Regarding the heat: I use this all day every day as my soundcard for my PC. It gets hot, but never a problem. This thing is a tank, too. Dropped it on the ground once and only scuffed the frame. Great mixer. Also my dog pissed on it, but Yamaha was able to fix it. Highly recommend!

Hey Jordan, there is an attenuation function on that console that is adjusted using the FX control. Click it 5 times then set the attenuation (up to -24dB). Mine was set at -6 and turning it up to 0 gave me a bit more gain through the iPad.

    • @kettnercreative

The attenuation is for the USB input, not the USB output.

Hello Jordan, I am hooked to your YT vids, learned a lot from them. Great stuff!
I just bought the MG10XUF with faders, coming from a AG-03 for streaming and podcasts.
The AG-03 lacks mix-minus, so I got me the MG10XUF. Now I can mix phone-calls with my Teams
sessions..... ^^. I do a lot of remote Support, conferencing and training viua Teams and Zoom. Even
    got me a greenscreen....
What I am struggling with is:
I use speakers (stereo out) and headphones (phones) on and off, 50/50 percent of the time. Sometimes speakers are more convenient (it looks better on the webcam), sometimes I use headphones, mainly when not on screen.....
I seem to be unable to get my XLR mic (Rode PodMic dynamic mic on channel 1) or any other analog channel to sound (hear back) thru the phones or monitor. Only my channel 9/10 (USB) has a 'to stereo - to monitor' red switch next to the fader. That seems a lack in the design?? I am ordering now extra cables so I can use my headphones thru the 2 extra 'stereo out', there are 4, should work? On the AG-03 I could turn down my USB input and turn up my XLR mic channel so I could hear back what I am saying myself. My Audio-Technica headphones (or Sure monitor in-ears) block all outside noise, even my own voice. I would like to hear my own voice back for control..... Switching headphones parallel to speakers seem to be the only way. Which has a drawback, I need to physically switch of my speakers when I want to go 'headphones only' in my home-office.
Regards from a cold, windy and rainy Holland....
    Wannes

Another thing to add is, FX send is super hot when you have all your level close to zero. Live event can be fixed by scaling it down but if you are using pc for live stream. Its a fine line from off to blasting your monitor or your mix minus.

This is one of the best mixers within its segment, without a doubt.
Would you consider doing similar analyses for Soundcraft notepad 8fx or 12fx ? I believe they are worthy competitors ...

I had this Mixer for a couple of weeks now. Pretty good quite an upgrade tbh for my old Behringer one I must have had for nearly 20 years. One REALY irritatiing thing is it didn't come with a usb cable. The reason why I haven't bought one as yet is wheen I search all I am getting is printer cables. I do not know what I did with my instruction book either so this is not helping so, so far I haven;t heard the USB audio. But it is REALLY disappointing that they did not include this cable. What is really surpruising tbh is it looks like a REALLY old type of USB i haven't seen this kind of USB connection in at least a decade.

Thank you first of all for all your great and helpful videos!! I just wanted to ask if i can control the volume of a second pair of monitors through the Yamaha MG10 XU Mixer. The 2nd pair would go out from Monitor Out but could i control the sound in such a way that some instruments go out only from the 2nd pair of monitors and not from the 1st pair (from Master out), some instruments as normal through the 1st pair and some instruments even mixed all at the same time? For example i want to set my keyboards through a Leslie speaker and some other through my set of KRK speakers and some other even mix the Leslie Speaker and the KRK: Do you think thats possible? I am thinking of buying the MG10XU mixer through your videos. thats why i am asking.. I thank you already for your precious time!!

The usb to pc audio is too quiet due to the usb driver that yamaha uses ASIO...had to use voicemeter to use MIME to push the volume up on for audio on livestream...couldnt push the gain or volume on the mixer as live event is already loud...

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think that's true. When I set my gain to -6 on the Yamaha, I get -6 on the DAW. The driver doesn't change the level at all.
It sounds like you're running a hybrid event. I would suggest setting your gain/mix for your USB output, then using the Stereo Mix Level to set the speaker volume appropriately. This way you get the best of both.
Instead of boosting your USB output with Voicemeter/MIME, I would just reduce the stereo mix to your speakers.

    As I m a Vocalist...effects means to me alot...
    2) Yamaha Mg10xu also has usb recording quality of 192khz/24 bit...does it match the recording quality of Focusrite audio interface when used with Condenser microphone.

