I bought a Corvette BUTTTT...... (C5 Engine removal from the top)

Got a good deal on a clean C5 corvette but unfortunately it had engine issues. Big shout out to the previous owner for his honesty. In this video I go over in detail on how to pull a ls1 from the top of a C5 vette. Normally these are designed to remove from the bottom but we got it done!

Thanks for the vid , I supercharged my z06 2 yrs ago now she's blowing white smoke and pressure through the vented oil cap . Probably a head gasket and piston rings . Time for forged components. 😅

Just to reiterate, you didn’t move the steering rack to clear the engine getting out. Just removed the hard-lines at the front and unbolted the linkage below the alternator to allow the cradle to drop correct?

I was able to drop the cradle without unbolting the steering linkage. And yes I just removed that upper hardline so I wouldn’t damage it. The load leveler helped a ton tilting the engine to clear the rack!

Any chance the noise is a worn loose bearing in the torque tube? Those make noise before they totally come apart and eat into the torque tube housing. Doesn’t sound like rod knock to me.

You are kind of right. It was not rod knock. The rod/main bearings were completely fine. There was brass colored metal in the oil and my engine guy said he found a worn out cam bearing. Not really sure at this point. I should probably check that torque tube tube though.

If you haven't put the engine back in yet I would recommend installing an external bleeder on the clutch slave cylinder!

Its been back in for a few months. I did do an external bleeder. Best $50 ever spent haha

Ok thats loud that sounds like in top end but cant tell from a vidio metal in oil is not good..if sound goes away after warm its piston slap

How the hell did you get the damn thing off the drive shaft. I have spent 3 days trying to pull the motor off of the torque tube and no luck. Please help

Did you pull the bolts off the bell housing to engine or torque tube to bellhousing
