMME,But i had to pay £4.95,basically a fiver to download the programme,but apart from that the programme works fine,it downloads onto a usb which then gets plugged into the side of the unit,bit of a faff really but at least it works

Great Review as always, This Arcade seems to be a good choice for only 75$ ... Except for the buttons, if you really want Arcade Experience !! But for the price, this is really decent

They look like microswitches from mechanical keyboards which are not bad, but the main issue is that they look soldered to the PCB which is a huge problem when they need replacing.

Have you tried the Pandory DX software? It fixes the aspect ratio and the speed on certain games

The sega Astro City mini pads work perfectly with this mini arcade.

put some washers between the pcb and the socket to get more distance for the switches

Those switches are outemu red. If you have pcb mounted cherry switches, you can de solder the switches and replace them

Mine version haves a sd card maybe yours is not in the slot ?
It's a Pandora DX inside so you can use thumbdrive if you want to ?

For the price and upgraded joystick I would say it’s a winner. I mean 90 bucks dude. That’s pretty damn good for the amount of quality games and all
