- Before we start our chronological journey through the movies and adaptations of Stephen King's works, I thought I'd set a baseline and share my top 10, as it stands right here and now. As always with my rankings, this isn't definitive - this is my list...why not let me know yours in the comments?

Rob Reiner, Mike Flanagan, and Frank Darabont have some how all managed to make near prefect adaptations of Stephen King's work multiple times. (I also love Mick Garris' adaptions but for very different reasons lol)
Ha! I love the heart and fun of the Garris stuff…but I would be lying if I said some of his stuff doesn’t appear in the bottom ten next week 😬😬
Cracking top 10. The black and white Mist (like the black and white Logan) is a thing of beauty.

Totally agree with you about misery shouldn't be remade along with Dolores Claiborne and stand by me
Can’t remake films as brilliant as that. That’s as mad as remaking the Star Wars films. Just pointless.

1. Shawshank Redemption 2. The Deadzone 3. Pet Sematary (Original) 4. The Green Mile 5. Stand By Me 6. Misery 7. Carrie 8. Desperation 9. The Stand (Original Mini Series) 10. Salem's Lot (The Original Mini Series) But at the same time I understand your mini series! Shawshank was one of the best films I ever saw, and with The Deadzone the all star cast just made it so incredible! Part of why I loved Desperation is cuz Tom Skerrit was in it, and he did a fantastic job as John Marinville

The rumor was Flanagan wrote it as an homage after losing the bidding rights to Salems Lot...making it THE best non King King, imho.

Great ranking! I love this! Here's mine: 10 Dolores Clayborn, 9, Gerald's game,8 firestarter, 7 salem's lot, 6 Christine, 5 Storm of the century,4 It chapter 1, 3 the silver bullet, 2 The shining, and Pet semetery. This was hard to narrow this down to 10 though because I love misery, and Carry too the original. So many of his adaptations are so good and I am so happy that storm of the century was included in your ranking because I hardly see it on many lists when it comes to Stephen King and I thought when I first saw it, that it was one of the best things I've seen on tV in quite some time and if I see it anywhere even on streaming, I always watch it and I pretty much tell whoever will listen to watch it because it was so good. !I can't wait to see waht else is coming and your thoughts on all of these adaptations!
Storm of the Century is excellent and I think it’s held up really well all these years later

@@DaveReadsKing I know lol wasn't a fan of the original but it had moments which I wish were crossed over like the shining eyes of the vamps. I prefer Barlow in this version compared to the original. It's defo one I watch time and time again.
Yeah, 2004 Barlow is definitely better and more interesting a watch
@@DaveReadsKing like with the Shining I always hated Kubricks version but I do like the atmosphere and cinematography of the film, but story wise it didn't do it for me and never found it scary. So someone said watch the TV series - well cold sweat, sweaty palms, palpitations as dread swept in with the prospect of watching a longer version of The Shining - seeing I found Kubricks version boring. Well I watched it and I actually enjoyed it more than Kubricks as there is a slow gradual decent into madness which builds up and tensions become more visible. Yeah it's not perfect and there are some things I would of either shot differently or edited out. However, I've watched this version more than Kubricks .

Born in sin come on in. I would love a short story on Linoge, and another on what happens to the kid he takes, and the dad's search.
Love the original Stand miniseries, and the first IT miniseries. I am also a fan of the Dead Zone TV series.
Pluto, or Tubi had The Dead Zone TV series, and quite a few SK shows for free.
I’ve done season 1 of The Dead Zone so far - it was ok…I have the others ready to watch when I get chance

Great ranking! So happy both "Lisey's Story" and "Dolores Claiborne" are in there. Love them both (and the rest of the list, too, just that for me "The Shining" would have to be included).
Yep, that’s totally fair - I just couldn’t include it in a top 10 adaptations as, for me, it does the book a disservice. As a masterpiece of horror though? Hell yes!
@@DaveReadsKing That's surely true, I watched the film so many times, but read the book only once really long ago. Will refresh that one to catch up on the differences more.

didnt know (or maybe i forgot) that dead zone had an adaptation. prob gonna watch that at some point cus the book was fantastic
It’s so good - Cronenberg directed, Walken as the lead…heck yes! The mid 00s Tv series of The Dead Zone is not so good though!
Awesome video, list, and music! It must have been hard to not mention Graveyard Shift as a joke. I applaud your restraint 😂. Maybe we can get your 10 least favorite adaptations sometime!

Since the Boogeyman is coming soon, I hope more of his short stories will be turned into movies and after the Boogeyman comes out, I hope David Dasmalchian gets another Stephen King role. I think he’s a very talented actor and he has that creep factor to him that most of Kings stories have. I’m assuming from the cast list and the trailers that he’s playing Lester Billings.

What’s your verdict on the shining mini series from the 90s? Quite enjoyed it personally. Even though the kid who played Danny was quite annoying!

What no Under the Dome? - kidding... But to be honest, I was expecting to see 1922 there. I thought is was an excellent adaption.
It was close, but not quite top 10 for me - still a terrific adaptation though!
But what about The Shawshank Redemption? For me, that is my number 1 and number 2 is definitely Stand By Me.
Yeah I totally see that. As I said in the video, I accept that Shawshank is a wonderful film, it’s simply not in my top 10 - definitely top 20 though

I thought The Mist was really good but the ending too bleak. I would have liked them driving off into an unknown future.

Hey, that movie is absolutely and undeniably a masterpiece and a full five-star, 10/10 film. But, I had to go with my heart here, and there were at least 10 others I like more 🤷🏻♂️
Well, is it possible for you to make a list that has three entries above your favorites? Zero, zero plus one, and zero plus two? Maybe there's some principle of quantum mechanics that would allow this. If so, you could make your list perfect by including The Shining, The Green Mile, and The Shawshank Redemption. Golly, those are three awfully good movies! Who really cares, but it is true that Shawshank now has the highest IMDb rating of all movies ever made (9.3). with 2.7 million people doing the rating.
But, I acknowledge those directly in this video? This list is *my* 10 favourites, and those 3 aren’t among my 10. I wasn’t setting out to make a ‘definitive’ list - I was just sharing my favourites 🤷🏻♂️
