    Got my Wave in 2016. It also has the locking mechanism for the inside tools. Love it and it is my go to for small jobs.

    I still have my original from 2003. It’s still a great tool.

    Thanks for the review, just to note that when I bought my original wave as well as the leather sheath it came with a smallish plastic case that contained an adaptor and five ¼" hex bits. The adaptor was designed to sit between the two sections of the pliers and it could used in three separate positions ie 180 deg, 135 deg + 90 deg. It has proved to be very useful on many occasions and allows me to use ordinary hex bits rather than Weatherman's flattened version.

      Thanks, Harry. These did also come with the adaptor as an option, which could also be purchased separately. There was even a version that had a large sheath that fit both the tool and the bit driver together. I have the Wave +, and never noticed the serration indicator. That is very cool!

    Got my old Wave I had since 2002 taken by TSA last year. I like the locking feature for the inside tools on the new one, but my newer Wave plus doesn't operate as smoothly. Thanks for the hint on locating the serrated knife, I was always flipping back and forth!

      That stings. At least you had a good run with it. Check out the video HOW TO BREAK IN A LEATHERMAN MULTITOOL on the Yonatan24 channel

    Hey, something I’m trying to work out is the difference in blade length - I have the original wave and it’s sentimental. Unfortunately the knife blade has snapped and I’m hoping I can interchange a wave plus blade into it. Are you able to measure the two blade lengths to see if there’s a chance it might fit? 🤞

      @MultitoolsandBlades  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @jaredturner1748 I can tell you from experience that the blades are not interchangeable without extensive modifications. You are better to get a new blade from an older wave and often there are parts for sale on ebay from tools with other broken parts. The original wave also had the five pointed security torx so you will need two of them to disassemble, but a special cam tool is needed for reassembly. Depending on where you are located, talk to Leatherman to ask what they can do under warranty, pointing out that it is sentimental.

    I have a 2002 one unopened in a box wondered if it's worth anything

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, definitely unopened it is worth a few hundred at least. These original Waves are collectibles but only in mint condition.

      @@MultitoolsandBlades yes it's mint the leather case is still in its plastic. I might keep it and gift it to someone in the future

    Excellent comparative review. I prefer the 1st generation model. The only negative is the absence of the ruler. Hope someone can come up with a ruler hack for the 1st gen model😊

      Thanks for watching! There is something about the 1st gen model that I prefer over the newer models - can't quite put my finger on it.

    The one thing you missed and I would like to know is the weight difference.
    Obviously the newer tool is better in many ways, but a lighter tool has advantages also.

    The Wave I have looks more like the Wave+. I purchased it years back from Costco. It would not be the first time that the Costco version of certain items is different than what is sold elsewhere.

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @felix4525 between 2004-2018 there was the new wave which was just the wave+ but without the removable wire cutters. Most popular tool ever sold by Leatherman.

      @@MultitoolsandBlades Have to agree it is pretty nice. These days I appreciate seeing ones with a spring loaded pliers.

    The weird thing is I have a Leatherman Wave not a wave plus, get it has all the features of the way plus except for the wire stripping blade insert and crimper. Do I have some weird in between version?

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Frederick. Welcome to the channel. No, yours is not weird, it's actually the most common Leatherman out there. The "new" Wave was made between 2004 and 2018 and during that time was Leatherman's best seller.
