  • In this video I explain how you can tell your flexplate is bad. For example, if the flexplate is making chattering noise, knocking sound, rumbling noise, grinding noise then the issue might be due to cracks, misalignment, worn ring gear or simply it's just broken.

Very specific and right to the point of the problem for diagnosing flex plate. Awesome illustration! Thank you for your video.

And other mechanic said engine needs to be change. But i know it has to be this. Like this comment or comment for and Update. Imma get it fix one of these days

I had a 1996 Toyota t100 & at around 280,00 miles the flex plate cracked. Then within a year it cracked again. Then the third flex plate cracked. The garage could not figure out why so I had to get rid of it. The motor was awesome & never burned a drop of oil. Very depressing.

      Probably a bad torque converter.

Mechanics kinda look straight at the issue and not around it in my experience. That's why I do work on my car myself as long as it's not taking an entire engine apart. If I were working on your car back then I would have looked at everything possible.
I haven't ever touched a transmission besides the outer filter and lines but years ago with GM 3.8L engines the bolts patterns and dowel pins were drilled improperly, causing cracked and broken flywheels left an right. And with cracked flywheels it's a hit or miss. You can go years with a cracked flywheel (not recommend if you know it's crack. If you know there's an issue with internals of engines/transmission get it fixed ASAP) but if there's an issue with alignment it'll always crack. It's inevitable.
There's also the crankshaft itself which was most likely your issue. If the crankshaft flange is worn it'll also cause this. Its a major possibility with having a worn down over 200,000 mile engine. If this was the case you got rid of a whole world of shit show that was to come.
Another issue is the engine and transmission mounts. If the engine/transmission are moving up, down and all around from worn out mount bushings that messes with the alignment which causes the inevitable demise of the flexplate unfortunately.
The rarest case I've heard of was the hardware was worn down so the mounts bolts slowly loosened and caused a crack.

Could it also make a metal card flapping sound? Like when people would put a playing card in their tires on the bicycles? Mine is more prominent in yhe front, driver's side. And we just got a rebuilt transmission for my 2001 GMC Yukon 1500.
It happens while I'm driving, regardless if I'm accelerating to go, or cruising the freeway, or uphill and downhill. The sound comes intermittently and goes away. It doesn't stay permanently. My RPM is around, 2 - 2.5 as well.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I get that clicking noise what sounds like near the flex plate area I don’t hear any noise until I am accelerating and driving
Never hear it in neutral or park only when actively moving
Could this still be a bad flex plate

U can remove flexplate by sliding transmission back 8 to 10 inches and remove the flex plate cuts the job down to 1 hr this is what shop do to screw people over and charge them 4 hr labor for a 1 hr job

Any idea about this issue on my 2004 Impreza wagon manual, 156,000 miles? Clutch replaced 20,000 miles ago. Center Differential replaced 200 miles ago. Noise started after center diff replacement, about 100 miles later. Does not make noise in turns (except when coasting).
A mild clicking/tapping noise (sounds soft like playing card in bike spoke) is present when coasting in any gear, front main transaxle area (transmission). It varies in frequency and speed, according to the output shaft RPMs, and sometimes it's quieter or not there at all. It's probably a small piece of flat wire from a piece of seal that got away during clutch or center differential replacement. Doesn't seem to affect operations though. Does it about 80% of the time, but is not noticeable 50% of that time. It's quiet enough where talking, dirt roads, road noise, or any stereo masks it. Doesn't make the noise when it's under load...as in forward or reverse gears in play, clutch released.
Any ideas, other than debris in case?
    Thanks!

Removed engine assembly due to blown head gasket, after the job done, engine sound changed and flexplate broke within days. Bought new flexplate and after a week broke again. Mechanic then noticed that one dowel pin is missing , after both dowels installed , engine sound changed and car fixed.

It's likely rubbing. Spray some WD 40 up in there while running. If it goes away it's bent from wobble. If not there may be a loose bolt to the torque converter
