    Had a number of multitools at one time. I'm sure this is completely unrelated to the fact I was emptying the blade dumping bins at Stansted 🙂. Hands down winner on wire cutting power was the Sog. The gears meant I could cut 3 wire coathangers at once, to the leatherman, Victorinox etc, tools; one. Yes I know Sog claim only doubling the cutting power, but thats what happened.

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shield with cross was used by Wenger from 1940 to 1964 is the earliest form. After that, there were variations. To date the tool, best to use the tang stamp variation on the blade tang. These were changed frequently as the die wore out. Just google "Wenger Tang Stamps" to get more info. Unfortunately, due to some even in Wengers's history, not much information about older models is known

      @@MultitoolsandBlades I wasn't being sarcastic. Thanks for posting the review, but the sheath is obviously tough and when the first thing you say is false (I notice you don't even argue about it), why should I watch the rest?

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nicholasjkane, I appreciate the feedback. I'll do better next time. I've never been a fan of nylon sheaths, but my critique was for the belt mount. If your intention was to store the tool in a backpack, bugout bag, or toolbox, then the nylon will hold up fine. But if you have it on a belt as a first responder or if you work on a ranch for daily use, the thin plastic clip that attaches to your belt is not going to last. They could have made the plastic a lot wider. Or better, used a closed woven nylon to thread the belt through, so it can't come off without removing the belt. I welcome you to disagree, I even implore it. But from where I'm standing, it's the same cheap chinese made sheath that comes with their budget tools.

    @MultitoolsandBlades You should have ahown the RIVOT DIFFERENCE IN THE SHEATHS. IT IS DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT IN QUALITY. THE OLD HAS INCREDIBLE BOMB PROOF RIVOTS DESIGNED TO LAST A ETERNITY VIRTUALLY. AND THE NEW HAS DISGRACEFULLY CRAP SHT QUALITY RIVOTS IN COMPARISON. I HAVE BOTH of course . Tiz a shame the quality went down with how there SHEATHS are put together. Because i quite likd the color combination of the brown. I also still to this day think it is a DISGRACEFUL MISTAKE TO WALK AWAY SPECIFICALLY FROM THIS LEEEEEEGENDARY LIGHT MULTI TOOL DESIGN. There is just SOMTHIN ABOUT IT MAN. U own them so i am sure you know EGZACTLY what im sayin. True shame. Keep them beauties overly oiled with food safe high quality mineral oil and they will stay MINTY till the end of your days!!!!!! I wanted to focus more on the tools rather than the sheaths (which can easily be replaced) in order to keep the video down to just a few minutes. My experience working in Leatherman warranty is that they were all bad quality, even the new Ainsworth "premuim" sheaths have rivet issues. Can't judge a tool by the sheath. Hard to say as they do not come up that often for sale. Last one I saw sold for $3,500 on eBay

    Definitely has good potential but Gerber never follows through with anything and always try this and try that and over all makes average products, thanks for the video

      I don't mind Gerber trying new things, but I feel they never get any one tool just right. Every tool of theirs has one or two good things and many flawed things.

      @@MultitoolsandBlades that is exactly what I mean, they don’t really give it 100% on any design.

    For the past ten years, it's been my go-to multi-tool ! Primarily because it's soooo discrete ! That tiny blade is sharpenable and the saw blade is reasonably aggressive when cutting 5mm cordage. I like it a lot even though I have to very carefully use the knife & saw edge for extra leverage when using the surprisingly good philips head screwdriver. However the one unavoidable let-down that all Utilikey users will recognise : the small & medium flathead screwdrivers close to form a sturdy aperture to link this on to a keychain. I've lost count of the number of times my keys have crashed to the ground as I remove my utilikey !!!

      I love this tool, too. I sadly misplaced it for many months, only to discover it was attached to my keys. I carry a Nite-Ize Skull key now, which has similar features but doesn't need to be removed from the keys.

    I too have one of these and the cross is a bit clearer but looks more teutonic than Maltese, but it is damaged on mine. It does not say Italy on the tang but has <CK> stainless on the main blade and the small blade has the letter R stamped in it. I would like to know more about these knives as it is a high quality fine knife and this video and one post on reddit are the only other examples I have seen. They seem rare as. Does anyone have any more info?

      @jmg-sw5xr good to know more are out there but very rare in deed. If you check out my macro photography video on this piece, you can definately see it is a maltese cross as the sides are not straight. But it doesn't really matter, it's a beautiful knife and I wish more people could enjoy them. Thanks for watching 🙂

      @jmg-sw5xr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MultitoolsandBlades I've had a closer look at mine and yes, it appears to be a maltese cross. It's a shame I can't repair this inlay or replace it as I actually use this knife and it may get even more worn. Apart from a victorinox, I've struggled to find another knife as sturdy and with this level of quality anywhere else. Maybe CK should make some more...

      @@MultitoolsandBlades No. But it's not like I used the tool for a long time. But it's not the smooth coating you see today. It feels grippy but I can imagine with long use it will leave some marks. It's more like the coating on the USN mark 2 made by Ontario and Camillus.

    Good review, as always. The plier head is actually forged. Which you won’t find on most Multitools. There were 3 versions of this tool. The AR version and the MRO version are the others

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks @dirkdiggler812 what makes you think this is forged? I couldn't find any information about that online. It doesn't look forged to me imo. The other two versions of this (AR and MRO) had plastic handles, correct?

    That's a nice find. As a South African, I have a few of the Okapi knives new in box because my father-in-law was a huge fan. It seems the SA made model range peaked in 2019/2020 and then sold the rights to another company who discontinued a few models and since then I lost interest. There are a few collectors here who have the "Made in Germany" knives then between Made in Germany and Made in South Africa that just have the Okapi name on which are fairly rare. Those are from the late 80's. Tool layout is very similar to Swiss Army Officer's Knife.

    • @MultitoolsandBlades
      @MultitoolsandBlades 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've seen better conditioned ones, but I had to rescue this from the garage sale for $5. You are correct. Manufacturing moved to SA in 1988. This has the older style okapi figure pre 1961 but they never changed much about the tool over the decades.
