If someone gets a bad tattoo today, they're stupid and cheap, and none of those are things you should be with something that's gonna stay on your body your entire life.

There are a lot of people who aren’t interested enough in art to be able to recognize good work. Clients and tattooers alike. Some tattoos obviously started from a bad drawing. There’s kind of no hope for someone if they can’t recognize major issues at that stage. I have HORRIFIC arachnophobia (I mean like legit PTSD) so if someone had a very detailed tattoo of a spider it'd be an instant deal breaker. There's also the usual stuff like people's names (unless they're of a pet or your kid or a deceased loved one or something like that) but none of them would be as instant of a deal breaker as a spider tattoo. I don't need to have a PTSD panic attack every time we hang out. I'm already going prematurely grey.

And by actual case I mean legitimately diagnosed by a doctor, seconded by another doctor, and written down in my medical file. Not some general phobia. And I think it is completely fair to not want someone in your life because a tattoo they have permanently on their skin causes actual flashbacks to a very legitimate trauma and can negatively impact your mental health. Or to not want someone with a white supremacist tattoo in your life. If you still think all of this is childish or petty then there is literally nothing anyone can say or do that would change your mind so I'm not going to argue beyond clearing up any confusion about how PTSD is not just about childish phobias and that people with it need to just "grow up".

When I was young I saw a tattoo on my uncle and realized that if I ever saw something similar on a guy then I'd nope right out of there. My uncle had a beer gut and had to lift his belly a bit to show the whole tattoo, it was a 25¢ coin slot under his belly button and above it read "painful pleasure" and under it read "ride" like 25¢ ride. Like Jesus man, talk about scarring children at the pool. But besides that, if someone has "career killer" tattoos as their only tattoos, or if someone has racist tattoos or hentai tattoos.

Everybody has different standards in what they want in a partner vs a friend, both aesthetically and as people. Tattoos are a part of what a person looks like, and they CAN in some cases say something about the person themselves. All of these artists were very kind when giving their opinion, they never said they assumed anyone was a BAD person, just not the right person for them as a romantic partner. And that's ok.
1: Hate symbols/gang symbols/racist tattoos. 2: Basic Bitch tattoos. Example: Infinity on the wrist, feather or butterflies behind the ear, wings on the back, anything that gives off Live Laugh Love energy. 3: Basic Bro tattoos. Example: Generic tribal, that god damned lion with the crown, "no regerts", anchors/nautical stars while not ever even having played with a rubber ducky let alone stepped foot on a ship in their life. Anything that gives off I Peaked In Highschool energy. 4: New but poor quality tattoos. I understand getting a crappy tattoo when you're young. It's sucks but it's a learning experience. Poor quality as an adult means you're either too cheap to pay for a good artist or you simply don't care. 5: Script/religious quotes/inspirational quotes. Extra Nope if it's spelled wrong. 6: Tramp stamps. They never look good. 7: Just plain poor taste tattoos. Like absurdly detailed Mickey getting a blow from Minnie or something. 8: Gods damned Joker tattoos. We get it, you think Joker is sooooo edgy and cool and want a piece of that to make yourself feel better about your unremarkable self. You're still not cool. 9: Brand names/Louis Vuitton pattern I.... have many problems with many people's choices of tattoos. There's just so many overused, generic, garbage tattoos out there that people literally pay money for while there's thousands of actually skilled artists out there that can help you choose a tattoo that doesn't showcase how utterly trash your sense of style is. If you are covered in poor quality, crappy tattoos, that tells me you make bad decisions. A lot. You pay large sums of money to make a lot of bad decisions. I can't trust you to be smart.

I have such mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, people should get tattoos of whatever makes them happy. I've dated a guy once, and he was so so nice, but man... it was a huge combo: he had a poorly done tiger in his forearm he did at 16, a koi fish covering the ex's name, also poorly done bc some scales were black, others were red, and I could still read "adele" underneath it. He made an enormous lion in his ribs, and it's pretty well done but still a lion, you know. Recently he has finished his leg and it contains a watch... I swear he's a sweet guy, but his tattoos did make me think his life decisions are not quite good...

Some of them have some pretty bad tattoos themselves. And for the ones who were on Ink Master, like Angel and Creepy Jason, there’s video of them giving bad tattoos.

There are a lot of people who aren’t interested enough in art to be able to recognize good work. Clients and tattooers alike. Some tattoos obviously started from a bad drawing. There’s kind of no hope for someone if they can’t recognize major issues at that stage. I don’t think it says they (clients) don’t respect tattooing, or are stupid or lazy like some of these responses implied though. That’s kind of a leap.
Yeah, I found some answers in this one really questionable! It said more about the character of some tattoo artists here than the “stupid clients”. Like chill, at the end of the day, it's just a tattoo and should make the person happy and not anyone else.
I'm curious, do people actually care what tattoos other people get? All of my heavily tattooed friends and myself joke about cliche tattoos, but we would never judge anyone for them.

