As a child in 50's Australia, we played "fives" with real knuckle bones. They were saved from the Sunday roast lamb dinner. I don't remember seeing the plastic copies until the late 60's. Our toys were very simple in the 50s, skipping ropes, old tins to make 'telephones' and golden syrup tins which were pierced with holes, strings added and used as stilts and pieces of wool to make fun finger games like cat's cradle. Not a piece of plastic in sight!
The koi fish is a symbol of luck, ambition, and perseverance. For centuries it has been seen as a sign of luck, abundance, and perseverance in both Japan and China.
Hi girls! Sherry from the United States here! Loved your lark this week( actually love every lark). Lol My favorite find was the ghosty rock! What a sweet face . I liked the fishy too- Frank for his name maybe? I grew up with whoooy windows, every time hear yours , I just smile so big! ❤️Makes my heart happy and I hope you never change them! Take care
Oh! I can see you making casts off that perfect little fish...please share that process if you can.....so happy to see a new video....This is so relaxing to be back to nature, doing a play on the river bank, finding random treasures. So theraputic. I used to spend my time doing this stuff. Always felt gifted by the finds....Love you two.
I agree, that is a koi fish, a lucky symbol for centuries. May it bring the two of you years of good fortune in whatever you do. Also, I have three of those adorable ghost rocks and I just love them ! Thank you for another lovely lark 😊 Love and hugs 🥰🥰 xx
I think the fish is a koi fish. They were very popular in I think Japanese culture. They are status symbols and some of them can cost thousands of dollars for one fish. Most of the ones in the USA are inexpensive compared to the ones in Japan. My parents had a beautiful pond in their backyard with two of them. They get huge but won't outgrow their pond. I love yalls channel. We don't have places like yours to hunt for treasures. We can only live the dream through your videos. Thank you for giving us that joy!! Take care. Elizabeth
I loved that smile Alex as you got up and saw your mum filming you! ❤ What a great shot of the fish on a rock! 👍☺️ Thank you Ladies for a lovely video! 💐💐
I love that bottle!!! It's so beautiful! It actually reminds me a lot of a type of mineral water bottle that was very common in Sweden the first half of the 1900s or so. We have a bunch that we found at my grandmother's old house. They're all different shades of blue-green, with swing top stoppers. Fish name suggestion: Felicia! That was my immediate thought when Alex said it should have a female name. Very cute little friend.
Hello ladies I have been meaning to tell you, I believe quit a few of the bigger, nicer beads you find are Neiger Brothers. I would think the fish is as well if it's glass. I am a vintage jewelry dealer in the USA and I collect Neiger Brothers jewelry. ❤ I love watching you ladies! I can't wait until Sundays when your videos come out. I would love to see a new crafting video when you have time to craft. Have a great week!
Hi ladies! I love love love the fish! It looks like a salmon to me. Also, I learned from you that if I'm going to stand out in the wind, to weigh myself down with a cannon ball. Thanks!😂😁😋😆😉
Hello from Geneva Switerland! Florinda Santiago
When I was a little kid in the 70s-80s we played the game of Jacks or knuckle bones for absolutely hours. We were in a rural area so WHENEVER we saw a knuckle bone on the ground, it would be scooped up. You need 5 for the game. They need to be different colours ideally. My friend’s older sister painted her bones with different colours of nail polish one summer. So we all did the same thing. Her mother wasn’t super happy about that 😂 I had one bone painted white with red spots 🙂 I was very proud of that jack 🤣 They made brightly coloured plastic sets available from the newsagents, they were shaped like small knuckles each a different bright colour. They were oookkkkk in a pinch, but it took some practice because they were so much lighter and smaller than the real bone. Good memories, good memories. I know that if I pulled out a set of “jacks” in front of my friend, we could just start a game immediately without hesitation. 😂❤ such fun.
44:40 You should make a series of videos with categories of all of your finds!! 50:15 Yes, we DO like listening to you talking about your finds!! Thank you for making your videos long. The longer the better!! They are a great investment of time. ❤😊
The fish's scales made me think it could be a carp or koi. Lucky find for you, Alex. I liked the inner working of the pocket watch, Gail. It's almost unbelievable that you'd find the back that goes to one of your dominoes, along with a pin that you can use to fix it. Wow, what a stroke of luck that is! Thank you for weighting us down with the cannonball in the banana bag while we were out in the storm. I was thrilled that you took the interesting bubbly teal drippy-lippy beer bottle home with you. My Granny Nelson (born 1893) had a pump organ she kept in Mama & Daddy's house. I remember playing it (it was very out of tune) when I was a little girl back in the '70s. Greetings and good wishes from North Carolina! ❤💙❤🩵
Maybe the fish is a netsuke? Try using a clear glass mixing bowl to see in the water. That rock with the face on it reminds me of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. ❤
Thank you both for bringing such joy every Sunday! I care for my loved one who is on hospice. She and I always look forward to living vicariously through your mudlarking adventures! Please know how much a reprieve from pain you both bring to her. She gets excited just waiting to watch your latest videos. We will watch the Manchester Mudlarks as well. Thanks again for bringing a smile to her, It means more than you know♡
love the little rock with the face, the broken leg piece at 18:48 looks like a Nutcracker hat to me, Mudlarking Barbie needs a fish, love the color of the bottle

Alex is on a roll with the little charms! Love the fish, and it's nice to see it all cleaned up, but it's lost it's lovely detail in the cleaning :( Sooooo, I hope you consider putting a rub of some kind/color on it, buffing it off so it just remains in the grooves of the pattern. I liked seeing the eyes, scales and mouth when you first washed it off after finding it. I laughed when Gail said 'Blub, blub' when showing it's funny face (at 46:58). Perhaps call it 'Blubby'
I dream of Barbie inside the bottle.. So many cute goodie finds.. little fishy.. adorable 🥰 Cute Boo stone.. Awww..i so want you both to have a fishy ... Little yellow 💛 bead...so cute and glass 💧.. Cameron the Cod!😊

I truly love y'all's channel ❤️ one of my favorite things to do is find river glass and bones. I once found a really weathered piece of milky uranium glass and it's my favorite piece since I collect uranium glass. Y'all's channel is so cozy and I really love it ❤
Was me and alan that left the bottle and back of pocket watch, and tiny foot, thought you would like them 😀😀
Ah thanks guys! Love the colour of that bottle ☺️

The animation of the unfortunate piano baby, gave me a good chuckle 😅

To me, the fish charm has a bit of a Native Alaskan vibe. Very cool find. I was glad to see you kept the beautiful drippy lip bottle. Lovely color.

It’s the ol’ cannon ball in the banana bag trick…classic. Loved that old bottle. Possible a Sturgeon or a Coy fish?
Haha!
I love the shot of the found fish perching on the rock!
So many innuendos. Such a laugh. And interesting. Cracked me up 😂😂😂
Is it just me or was the fishy more beautiful when he was a little dirty? You could see his exquisite detailed scales better.
agree
Maybe a bit of paint or gilding could bring out the detail.
Was thinking that exact thing, them looked at the comments. Too funny. Love you ladies!
