The cinnamon tip is interesting. I’ve been caring for lucky bamboo plants for years, and have grown them in both soil and water. Right now I have 4 in soil and 3 in water. They’re all at least several years old. As long as you take care of them, they do equally well either way, but the ones in water do require slightly more care. They’re more sensitive to running out of water, since they have nothing around their roots to protect them from direct air. And waste products have nowhere to go, so you have to pour the old water out before you add new, or else the plant will begin to suffer from growing in its own waste.
yes on top of that they need fresh water because eventually the water will lose all of its oxygen which the plant needs to stay alive so its good to change the water at least every few weeks! :)
This was very helpful!!! I was gifted w/ one in March and didn’t even realize it was growing in water & not in soil until last week. I obviously saw no soil, but for some reason thought it was under the pebbles or something. I’m aware of how stupid that may sound, but I know absolutely nothing about plants as I’ve never ever owned one before. And the only reason I decided to check was because a random video popped out on how to care for them & so I watched it & saw that there was two ways of growing them. Anyway, I do have a question though, how often do you water the plant? I cleaned it out & put fresh water, but it’s now been a week & it looked dry so I added more water to it. Am I supposed to water it every single time it looks dry or do I have to change the whole water & if so, how often? I’d appreciate it very much if you’d answer. I’ve been trying to find answers everywhere & in every video I’ve watched they don’t really talk about how it works w/ the watering procedure, they only mention about change the water every couple of weeks. I hope you read my comment. Thank youuuu 💕
I use cinnamon every time I cut a leaf off a plant to prevent mold from growing. It works great every time!!! I also sprinkle cinnamon on the top of the soil of all my plants, it helps keep the fungus gnats away. It is a preventative measure, if you already have fungus gnat issue cinnamon is not gonna work.
Hello thank you for the video lots of great information here. My problem I am having is my plant got too big for the pot that I had it in so I had to repot it into a bigger pot with more soil which requires more water. Now it's been about 3 months and my plant won't grow any bigger but I was told and I have seen bamboo plant that can be as big as 12 ft tall. Do I need to repot my plant or what can I do to get it to grow again? It's been 3 months since I last saw it grow.
Decide where you want to trim the plant. Then make sure that you make the cut just above the node (they sort of look like bulky dark green rings on the stems). Then remove the lower part of the leaves from your cuttings & submerge them in fresh filtered water (making sure that none of the lower leaves are in the water). Replace the water weekly & keep the plant away from harsh direct sunlight. The cuttings should grow new roots within a few weeks. The mother plant that you had just pruned will also develop new shoots in due time.
Doing more frequent water changes and cleaning the vase you have it in should help eliminate some of the rot cause it to flush out the dirty water it may have sucked up from sitting also try using filterd water
Nice tips. I just bought a Lucky Bamboo from Lowes on clearance that has a bunch of dead leaves. I figured I'd be able to just trim them off so I'm glad you explained that. I hope I can get it to survive as it's a really nice braided bamboo and I only paid $2. Cheers.
I can’t wait to try this. My bamboo have been in water since I got them when I was 17. I’m 21 now and I only have on shoot left because the rest died over time. Had no idea they needed dirt! Thought these were meant to only grow in water. I feel stupid but I am gonna plant mine tomorrow in dirt. 🙂
You’re not stupid! I had one since 15 and it died when I was 19, kept one and tried to save it with just water. Didn’t work out. Found this video to care for my new ones! Hopefully it works for us lol
Me too girl. My boyfriend moved away and gave me a bamboo plant. It was unhealthy and I felt so bad 😂😭😭 its doing better now in the dirt. The cinnamon tip was helpful 👌👀 the bamboo really likes it and I was hella suprised
Ive never heard the cinnamon tip before! Thank you, my bamboo plants were exposed to an already dying bamboo stalk and I don’t have any fungicide so thank you 🥺
Thanks for this video I e had mines for a out two years now and it has been sitting in the same vase since, it started with 4 stalks now it's only 3 cause the other one got rotted out. I'm gonna do exactly what you did in this video cause I love my plant
I would have just added air with an aquarium air pump and some nutrients. People say you can just change out the water but I like the continuous and permanent air supply. The vase is much nicer to look at than the pot and my lucky bamboo doesn't do as well for me in dirt anyway.
Mine too. It looks like mold on mine. I switched my bamboo back to water and clean my pot with vinegar and water and left it to dry. Then hopefully mold will be gone. My bamboo is also growing 1 tiny shoot of leafs so slowly.
I just got a lucky bamboo tree it has 3 lil sticks and it’s small I bought it off a a Nice kind Chinese lady and it came in a little glass cup with water and rocks. Can anyone tell me if rocks are good for the plant as well?
Thank you for this video . My leaves are turning yellow and withering, I’m going to try this . How much water should I use to water it ? I’m not sure how to measure
i can’t see bottom of container with rocks to see how much or when i should water. my last bamboos died, overwatering. label on this one says water every other day, but that sounds suspect. any suggestions? great video, btw. /Bklyn👑

@@JR-eo9ie yes spiral bamboo and I chance the water not so often only if is looks dirty maybe all 2 weeks. I also cut off roots after I changed the water. @@FreePalestine711 so you cut off all the roots completely when you change water? What kind of fertilizer do you add? Just mix it in water? Please clarify. I have a spiral bamboo not growing at all. Little yellowish at the bottom
@@JR-eo9ie Do not cut the roots completely just cut max. 1-2 cm. Bamboo is very easy plant they not need special. Just water and light. If there yellowish why you not change the water?
@@dominicstokes8662 I dont know if you got a answer yet as it's 3 months late but, you should water enough to cover the roots and maybe one or two fingers high. This makes it easier to change the water every other week or so. If your doing just water. I also add like a teaspoon of succulent plant food. But you could use the cinnamon method in the video too.
I grow mine in perlite in a mesh grow pot. I keep the mesh pot and plant in a decorative pot that acts like a water reservoir. Filled a fourth of the way up. The perlite soaks it up as needed. Make sure to fertilize once a month with that method, as the perlite I assume would not hold the fertilizer well. Mine is a rescue though and is heavily dehydrated. I plant to switch to rocks and bark later on. Once the stalks unwrinkle and fill out

Try adding a little bit of water soluble fertilizer (seaweed fertilizer) as per its instructions every 3 months
I got a small lucky bamboo plant from chinatown to purify the air! So excited to grow it!
How often does the plant need to be water?
This is a weird observation but I use the same kitchen scissors to trim my plants 😂
🤣
Does the pot need to have holes underneath
Yes
what if the stems are too tall and the plant starts to droop ? Can you show how to trim them ?

I got a small bamboo but it’s already growing yellow leaves?

@@SpiceKitchen29 tnx a lot
Does putting wax affects the growth of the bamboo?
Wax helps push growth to the nodes on the plant so in all helps the nodes [side growth] more then the stock

How can use cinnamon poweder for soil lucky bamboo
yea
You can lightly coat the roots with cinnamon powder before planting in soil to encourage root formation and it also acts a fungicide

I took mine out of the soil yesterday, it’s ok.