I have HORRIFIC arachnophobia (I mean like legit PTSD) so if someone had a very detailed tattoo of a spider it'd be an instant deal breaker. There's also the usual stuff like people's names (unless they're of a pet or your kid or a deceased loved one or something like that) but none of them would be as instant of a deal breaker as a spider tattoo. I don't need to have a PTSD panic attack every time we hang out. I'm already going prematurely grey.

I was scrolling through the inkbox website a couple months ago and there was a whole section of super detailed spider tattoo designs and I am still a little twitchy from some of them.

@@Homie1Kenobie Ok except this isn't some childhood fear. This is a legitimate trigger caused by a spider bite that landed me in the ICU and caused an actual case of post traumatic stress disorder. And by actual case I mean legitimately diagnosed by a doctor, seconded by another doctor, and written down in my medical file. Not some general phobia. And I think it is completely fair to not want someone in your life because a tattoo they have permanently on their skin causes actual flashbacks to a very legitimate trauma and can negatively impact your mental health. Or to not want someone with a white supremacist tattoo in your life. If you still think all of this is childish or petty then there is literally nothing anyone can say or do that would change your mind so I'm not going to argue beyond clearing up any confusion about how PTSD is not just about childish phobias and that people with it need to just "grow up".

My first tattoo was on my face: a blue star on my cheek. It symbolizes my survival and healing through child abuse and other of my life's hardships. I wear it on my face so I can see it every morning, especially the days when my PTSD gets the better of me.
If these people want to judge someone else's life decisions, they have lots to learn about compassion and understanding.

When I was young I saw a tattoo on my uncle and realized that if I ever saw something similar on a guy then I'd nope right out of there. My uncle had a beer gut and had to lift his belly a bit to show the whole tattoo, it was a 25¢ coin slot under his belly button and above it read "painful pleasure" and under it read "ride" like 25¢ ride. Like Jesus man, talk about scarring children at the pool.
But besides that, if someone has "career killer" tattoos as their only tattoos, or if someone has racist tattoos or hentai tattoos.

Thank you! Nobody should be offended about their answers. They were asked for their opinions. Some I agreed with, some I didn't. Everybody has different standards in what they want in a partner vs a friend, both aesthetically and as people. Tattoos are a part of what a person looks like, and they CAN in some cases say something about the person themselves. All of these artists were very kind when giving their opinion, they never said they assumed anyone was a BAD person, just not the right person for them as a romantic partner.

1: Hate symbols/gang symbols/racist tattoos.
2: Basic Bitch tattoos. Example: Infinity on the wrist, feather or butterflies behind the ear, wings on the back, anything that gives off Live Laugh Love energy.
3: Basic Bro tattoos. Example: Generic tribal, that god damned lion with the crown, "no regerts", anchors/nautical stars while not ever even having played with a rubber ducky let alone stepped foot on a ship in their life. Anything that gives off I Peaked In Highschool energy.
4: New but poor quality tattoos. I understand getting a crappy tattoo when you're young. It's sucks but it's a learning experience. Poor quality as an adult means you're either too cheap to pay for a good artist or you simply don't care.
5: Script/religious quotes/inspirational quotes. Extra Nope if it's spelled wrong.
6: Tramp stamps. They never look good.
7: Just plain poor taste tattoos. Like absurdly detailed Mickey getting a blow from Minnie or something.
8: Gods damned Joker tattoos. We get it, you think Joker is sooooo edgy and cool and want a piece of that to make yourself feel better about your unremarkable self. You're still not cool.
9: Brand names/Louis Vuitton pattern
I.... have many problems with many people's choices of tattoos. There's just so many overused, generic, garbage tattoos out there that people literally pay money for while there's thousands of actually skilled artists out there that can help you choose a tattoo that doesn't showcase how utterly trash your sense of style is.
If you are covered in poor quality, crappy tattoos, that tells me you make bad decisions. A lot. You pay large sums of money to make a lot of bad decisions. I can't trust you to be smart.

I have such mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, people should get tattoos of whatever makes them happy. On the other hand, I would personally get turned off seeing a lion/wolf/cliche large predatory mammal tattoo, because in my own experience it seems like a lot of people who get those have the same personality trait of justifying their lack of social awareness by claiming that they’re somehow a league above, a natural loner who isn’t meant to be liked by people who don’t understand how badass they are. 🙄
