I have that exact bit set in the black case you have there. I love it. I've had it for about a year and it seems to be pretty well built. I also have a vise very similat to that one. If you dip your leatherman or knife into boiling water for about 30 seconds, it'll soften the locktite and make it easier to loosen and easier on your bits so you're not stripping or shattering them.
It is good to heatgun the screws a bit before fine tuning the internal tools because it will be easier to adjust tightness and you eliminate the chance of breaking a screw. I dont know if it can happen with a Leatherman but I heard stories about screws breaking when using high force on them.
@@naturecalls3465 oh, I know what your referring too, I used one on lots of different projects. Just havnt used it on a leatherman. I think I will on a rebar though
I know this video is old. Looking for a modification for mine though. I am considering swapping the scissors and eyeglass screw driver for a standard Phillips. To achieve a rigid Phillips and flat head as well as the bit driver on the other side
Point of note, if yours is an early wave, as mine is, the screws are NOT torx (six points) they're pentalobe (five points) I had to order mine online as you're unlikely to find them in most tool outlets 👍🏻
Interesting! I lost my Wave long ago, so can’t test it, but if it’s a security pentalobe, it might actually be a security Torx Plus, which is the only Torx with five instead of six lobes. Not sure if the timing of the Wave aligns with when security Torx Plus came out, though.
@@PetesGuide You maybe correct I'm not sure about the name but it definitely was five lobes instead of six and yes they were security with a central post, I thought that I got the pentalobe reference from the website I bought them from but it was a long time ago so might be mistaken about the name 😁 but definitely not mistaken about the number of points as I still have my old wave 😁👍🏻🇬🇧

What do you do if a handle to pliers pivot is too tight, like on my surge? It's not the screws, as the outside tools open fine. I tried some 5-micron diamond paste, but it didn't help. I figure if anyone knows, it would be you. Or maybe you have shown this in a video I haven't found? Thanks!
No I meant the bigger one. However it breaks down to the same size as the small one. The smaller one is a common design that you can get at I think wera or amazon. But I'm not sure
Probably a stupid question but... I'm going to remove the plier head from an old LM Kick and replace it with a Rebar plier head. The Kick is used w/no blade and the Rebar plier head is from a stripped for parts eBay listing. Everything from my research says the parts are interchangeable (concerning the plier heads) and since the Kick is discontinued without a blade and the plier head is from a disassembled Rebar, the warranty does not matter. It's for my job and I don't require many tools and I always carry a blade. What the Kick has is pretty much all I need, I just need replaceable wire cutters, otherwise I wouldn't switch the plier head. My question is about blue Locktite. Locktite is basically Super Glue. Fast setting. I've only used regular Super Glue, so forgive my ignorance, but what is the best way to approach putting in the screws after the swap, based on the limited time frame allotted before the Locktite dries? Btw, I have a set of parse/disassembly wrenches and have watched your video on using them. I just don't want to bugger it up or have to keep unscrewing, glueing, tightening, unscrewing, glueing, tightening until it's set correctly. I can find nothing on the subject but, "Use blue Locktite". Stephen
I just received mine. Not happy. They didn't put the the bottle opener and larger bit driver in. Instead they added another set of scissors, flat head and small bit driver.

Hello - nice beginning to the series - great video! I see you decided to "gird your loins" in preparation for your modding series by shaving your beard :) good luck!
Sorry, not true...my tools on the spirit were so tight I snapped multiple nails. I Needed to take a dremel to the locking springs just to use it properly
For reference, I've never had an issue in this manner for ANY other victorinox. Nothing on a spirit can be opened one handed, and it's the worst scissors vic ever made. Quality is impeccable, but on top of this the plier has a blunt nose hybrid shape and really short wire cutters. I like the spirit..but it's NOT a clear winner overall.
All my Leatherman tools are no longer stiff/sticky in the pliers now. Thanks for the tip on torquing them to break them in.
I just sacrificed a eye glass screwdriver and popped out the pin in the security t10 and now I just have standard t10
