  • What better way to kick off Stephen King month than showing my collection! So, so highly requested! I wanted to wait until I had them all before doing this video (there was editing, so much editing).

    Stephen King has said that the biggest compliment he can get is when he sees one of his books with dog ears and worn. It shows that the book was read more than once. And what more could any writer ask for than to be read over and over again?

      My most worn-out book is an SK book. Okay, it's partly really worn because the family dog got hold of it while she was a pup, but still xD

    The people who say that your editions are ugly probably spend more time looking at the cover than actually reading the book.

    Don't listen to mouthy people about your books...your collection is AWESOME! I grew up watching King based movies, so now I'm reading the book's in the order I saw the movies in the 80's! Started with Salem's Lot..next is The Shining, Christine, Silver Bullet(Cycle of the Werewolf) and Pet Cemetery for starters. ;)

    Had a heck of a Stephen King phase in high school, I'd become a fan of his works and then I spent a semester as a volunteer in the school library, which meant lots of time to read, so I got to plow through a lot of his stories.

    I have those, plus more and don't have End of Watch yet. I loved... The Misery cover, it was awesome. :D I gave my daughter my duplicate paperbacks just recently. And she's supposed to be gathering the other books of mine that she has... :D I am missing a few. One or two were loaned to friends and I didn't get back--I stopped loaning them out. There are a lot of the short story collections that I don't have, but eventually I'll get them. I LOVE Stephen King. :D

    Nice trip down memory lane of all those great moments i spend reading King's work 15- 20 years ago.I wish i could read something now for the first time with the same amazment i had back when i was young,but that's the price of growing up,i guess.Anyway, the video was a cool reminder.Also,i had a good laugh reading the comment about"The girl who loved Tom Gordon",and how the baseball references went over your head.That was my reaction exactly when i read it myself,and to this day that is the only King's book which i sold to the second hand store.Not a baseball fan at all,lol.Greetings from Croatia.

    Hey Becky, hi from America, Philly specifically. I’m a lifelong SK fan. Been reading his stuff since high school. I’m 52 now to date myself lol! Anyway, it’s fascinating to me to hear a review from a person from the UK for some reason. I guess I always wonder what non Americans thought of SK or their take on the stories . Up until I read the Dark Tower series, my favorite was the Stand. After reading the gunslinger, I became a dedicated DK junkie! What amuses me is the that the newer fans didn’t have to wait for the books in real time like us older fans did lol! Your so spoiled now!

  • @gabix7488

    You basically have almost all his books. I'm working on re-building my King collection, 25 so far, also i want to re-read the books i've read 20 yrs ago and to read the ones i never did.
    I'm also a crazy collector of different editions i just love your pet sematary and it editions. Never saw them before. Mass market paperbacks are really useful to take them outdoors.
    Christine and Cujo are amazing, underrated even by King fans.
    Give them a try.
    Salute you, from New York.

    Holy smokes! Does this guy write or what? I knew he had a lot but I was surprised at how many there actually are. I'm also constantly surprised at what I knew existed but didn't know was a Stephen King creation (like Green Mile). You've put quite a dent in his work. Good luck this month!

    I hope you’ve been able to read Salem, Cujo, Christine, Needful and Pet Semetary. Fantastic books. No real animal issues in Pet Semetary, it’s more about the family. I was the most pleasantly surprised by Desperation, Needful Things and Christine, but Salem’s Lot and Pet Semetary are close to It in brilliance

    • @BeckyM
      @BeckyM  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is very similar in tone and feel to "Thinner." It is feels like an old 1950s EC comic. Also, you should know that the book is rooted in SK's early-parenting fear of child death. Much as "Cujo" is.

    Stephen King is my favorite author by far. I have a lot of his books myself, not all of them yet though. I really can't believe people have told you that your Stephen King books are ugly and you can't be a true king fan. I myself do not spend full price very often. I think all your books are amazing! My favorite King is IT and Pet Semetary is amazing! Enjoy your collection.

    Wow, great collection, i'm envious. Slightly disagreed with you about Dr Sleep - I actually thought it was a pretty good read. I liked Rose Madder as well, which seems to have got mixed reviews. Totally in agreement about the DT series. Where has it been all my life :)

    Great collection, and I do like those UK covers. For the record, Dolores Claiborne has nothing to do with the Dark Tower series, in fact it does not even have any supernatural theme, it's strictly a crime story - and an average one at that.

    • @BeckyM
      @BeckyM  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you can be a fan of an author is you've enjoyed one of their books. Plus, half of Stephen King's work is more than some authors ever put out!

    • @viktorwolfe8333
      @viktorwolfe8333 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      true enough, I suppose. I started reading Stephen King in 1992, read all 25 of his books then in 2 years, and have read every release since then. So ... I have every original hardback he put out. I guess I should do a video of my collection, eh? lol
      Also, he has inspired me to become a horror novelist in my own right. I published THE RELIGION in 2012--a 600-pager, and now I'm set to release my second novel in a couple of months, BLACK MOUNTAIN.
      Hope you add me on FB so we can maybe discuss some upcoming King books you're about to tackle.

    I see you have many Arthur C Clarke books including Rama II. I stupidly read Rama II and Rama Revealed in high school in 2002. I still absolutely despise those. I even read a transcript of an interview Clarke gave where he says all text was written by Gentry Lee. Rendezvous With Rama is one of my favorite books but those sequels are bottom of the barrel of literature.

    You may think Pet Semetary is about animals .......but it's not at all. Definitely a must read if you enjoy the horror side of his writing. "The Body" which was made into the film "Stand by me" is probably his best novella. 11/22/63 is his best book and probably going to be a staple in american literature in my opinion.
