    Like all luxury EVs the depreciation is particularly brutal. 2022 models can be found for nearly 80K…after 1 year.

    • @DominikLH
      @DominikLH ปีที่แล้ว +13

      In Germany, the depreciation is actually surprisingly low. I can get a used Taycan or EQS cheaper than a used e-tron GT. But I'm sure this will change after the 3-4 year leases end and the market gets spammed.
      And generally speaking, EV depreciation is unfortunately very low compared to ICEs. A 3 year old Tesla Model 3 (50k car) costs as much as a 3 year old E300e (80k+ car).

    As an owner of a 2019 Audi e-tron (regular), which I got 2nd hand 1 year ago, I really don’t see why it’s such a major problem to plug in often. It’s still a lot more convenient than having to go to gas stations, let alone pay a fortune for the gas (I have solar). And as you hinted at with Audi, the real world range on long drives is way better than what they advertise. I’ve now done several road trips where I have gotten 290 miles on a charge despite the car supposedly maxing out at 209m. This compared to my 2020 Model Y Long Range, which advertised 330, but rarely ever got more than 220. The fact that Audi has their suspension tuned so well, makes the regular e-tron feel very solid, exceedingly comfortable, and a great balance of ride and handling, despite its insane weight.

      Buy used, most EVs depreciate at least 50% pretty quickly.
      I picked up an ‘21 XC40 EV from a BMW dealer with 21K and 27 months of new car warranty left for $35k ( orig msrp $62k ).
      The downside is that super steep depreciation will slow but continue.
      Public EV charging is not mature, so that part of the experience is burdensome.
      If you regularly drive over 180 miles at a time, a 10%-80% high speed charge session can absorb about 35-40 min.

    We cross-shopped this against the Taycan. Our local Audi dealer was so proud of it, they wouldn't allow a test drive, so we ordered a Taycan Turbo. No regrets. I've driven 270 miles on a charge, stopping with roughly 24 miles remaining to charge for 20 minutes. The car charges so quickly, it's tough to order and eat a fast food meal, and take a quick restroom break before the car is ready to go.
    They're not the perfect vehicle for every use case, but for ours the Taycan excels...and I'm confident the e-tron GT would as well. We plug into the 50a in the garage once every five days or so, and the car is charged in the morning. We've saved a lot of time not pumping gas. The car will charge at about 24 miles/hour in the garage...at 1/3 the cost of gasoline...not that anyone spends this kind of money to save on fuel.

    Great review; as usual. I believe you are bang-on on most points. We have 3,000 miles on our 2023 e-tron GT and we LOVE the driving dynamics, styling and interior. Yes, range could be better but we are fortunate here in Quebec to have a well established fast charging infrastructure. Our Electrify Canada experience has been very good. The only downside is the car's fair share of gremlins including a TMCU which falls into 3G mode too often and a now-resolved brake booster failure. There are 2 pending safety recalls on this model presently: The heat pump (no fix announced) and possibly the shared Taycan/e-tron GT safety recall on some VIN's for the battery sealing. Once we get those two matters resolved - I'm sure we will thoroughly enjoy our ownership experience.

      @@aussie2uGAThe EPA Range is highly inaccurate. The real world range on this and the taycan is around 300 at 70mph and 250 at 80mph. Out of spec road trips the taycan a lot

    Thoughts from an RS etron GT owner…frunk holds a normal roller bag and is plenty useful. Lots of us with level 2 chargers at home charge to 80%. The Lucid - I think these are great cars but the dealer and service network is completely non existent in vast swaths of the country so the comparison is a non starter for many of us. Plus you need to step up to the 800hp Gran touring to out perform and out range the Taycan/eTron and those are unicorns. Lastly, as many others have pointed out, you get these things slightly used for a massive discount. Totally agree that the MSRP for a new one is ridiculous.

    Given the huge depreciation, used market is becoming really attractive to enjoy for a few years before switching to something updated. The inflated msrp settles down nicely on the used market.

    I remember being super hyped for this car when they started teasing it, but that was with an expectation it would start around like $70K rather than $100K+. Not that its a bad car, but its $30K more than it should be imo.
    At least theyre rapidly depreciating! I bought my current A6 for rougly 1/6th of its original MSRP after 8 years of depreciation, and I might be able to do the same with one of these in 5 years...

      @0hypnotoad0 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's only a limitation if you have a 200 mile round trip commute in the winter or something outrageous like that. Heaps of range is nice to have, but realistically is not worth paying heaps of money for it. I think most EV leasers who buy these 400+ mile range cars will probably hit a moment of realization that they've never even come close to utilizing the entire range - even on a roadtrip chances are you're going to need to stop to use a bathroom near a charger twice before you can even drive 400 miles.

    Feels like we're in the early '80s for electric cars. They're functional, but just not quite... there.
    Something about most of 'em is compromised. Range, user interface, charging infrastructure, over the air update shenanigans, etc.
    Just like buying a performance vehicle back then - they will get better, but as they are... they're a little, well, sad.
    And the ones that do seem better, they're in another ballpark financially. Rivian, Rimarc, not anything that I can afford without the aid of powerball.
    Tesla is closest, but their issues with repairability, over the air updates, stupid design choices, and fit and finish still keep me away.

    As always you bring up some fundamental questions, as a reputable OEM they can build a car but with BEVS there is a new philosophy where the integrated architecture is key. With legacy manufacturers there is an overlap and at 150k for 250 mile hops before topping up at an increasing KWH cost is IMO is just not worth it. Lose money and convenience by an order of magnitude, keep it reel mark and jack👍🏻