Hey there . . . Great video, I'm just wondering, Bout the low volume issue, when I first used this mixer as an audio interface I couldn't help but notice how low the volume was when I went back to watch / listen to the video I then recorded. . . It was pretty rough, I'm telling ya, I had to drive the gain / volume to darn well near max, and that was even with a dynamite preamp. Maybe u can help me out here, has Yamaha released a patch for this issue yet or not ??? I really wanna like this board and use it for further home music recording, but it's kinda hard too, when this unit seems to suffer from such low volume . . . A buddy of mine said that there is a somewhat fix for this by pressing one of the buttons 5 times and holding for 10 seconds , also he sent me some sort of driver update, but I forgot which one that is. In any case , I'm curious what ur recommendations are for this issue . . .I'm tempted to go w the Mackie v3, but if there is anything else that could be done to avoid having to sell this unit / spend more $$$ any other available solution would be greatly appreciated . . Much thanks and may GOD bless

When you use the MG10XU with a Mac, you don't need the Steinburg drivers. The MG10XU is "Class compliant" and simply needs to be connected to your Mac with the USB cable. You will still need to connect the power supply to an external power outlet (the USB cable won't power your mixer).
I've never installed a driver of any type for this mixer with my Mac. It really is "plug and play".

Yes, that's the point of the button. It will push the 9/10 to either be monitor/headphones or the stereo output. If you're in a home studio, you probably want the monitor setting. If you're in a live setting and playing a spotifly playlist at a wedding (for example), you would want the stereo setting.

Hey guys, really enjoy your videos. I have the Yamaha MG10XU and use it for acoustic solo (occasionally duo) gigs. Typically play an old Ovation 1861 Balladeer and use a Sennheiser e835 mic. My buddy uses the venerable Shure SM58 with a Taylor 414ce when he is able to join. I run regular speaker cables (TS) out of the 1/4" stereo outs into a Bose L1 Compact channel 2 with RCA-to-1/4" adaptors. I'll pan guitar one way, vocals the other. A couple questions:
-is there any benefit to this vs. just panning everything to one side and using a single speaker cable into the single 1/4" Bose input
-is there a benefit to using trs vs. ts cables for what I'm doing, or any reason to use the xlr outs instead
-in other words, what in the world do balanced and unbalanced signals mean practically
What I'm doing seems to work and I know nobody at the pizza place where I play cares, but these things can become obsessive. Take care...

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great questions. Honestly, I don't stress too much about panning until there are >50 guests at an event and many similar instruments. This is extremely subjective and I think almost every audio engineer will vote one way or another without a real consensus for you. If you're happy with your panning, I say rock on.
In terms of balanced vs unbalanced. I would recommend balanced cable (TRS or XLR) for any run longer than 15', certainly anything over 20'.
If you're just jumping 10' into your speaker, I wouldn't stress about it.
If you need to replace your current cable, you might as well get a balanced cable.

Does the usb b cable impact on the sound quality? i've seen some very expensive cables and some cheap ones.

    • @redchipsss
      @redchipsss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It should not since USB is a digital interface. Sound quality can be affected if you use cheap analog (mic/speaker cables, component cables, etc) cables due to low EMI protection, cheap/thin copper wiring, etc. But for digital interfaces such as USB, HDMI, DISPLAYPORT, its either you have a clean signal or you don't have any signal at all, no in betweens.

Is it possible to record drums with this . Like suppose I only use 4 mics for drums. Will it be a suitable thing to buy this and in the software do we get complete 4 channels or it's 4 channels set in to 2 .

It would mixer the 4 channels down into two.

    Hello Jordan,
I have been watching your videos, and even commented on some of them (I am Loko1956). Well, I did it, I bought the MG10XU even after your great advice not needing it with Voicemeeter. But I was getting poor audio when trying to share music or sound fx with people on discord, so decided to go with the mixer route.
So far, everything is working great. Clear audio (music, sound fx etc.) to those on discord. My one big question is, can I put the mixer through Presonus Studio One like I did the Presonus Studio 24c? I am finding that I am in serious need of a noise gate/suppressor. I have a AT2035 and it picks up everything running through the mixer without a noise gate.
My settings are set just like you advise in your videos. Mic level to the triangle and the gain to where I stay below 0 (zero) on the level meter. But I know I heard a gnat sneeze. ;)
Anyway, if you could let me know how to lose the background noise, I would be grateful.
    Thanks,
    Loko1956

You sure can. Once you own the software, you should be able to use it for any hardware device you're using.

I have this mixer and I use a yeti pro with it for streaming. My yeti picks up too much background noise, breathing and controller smashing. I have a boom arm with shock mount, cover filter excetera and the gain kn the mic is at 0. I want my voice to be louder without those hiccups. What else can I do?

I just bought one but actually had a hard time finding it. Seems like Yamaha might have discontinued The blue version but they're now manufacturing a grey/silver version. Wonder if the grey one comes with a USB?

As far as I know, it's not discontinued. It's just backordered like everything else in this category right now.

I bought a Yamaha after viewing your videos. I love this mixer, however, I have a problem that you might be able to help me with? When I try to use the USB connection, it works but around every 3 to four minutes while I'm playing music...my speaker starts squealing or maybe it sounds like high pitch Synthesized sounds. It fades in and fades out till it starts again...Please help. BTW it does not do this when I hook it up with a quarter inch and 5/8th to my laptop.

it is only a matter of drivers upgrade. I had the same issue with my Yamaha MG12XU. So you can search on google for usb drivers for your Yamaha mixer.
