    I too was late to the King collection but Im glad Im at an age where I can appreciate his craft as well as his kooky characters. Still working my way through his work but Im excited to keep going.

      Yesss, I guess on the bright side we have less of a chance of running out of King work to read than someone who started reading him as a kid!

    started with the shining... now im on the last book in the dark tower series. roland and his ka-tet has become a part of me and i'm sad to see these characters come to their conclusions... but at least i have wind through the keyhole and FAIRY TALE to read.

      The Shining was my first of his, too! I would like to get to the Dark Tower series eventually. Since posting this video I have heard a lot of great things!

    I've gotten back into reading stephen king as well. I finished reading skeleton crew a while ago. Right now I dont know what to read next on my shelf delores clayborn, different seasons or the stand? Decisions decisions😊❤📚

      @courtneytownill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome back to Stephen King! That is a tough choice. I haven’t read Different Seasons but Dolores Claiborne and the Stand are two of my very favorites from him! Dolores Claiborne is at least a little shorter 😉

    Love Stephen King, think The Stand s a good book. Was just telling my husband earlier that the town we currently live in (for work) is basically Derry, Maine. As an art graduate, screw the over-reaching opinions of art professors!

    • @courtneytownill
      @courtneytownill  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Stand is a favorite! It has its faults (length lol) but overall I really enjoy it every time I read it. And agree! I have really had to unlearn a lot of stuff when I read books. I’m starting to read less from a writers lens and more from an enjoyable reader lens 😅

    I have 4 copies of IT and 5 copies of THE STAND...if I see a King book anywhere I grab it, even if I already have it...

      That’s amazing! I could definitely go for a different copy of IT and the Stand and I always have my eyes peeled, too.

      @@courtneytownill FYI - Barnes and Noble has a special edition of The Stand that is really nice. I don't love the colors they used for the cover, but overall a very nice edition. They also have a special edition that includes King's first 3 books. Now that one has an awesome looking cover. Thank you for sharing your collection. I really enjoyed your video.

    dang you had two big time booktubers comment on this video. also awesome collection. i dont think that bachman book compilation is worth much, i could be wrong, but i know rage by itself is very valuable since it's no longer in print

      Thank you so much! And I know, my kind is blown that they watched! I think you’re right. It looks like the stand-alone is most valuable, followed by the hardcover of this collection. It looks like this one is going for $50 on some sites so def not as wild as the standalone, but still a little more valuable than $4! Thank you for watching!

    I don't get why Stephen King is frown upon, or genre writing in general. Being a librarian, I think that's just unjustified snobbery.
    I haven't read all that many of his books, but I hope to get around it at some point.

    • @courtneytownill
      @courtneytownill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree! I’m sad it took me so long to see that. Even 9 years out of college I’m still trying to learn how to read a book for the story, rather than picking apart the writing or assigning a “status” to it 😅 it’s allowed me to enjoy so many other great horror writers, too!

    A professor in fiction writing speaking ill of King is like a mathematician speaking ill of Einstein or a electrical engineer speaking ill of Tesla. They are the best of their era/field. Honestly it sounds like elitism and jealously.

    • @courtneytownill
      @courtneytownill  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree! Definitely some pretentiousness there, for sure. As a whole, genre writing was frowned upon in my program. You could write horror in the horror writing specific class, but not in the general “fiction” classes without hearing negativity from the professors.
