    1:05 5 takes is a good amount
1:30 Mic choice. Try different ones. Distance from mic at different times.
    2:10 Recording
2:42 Recorded the verses and choruses separately.
3:24 Selecting favourite phrases from the parts. Vocal comping tools. Open tracks lane. Will listen to them for nuances.
    4:51
5:25 Listen with Dim Solo selected to hear it in context. Carefully listening for the favourite. Go with gut instinct. See video about Vocal Comping in Cakewalk.
8:38 Clip gain. Look for quieter phrases and make them louder if wanted.
    9:53 Process > Apply Effect > Gain
10:56 Commit to what takes you want.
11:19, 11:50 Pitch correction with Melodyne. Select clip then Ctrl-M. Opinions on whether you should use pitch correction.
12:52 Correct Pitch Macro. Pitch Centre and Pitch Drift.
15:09 Edited the main vocals now so the harmony vocals can sing along to it better. Using unison vocals (duplications) pan them left and right to add extra oomf. Demo of the effect.
16:15 Got to get it just right. Done the same with the harmonies.
17:19 Added a few more details with percussion. And tidy up the big number of tracks.

I often record my own vocals doing the verses and the choruses separately. I typically find it comes out better that way, with my voice sounding stronger and less fatigued.

Whatever we gotta do to make it work! I think if I was singing it at a gig, maybe adrenaline plays a part. But in the studio, it's a different feel.

I record each verse and each chorus on a separate track. After comping, I move the comp clips to one track for all verses and one track for choruses

Keep in mind when correcting pitch that there is ‘just intonation’ and ‘equal tempered’ and that just intervals sound more pure but deviate from equal tempered, which is what Melodyne is correcting to. Equal tempered can be as much as 14 or more cents off from just, depending on the interval.
Singers naturally sing harmonies in just intonation because it sounds better.
To understand this better, play your guitar’s G and B strings together, a major third. Now by ear tune your B string until the interval sounds smooth and is not beating. You have just tuned to just intonation. If you check the B note on a tuner it will be 14 cents flat. Now tune it back up to pitch with the tuner and play the 2 strings again. The interval will not sound as pure.
So careful around pitch correction, what looks wrong might be right.

Pitch Correcting: you tune a guitar, you can tune a voice. It's not a magic wand. That minor correction is 95% for your (artists) nitpicking. Your fine mate! Thank you for doing these you have helped me so much!

I became aware of Melodyne a couple weeks ago (still a novice). my mission is to get my songs presentable and out there. Unfortunately I am a very poor vocalist. Melodyne is the magic sauce that gets my vocals, although not close to good, into the acceptable range for a demo song; I wouldn't be able to proceed without it. Not sure about the controversy Mike mentions, perhaps some kind of "purist" thing, but I would bet my shorts that the pros and stars use vocal correction of some kind on their recordings.

Another great tutorial Mike and you're sounding good even without the pitch correction - even Melodyne couldn't cope with my voice :-) It was really interesting to see the techniques I've previously read about put into action and explained really clearly

Another good video. I like the extra voices with the harmony. I found doctoring the harmonies with Izotope Vocalsynth added some nice variance in the background but each to his own that way. You song is coming together nicely. Tony

Well seems I was kind of right. So, I do guessing accents for fun. And yours is particularly hard to nail.
I have been listening to the entirety of this playlist and I was just: he's English, but, I hear a lot of pronunciation that's very common in Aussie accents. Then I disputed it again, because there were so many other pronunciation that was contradictory that is more in line with English accents that are absent in Aussie accents. And I was just, what is going on here?!
Then I just put two and three together and I determined there must be a reason why it sounds so mixed in together and thought: either he is raised in Australia and was born in England or the other way around. And it was the other way around!
Crazy how fun this stuff can be and how it can keep you busy and have fun recognizing accents and their mannerisms 😂

I don't know where else to go. I have recorded vocals, edited with Melodyne, then I freeze the track. After recording a few music tracks, I want to unfreeze the vocal so I can make a small change. When I unfreeze, the vocal track slides about 2-3 measures to the left. This is driving me crazy. Any thoughts? I'm using CW for BL and I'm using Melodyne 5 as a track FX. Thanks for all help.

I would use the gain effect to reduce the gain on the high spikes of the vocal which will then allow you to bring the volume up on the whole track

The issue with being a better singer is that it takes more time. Many vocal coaches will tell you that you have maybe 90 minutes of good singing voice per day, less if you don't sing properly and similar. Relatistically speaking, an average Joe with no training may have 15-30 minutes of good singing per day at most.

Hi! I'm a beginner, and I have a question that I can't find the answer to.
I have instances where a bigger chunk of the end of a verse overlaps with the beginning of the next one, but I recorded both verses onto the same track, and I can only choose one take for a particular part (so it cuts either the end or the beginnig of a verse off).
I hope I could explain my problem clearly enough.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Mike, are you able to do a Cakewalk tutorial on the following: When I record vocals for example, I want to send the instruments (or guide track) to an external little mixer (behringer in my case). This way the singer can have their own mix over the headphones. How to do that in Cakewalk. Cheers, Roy

After adding 2-3 tracks (whether it's instrument or vocal) I got intermittent, discontinuous sound like the computer or program couldn't handle it. I can only imagine what will happen with 40 tracks... Did anyone face similar issue? Mind you my computer is new, fast, lot of free memory, with a good parameters.Pls help

Just tried to go and buy Melodine for artists- more specifically SONAR artist. Was then taken to a page saying " I am saddened to announce that we ceased new product development and reduced overall operations this past Friday. ".......... Does this mean I can no longer use the software? I'm half way though tracking a song for a student- however would love some pitch correction here or there. Any workaround? Does this mean cakewalk is over and we gotta go somewhere else?

Often people are too intolerant of pitch correction. It certainly has many problems, but it also has many advantages.
Some people criticize singers, engineers, and even the song itself just for the fact that it uses melodyne. I assume this is why Mike is choosing his words so carefully.
It's like someone who only accepts 100% organic food. I respect that policy. However, that is not necessarily a valid reason to be so critical of others.
