    I performed this procedure on my 2001 4.7 it took a spell for the PCM to acertain timing and such not. The vehicle in it's entirety however as to having it's nut sack untied responded most favorably. Indeed the vehicle is 22+ years old, third engine and that #10 wire was virginal. I finally cut it. As aforementioned there was a bit of a spell of uncertainty. Once the PCM had sorted it'self it was off to the races. I got the jump on a 2005 Outback XT going up hill and it didn't catch up till I 100mph which beyond that point to me at least is academic. It's a 4wd Truck not a turbo-wagon. Still sufficinet enough change to make me question all the other "mods". Indeed give the PCM a minute to re-learn then you should begin to notice what the platinum tip plugs and overhead cam in a V8 were designed for. High revs and pull.

      I'm happy it was worth it to you. But my engine is already so much more powerful than stock I did not realy notice not even after a while. I also did a factory reset so no need for it to learn slowly. I don't lose many races I have the shift kit and manually change gears. I change from second into drive at 125kph at that stage I've already won before changing into drive. My daily driver is a HO overland which does quite well but it's no where near as powerful or fast as the red "Carabao" as my wife named it. I have many plans for it but I'm still struggling with my health. I have many performance upgrades ready to install. Sadly the reason I don't drive it is because the lumpy camshaft and performance valve springs are too much for the timing chain and it stretched a new chain and broke the chain guide. So first on the list is a custom roller chain timing chain. The stock chains are terrible. I'll machine my own sprockets and use rollerchains. Future episodes. I keep telling people the timing chains are not up to performance valve train lumpy camshafts and high performance valve springs. 0 to 100 in under 6 seconds. I miss driving it Sooooooo much but if I do and break a chain I will do a lot of damage being a interference engine. I'll have valves hitting pistons. Happy jeeping thanks for watching. Rik

    Is the i6 4.0 superior to the 4.7 HO??

    • @BuiltByRik
      @BuiltByRik  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      A short but big question my friend. But lets delete the HO from the question to start and compare the 4.0 straight inline 6 to the 4.7 V8.
      The HO is a option of more power or " High Output". I do not think either is superior over another . It depends on the consumer. Me I love the 4.7 V8 it is a great power to size ratio in fact it has more power per cubic inch than the 5.7 HEMI V8. It uses less fuel than the 4.0 straight 6 by quite a bit. Some love the 4.0 to go off road because it has torque and slowly pulls itself u and down the tracks. But me personally love the power and like to hammer my way through the tracks. Both engines have design problems but good maintenance fixes both those issues. I have a daily driver 4.7 that has only been serviced never had any engine repairs and is nearly at 250,000klm. People need a bit more skill to work on the 4.7 which can be a deciding factor depending on your mechanical skill. So in reality the choice comes down to YOU and only you on what you prefer. I am 100% the V8 man I love the power and I have a bit more mechanical skill compared to your average driver. I hope this answers your question Atom? Happy Jeeping Regards Rik

      @@atom6999 I don’t think so. I own a 2000 4.0 and a 2004 4.7. The 4.0 has given me more of a fit than the 4.7. The 4.0 has cracked 2 heads and the transmission is garbage. The 4.7 needs its lash adjusters upgraded and keep regular service intervals. The transmission behind the 4.7 is tough as iron. Same as the Hemi transmission.
      That being said I also have a 2004 LJ with the 4.0. That engine is bullet proof. I don’t understand the issue with the WJ. But they are definitely different. Supposedly the same head casting as a Wrangler on paper but you hear a lot of head casting failures in the WJ and almost zero in the wrangler.

    So this alteration is supposed to make it shift faster but you're still doing 1st to 2nd manually. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? It's impossible to shift faster than a computer.

    • @BuiltByRik
      @BuiltByRik  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is supposed to reduce the power of the shift not the speed. It is supposed to give you a more powerful shift as I understood it. If you watch carefully I do both methods auto shift and manual shift. I like to shift manualy not for speed but choice of rpm at shifting. For example the transmission in automatic mode would not allow me to do 125kph in second gear. I can take of much faster with my modified setup by changing gears at peak power. The automatic transmission will shift for comfort and smooth ride but I don't want that. Well not always lol. Because my engine and transmission are modified I could not notice a difference in either auto mode or shifting manual but you may notice a difference in a totaly stock setup. Mind you I love my Grand Cherokee but I hate automatic transmissions. So I hope to one day convert it to a manual gearbox.

      @@rodom303 Your welcome. Mind you this is my experience and a transmission specialist may tell you I am wrong. All I can tell you I shift my box manually 50% of the time and that is when I want the most power and I have never had a problem. I guess the reason I do it because in my opinion I know better than the gearbox when it's the best time to change. I highly recommend a line pressure builder. It was a standard 4.7 but build to higher specs and power than the HO engine. But the torque control system would be the same on both I would imagine.
      I did not do a power take of comparison in drive so will do that as soon as I feel well enough to do it. I have a neck injury and doing this clip caused substantial pain due to my head getting thrown back. I'm having an operation in 9 days so unsure when I can do this.
